Visit of the delegation of the Society “Misericordia.Florence “(Italy)

The educational institution “Belarusian State Medical University” has been fruitfully cooperating since 2008 with the Society “Misericordia of Florence” (Italy) and the NGO “Belarusian Charity and Health Foundation” in the framework of a charitable project aimed at the participation of BSMU students in the volunteer movement with the passage of , medical, language practice.

Annually, according to the Protocol of Intent between the Belarusian State Medical University and the Society “Misericordia g.Florence ”, students who speak Italian have the opportunity to visit Italy, take part in volunteer activities, improve their language skills with the support of the Belarusian Charity and Health Foundation and the oldest (more than 700 years old) charitable organization in Italy.

The program of cooperation with the Society “Misericordia of Florence” in the field of student mobility was launched in 2011. During the existence of the program, students who visited Italy through the Society “Misericordia g.Florence ”and the support of the NGO“ Belarusian Charity and Health Foundation ”were able not only to take part in volunteer activities, but also to get a unique experience of intercultural communication.

This year, the Misericordia of Florence Society (Italy) and the Belarusian Charity and Health Foundation celebrate the 30th anniversary of bilateral cooperation. This year is also a jubilee for the Belarusian State Medical University and the Society “Misericordia of Florence”, because 10 years of cooperation is a lot and it is possible not only to sum up the results of joint work, but also to outline new tasks for the future.

For this very purpose, on February 9, 2019, the Deputy Chairman of the Misericordia of Florence Society Giovanna Muralia, member of the Board of the Misericordia of Florence Society, Giuseppe Casale, Chairman of the Board of the Belarusian Charity and Health Foundation Valentina Kolosov and board member of the Belarusian Charity and Health Foundation Lyudmila Shirkovets. The delegation was received by the Vice-Rector for International Relations V.V. Rudenok. In a business atmosphere, the parties discussed the achieved results of cooperation in the field of student mobility and the development of the volunteer movement, and also identified new areas of cooperation.

After the end of the business conversation, a tour of the university was held for the guests from Italy.

Albert the Great College – Wikipedia

Albert Magnus College Catholic private liberal arts college in New Paradise, Connecticut, United States. Founded by the Dominican sisters of St. Mary of the Springs (now the Dominican Sisters of the World), it is located in the Prospect Hill neighborhood of New Paradise, near the border with Hamden.

History

Albert the Great College was founded in 1925 by the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs. The dedication speaker was James Rowland Angell, president of nearby Yale University. All classrooms and offices were initially housed in the Hall of the Rosary, a Palladian style mansion that has since been converted for use as the institution’s main library. The college’s first chaplain, the Reverend Arthur Chandler, stated that the original purpose of the college was to teach women “to become the thinkers, leaders and women of the future.” ^[1]

By 1940, the campus had expanded to its current 50 acres and absorbed many of the surrounding gilded-era mansions that were used as dorms and office space. The school became known for its rigorous liberal arts curriculum, which required four years of study in Latin or Greek.

Originally a women’s college, the institution became a coeducational institution in 1985 with some controversy. The 1980s also brought a number of construction projects to the campus, including new classrooms and a new sports center.The first postgraduate study, the Master of Arts degree, was offered in 1992.

Organization

The Rosary Hall, the college’s first building, currently houses the central library. Albert the Great College, viewed from the back of the Rosary Hall.

Albertus Magnus chairs the Board of Trustees. A reorganization of this leadership in 1969 opened up 80% of the seats for secular staff, while 20% remained with members of the Dominican Sisters of the World.

Academicians

In addition to undergraduate, juvenile and concentration majors, including pre-vocational training, there are graduate programs in art therapy, mental health counseling, addiction counseling, leadership, humanities, fine arts in creative writing, social services, business administration, education and management and organizational leadership.

As of 2014, the admission rate to the university is 71.1%, among students – 35% of men and 65% of women. ^[2]

The main campus is located about two miles (3 km) from Yale University’s central campus in a residential area known as Prospect Hill near the Hamden border. The area is on Prospect Street, just above Egerton Park and close to East Rock.

The college uses several historic 19th century mansions as dormitories and office buildings.Some of these contribute to the properties of the Avenue Hill Historic District.

Albert Magnus College teams participate as members of the National Student Athletic Association in Division III. The Falcons are members of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). Men’s sports include baseball, basketball, cross-country, lacrosse, football, tennis and volleyball; while women’s sports include basketball, cross-country running, lacrosse, football, softball, tennis and volleyball.
