Sports medicine. Help – RIA Novosti, 05/17/2010
MOSCOW, May 17 – RIA Novosti. The third international symposium on sports medicine and rehabilitation under the auspices of the Russian Football Union will be held in Moscow on May 17-18.
Sports medicine is a branch of medicine that deals with determining the state of health, physical development and functional state of the body systems of athletes and athletes, as well as the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases and injuries associated with physical education and sports. Sports medicine also studies the problems of sports rehabilitation, prepathological conditions, sports traumatology, anti-doping control, etc.
Sports medicine is a relatively young branch of medical science, it was formed at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1928, the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS; originally called an association) was founded. Since that time, the term “sports medicine” has received official recognition.
The main goal of sports medicine is the rational use of physical culture and sports to improve health and prevent diseases, increase physical performance, etc.
The main functions of sports medicine are:
– dispensary medical examination of those involved in physical culture, taking into account the specifics of the sport;
– based on the results of a medical examination, preparation of an opinion for a sports doctor and trainer, reflecting the level of functional state, state of health, containing recommendations for further therapeutic and preventive measures;
– solution of expert questions on admission to physical culture classes;
– medical support for sports competitions.
The priority for sports medicine is multidimensional integration with clinical medicine, the introduction of the latest technologies into the practice of diagnosing athletes, the constant improvement of methodological and methodological principles for assessing health status. Here, a systematic approach is extremely important, which determines the standardization of diagnostic standards for assessing the state of health from the standpoint of certain groups of risk factors.
When monitoring the health and fitness of athletes in various sports, the following factors should be taken into account:
– Athlete’s skill level. It is known that the qualification of an athlete leaves an imprint on his performance during a functional diagnostic examination. The level of physiological requirements for the organism of departure is also significant, taking into account its achievements, ambitions and factors that contribute to or hinder their implementation.
– Accounting for the specifics and type of physical activity. Depending on this factor, in Russia all sports are divided into cyclic; speed-power; gaming; martial arts; complex coordination. Based on this, the methods of examination and the requirements for the athlete differ.
Sports medicine is constantly updated with new means and methods of treatment. For example, arthroscopy, which replaced the usual joint surgery. Or shock wave therapy, when the damaged area of the body is affected by acoustic waves of a certain energy and frequency. Or endoprosthesis replacement – replacement of a worn or hopelessly damaged joint with an artificial one, which relieves constant pain, allows you to walk normally and lead a full life. And we are talking not only about the hip and knee joints, but also the shoulder, elbow and ankle. And in the surgical treatment of severe bone fractures and osteosynthesis, “spare parts” are used – modern light and durable metal structures.
The achievements of sports medicine are also used in other areas of extreme medicine: military, space, disaster medicine.
