Lessons from Meghan Chase: Themes and Morals
Beyond entertainment, the story of Meghan Chase offers valuable lessons and explores important themes. What can readers learn from Meghan’s journey?
One of the central themes in Meghan’s story is the importance of self-discovery and embracing one’s true identity. Throughout the series, Meghan grapples with her dual nature as both human and fey, ultimately learning to accept and harness both aspects of herself. This journey mirrors the adolescent experience of self-discovery and acceptance, resonating strongly with young adult readers.
Another key theme is the power of choice and free will. Despite prophecies and expectations, Meghan consistently makes her own choices, often defying the expectations of those around her. This emphasizes the message that individuals have the power to shape their own destinies, regardless of their circumstances or others’ expectations.
The series also explores the theme of balance, particularly between tradition and progress. Through the conflict with the Iron Fey, the narrative delves into questions of how societies can adapt to change without losing their essential nature. This theme encourages readers to think critically about progress, tradition, and the need for balance in their own lives and societies.
The Relevance of Meghan Chase in Today’s World
Despite being a fantasy character, Meghan Chase’s struggles and growth remain relevant to contemporary readers. How does her story connect to real-world issues and experiences?
Meghan’s journey of self-discovery and acceptance resonates with many readers, particularly those grappling with issues of identity and belonging. In a world where many young people feel pressure to conform or hide aspects of themselves, Meghan’s story encourages self-acceptance and the courage to be true to oneself.
The series’ exploration of the impact of technology on traditional ways of life mirrors ongoing debates about technological progress and its effects on culture and society. This parallel allows readers to engage with these complex issues through the lens of fantasy, potentially gaining new perspectives on real-world challenges.
Meghan’s leadership journey, from an ordinary girl to a queen responsible for an entire realm, offers insights into the challenges and responsibilities of leadership. This aspect of her story can inspire readers to consider their own potential for leadership and the importance of ethical decision-making in positions of power.
The Writing Craft Behind Meghan Chase
The creation of a character as complex and beloved as Meghan Chase is a testament to skillful writing. What techniques does author Julie Kagawa employ to bring Meghan to life?
One key aspect of Kagawa’s writing is her use of first-person narration. By allowing readers to experience the story through Meghan’s eyes, Kagawa creates an intimate connection between the character and the audience. This narrative choice allows readers to fully immerse themselves in Meghan’s thoughts, feelings, and growth throughout the series.
Kagawa also excels in character development, gradually revealing different facets of Meghan’s personality as she faces new challenges. This organic growth makes Meghan feel like a real person rather than a static character, contributing to her enduring appeal.
The author’s world-building is another crucial element in bringing Meghan’s story to life. By creating a rich, detailed fantasy world with its own rules and mythology, Kagawa provides a vivid backdrop against which Meghan’s adventures unfold. This immersive world-building helps readers suspend disbelief and fully engage with the narrative.
Balancing Romance and Personal Growth
One of the challenges in writing young adult fantasy is balancing romantic elements with the protagonist’s personal journey. How does Kagawa navigate this in Meghan’s story?
While romance plays a significant role in the Iron Fey series, particularly Meghan’s relationship with Ash, it never overshadows her personal growth and the larger narrative. Kagawa achieves this balance by ensuring that romantic developments are integrally tied to Meghan’s overall character arc and the main plot.
For example, Meghan’s relationship with Ash challenges her to confront her own prejudices and fears, contributing to her personal growth. Similarly, the obstacles in their relationship often align with the broader conflicts in the story, creating a seamless integration of romance and plot.
This balanced approach allows the series to appeal to readers who enjoy romantic elements while still providing a strong, independent female protagonist and a compelling overall narrative.

WINTER YARD
Before me stood the Iron King, majestic and beautiful. His silvery hair flew up like the jets of a stormy waterfall. The flaps of a long coat fluttered behind his back, and against its background the narrow, sharply outlined face of the sovereign seemed incredibly pale. Blue-green veins showed through the thin skin. Lightning flashed in the depths of coal-black eyes. The metal wires on the back and shoulders curved to encircle the king like glittering wings. He approached, stretching out his hand to me like an angel of retribution, and a sad and tender smile played on his lips.
I stepped forward. The car wrapped wires around me and pulled me to it.
“Megan Chase,” he said quietly, running my hair through his fingers.
From the touch of the steel ropes, goose bumps ran down my skin. I froze, arms outstretched at the seams.
– Why did you come?
I frowned. And really, why? What do I want here?
– You kidnapped my brother Ethan to lure me here. I came for him.
– No. The car leaned towards me, shaking its head. “You didn’t come for your brother, Megan Chase. And not for the Dark Prince, whom you supposedly love. Power. Here’s what you need.
Blood was pounding in my ears. I wanted to move away, but the wires wrapped tightly around me.
“No,” I whispered, breaking free from the steel bonds. – All wrong.
– How? – The machine threw up his hands. – What was your plan? What were you going to do? Show me Megan Chase!
– No!
– Show me!
Something trembled in my hand. An arrow from the heart of an oak tree! I swung and screamed into the Machine’s chest.
The king recoiled, looked at me in horror. Only it was no longer him, but a prince of fairies with hair as dark as midnight and eyes the color of silver. Slender, formidable, dressed in black from head to toe. He grabbed the sword hilt, but it was too late. The prince staggered, and a scream died in my throat.
– Megan, – Ash groaned.
A scarlet trickle slipped from the corner of his lips. He grasped the shaft of the arrow with his hand and fell to his knees, catching my gaze with dead eyes.
– For what?
I was shaking.Raising my hands, I saw that they were all covered in blood. In brilliant red streams, it ran down the elbows, dripping onto the floor. My skin began to bump, as if leeches were wriggling under it, pushing outward. I understood that I should sob with horror and disgust, but I didn’t care. I was overwhelmed with crushing power, as if electric discharges were running through my skin. Nobody could stop me.
I glanced at the pathetic figure of the Dark Prince and grinned. Did I ever love this weakling?
– Megan.
Ash was still on his knees. Life was leaving him, but he held on with his last strength. For a moment I even admired his tenacity and resilience, but everything was already decided.
– What about your brother? – he reminded. – At home, your relatives are waiting for you.
Iron lashes flew out of my back and shoulders and unfolded like glittering wings. I looked at the poor man and smiled at him like a child.
– My home is here.
The wires darted towards the prince in a silvery cloud and pierced his chest, pinning him to the floor.Ash shuddered, gasping for air, threw back his head and crumbled like a crystal vase, which was thrown with a flourish on the stone floor.
Glittering Shards are what remains of the Dark Prince. I burst out laughing, screamed and woke up.
My name is Megan Chase.
It has been many days since I became a guest in the palace of the winter faeries. How much exactly? Do not even know. Over time, something is wrong here. As long as I remain in the Magic Land, the life of the outside world – the world of mortals – goes on as usual.Perhaps, if I ever get out of here, it will turn out that hundreds of years have passed at home. Perhaps I, like Rip van Winkle, will find out that my family and friends are long gone.
I try not to think about it, but sometimes thoughts go into my head.
The room, as always, was terribly cold, and, as always, I had no teeth on my teeth. Even the blue flame in the hearth could not defeat the cold. The walls of my room were entirely of smoky ice. The chandelier sparkled with a thousand icicles. That evening I pulled on sweatpants, a thick sweater, mittens, a hat, but all to no avail.Outside the window, the city of winter fairies glittered. Shadows darted through the dark nooks, claws and teeth gleamed, wings flashed. I shivered and looked up. The vault of the huge cave was lost in the darkness, and thousands of sparks – the wandering lights or the fairies themselves – twinkled in the darkness like a scattering of stars.
There was a knock on the door.
Having learned from bitter experience, I said nothing. It is better not to invite the inhabitants of the Unseelie Court, otherwise you will not be in trouble. Of course, I could not completely discourage them. However, the faeries respect the rules, and the queen ordered not to bother me, unless I myself call. If I said “come in,” it would be considered an invitation.
Breathing in the frosty air was cloudy. I opened the door carefully.
A cat with smooth black hair was sitting on the threshold, with its tail entwined, and gawking at me with yellow eyes. Before I could even say a word, she snorted and slipped into the room in a stream.
– Hey!
I turned around, but there was no longer any cat. Fuka Taishin stood in front of me, smiling from ear to ear and flashing fangs.Well, of course. Who else could have done this? Fuki wanted to spit on the rules of good form, or rather, they love to neglect them. On Taishin’s head were braids, dreadlocks, and between them protruded sharp furry ears. From time to time she twitched them. Fuka wore ripped jeans, army boots and a completely insane jacket, sparkling with rhinestones and rivets. In contrast to the subjects of the Seelie Court, dark faeries preferred to wear mortal clothes. Either because they tried to contradict the summer fairies in everything, or because they wanted to be more like people.
– What do you want? I asked cautiously.
Since I arrived at the courtyard, Taixing has been spinning around all the time. Probably out of curiosity. We chatted several times, but I would not call her a friend. Fuki’s unblinking gaze chilled him. She always looked at me as if I was going to lunch. Taixing snorted and licked her lips.
“You’re not ready,” she hissed, and gave me a critical look. – Change your clothes faster! It is time.
I raised my eyebrows.Taixing often puzzled me. She kept jumping from one to the other, so I could hardly keep up with her train of thought.
– Where?
The Fae chuckled.
“The Queen is waiting,” she purred, twitching her ears. – She wants to see you.
Heart squeezed into a tight lump. I have been waiting with horror for this moment ever since I arrived at the court. When Ash and I arrived at the palace, the envoy said that Her Majesty wanted to talk to the prince in private, and he would invite me a little later.Of course, in the Magic Land “a little later” is a relative term, and I was on pins and needles all the time, waiting for Mab to remember me.
This was the last time we saw Ash.
As soon as I thought about him, my heart ached. How everything has changed! When I first came to the Unprecedented for my brother, Ash – the cruel son of the Winter Queen – was my enemy. Then a war could break out between the Seelie and Unseelie courts. Mab ordered Ash to capture me. She hoped that then my father, King Oberon, would make concessions. However, I really wanted to save my brother, and therefore I made a deal with the prince: if he helps rescue Ethan, I will volunteer to go to the Winter Court. I risked a lot, but for the sake of my brother I would do anything.
In the cursed wasteland, where there was nothing but iron and dust, as I watched the Winter Prince battling something that destroys his very essence, I knew that I loved him.
Ash brought me to the Iron Kingdom and almost died. King Machine was incredibly strong, almost invincible, but still I defeated him and freed my brother.
And then Ash came to take me with him. Now is the time to fulfill the oath. I left my family again and went to Tir-na-Nog, the Winter Kingdom.
Our path lay through a gloomy and inhospitable land. Its inhabitants greeted me with hostility, even though I was under the protection of the prince himself. The winter faeries hated humans. Strong and dexterous, Ash did not lose his vigilance for a moment, he took care of me. I could not even dream of a better defender, but sometimes he became thoughtful, withdrawn into himself. He was more and more distant from me and from the whole world, but what was the matter – he did not speak.
On the last night of our journey, we were attacked by a dire wolf. He was sent by Oberon to kill Ash and bring me back to Summer Country. We escaped, but the monster wounded Ash. We took refuge in an abandoned ice cave. Faeries heal very quickly, especially at home. The next day, the prince’s wounds would have healed themselves, but I decided to help anyway, sat him against the wall.
I was bandaging his arm. Ash was silent, but I felt that he was looking at me.Lifting my head, I met the gaze of his silvery eyes. The prince looked at me, puzzled.
– Why didn’t you run away? He asked quietly. – If the beast killed me, you would be free. And you wouldn’t have to go to Tir-na-Nog.
– This is our agreement.
I frowned at him and pulled the knot with a jerk, but Ash didn’t even frown. My anger was picking up.
– Do you think that if I am a person, I will immediately jump into the bushes? I understood what I was going for, and I will keep my promise, no matter what the cost. You don’t know me well if you decide that I’ll leave you in trouble, so as not to meet with Mab.
– Yes, you are human. That is why I missed the opportunity, – continued Ash still quietly, not taking his eyes off me. “Winter faeries would never return if you were. Wouldn’t give vent to feelings. And if you want to survive here, you have to play by their rules.
– What else!
I got up and walked away, trying not to pay attention to the pain and resentment. Stupid angry tears welling up in my eyes.
– I’m not like you. Yes, I am human, and my heart is human. I’m not going to apologize for this. I can’t just take and drop feelings like you.
I got angry, I wanted to leave, but Ash with lightning speed jumped up and grabbed me by the shoulders. I rested, straightened my back, but what’s the use? Even wounded, the faerie was much stronger.
“I don’t reproach you,” he whispered in my ear, and my heart sank sweetly. – Understand: for the Winter Yard, human weakness is a welcome prey.Give only freedom, dark fairies will tear your body and soul apart. What if I’m not there to protect you?
I shuddered. The anger melted away, and doubts and fear flooded in its place. Ash leaned his forehead against the back of my head and sighed. His breath tickled my neck.
“I don’t want to do that,” the prince said bitterly. “I don’t want to see how they treat you. You are a summer woman, and it will be hard for you at the Winter Yard. But I gave my word that I would bring you, and I am bound by an oath.
He squeezed my shoulders almost to the point of pain and in a firm, stern voice said:
– You must become stronger than them. Stay alert no matter what happens. They will try to deceive you with tricks, flattery. Your grief is fun for them. Keep them away from you. Do not trust anyone.
After a pause, he added even quieter:
– Even to me.
“I will always trust you,” I whispered without hesitation.
Ash jerked me towards him.
– No! He narrowed his eyes.- You can not do it this way. I’m your enemy, Megan. Remember this. If the queen orders me to kill you in front of the entire court, I will have to obey. If Yavor or Berest begin to cut a piece from you, so that you die painfully and for a long time, I will have to look at it. Understand? My feelings for you mean nothing here. Winter and Summer will always remain enemies.
I understood: I need to be afraid of him. After all, he is the prince of the dark faeries. He openly warned that he would kill me at the first word from Mab.On the other hand, Ash admitted that I was dear to him. And even though his feelings “didn’t mean anything,” I felt so good when he spoke about them. I guess I was acting like a naive fool, but I didn’t believe at all that the prince could hurt me, even in the Winter Kingdom. Otherwise, he would not have looked at me with such anxiety and anger.
Ash paused, staring at me intently, and finally sighed.
– You, of course, ignored everything, – he grunted and closed his eyes.
– I’m not afraid.
This was not true. I shivered at the thought of Mab and the Unseelie Court. Only the fact that Ash was near calmed me.
– What are you stubborn! He ran a hand through his hair and tousled it. – How can I protect you if you have no idea about being careful?
I put my hand on his chest, felt my heart beating under my shirt.
– I believe in you. Standing on tiptoe so that our faces were very close, I ran my fingers down his stomach.- You can think of something.
He held his breath, eagerly looking at me.
– You are playing with fire.
– That’s strange. You’re icy at …
He bent down and kissed me on the lips. I put my arms around his neck, the prince put his arms around my waist, and for a few seconds the cold receded.
The next morning Ash again became a stranger and distant. No matter how I tried to get him to talk, he was silent almost all the time. We reached the underground palace that night. The prince went straight to the queen.Didn’t even turn around to say goodbye. The servant took me to a cold room, and I sat down to wait for Ash to return.
He did not come. After waiting a few hours, I finally decided to go out and look for him. It was then that I met Taixing. Rather, it was she who saw me in the library, where I darted between the shelves, fleeing from the mighty giant, Jack-in-Chains. When we got rid of the giant, Fuka said that Ash was not in the palace, and no one knew when he would return.
– What do you want? It’s a prince! She sat on a bookcase and bared her teeth.- Ash does not stay at court. Today he is here, and tomorrow – fuck! – will disappear again for a month or two.
Why did he leave me like this, I thought for the hundredth time. Could at least tell where he was going and when he would return. Wouldn’t leave me completely unknown.
What if he’s avoiding me? Maybe his words and kiss, passionate look and tenderness in his voice meant nothing? What if he did it all just to lure me into the palace?
“Time is short,” Taishin purred, and I shuddered, waking up from the memories.
The eyes of the fairies shone like a cat’s.
– Mab doesn’t like to wait.
– Yeah, – I nodded absently.
The bad mood has gone somewhere. Wow! The queen of the winter faeries will welcome me!
– Now. I’ll just change.
Taixing did not even think about leaving. I looked at her sternly.
– Can you leave me alone?
Fuka giggled, shook herself, and now there was a fluffy black goat in front of me. She galloped away.I leaned against the door. My heart almost jumped out of my chest. Mab wants to see me. The Queen of the Unseelie Court has finally summoned me! I began to shiver and walked towards the dresser with a mirror on it.
I looked at my reflection, slightly distorted by cracks in the icy surface. I still sometimes did not recognize myself. Straight blonde hair was silvery in the dark. The eyes were perhaps too big. Hundreds of subtle differences suggested that I was not a human being, but a creature better to watch out for.And of course, anyone would have noticed my sharp ears – the most eloquent evidence that I am not like everyone else.
I looked at my clothes. Warm and comfy, how can you appear before the Queen of the Unseelie Court in sweatpants and a baggy sweater?
Excellent. Audience in five minutes. What should I wear?
Closing my eyes, I tried to surround myself with enchantment and create at least something. No result. The powerful stream of power that helped me in the battle with the Iron King disappeared somewhere.I could not create even the simplest illusion. And this is after so many attempts! I remembered the lessons of Grimalkin, the faerie cat I met when I first came to the Unprecedented. I tried to become invisible, take off, light a magic light. All to no avail. I even stopped feeling magic. Yes, I knew that it is everywhere, its source is in the heart, and the stronger the desire, anger and love, the easier it is to conjure. All the same, nothing worked. Looks like I became Megan Chase again, an ordinary girl. Pointed ears.
That’s strange! I have lived for so many years without suspecting that I am half faerie. It wasn’t until a few months ago, when I was sixteen, that I found out that my best friend, Robbie, is actually Dodger Robin, the same Pak from Midsummer Night’s Dream. The faeries kidnapped my little brother Ethan, and I went to rescue him. And at the same time I found out that I am a half-breed, the daughter of the Summer King Oberon. How difficult it was to get used to the fact that I am a fairy and know how to use enchantments myself! True, to the annoyance of Grimalkin, I did not succeed very well, but that is not the point. Before, I didn’t even believe in the existence of a faerie, but now, having lost my magic, I felt out of place.
With a sigh, I pulled jeans, a white T-shirt and a long black coat out of the closet and changed quickly so as not to turn into ice. Or maybe choose something prettier? Evening dress, for example. No, better not. In the Unseelie Court, pompous outfits are looked upon with contempt. Don’t show off if you want to survive here.
I got out. Taishin – in her normal form – looked at me and bared her teeth.
“This way,” she hissed, retreating into the icy corridor.
Darkness hid her, only yellow glowing eyes floated in the air.
– The Queen is waiting!
We walked through gloomy, winding tunnels. I tried not to turn my head around, but I still noticed the creepy creatures prowling through the halls of the Unseelie Court.
Behind the door, a skinny boggart, like a giant spider, was squatting. His emaciated, pale face looked at me through the crack. Then a huge black dog with glowing eyes followed us.He ran silently behind until Taixing hissed and chased him away.
In the corner, two goblins and a toothy gnome in a red cap were playing dice. As I passed by, an argument erupted between them. The goblins poked their fingers at the gnome, squealing, “Oh, you bastard! You’re cheating! ” There was a scream from behind, and then a wet crunch of bones. I shuddered. Taixing turned the corner.
The corridor ended and we entered a huge hall. Icicles sparkled like chandeliers on the ceiling. Wisps and balls of magical light floated between them, casting glare around them.Mist drifted across the icy floor. Columns of ice went up. They sparkled like crystal, contributing to the iridescent glow, from which rippled in the eyes. On a dais in the corner, the orchestra played a dark, wild song. Skinny people with frozen gazes drove bows, beat drums. The musicians’ hair was so long, as if those had not been cut for a hundred years. True, they did not look unhappy and, like possessed ones, played, not paying attention to the strange listeners.
Dark fairies were walking around the hall.A great multitude of them gathered here, and all of them seemed to have emerged from a nightmare. A sparkling radiance snatched from the half-light now a man-eater, now a Red Cap, now a goblin or a spriggan, a kobold, a fuku, a hob, or someone else whose family I did not even know.
90,000 Without me – Chapter 59
- Chase, I can't, I can't ...
- Look at me. I'm with you ... - He grabbed my hand.
- I'm so scared ..
A few hours ago
In the morning, I woke up with Chase in my arms. I got out of bed and went to the shower. Today has come the very day that I have been looking forward to the most in my life. I decided that I would go to my own wedding myself. I didn't need makeup artists and other superfluous people. In the morning I had a feeling of anxiety, but I threw it off on the most ordinary experiences. Chase woke up much later than me. It was then that I realized that it is much easier for guys to go somewhere.I've been sitting at my table for 2 hours now trying to get the best makeup I've ever done. Chase came up to me and kissed me on the cheek.
- today you will become mine forever ..
- well, rather, you will become mine. Trust me, this is much worse. I will torture you.
- let's see more.
POV Riley
I tried to accommodate all the guests who arrived earlier. Megan and Chase were supposed to arrive just in time for the ceremony. They rented a very large house with a luxurious site for the ceremony.
-girl, can you pick up those flowers already? I still have delivery to other places.
I ran to the flower delivery guy and picked up bouquets in both hands.
-Put your list here.
The bouquets were too heavy and I barely grabbed the pen to paint. On my way to the door, I met Megan's parents.
-Riley, why are you doing flowers? Where is the decorator?
- Miss Wilson, I don't know. I still have to see that the registrar arrives on time. I don't have time for anything.
Megan's dad took the flowers to me.
I'll take them, run.
- thank you ..
Grabbing the papers with the guest list, I ran into the house and marked those who had already arrived.
- Zoe Marel?
- yes, we are already here.
-key.
I checked the box and someone touched me. It was Payton.
I look at you here like a squirrel ...
I regret that I agreed to take all the work on myself.
Where are the groom and the bride?
-they will arrive in a few hours.
POV Megan
I took off my robe and went over to the dress.Unfastening the cover, I ran my hand over it. When I put it on, Chase entered the room.
- You're just in time, can you help?
He looked at me and was silent.
Chase?
, yes, of course. - Approaching me, he zipped up the back and straightened my hair. When I turned to him, he was still looking at me.
You are so beautiful.
- you even lost the gift of speech ...
- I just have no words, you ...
I laughed.
- it's time for us to go. Otherwise we'll be late and it'll be awkward.
After straightening Chase's butterfly, we held hands and left.Chase opened the car door and helped me into my seat. The house we rented was on a hill. From there, there was a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean. We listened to the music loudly and sang along. Everything was fine until a car appeared from around the corner. She was driving straight towards me.
Chase! I screamed loudly. Chase turned the steering wheel.
POV Riley
After a few hours, I finished my duties. Standing on the balcony, I held a glass of champagne and looked at the ocean.Noen left the house.
-Why are you here?
- I wanted to be alone.
- yes, with such a view .... this house is just everyone's dream.
- agree.
- By the way, how long will our young people arrive?
- must be any minute.
- By the way, I recently recalled how it all began.
I smiled and took a sip of champagne.
- It seems to me that if it weren't for Megan, then my life would not be like this.
- yes ... it had to appear in our lives and change us ..
At that moment, we heard a very loud sound of a car.As happens in accidents.
Have you heard?
- yes, like a car horn.
- do you think something could have happened to them?
- I hope not.
We went down to the others and talked to the guys. It seemed that everything was fine and we just had to wait for the guys. I saw that Noen could not calmly carry on a dialogue, as well as me. Taking his hand, I pulled him aside.
-listen, they are already half an hour late. Let's go and check it out.
-key.
We got into Noen's car and drove off.
POV Megan
When Chase tried to dodge the car, he turned towards the cliff. The fences broke down and the car flew down. I screamed loudly. There was a sharp blow. It was like we fell to the ground, but it was water.
- Chase, we have to get out.
Chase tried to open the doors, but nothing came out. I saw us sinking deeper and deeper. Water seeped into the interior of the car.
-Why can't we get out?
I don't know, but the doors are locked.
I started looking for ways to break the window.
- Megan ...
- We've got to get out.
Chase grabbed my arms.
You understand that this is impossible.
- I'm so scared ...
- everything is fine, they will find us.
I felt like my feet were already in the water. The hem of the dress was already wet. Tears appeared in my eyes.
- Chase, I can't, I can't ...
- Look at me. I'm with you ... - He grabbed my hand.
- I'm so scared ..
The water was getting inside faster and faster. I was terribly cold. Chase continued to hold my hands.
- look at me Megan.
I could not take my eyes off the water.
-Megan. Do you remember how we skated with you?
-you ..
-do you remember how we sat together on the beach?
- yes ...
- look at me.
I looked up at Chase. He himself was terribly scared, but he tried to distract me. The car was at the very bottom and we got over to the back seats.
When the water filled the cabin completely, I realized that this was the end. I was terribly cold, there was not enough oxygen. We continued to look each other in the eye.Chase hugged me tightly.
I love you Megan ...
I love you Chase ..
POV Riley
-Noen, stop here.
When Noen stopped the car, we got out. I walked to the side of the road and saw a huge gap.
-Call the rescuers.
Noen ran to the car. I stared into the water and prayed that all my guesses were false, and that Chase and Megan were just late. We sat with Noen in the car until the rescuers arrived.POV by
Chase's car was found 7 hours later at the very bottom. There were bodies inside. When the divers were able to open the door, they saw Megan and Chase hugging each other. But they were dead. When the bodies were able to be pulled ashore, they were immediately covered with a black film. Riley noticed the divers talking to the medics and ran over to them. She pushed the tape aside and saw Megan's face. She was blue with cold. She was wearing that white dress. Riley screamed loudly. Noen tried to pull her away from the bodies. Even though it was hard for him to realize that his close friends were dead.Chase did not live long after he woke up. They saw how 2 help cars were leaving the scene of the accident soon. Riley continued to cry. Noen hugged her tightly and tried to hold on himself.
-Riley, we gotta go ...
-they don't deserve to die like that!
- they can't be returned.
Noen put Riley in the car and looked into the distance with a heavy sigh. Most likely, no one could have guessed that the ending would be exactly like this, and I roughly understand your emotions at the moment.

The Iron Princess
Nick, my mastermind
However, the faeries respect the rules, and the queen ordered not to bother me, unless I myself call.If I said “come in,” it would be considered an invitation.
Tolley because they tried to contradict the summer fairies in everything, or because they wanted to be more like people.

90,000 Iron King, Julie Kagawa – “The Iron King is a young adult about fairies with a touch of steampunk. »
Hello irecommend readers! ♥ ️
Yesterday I finished reading the first book in the Iron Fairies series by Julie Kagawa – The Iron King. And I wanted to share my opinion. This is my first review of an art genre book, don’t be cruel.
) Iron Queen
– Summer’s Way (small story, as an addition)
4) Iron Knight
– Valentine’s Day (small story, as an addition)
– Iron Prophecy (small story, as an addition)
? Description of the book from the publisher:
What could be more dreary than life in a quiet small town, lost in the American province.Especially when you are a young girl, tomorrow you will turn sixteen and your heart lives with hopes for a bright, happy future. But a miracle is a miracle to break into a person’s life and change it in a matter of moments. However, it is not known what consequences a miracle can lead to. At Megan Chase, on the day of her sixteenth birthday, strange creatures kidnap her younger brother. Going in pursuit of the kidnappers, Megan ends up in a country where the fabulous reality turns into not fabulous problems.
? The plot of the book The Iron King through my eyes:
Well, the plot is for fans of young adults and fantasy. A girl lives for herself, unremarkable. Not particularly pretty, not particularly smart, not particularly sociable. Lives with mom, stepfather and younger brother.
Relationship in the family to her is so-so. More precisely, the girl does not think so, but what the author describes is not about love and respect at all. The stepfather does not notice her and constantly forgets about her, although they seem to have an equal, normal relationship – well, the stepfather still has reasons for this (I will not spoil it).Mom does not consider her at all, does not take into account her interests, forgets about her birthday every year, does not fulfill her promises. At the same time, he also punishes for trifles. Well, a strange family, in my opinion.
She has one only friend, about whom, as it turns out later, she does not know anything at all. ?♀️
And a younger brother, with whom it seems like a relationship is really normal and more or less similar to a relationship with a brother in real life.
And then one day the brother disappears. And the friend is not who he claims to be. And the girl goes with a friend to the magical world of fairies in search of her brother.
Well, there it began – and the girl turned out to be not at all easy either, but around the kings and queens of fairies, a handsome prince, a magic cat and – hello steampunk, mechanical magic creatures.
Further, in fact, which is not surprising, she is looking for her brother throughout the book.
? My opinion about the book, BEWARE there will be semantic spoilers:
The heroine in principle corresponds to a 16-year-old girl. The motto for life is stupidity and courage. Not to say that she creates problems for herself. But he thinks, of course, in a strange way. Well, okay, at 16 we were all like that. Hoooo … this moment does not fit into my perception of the world at all WARNING, SPOILER:
A crowd of “zombies” are attacking them. All are armed and very dangerous. Girl to her companion – “No! They are people! They do not know what they are doing, they have been bewitched! You cannot kill them! Come up with another way to stop them.” Zombies attack them in great numbers. And all this in the process of the chase. And there are 3 heroes + a cat. Well, such a thing, I wonder if you can stop them if you don’t fight back. Guys, they will eat you! And most importantly, if the murder does not suit the main character, why should her companion come up with another way to cope with them? ?♀️
Well, the rest of the heroes and their actions seemed to me quite logical and understandable. Except for some features in the love line, but more on that later.
The magical world itself is well written, all locations and characters are colorful and described in detail. Moreover, even the character traits of different races are spelled out. That is, the background on which all the actions of the book take place is very much even nothing.
The development of the plot is also quite good, there are a lot of actions, it is not boring to follow the movements of the heroes. But it’s all, of course, for a teenage audience. Or for those who love literature in the young adult genre. I love, that’s why I took up this book.
Love line – it never came to me at all. The character of the beloved is little spelled out. And they have love without chemistry, it is not clear where it came from. Here they go, bam, and all the love to the grave with sacrifice. Well, that’s it. There I also did not like this beloved, but this is for my taste, not the fact that other readers have the same. Here’s why, CAUTION SPOILER!
He liked the main character, because she looks like his first love, which died tragically and for which he still avenges. Well, that’s not mine – why do I need some old and not forgotten feelings in a clean and new love line.
I was more impressed with the whole book by the friend of the main character.Because his attitude towards her was just the same understandable and logical. And loyalty and sacrifice, resentment – on his part, everything is very transparent and clings to the living. But no, the author left it aside, at least in the first book of the cycle. Although, judging by the style of the book, it will most likely remain so.
? General impression of the book:
Out of 10 points I would give her 7. The plot for a young adult is normal, the world is beautiful. The idea of iron fairies is generally not beaten. But I didn’t like the heroine herself and the love line. And in general, the rhythm of the book is calm, emotions during reading are not off scale. And all night long does not make you want to read. Either I am spoiled by books about the fairies Holly Black (in my opinion, she really writes masterpieces, especially the last episode of “The Cruel Prince”), or I just disagree with the author on the types of the main characters. In general, you can read to brighten up the evening without any particular nerves from reading. But the book did not motivate me to read the entire cycle, perhaps I will return to it later.
Thank you for your attention.♥ ️

But when they go to Elysium, the collection of the Summer and Winter Courts, the oracle from the past Megan returns with a terrible prophecy: “What you wear will either unite the courtyards or destroy them.”
Now Megan is faced with a difficult choice that can determine the future of all fairies – and her and Ash’s unborn child….
CHAPTER ONE
Darkness surrounded me.
I stood in the center of a familiar room, the shelves and walls were lined with eerie and strange things. Snakes floated in the jars, teeth scattered among feathers, bones and bird legs. A skeleton in a top hat grinned at me from around the corner. Frighteningly, I was not afraid. I knew this place. I just couldn’t remember where.
An old wooden rocking chair creaked softly at the edge of the light. It was turned away from me, and I could see the body sink into the seat, wrinkled arms hanging down at the sides.I took a step closer and smelled rot, the stench of grave dust, rags and ancient newspapers crumbled in the attic. Walking around, I stood in front of the chair and gazed down at the dried corpse of the old woman. Her nails were curved into long, steel claws, her head hanging heavily on her sunken chest.
Then she looked up. Her eyes burned with black fire as she opened her mouth and breathed out words that made my heart stop in fear.
I woke up.
*
My name is Megan Chase.
And I’ve been working too hard lately.
I lifted my head off the table, blinking at the computer and the meaningless words scrolling across the screen. A quick glance at the clock showed 6:32. Have I worked all night again? I yawned, shook my head to dispel the nap, and my memory returned. No, I only came here an hour ago to check the status of the new rail system that ran through the Iron Kingdom. This was my favorite project.
… Despite the fact that the Iron Kingdom was the smallest and newest kingdom in the Unprecedented, it was still large-scale and stretched for many miles. And a way was needed so that its citizens could travel quickly and safely, especially if they came to Mag Tuired to see their new queen. The railroad was an excellent solution, although it will take some time before it is completed.
I rubbed my eyes, the remnants of sleep gradually disappeared from my memory.Something with a skeleton and a creepy old corpse … I couldn’t remember. Perhaps I need to slow down, take a break, or take a vacation, if the Iron Queen were allowed to do that. It wasn’t such an impossible idea now. The Iron Yard, for all the fear and hatred it still received from other courts, thrived. There were a few snags, especially with the Winter Yard, since the Tir-Na-Nog borders were very close to Iron, but overall, things were going smoother and more peacefully than I could have hoped.
Which reminded me. Today is the first day of winter. At noon, the Elysium of the Winter Court will be at Tir-Na-Nog. I groaned at the thought.
At my feet Pretty woman, my German shepherd, raised her head and waved her tail with hope. I smiled at her.
– Hey baby. Need to get out?
The large dog puffed and rose to its feet, wagging its tail. I ruffled her fur and stood up, then shuddered as the floor swayed and nausea surged through me. Frowning, I put my hand on the table for stability and clenched my teeth harder until the attack subsided. The beauty pushed my hand slightly and whined.
I stroked her neck. The feeling of discomfort disappeared and everything became normal again.
“I’m fine, baby,” I assured the dog, who looked at me intently with worried brown eyes. – I guess I worked too hard. Come on, I bet Razor expects his daily catch-me-if-you-can game.
We slipped into the hallway of the palace, where I was immediately followed by several gremlins, tiny iron fairies who lived for disorder and chaos…

And I have never fenced with this opponent. Once in a group five years ago. I didn’t have time to get ready to put it on the shelves.

– Enough time to recover before the team event?
– Of course that’s enough. The competition was not over. I have an absolutely fighting spirit.
– Can you feel the atmosphere of the Olympics without spectators?
– Even when the world championships were in 2018 and 2019, the crowd was full of people. There is no one now. It seems that we are fencing at the World Cup, in some incomprehensible city, where people do not know what fencing is. But I don’t know what the Olympics feel like. I’ve never been on them before. I think there is a fatal difference when there are people and when they are not.
– Do you feel the festive atmosphere in the Olympic Village?
