Central College offers a number of sports related camps and clinics. Instructors will include members of the Central College coaching staff and outstanding high school coaches from throughout the Midwest. Courage League Sports is a non-profit adaptive sports and recreational organization that offers year-round programming. CLS typically offers a number of summer camp and class opportunities for school aged kids with special needs. At Drake summer camps, young athletes not only learn to become better players but also will be challenged with motivational lessons on sportsmanship, leadership and teamwork. They will be hosting camps for football, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, volleyball, tennis, and track. Drake University Bulldogs have cancelled all May and June camps. However, we are continuing to move forward with offering camps in July. The First Tee of Central Iowa conducts summer instruction sessions in June and July. Golfers are grouped by age and experience level. Golf equipment (starter set of clubs with bag) is provided, if needed, as long as supplies last and “scholarships” are available to help cover program costs. Each lesson covers: life skills, rules and etiquette, full swing, short game and putting. 2020 Clinics have been canceled.

Junior Camps offered at West Grand Golf provide a complete introduction to the fundamentals of the game, rules and etiquette. Chasing Laurels offers summer day camps throughout the summer months. Each camp is five days of fun on and off the horses! Camp Includes: daily riding time and horsemanship guidance, demonstrations by a vet and a farrier, sessions on the care and nutrition of horses, horse related games and crafts and much more. No riding experience necessary, Camp is Monday- Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (before and after care can be arranged).

JPEC offers a number of Equestrian Camps throughout the summer. Equestrian camps are a wonderful way for a child to discover the world of horses. Classes are offered for beginner to intermediate riders. They also offer overnight camp. Kids as young as five can participate in their Tiny Tots programs. All other classes are for campers eight and up. And, new this year they will be hosting a High School Camp. Most indoor and outdoor programs are cancelled through June 30. This includes summer camps.

Valley Park offers full day horse camps during the summer. Their day camps offer a wide range of equestrian activities throughout the day including daily lessons on horseback, horsemanship, barn chores and other fun activities. Horse camp is open to campers ages 6-14. Camp is geared toward the beginner and intermediate rider. No riding experience required. Camps run from 9:00 am until 2:30 pm.

This clinic, run by the Des Moines Metro Pickleball Club, is an exciting way to learn about the quickly growing sport of Pickleball. Ages 10 years old and up may attend this clinic. All skill levels are welcome to attend. Participants will gain a basic understanding of the sport and how to play. All equipment will be provided at the clinic. The clinic will be held Thursday, June 17 and Tuesday, June 22. Register

Mini Sluggers T-ball, sponsored by Farmers State Bank, will run for five weeks with separate leagues on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Mini Sluggers gives kids the opportunity to participate in a summer t-ball league while teaching them basic fundamentals through practice and games. Foam bats and balls must be used in this league and will be provided for each team. Teams will be formed at random. Children must be 4 years old by July 1, 2021. Pee Wee Golf is coming back to Sugar Creek Municipal Golf Course! Children ages 5-8 will develop a solid base in the game that will help them enjoy golf for a lifetime. Thinking of leaving your child at home alone this summer? Make sure they are safe! This class is taught by members of the Waukee Police and Fire Departments. They will provide educational tools and safety tips to help keep your child safe and aware of dangers in and around your house. Drinks and snacks will be provided. These 30-minute programs are designed for little gymnasts to learn and increase basic tumbling motions in a group environment. In conjunction with Iowa’s Free Fishing Weekend during which fishing licenses are not required for fishing, the Rotary Club of Waukee, the Waukee Parks & Recreation Department and Iowa State University Extension & Outreach of Dallas County are hosting a fishing event utilizing the Fish Iowa! curriculum. Participants in K-6th grades will learn key fishing skills such as baiting, casting, reeling and fish and wildlife ethics through rotating stations. The event is free, however, the youth workshops do require advance registration.

The camp will be held at the Dallas County Fairgrounds and cover a variety of topics relating to Iowa’s outdoors. Possible topics that will be covered will include native wildlife species, fishing, Iowa pollinators & native species, and more. These topics will be covered through fun, hands on activities and projects. Camp will be held for kids grades 2nd-6th on June 8-9 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Register

Each summer, the Waukee Police Department hosts Safety City – a week-long course for STUDENTS ENTERING KINDERGARTEN. Learn about safety from police officers and volunteer youth mentors. A miniature city is used to teach students about street safety, seat belts, when to call 911, respect for authority, bullying and more. Safety City incorporates classroom time, hands-on practice and a field trip to the Public Safety Building. A short graduation ceremony is held at the end of the week as well. After proving that Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD) can also show up in adulthood, the “new adults” who had never been diagnosed before were the fastest growing segment of the market, as Angus Russell, then CEO of the pharmaceutical company Shire, acknowledged in 2011.Medical analytics company IMS Health reported 16 million ADHD prescriptions for people aged 20 to 39 in 2012.

Central nervous system stimulants are mainly used for treatment, primarily Ritalin, Adderall, Concerta, Focalin and Vyvanse.
