Dr. Jennifer Cooper chosen for 2021 NCAA Division III New FAR Orientation
Dr. Jennifer Cooper, Ph.D., has been selected to attend the 2021 NCAA Division III faculty athletics representative (FAR) Orientation on February 18-20, 2021.
Division III is a leader in supporting the role of the FAR in governance, strategic planning, establishing academic standards, and, most importantly, advocating for student-athletes. Because faculty athletics representatives are such a vital link in any Division III institution’s strategic communications chain, FARs can help explain in a positive manner the complex relationship between intercollegiate athletics and higher education.
The event will be held virtually this year due to concerns about COVID-19.
Dr. Cooper is an assistant professor of nursing at Hood College. She started at Hood in 2016 after earning her doctorate of nursing practice from The George Washington University. She was awarded the Nursing Distinguished Alumni Award from The George Washington University in 2020 and the Maryland Higher Education Commission Academic Nurse Educator Certification Award in 2019. Cooper earned her Master of Science in Nursing in 2011 from Rush. Her education began at Cedarville University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1995.
“While I have always appreciated collegiate sports, I now have been provided with a unique perspective in my new role as FAR at Hood College,” said Dr. Cooper. “As a nurse, I know that sports promote physical and mental health. Coaches and athletic staff are part of the team that supports students in their overall college experience. I look forward to this orientation to prepare me to support this valuable connection between sports and academics!”
An FAR is a member of the faculty at an NCAA institution that has been designated to serve as a liaison between the institution and the athletic department and represent the institution at NCAA conferences. Each institution determines the exact role of their FAR but a common responsibility is ensuring the institution maintains the appropriate balance between academics and intercollegiate athletics.
“Dr. Cooper’s understanding of the rigorous challenges our student-athletes face, combined with her empathy and belief that athletics are instrumental in the overall educational process, leads me to believe that she is an excellent fit for this FAR role,” said Dr. Susan Kolb, Hood’s director of athletics. “Gaining this experience for Dr. Cooper to meet other FARs and work with representatives from the NCAA will not only benefit her, but our academic mission for Blazer athletics.”
The New FAR Orientation program is offered in response to the NCAA Division III FAR Engagement Working Group’s recommendation to implement a seamless education model to orient new FARs and support them through their tenure in the position. It includes pre-work activities, which have been designed to maximize the time at the orientation and the overall impact of the program. The orientation will take place for two consecutive years (2020, 2021 etc.) and then alternate with a year of the FAR Fellows Leadership Institute (2022, 2025, etc.).

Men’s Basketball Graduate Assistant – Hood College
The Student Life Assistant, Men’s Basketball, under the general direction of the Director of Athletics, will assist the head coach in recruiting qualified student-athletes to the program, instruct and develop the student-athlete in the sport of basketball, game preparation, and community involvement. Instruction should include, but not limited to the rules, strategies, and techniques relating to practice and competition in this sport. The head coach provides administrative support to the College’s NCAA Division III program. The head coach will also support the mission and goals of the Athletic Department.
Requirements Other duties may be assigned.
Accepted into a Master’s Degree Program at Hood College required.
Compensation may consist of a tuition waiver and an annual stipend for a full-time Student Life Assistant (SLA).
Tuition Waiver for full-time SLA’s is limited to no more than 12 credits per academic year; in general, must be enrolled in a minimum of six graduate credits per semester.
Typically a full-time SLA is required to work 20 hours per week from mid-August to mid-May.
Coaching, Instruction, and Team Administration (60%)
Assist the head coach to organize and conduct practices during the traditional season (as defined by the National Collegiate Athletic Association) for the sport. Non-traditional (or out of season) season practices may be required;
Assist the coach with one-on-one or teaching instruction on related skill development and critique, rules, technologies and strategies;
Assist the Head coach to serve as the representative of the department and the College during team travel for in- and out-of-season competition;
Assist the head coach in management of operational budget issues: Participate in uniform and equipment purchase process; help plan and coordinate team travel under the supervision of Director of Athletics’ Office; help develop and implement fund-raising strategies;
Assist the head coach to complete in-and off-season scheduling for the program. Work within NCAA guidelines regarding start of season, dates of competition and end of season;
Represent the Department of Athletics at all on-campus Admissions Open Houses and/or other predetermined events;
Other duties as assigned by the head coach.
Recruiting (30%)
Assist the head coach in developing a recruiting strategy to achieve recruiting goals as pre-approved with the Director of Athletics. Work with Assistant Athletic Director and Office of Admission to recruit qualified prospective student-athletes, both incoming freshmen and transfers to Hood College. Education
Bachelor’s degree and accepted into a Master’s Degree Program at Hood College required. Proven successful coaching with 2-3 years of experience preferred, preferably at the collegiate level. Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills required.
Technology Skills
Computer proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, such as, Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. Proficient with internet and email. Ability to use available instructional technology resources to effectively teach in a manner conducive to classroom presentation including, but not limited to, use of audio visual equipment, computer, educational software, etc.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone. Ability to work with and apply basic mathematical concepts timely and accurately, either manually or by using a calculator.

Academics
Hood College is a small, private liberal arts school near Baltimore, Maryland where students feel like “part of a family and not just a number.” Hood’s “tradition-rich atmosphere” binds students together in an “academically-driven and cohesive community that encourages the pursuit of individual interests with direct support from the faculty.” “Students [. . .] are always the number one priority,” one student explains. This “extremely friendly and supportive atmosphere” is due, in part, to the low student-to-faculty ratio, which allows “you get to know your professors one-on-one.” “My professors know my name, what I’m involved in outside of class, and who I am as an individual person,” one student explains. Student’s praise the “many resources” Hood makes available to students, including the Center for Academic Achievement and Retention, “a great program that helps students with writing and math.” One student even says, “The library has become my second home.” Some say that “the standards are a little high and the workload can be very demanding,” but overall students agree that academic resources are available and most professors “are happy to meet with you outside of class or provide extra support if you’re having trouble with an assignment.”
Student Body
Hood’s student body is very diverse in terms of interests, students agree. “Everyone works well together, and we have a very cohesive community.” The “clearly-defined groups” on campus aren’t exclusionary: Hood College “is not clique-y at all,” and “there is never a feeling that you can’t or shouldn’t interact with people in other social, athletic, or academic groups.” Many students “come from the Washington D.C. or Baltimore area,” and they are “friendly, positive and enthusiastic.” According to some, the typical student is interested in athletics, while others say Hood has “a colorful smattering of people from all walks of life, each with a different perspective on the world.” Most agree that it is “easy to form tight friendships,” and they have “never had trouble making friends or gathering classmates for study groups.”

The Hood College campus is right next to downtown Frederick, where students can find “so many good restaurants,” “lots of local shops and entertainment,” “a beautiful park, movie theaters, a good mall, and….for those of legal drinking age, the downtown bar scene is excellent.” “On weekends, there are often off-campus trips to places like Ski Liberty, Baltimore, and Washington D.C,” which are each only about an hour away. Every week “a club or the campus activity board will try to have an event planned.” “Wednesday nights are Whitaker Wednesdays,” when the school hosts a fun activity on campus like trivia or game night. “May Madness and Homecoming Weekend are full of activities on the quad,” one student explains, “which bring together not just students but the community.” And commuter students are made to feel “included in the campus life and activities because they have a commuter club and a commuter lounge.”

The mother of the deceased student applied to the department. Natalya Andreeva , Meduza reports (the publication was recognized by the foreign agent of the Ministry of Justice). She asks the UK to check if there is a link between a student’s suicide in 2020 and the school shooting on May 11 this year.
According to the mother of the deceased, her son Daniel committed suicide on May 10, 2020 – a year and one day before the shooting. He studied at the TISBI college for a course younger than Galyaviev.
Daniel was admitted to a psychiatric hospital, where he spent a month after two suicide attempts. After the hospital, he refused to return to college, after which he first transferred to the correspondence department, and then dropped out.
In an interview with Interfax, Andreeva said that in the last months of her life, her son’s behavior changed. He became aggressive, distanced himself from his family, and began to dress in black.
– He became very aggressive, dressed in black clothes, wore a mask and a hood, said that he was a god and pushed the family away sharply.He stopped calling his stepfather father and began to call him Maxim, although from childhood he called him dad. When I saw this [Galyaviev] and what he was saying, I saw my child. He spoke the same words as my son, – says Andreeva.
On the fact of suicide, a criminal case was initiated on bringing to suicide, however, the investigators did not find corpus delicti, after which the case was closed.
On May 13, she was summoned for an interview at the Investigative Committee, where she was informed that “the case was now taken under control and will be raised again.”

“I, as a god, want everyone to recognize themselves as my slaves. You must do absolutely whatever I want. There should be no living creatures in the world, this is the mistake of the universe. Later, the Investigative Committee stated that Galyaviev was diagnosed with a brain disease, and earlier he had repeatedly sought medical help in connection with severe headaches.

Academic dress for graduation ceremony
While wearing full academic dress, the person wears a robe, hood and headdress of the highest degree that he or she has already received at the University of Cambridge. Anyone who does not have a Cambridge degree (such as a student or graduate from another university) usually wears a dress in accordance with his or her status at Cambridge, i.e. student, bachelor’s or master’s status (see below), albeit without a tie that attached to gowns of Cambridge graduates.Graduates of other universities may wear the academic attire of these universities on red days if they are not university officials or attend graduation ceremonies, but this is only allowed since 1998 [2].
The graduate (one who is about to obtain an advanced degree) wears the full academic uniform of Cambridge with the highest degree of status they already have. Graduates who do not yet have a Cambridge degree wear a dress appropriate for their university status, as well as the hood of the degree they intend to enroll in.Students who do not yet have an advanced degree wear their student hooded robe of the degree they are about to earn. [3] For example, an undergraduate graduate with a bachelor’s degree wears a bachelor’s robe and hood. A Cambridge bachelor’s degree PhD wears a hood and a bachelor’s gown, while a Ph.D. graduate from another university wears a bachelor’s or master’s gown and a Ph.D. hood.
In the case of medical students completing clinical years, graduates wear the mantle and hood of the Bachelor of Medicine degree. This is due to the fact that the Bachelor of Arts degree is awarded by correspondence, as soon as the list of people who passed the final MB exam is posted outside the Senate building. This was done in order to avoid the need for a “double graduation” ceremony. Thus, it is common practice for students to rent B.Chir rather than buying it as it is replaced by the MB academic form after graduation. In the case of students who have completed their preclinical and clinical years at Cambridge, many alumni and alumni do not buy MB academic attire, but simply hire it for any occasions requiring academic attire (Formal alumni hall, etc.), as this is only replaced by a couple years later when the automatic Oxbridge MA is awarded. How to determine which dress to wear
Robes used in Cambridge, like those commonly used in the UK but not in the US, have an open outlet.The main types that can be seen are the undergraduate, bachelor and master of arts dress, although the sleeves of the prom dresses are decorated with various patterns that indicate the exact degree or degrees they possess, and make it possible to determine this even when not wearing hoods. In addition, during the days of the Scarlet Order, doctors (either philosophers or representatives of one of the more senior doctoral degrees) wear special evening dresses that are distinguished by the use of scarlet color.
Bachelor
All undergraduate student dresses resemble knee-length BA dresses, and the basic dress is black, reaching just below the knee, with an open pointed sleeve and a forearm seam left open.In most colleges, this pattern has minor variations, such as embellishments on the sleeves. The most prominent differences are the blue of the Trinity and Kai graduate students’ dresses and Selwyn’s blue veneer. Bachelor and Master

The two most common graduation gowns in Cambridge are the BA gown and the MA gown. Unlike most other universities besides Oxford and Dublin, no bachelor’s degree is awarded, with the exception of a bachelor’s degree. All students at Cambridge have traditionally earned a bachelor’s degree after three years, although now many science graduates also earn a master’s degree, such as MEng or MSci, after the next year and earn both degrees once.
As in Oxford and Dublin, bachelors are automatically eligible for a Master of Arts degree after a certain period of time (see also Master of Arts (Oxbridge and Dublin)). In Cambridge, this period is six years from the end of the first semester after admission to the university, provided that at least two years have passed since the award of the Bachelor of Science degree [6]. Therefore, bachelors are eligible for a master’s degree at the first graduation ceremony in the seventh calendar.year after enrollment.

The MA dress is similar to the BA dress, except that it has “boot” sleeves, long, rectangular and closed at the ends, with a crescent cut at each end of the sleeve that curves at the top (unlike Oxford MA.dress) and a horizontal slit on the arm just above the elbow. It falls down to the calves (slightly longer than the BA robe) and may be silk. MA hood in black silk with white silk lining.
Other master’s degree dresses vary from subject to subject at Cambridge; for example Master of Engineering (MEng) and M.Sci. robes are the standard MA gown, but with a drawstring circle on each sleeve and a matching hood. The MPhil dress is the same as the MSci dress, but instead of an embroidered wheel, it has two buttons connected by a vertical cord running from the sleeve opening to the shoulder.
Individuals without a Cambridge degree (including a degree from another university) wear a BA or MA gown that is identical to a BA or MA gown, but with “ties” (black ribbons attached to the inside of the shoulder.) Removed. The BA dress is for those under the age of twenty-four, and the MA dress is for those twenty-four and older. (The reason is that Cambridge students usually go to university at 18, bachelor’s degrees three years later, at 21, and master’s degrees three years later, at 24.)

Hats

As of 2020, 86 of the 203 law schools in the United States that are accredited by the American Bar Association for the Juris Doctor degree had branches of the Order of the Coif. That year, all but five of the top 50 law schools, according to US News & World Report’s ranking of , were member schools. The rest, Boston University School of Law, Columbia Law School, Harvard Law School, George Mason University School of Law, and Notre Dame Law School, never looked to the chapter.Notre Dame and Colombia are not eligible to participate because they do not rank the top 10% graduates by GPA, as required by the order’s constitution.
For a law school to open a branch, the school must apply for a charter. If the organization’s executive committee, after considering written submissions from the law school and its own investigation (which may include a visiting team review of the school), decides that the applicant deserves a chapter, it will apply to vote for the existing chapters.The charter for a new chapter requires 80% of the existing chapters to be approved.
Criteria to be considered when applying for Chapter of the Order by a law school include: (1) approval by the American Bar Association and the American Law Schools Association; (2) at least ten years of existence of the law school; (3) university affiliation; (4) if a part-time JD program exists, the part-time program should offer students and faculty associated with the part-time program the same scholarship opportunities as all other students and faculty members; (5) a stimulating intellectual environment for the study of law; (6) the commitment of the university administration and the faculty of law to quality legal education; (7) teaching scholarships and institutional support for them; (8) a varied educational program; (9) a diverse student body with a strong academic record; (10) a law library that will support and encourage research activities; and (11) appropriate physical capabilities.
A law school can also be expelled from the Order if a two-thirds majority of the participating schools agree to put the matter to a vote, and then a four-fifths majority (excluding the school in question) votes to expel the school.
The University of Illinois College of Law established the first Chapter Order of the Hood in 1902.

Due to decorative elements, which seem to be randomly scattered along the hem and back, the impression of movement, fluidity is created, like in spring in the tundra. To create the lakes, natural leather of blue and blue shades is used, embroidered with matte and transparent beads. Bugles are used to display the flowing waterfalls. “Full delight!” – this is how the chairman of the commission, Alexander Alekseevich Slesarev, expressed his admiration.

Three excellent diploma works, performed under the direction of Victoria Anufrievna Popova, were presented on the artistic processing of wood and bone.

Vladimir Kolokoltsev announced the liquidation of two clandestine drug laboratories in the Yaroslavl region and the seizure of more than a ton of synthetic drugs.
Today, at a meeting of the State Anti-Drug Committee, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Police General of the Russian Federation Vladimir Kolokoltsev, announced the suppression of the activities of a criminal group that organized the production of synthetic drugs in clandestine laboratories in the Tutaevsky district of the Yaroslavl region.
“As a result of operational-search measures and investigative actions, active participants were detained and brought to criminal responsibility.
More than a ton of synthetic drugs, to be more precise, 1287 kg, precursors, as well as related equipment were withdrawn from the illegal turnover. It has been established that the production capacities of the two liquidated drug laboratories made it possible to produce about one and a half million average single doses every month, ”stressed the Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
On the trail of the intruders, the police came out after they found a cache of 20 kg of a substance known as “salt” near the village of Ishmanovo in the Yaroslavl Region during the processing of the information received. Further work made it possible to get on the trail of a courier who regularly supplied bulk drug shipments to the capital region. Then, in the city of Tutaev, the location of one of the clandestine laboratories was established. It was organized in a warehouse that was also used as a transshipment base.A little later, on the territory of an agricultural cooperative, police officers discovered another building, which the accused had acquired specifically for the illegal production of drugs.
Three criminal cases were initiated on the grounds of a crime provided for in part 3 of article 30 and part 5 of article 228.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Two of the detainees were given a preventive measure in the form of detention, the third – a written undertaking not to leave the place and proper behavior. A preliminary investigation is ongoing.
