Magical love
Prologue
He stood at the door, shrouded in darkness. A magical shield hid Him from view. He glanced around the room.
A fire was burning in the fireplace, and the flickering tongues of flame either snatched out of the darkness the faces of those in the room, then again plunged them into shadow.
The court lady hurried out. The rustling skirt touched the edge of His long black robe. The sweet smell of burning logs mingled with the delicate scent of perfume that blew on Him from a running woman.
He closed his eyes and enjoyed this enchanting incense for a while. Then he forced himself to collect himself and fixed his eyes on the woman who was sitting in front of the mirror.
The maid combed her long copper locks. He couldn’t take his eyes off the silky shimmering locks. The air around her head crackled, creating a magical glowing halo.
Women’s laughter floated around the room. Seductive gentle sounds kindled the flame of His passion. I clenched my fists. He struggled with himself, trying to keep his composure. His forehead was covered with perspiration from long suppressed desire.
“Today, my beautiful Aislin,” He whispered hoarsely. His voice, muffled by the magic shield of illusion, was not heard by anyone. “Today I will possess you, even though you belong to someone else. You are mine. Has always been mine. The child we conceive today will seal our union, however blasphemous now.
Child.
His lips curled into a smile. Thoughts raced through the mists of time.
“Yes, he is also part of this deal. Although I will never be his father, his soul will be mine. As is his life. He will bring me complete power… total vengeance.”
“Yes, dear Aislin,” He whispered, and His eyes softened. This night will bring me a lot. And what will she give you, my love, except for endless sadness? This child, your firstborn and heir to the crown of Anacreon, will turn into an outcast. Like me.
The past flashed before His eyes, and He clenched his fists even tighter – his nails dug into his palms.
“Romantic fool,” as He spat out. “If you had chosen me instead of that smug second son of the Laena line. If only…
The voice is silent. A breeze dispelled him, the same breeze that stirred the heavy curtains at the windows. Glittering amber eyes followed the queen as the ladies attending her led her to bed. She walked, and a white thin shirt, skillfully trimmed with lace, swayed, now hiding the rounded forms of a delicate body, now outlining all its contours.
He swallowed a furious curse. To distract himself, he focused on the created illusory image.
Fur cover pulled tight. The last candle by the bed is blown out. The maids quietly slipped out of the room one by one.
Silence. He waited, enjoying the anticipation of the coming moment. Anticipation flared up, engulfing Him in the flames of passion.
Finally He took out a vial from the folds of His robe and raised it to His eyes. He swirled the dark red liquid in a circular motion. This gift of the Demon cost Him dearly. He paid for it with his soul. Betrayal. And he will pay until the end of days … in this life and after it.
He knew what he was getting into. But this was the last opportunity to possess Aislin for the first time. So appointed by fate. It will seem like a dream to her, but for Him the sweetest and just as bitter moments came.
“Yes,” He smiled, and His firm mouth was twisted into a wry smile of rising burning desire. Taking on the image of her future husband is the only way to achieve the goal. Tomorrow she will get married and it will be too late.
He uncorked the vial and raised it to his lips, then lowered it. Indecision, hesitations, doubts… Having taken the first step, you will have to go to the end. There will be no way back. It is not too late to leave, to refuse a terrible gift. He can’t… it’s too scary!
He groaned. Doubts overcame Him, choked in the abyss of His soul with the weeping of the wind among the bare branches of the winter forest.
How could this happen? He was equal to a rival in origin, upbringing, and most importantly – in his love for Aislin. And yet she chose another.
Maybe she was repelled by his madness for magic? If He had thought about it earlier, if He had understood in time…
It doesn’t matter now. She made her choice. Now all he had left was magic.
“Yes,” He reminded himself grimly. “At least I still have magic.” He lifted the vial to his lips… and drank the heart-burning liquid.
Chapter 1
Evening was falling on the earth. The sunset gilded the tops of oaks and birches. A falcon soared high in the sky, surveying its possessions. He then soared up, then rushed down into the valley, to the very smooth surface of the lazily splashing river, turned by the setting sun into a stream of molten gold, and then floated with air jets further to the dense forest.
In the purple velvet of the silence of the falling dusk, only this bird, hovering over the falling earth, could see a tall, broad-shouldered man in black on a mighty warhorse. They rode through a shady grove, the sunlight filtering through the foliage trembling on their strong, battle-hardened bodies.
The falcon descended below. His piercing scream broke the silence. With a quick, noisy wingbeat, the bird turned sharply and flew towards the distant mountains.
Hearing the cry of a bird, the warrior pulled on the reins. The horse reared up and, angry at the delay, impatiently beat with its front hooves in the air.
“Well, are we going to stop at every trifle? the horse mentally growled. – It’s high time to refresh yourself with oats. I’m dying of hunger.”
The warrior grinned.
— Soon, Lucifer, soon. I’m just as tired and hungry as you are. But it’s better to be careful.
We haven’t looked here for a long time, but these lands have always been inhospitable to us.
His muscular thighs gripped the horse’s flanks tighter. Hands in black gloves sent a sensitive horse forward.
One of the traveler’s eyes was covered with a black leather patch. Secondly, he carefully looked around the surroundings. When the man drove out to the edge of the forest, he no longer smiled, and his strained, haggard face was distorted by a bitter grimace. Ahead, on the rocky slope of the mountain? the fortress was visible.
“Anacreon… My home…” he thought, but;
his heart remained as stern and cold as the expression on his face. For a long time he looked at places familiar from childhood. A torrent of disturbing memories picked him up and carried him into the past.
Yes, it happened not far from here. in the neighboring valley. There, as a green youth of fifteen, he fought with Rangor … and killed him.
Even now, years later, he was haunted by the question: why did the fight end tragically? Because two hot-tempered teenagers lost control of themselves? Or, save the Holy Mother, was this malicious intent? Whatever it was, whatever caused it, he thought grimly, even after fifteen years my heart aches when I think of Rangora.
