How did lacrosse gain popularity in Belgium. What is the history of the Belgian national lacrosse team. How has Belgian lacrosse developed since its inception. What challenges and opportunities face the Belgian team at the World Championships.
The Rise of Lacrosse in Belgium: From ISB to National Sport
Lacrosse in Belgium has experienced a remarkable journey from a niche sport played at the International School of Brussels (ISB) to a growing national phenomenon. This transformation began in 2009 when a group of ambitious Belgian university students approached ISB coaches to organize lacrosse clinics. Their initiative sparked a chain reaction that would change the landscape of Belgian sports.
Within months of these initial clinics, the pioneering players had established a club team, setting the stage for rapid expansion. By 2011, their efforts had culminated in the formation of a six-team league, complete with a governing board to oversee the sport’s growth in the country. This rapid development was supported by key organizations such as the International Lacrosse Federation (ILF), the Brussels Sports Association, and the International School of Brussels.
From School Sport to National Passion
Prior to 2009, lacrosse in Belgium was confined to the International School of Brussels. Canadian and American coaches at ISB had cultivated a strong interest in the sport among students, making it one of the most popular athletic activities at the school. However, the lack of local competition meant that the ISB team had to travel to England and Germany for matches.
The transition from a school-based activity to a national sport was swift and organic. The enthusiasm of the university students who sought to bring lacrosse beyond the confines of ISB was met with equal passion from others across the country. This grassroots movement laid the foundation for what would become a thriving lacrosse community in Belgium.
Belgium’s First Steps into International Lacrosse
Belgium’s entry into the international lacrosse scene came in 2012 at the European Championships in Amsterdam. This debut marked a significant milestone for Belgian lacrosse, as it represented the country’s first foray into high-level international competition.
The national team, comprised of the best players from the newly formed domestic league and a few North Americans with Belgian heritage, finished 15th out of 17 teams. While the result may seem modest, it was a crucial learning experience for the fledgling program. The tournament provided invaluable insights into the level of play required on the international stage and helped identify areas for improvement.
Lessons Learned and Progress Made
The European Championships served as a catalyst for further development of lacrosse in Belgium. The exposure to top-tier competition highlighted the need for more structured training programs and increased focus on skill development. In response, the Belgian Lacrosse Federation intensified its efforts to improve coaching, refereeing, and player development initiatives.
Since 2012, Belgian lacrosse has seen steady growth in both participation and skill level. The quality of play in the domestic league has improved markedly, providing a stronger foundation for the national team program. This progress has fueled the ambition of Belgian players and coaches to compete at even higher levels of international competition.
The Road to the World Lacrosse Championships
The 2024 World Lacrosse Championships in Denver, Colorado, represent a new frontier for Belgian lacrosse. With 38 nations registered to compete, the tournament showcases the sport’s exponential global growth. Belgium’s participation in this prestigious event is a testament to the rapid development of lacrosse in the country over the past decade.
Preparation and Expectations
Preparation for the World Championships began months in advance, with national team tryouts starting in September of the previous year. The selection process was rigorous, reflecting the increased depth of talent in Belgian lacrosse. Coaches faced tough decisions in making final cuts, a positive sign of the sport’s growth in the country.
While Belgium enters the tournament as an underdog, the team’s goals extend beyond mere participation. The experience gained from the 2012 European Championships has instilled a sense of determination and purpose. The Belgian squad aims to showcase their improved skills and compete fiercely against more established lacrosse nations.
Challenges and Opportunities for Team Belgium
Competing in the World Lacrosse Championships presents both challenges and opportunities for the Belgian national team. As a relatively new entrant to international lacrosse, Belgium faces an uphill battle against nations with longer lacrosse traditions and more extensive resources.
Facing Established Lacrosse Powers
One of the primary challenges for Team Belgium will be competing against countries where lacrosse has been played for generations. Nations like the United States, Canada, and England have deep talent pools and well-established development systems. Belgium’s players and coaches will need to bridge this experience gap through intensive preparation and strategic gameplay.
Leveraging Underdog Status
However, Belgium’s underdog status also presents opportunities. With less pressure and expectations, the Belgian team can play with freedom and potentially surprise more favored opponents. This tournament provides a platform for Belgian players to showcase their skills on a global stage and gain valuable experience against top-tier competition.
The Impact of International Competition on Domestic Lacrosse
Participation in the World Lacrosse Championships is expected to have a significant impact on the growth and development of lacrosse within Belgium. The exposure to high-level international play can serve as a catalyst for further improvement and increased interest in the sport domestically.
Inspiring the Next Generation
The national team’s participation in the World Championships has the potential to inspire a new generation of Belgian lacrosse players. Young athletes watching their countrymen compete on the world stage may be motivated to take up the sport, further expanding the player base and talent pool for future national teams.
Improving Coaching and Player Development
The experience gained from competing against the world’s best lacrosse nations can inform and enhance coaching and player development programs in Belgium. Coaches and players alike will return from the tournament with new tactics, training methods, and a deeper understanding of the game at its highest level.
Belgian Lacrosse’s Unique Cultural Position
The growth of lacrosse in Belgium adds an intriguing dimension to the country’s sporting culture. Known internationally for its Trappist beers and rich chocolate, Belgium has now embraced this ancient Native American game with unexpected enthusiasm.
Blending Tradition and Innovation
The adoption of lacrosse in Belgium represents a unique blend of cultural openness and sporting innovation. It demonstrates the country’s willingness to embrace new athletic pursuits while maintaining its rich traditional sports heritage. This cultural flexibility may prove advantageous as Belgian lacrosse continues to develop its own unique style and approach to the game.
Lacrosse as a Bridge Between Cultures
As a sport with Native American origins that gained popularity in North America before spreading globally, lacrosse serves as a cultural bridge for Belgium. It connects Belgian athletes with a diverse international community, fostering cross-cultural understanding and exchanges. This aspect of the sport aligns well with Belgium’s position as a hub of international diplomacy and cooperation.
The Future of Lacrosse in Belgium
As Team Belgium prepares for its debut at the World Lacrosse Championships, the future of the sport in the country looks promising. The rapid growth and development of lacrosse over the past decade suggest that this is just the beginning of Belgium’s lacrosse journey.
Expanding the Domestic League
One key area for future growth is the expansion of the domestic league. With increased interest sparked by international participation, there is potential for new teams to form and existing clubs to grow. A larger, more competitive domestic league will provide a stronger foundation for developing players and improving the overall quality of Belgian lacrosse.
Youth Development Programs
Investing in youth development programs will be crucial for the long-term success of Belgian lacrosse. By introducing the sport to younger players and providing structured pathways for skill development, Belgium can nurture homegrown talent and build a sustainable pipeline for future national teams.
International Collaborations
Belgium’s participation in the World Championships opens doors for increased international collaboration. Friendly matches, training camps, and knowledge exchanges with more established lacrosse nations can accelerate the development of Belgian players and coaches.
The story of lacrosse in Belgium is one of rapid growth, passionate dedication, and ambitious goals. From its humble beginnings at the International School of Brussels to its debut on the world stage in Denver, Belgian lacrosse has come a long way in a short time. As the national team prepares to face the world’s best, they carry with them the hopes and aspirations of a growing lacrosse community back home.
The World Lacrosse Championships represent not just a competitive challenge, but an opportunity for growth, learning, and cultural exchange. Regardless of the tournament’s outcome, Belgium’s participation marks a significant milestone in the country’s sporting history. It showcases the power of grassroots initiatives to transform a niche activity into a nationally recognized sport.
As Belgium takes its place among the global lacrosse community, it brings a unique perspective shaped by its culture of innovation, diplomacy, and international cooperation. The future of Belgian lacrosse looks bright, with the potential for continued growth both domestically and on the international stage. The journey from ISB to the World Championships is just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting new chapter in Belgian sports history.

Belgium National Lacrosse Team Debuts in World Championships in Denver
(from press release) With only four months to go until the World Lacrosse Championships, Team Belgium is preparing its debut on the world stage. A record 38 nations have registered to compete in that tournament, which will be held July 10-19 in Denver, Colorado. That number alone is indicative of the sport’s exponential global growth.
A small trading country like Belgium cannot shy away from compelling international trends, and that is certainly the case for lacrosse. Until 2009, only a select group of youngsters attending the International School of Brussels (ISB) enjoyed the privilege of playing lacrosse in Belgium. Canadian and American coaches at the school and burgeoning student interest had made lacrosse one of the most popular sports at ISB, even though the school team had to travel to England and Germany for games. But that is only the beginning of the story. Five years ago, a small but intrepid group of university aged Belgians, who had seen this ancient sport played on television, approached those coaches and asked if they would organize a series of clinics at the school for aspiring Belgian players.
The rest is history.
Within months these pioneer players had organized a club team and others rapidly followed suit. By 2011, these founding players had formed a highly organized six team league, established a board to oversee the sport’s growth in country and initiated youth and referee training programs with the support of the ILF, the Brussels Sports Association and the International School of Brussels.
Belgium first tested the waters of international lacrosse at the 2012 European Championships in nearby Amsterdam. That first inexperienced but determined national team, consisting of the best players in the country and a few North Americans with Belgian roots, finished 15th out of the 17 European national teams competing. It nonetheless acquired invaluable experience preparing for and performing in that headline event.
Belgian lacrosse has grown steadily since then, and the quality of play has improved markedly. A country known for its Trappist beers and rich chocolate has added an unanticipated passion for this ancient Native American game to its international profile. The players are now eager to test their improving skills against the world’s best.
Tryouts for the national team began last September with the coaches only making final cuts this past December. The International School of Brussels has generously made its turf fields available to the “Belgium Beasts” and the team will be practicing with mounting frequency as the kick off in Denver approaches.
Greg Murawsky, a Canadian box lacrosse player with a wealth of coaching experience, serves as Belgium’s head coach. He is also the head coach for the ISB Raiders team. Assisting him is Paul Cook, a Johns Hopkins graduate, who played four years for the JHU Junior Varsity team as an attackman and captained that team in 1982. Cook also coaches the ISB Raiders. He and Murawsky also founded the first youth clinics in Belgium, which are now held in the fall and the spring at ISB and which are playing a key role in growing the sport in the lowlands region of Europe.
Defensive coach is Vincent Vanschoenbeek, player/coach for the Braine Lions lacrosse team and former student/player at Upper Moreland Highschool, Pennsylvania. General manager for the team is David Pucul, a Boulder, Colorado resident with a Belgian history, as he coached the Ghent Goblins team in 2012.
On May 10, Belgium will play a warm up match against France in Machelen, Belgium. In the opening stage of the World Championships, Belgium will participate in the Red group along with European powerhouse Germany, Austria and Hong Kong. The “Beasts” open against Germany on Friday 11 July.

In a final push before end-of-season tournaments, Warrior athletes fanned out across Europe to compete on the court and the field.
For a complete recap of weekend games, read the Warrior Wrap Up below.
BASKETBALL
Varsity Girls – Playing in their last weekend of games before ISST’s, the girls varsity had three tough games in London. They were very happy to finally have an almost complete team as some girls returned from injuries. On Friday evening, the team came out pretty flat in their first game in three weeks due to ski break. They missed some easy shots and made some bad passes. ASL had more energy and out-rebounded the Warriors by a large margin leading to their easy win. The Warriors were led in scoring by Lena with 9 points. Sarah added 8 points and Sophie and Brooke each scored 4 points.
On Saturday morning, the Warriors came out ready to avenge their Friday night loss and played one of their best and most complete games of the season. The defense was intense and they improved their rebounding quite a bit from the night before. Maike led the Warriors in scoring with 20 points and 10 steals. Lena and Brooke had 7 points each in the strong team effort. In their second match on Saturday, the Warriors played a tough game against a much taller TASIS team. FIS started out strong, but then lost steam and ended up once again getting out-rebounded by a large margin. Maike led the Warriors in scoring with 11 points. Brooke added 8 and Lena had 4 points in the losing effort.
The Warriors will head off to ISST’s in The Hague where they will have a full team of 10 players. They are very excited to do their best and to have a great tournament. Go Warriors!

JV Boys – The JV Boy’s basketball team traveled to Paris over the weekend and came home with a 5-0 record. The excitement was intense from the first game against St Johns. Trailing in the 4th quarter, Joey scored an astonishing 12 points as he led his team to their first victory, beating St. John’s by one point.
The second game against ISL was a test of the wills. ISL played a fast physical game, but the Warriors showed character and strength, and each player in the game had rebounds, assists and steals. FIS team captains contributed to the scoring – Joey had 14 points and Patrick had 8. Karl-Emil showed strong defensive skills with his quickness, adding to his stats 2 assists and 2 rebounds to accompany his 2 points.
Saturday morning’s game was close through the third quarter when the Warriors took the lead and never gave it up. Mark had 18 points, 3 rebounds and 1 block; Omar played his best in the tournament with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 1 steal; Alex was strong under the basket with 4 rebounds in the first half; and after resting in the 1st quarter, John ran the point and led the team to victory with 12 points and 7 assists.
In the final match against ASP, the Warriors did a superb job of controlling the pace of the game and passing the ball. Teamwork, determination and the belief they could win the game produced an epic victory against this extremely athletic opponent. FIS fans were cheering the Warriors on with “Defense, Defense!” Scoring was distributed throughout the team – John had three 3’s and 13 points; Rick had his highest scoring for the weekend with 7 points; and Joey shot 75% from the line, had 3 assists and 2 boards.
The Warriors won the tournament as a team and everyone who is part of the squad should feel proud. Coach Fitzpatrick told the boys at half-time during the final game, “You guys can win this game!” and that they did

MS Girls A Team – The Lady Warrior’s A Team pulled off double victories against the American School of Paris over the weekend with a score of 29-16 on Friday and 33-29 on Saturday. The games were a great confidence booster as the team gears up for their tournament in Vienna on 8-9 March. Squaring up to the basket, boxing out, meeting the passes, and remaining calm under pressure are all aspects the girls need to achieve to be successful in the tournament. Congrats to the A team for all of their hard work this season, and SCIS here we come!
FIS 29 ASP 16; FIS 33 ASP 29
MS Boys A Team – The Middle School Boys A Team played two games against American School of Paris. On Friday night the boys showed great improvement both in individual efforts and playing as a team. Ultimately, however, FIS turned the ball over too many times and lost the game 46-50. Noah led the Warriors’ scoring with 18 points and 9 rebounds.
During Saturday’s game, FIS showed improvement in key areas. They played fast, had great passes and protected the ball. Two late baskets by Paris defeated the warriors 40-44, but the boys look ready to play at the top of their game during the upcoming tournament.
FIS 46 ASP 50; FIS 40 ASP 44
MS Girls B – The Middle School Girls B team had a terrific weekend at home and their final games of the season could not have been better. The girls played well together, showing how much they improved during the season in their ability to pass the ball, look down court to find open players, shoot, play defense, communicate and generally understand the game of basketball. The Warriors won both games by a large margin, which meant the games were not very competitive, but the girls played hard, worked together and had fun.
Coach Wedin said, “The girls really have had a great season and as their coach I could not be more proud of them. The girls on the bench were watching the game closely and were being “mini referees”, which makes me think they have learned so much about the game. During play, some of the girls were aware that they had traveled or double-dribbled even though the referee did not call it. When I think back to the start of the season, some of these girls had never played basketball before, but each and every one has helped our team be successful this season.”
Toward the end of their game on Saturday, the team knew they had one player who hadn’t yet scored. Each of the girls looked to pass her the ball even when they had a wide open shot. It was a testament to the close bond the team developed over the season. As coach Wedin reiterated, “I am so proud of them and their successful season!”

RUGBY
Varsity – The Frankfurt Warriors Rugby team traveled to Brussels, Belgium over the weekend to face the ISB Raiders in their last game before the ISST tournament. During the first game ISB opened up the first half strongly, but was met by the Warriors in the second half, leaving the score at 3 – 2 tries for ISB. On the second day both teams came back to the field injured and sore. Regrettably, ISB was able to take a strong lead against FIS and the Warriors could not recover. FIS ended the weekend with two defeats. In the second half of the first game, Frankfurt’s Bradley had to be taken out for the weekend due to an injured leg. Another FIS player, James, also was able to make a name for himself by scoring his first and second try of the season during this weekend. Overall, FIS players played well against a much more physical team on their home grounds. The weekend’s matches will serve as motivation for the Warriors to show their colors and excel in the coming ISST tournament in England.
JV – This last weekend, the JV Rugby Team participated in the LSSA tournament, which included four other international schools from the London area.
Competition was tough and the London-based schools play a different age level, so FIS was on average a year younger. Despite the age gap, it didn’t dissuade the Warriors.
FIS arrived on Friday and had their first game at 15:00 against the American School of London (ASL). Despite a loss and some dehydration from the trip, the Warriors bounced back on Saturday with three other games against Cobham, TASIS and Hill Academy. The competition was fierce and at a level not previously seen by the young Warriors. But even in their losses, their fighting spirit remained.
FIS will play one last match together as the season comes to a close, against the U16 team at Sport Club Frankfurt 1880 on Sunday 17 March at 14:30.

Ashkelon, Sha’ar HaNegev compete at ISB Brussels Youth Tournament
BRUSSELS, BELGIUM — The Israel Lacrosse Association sent two youth lacrosse teams abroad last weekend, as Ashkelon LC and Sha’ar HaNegev LC represented the Jewish State at the 15th annual ISB Youth Lacrosse Tournament at the International School of Brussels.
Ashkelon earned wins over Belgian and German clubs en route to a fourth-place finish in the Varsity division, while Sha’ar HaNegev finished fourth in the JV bracket.
Ashkelon LC U-19 team
Ashkelon, went 3-2 on the first day of the tournament, defeating ISB Raiders Varsity (Belgium) 4-2, Frankfurt (Germany) 5-4 and Belgium U18 6-2. The two losses came to eventual-champions Hamburg (Germany) 7-0 and Braine Lions (Belgium) 4-2.
On the second day, The Fighting Alephs went 0-2, dropping to Wilmslow (England) 8-1 and Braine Lions again in the third-place game 4-3.
Sha’ar HaNegev lost its first game 7-2 to Jizni Metzo (Czech Republic) before bouncing back against Frankfurt 8-2. The Israeli squad tied 3-3 with ISB Raiders JV before falling victim to the Raiders overzealous coaching staff in a contraversial 5-4 finish.
Andrew Landsman, who served as acting coach of Ashkelon with Brian Witmer, said he was proud of what his team accomplished.
“It was great to see how they listened to the coaching and consistently improved every game,” Landsman said. “I thought the goaltending from Maxim (Vaysblekh) was great, and the attack duo of Dolev (Geva) and Ronen (Abramovich) were great at finding openings against the opposing team. Lazar (Rihter) excelled at facing off and was instrumental in getting us control of the ball after every goal.”
Sam Kramer, who shared coaching responsibilities for Sha’ar HaNegev with Niles Miller, said the players’ progress throughout the tournament was obvious.
“The experience in Belgium was a blast,” Kramer said. “The kids exceeded our expectations by far. The improvement from the first game to the last was incredible.”
Sha’ar HaNegev LC U-15 team.
Kramer had nothing but glowing reviews for the event itself.
“The atmosphere at ISB was competitive yet friendly at the same time,” he explained. Everyone was there to get better and enjoy the sport we all love. I cannot wait to come back.”

‘Iolani School
6 ‘IOLANI SCHOOL A GRADUATE of the University of California at Santa Barbara, Webster has not forgotten his basketball roots nor the ‘Iolani head coach who served as his mentor, Dr. Mark Mugiishi ’77 (aka Doc), who was ‘Iolani’s head basketball coach from 1989 to 2008 and led the Raiders to seven state and 11 ILH titles. Today, Webster and Mugiishi remain lifelong friends, and Webster is taking what he learned at ‘Iolani about coaching, leadership and One Team all the way to basketball’s top level. The ‘Iolani Bulletin wanted to know what Doc, who is the newly elected chair of ‘Iolani’s Board of Governors, has to say about his former player’s rise to the top. ‘Iolani School Bulletin: What do you re- member about Bobby when he was playing basketball at ‘Iolani? Was there a moment when you realized, “Hey, this kid is going to go far? If so, what was that moment?” Mark Mugiishi: Bobby was a born leader . . . charismatic, likable, smart. He did not seek out to be the center of attention, yet somehow he always was. People naturally congregated around him. Besides watch- ing him play basketball for ‘Iolani, I also saw him play for the Hawaii Raiders, a team that was a mix of private and public school kids who played competition on the mainland. He was the leader there too. Regardless if a player was from Punahou or Nanakuli, Bobby found a way to connect with and earn the respect of every member of the team. We used to have this play that required our point guard to dribble to a specific spot on the floor and throw a backdoor pass to a finisher for a layup. Bobby was not our point guard, but he was a great passer. So whenever we would start the 3rd quarter and whenever we HAD to have a basket, we would run this play with Bobby as the passer. So when he would go to get the ball to become the point guard for this one play, it was obvious we were going to run the play and the opposing coach would yell at his team to watch out for that pass. Yet in spite of the overwhelming odds against success with the defense fully prepared to stop it, Bobby executed this play to a basket 100% of the time . . . literally 100%. What does that take? Determination, resourcefulness, cunning, and adaptability. On the 50th time in a row that we scored on that play with the entire defense set up to stop it, I realized this kid was going to be extremely special. ISB: Have you followed Bobby’s career? What went through your mind when you heard he became the youngest NBA general manager? MM: I have followed Bobby from the day he graduated from ‘Iolani. Watching the determination that he displayed in pursuing his dream, I was not surprised that he has made history as the youngest GM in NBA history. He took risks along the way, sacrificing incredible opportunities to pick alternatives that were less predictable. I remember visiting him in the NBA office in Times Square when he was working as a legal assistant instead of being in law school. Not a traditional choice, but one made by someone relentlessly chasing a dream. As he excelled at each step along the way, I was less and less surprised at the pace that he ascended to the next level. ISB: How would you describe the One Team ethos to someone who has never heard of Father Bray or Eddie Hamada? MM: Team over self. Action over talk. Results over credit. ISB: How did you try to instill the One Team ethos in your players, including in Bobby? MM: It’s a culture at ‘Iolani, so it’s not only about what I did. But I think we all contribute to creating that culture by weaving the major tenets of the One Team philosophy into the daily execution of our activities. If you’re coaching basketball, you emphasize help on defense, passing the ball, setting the proper screen, seeing the proper spacing on the floor . . . all of the things that make you realize that you are successful in combination, not alone. One key element of this team concept in athletics is getting kids to value “bench” players more than traditional “star athletes.” You need both to win, but that national treasure is the one that comes to practice 100% of the time giving 100% always and yet gets playing time only sparingly and fan glory never. We talk a lot about the American Dream, but the unsung hero is what makes America tick. ISB: If you could let people know something about Bobby that is probably not widely known, what would that be? MM: He speaks a wicked “Kailua pidgin” second only to his dad Bob Webster. He turned down graduate school opportunities at prestigious East Coast institutions in order to pursue his dream, taking a “gopher like” job with the Orlando Magic, with a relentless determination and confidence that this would parlay into something bigger. His wedding to Lauren,in theHamptons, was amazing and featured in Vogue magazine. Their first child, son August, was born the same week Bobby was named the youngest GM in NBA history. “Bobby was a born leader . . . charismatic, likable, smart. He did not seek out to be the center of attention, yet somehow he always was.” Team over self. Action over talk. Results over credit. Talk with Dr. Mark Mugiishi ’77 aka Doc Team

In 1966 a new secondary school was opened, later it became the building of a secondary school. In 1967, the current primary school opens.
In the early years of its existence, the entire school was housed in the old castle of Fougeres. ISB became an International Baccalaureate on January 1, 1977, making it the 50th IB school in the world. [5] In addition, in 1977, the first international festival dedicated to the different cultures in the school was held. [3]
In February 2006, the school board decided to start fundraising because it determined that the tuition fees charged to its students were insufficient for its needs. [6]
Buildings and campus
ISB is located on a 162,134.6 square meters (1,745,202 square feet) forest campus. Green is the predominant color on campus. As of 2012, the oldest school age Japanese residents of Brussels attend ISB. [8] Japanese companies employing the parents of these children subsidize their education. [9]
Pan Ching-ling (彭靜蓮, pinyin: Peng Jingliang ), author of Identity reconciliation in modern Japan: the example of Kikokushijo , wrote that due to the language barrier and different external social life, many Japanese students felt isolated from English-speaking student groups such as Americans and Swedes, and often gathered together. [10] Japanese students are enrolled in an English as a Second Language program with a different curriculum. Students who have excelled in English are transferred to the regular program. The Japanese students made friends through the ESL program and continued to communicate with them even after they graduated from the English language courses. [9] Japanese students did participate in extracurricular activities based on gender. [10] Pang wrote that the ESL program for Japanese students “is frequently cited by school administrators, parents and teenagers as one of the main reasons for the rather withdrawn nature of the Japanese in the general school environment.” [9]
Pang wrote that many Japanese students have difficulty writing and speaking in English and added that because they translated their thoughts from Japanese into English, many “were unable to write essays in Standard English.” [11] Pang added that there were some Japanese students who had previously lived in English-speaking countries and had acquired a level of English proficiency. Terrible and terrible SORM2: a little practice / Habr
On Habr, half of the participants constantly scares the other by enslaving everyone and everything with SORM, which monitors traffic around the clock, saves all torrents that you download, and then someday – “They will go to you” (c)
It would seem that professional telecom administrators who are familiar with all this in practice should be present on Habré, but I haven’t met any topics on this topic (although, perhaps, I was looking badly). Therefore, based on personal experience, I would like to tell you a little how it all works in practice and what the terrible SORM, which scares everyone, is real. I emphasize that I do not make any revelations: every more or less serious system administrator or technical director in any telecom knows this, no one gives any subscriptions and there is no secret information in this.
First of all, we are talking about the Internet, i.e. SORM2. About telephone conversations, etc. I do not know anything – you need to ask the “telephonists” about this.
So, in accordance with the licensing conditions, a telecom operator before starting to operate its network (i.e., providing services to subscribers) must obtain an Operational Permit from the authority called RosSvyazNadzor, RosSvyazOhranKultury and a thousand other names (they change on average once every two years), but now it is called RosSvyazKomNadzor. Permits are issued in accordance with the Rules approved by the Government, in which it is written in black and white that the operator must resolve the issue with SORM, about which to present a “piece of paper” to the Supervision. And now the most important thing: this issue is being resolved, and a piece of paper is presented with the signature of only by the FSB and no one else . No organs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs – neither the local department of internal affairs, nor the department “K” – or the tax authorities, nor anyone else has anything to do with this. Only the FSB can monitor Internet traffic, period. Other bodies or departments have no purely physical technical capabilities for this – they do not install any equipment anywhere. By the way, this also indirectly follows from the fact that when the same department “K” needs something from an operator / hoster, he is forced to send an official document on his letterhead and signed by the head.Nobody can just call and ask to “throw off the traffic info from this IP” – operators / hosters in such cases usually just “send” (right – why do they need extra problems?) And ask to send an official request.
Why am I focusing on the FSB and why is it important in practice? It’s very simple: the FSB is a really serious organization that is engaged in the protection and protection of the country’s security as a whole. She absolutely does not care who downloads which torrents, whose copyrights are violated, and whose sites are broken (unless, of course, these are sites of state bodies). She will be much more interested in the fact that you post on twenty forums an offer to buy parts for a combat helicopter from you.
Now back to our telecom operator, who needs to coordinate the SORM issue with the FSB. Yes, formally, the operator really has to buy special equipment for $ 10k and extend a dedicated communication cable to the local FSB. However, in reality no one from small providers does this (at least, I have not heard of this). Everyone is limited to an agreement with the FSB to cooperate if they have any questions (in fact, they simply exchange contacts with their supervisor officer and the FSB technician), and the signing of the “Protocol on the procedure for interaction within the framework of the commissioning of SORM” (or “Commissioning plan… “- not the point is important), the essence of which, to put it briefly, boils down to the fact that the provider undertakes to make a” real “SORM sometime later (usually in five years). The classic principle of Khoja Nasreddin operates – in five years either the company will close, or the money for a full-fledged SORM will start working, or something else will change. Moreover, many in five years sign the next protocol of the same kind and don’t blow up.
What happens if some of the provider’s customers actually sell helicopter parts or otherwise threaten federal security? Well, they just call (or even write by e-mail) and ask to make a tcpdump of traffic from a specific address, and then send it to ftp.The provider takes it and does it. That’s all, actually.
If the provider has become big enough and has already “matured” in order not to bother with dumps, it installs FSB equipment. What is it like? I cannot vouch for everyone and everything, but what I saw were ordinary self-assembled computers in rack-mountable GenesysRack cases with Linux installed and two network girls – “input” and “output”. The provider simply mirrors traffic to the “input” (its own Internet traffic, but before NAT, of course), and assigns to the “output” (well, that is). That is, it reports to the FSB, and they themselves will assign) the external IP, through which all this is controlled. Of course, I don’t know what exactly is running under Linux, but here you don’t need to be in your forehead – some kind of packet analyzer so that you can “catch” only what is required and not drive tons of traffic to the FSB data- Centre.
That’s probably all. If you look realistically from a practical point of view, the “terrible and terrible” SORM is not Big Brother and not an attempt to monitor and enslave everyone. This is really a means of protecting the security interests of the state, which is used only for this and, in general, solves rather modest and limited tasks. Let’s face it: corporate policy in many large organizations is much harsher – they are not allowed on “classmates”, and “VKontakte” is blocked … If you do not arrange revolutions and do not sell spare parts for helicopters, then you have nothing to fear.
PS: In the comments, they pointed out that the self-collection mentioned in the topic is no longer used.Yes, I really saw this case about 3 years ago. I am glad for our FSB officers that they began to order equipment from other contractors – who either use ready-made vendor servers or assemble something more or less decent looking.
PPS: I didn’t want to raise any political debates on the topic of government surveillance of citizens, etc. in the topic, but they were raised in the comments. Therefore, I will briefly explain my position and the purpose of the topic: regardless of political views and beliefs, you need to treat everything realistically, and if something exists (for example, SORM or the same management “K”) – you should always try to learn the maximum about it in order to be able to this “use”.And from lifting up the eyes of grief and all sorts of splashing hands is useless in any case.
PPS: Posted in the blog “Telecoms”. If there are suggestions for a more adequate choice of a thematic blog – tell me.

FOREX MMCIS group reviews about forex broker
FOREX MMCIS group reviews about Forex broker
The head office of the company is located in Russia, branches in England, France, Turkey, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, Italy, Ukraine and other countries. The activity is regulated by the CFRM. It must be understood that the probability that we will return our money tends to zero. BUT!! It is our duty to at least try to create problems for our offenders – scammers from FOREX MMCIS group (let the investigation decide this).
Allegedly, they decided that everyone reads their forum and social networks, which in general is out of the question, since strict censorship and the removal of irrefutable facts from forums and groups in social networks only strained the situation and the nerves of investors. Only Komysa tried to explain something about the situation in the company, about the theft of money from accounts, about raider attacks, etc.etc., forever imprinting his physiognomy in the history of FOREX MMCIS group. A few weeks before the complete collapse, Konstantin Kondakov, who had been the flag of the FOREX MMCIS group all this time, escaped from the ship like the first rat.
Please understand this situation and oblige FOREX MMCIS group to return my money in the amount of ______ to me. It can be assumed that the Forex market will have to disown this company for a long time after the collapse of the FOREX MMCIS group, and may even fear for his life.
In addition, a wide variety of trading contests, Forex tournaments and even car raffles are constantly held here. Due to small amounts of initial capital, bonuses and a demo trading option, earnings with FOREX MMCIS group are publicly available. Affiliate programs allow individuals and legal entities to earn financial news. The first category includes collaboration schemes for Internet users (word of mouth) and webmasters (“Web presence”).Both programs involve receiving $ 100-150 in one-time payments for each trader or receiving 15% of the spread on their trades.
“It is a very difficult task to get money from offshore companies, which were originally created to hide them,” says Vladimir Efremov, partner of the law firm Trendlaw. Broker FOREX MMCIS group was founded in 2007 by MMCIS investments. The company is registered in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
Where, then, again and again, we see on the network and receive complaints from their contributors to our address? The question is rhetorical.
A lot of free time, so the idea of making money on the Internet came up. But I haven’t tried it yet, although I really want to start, but I’m afraid not to lose it. Please tell me where to start, what is the minimum amount you need to pay?
I am interested in details, since there is a lot of information, but it is all different. I would like to know something from the professionals http://www.xn--schlermediator-isb.de/?p=1682 of this business. Initially, when I first heard about FOREX MMCIS group, I thought it was just another trap.
Alexander Buinov advertises scammers MMCIS
- The regulator of MMSiS indicated the independent organization TsROFR (Center for Regulation of Relations in Financial Markets), however, what’s the point if, until 2016, brokerage activities in the Russian Federation were not officially regulated at all.
- “Based on the materials we have, I would not say that MMCIS Investments, Internet Global Technology and Forex MMCIS Group position themselves as a single structure or group.
- The FOREX market MMCIS group became interested not so long ago.
That is why a decree was passed on the creation of a separate division providing all the advantages of working in the Forex market, this division over time was transformed into a dealing center “FOREX MMCIS group”. The regulator of MMSiS indicated the independent organization TsROFR (Center for Regulation of Relations in Financial Markets), however, what’s the point if, until 2016, brokerage activities in the Russian Federation were not officially regulated at all.Four years ago, all state regulators in Ukraine – NBU, NKTSFBR, National Commission of Financial Services, refused to regulate the work of the Forex MMCIS group. In Russia today, according to the law, only the Central Bank, but not the Central Bank of Russia, has all the powers to regulate the investment activities of firms in the Forex market.
The director of the company Anatoly Kashkin then reported that MMCIS Investments was associated with the Forex MMCIS group, although events in the world of finance have different founders. However, in a commentary by EP, Kondakov denied the connection between these structures.
The defrauded depositors of the bankrupt forex broker Forex MMCIS Group demanded that Russian banks return their money on their cards (charge back operation), sources in the banking market told Kommersant newspaper on Monday, February 9th. MMCIS group has become interested in the FOREX market not so long ago.
Check out at least the real letter presented below from one of the clients of the stupid bred a broker review from the FOREX MMCIS group. The woman simply transferred the amount of 3 thousand dollars to their account.
The card is a visa, such as most of us have. The poor, fooled investor does not give details of the deal, probably feeling embarrassed and humiliated. “If we rely on the materials we have, I would not say that MMCIS Investments, Internet Global Technology and Forex MMCIS Group position themselves as a single structure or group.
