Toccatatones, Petal Points, Off-Beats The a cappella ensembles at High Point University are a favorite club for many students on campus, either as singers or enthusiastic listeners.
Each ensemble holds auditions at the beginning of the academic year and is completely run and staffed by students. They perform regularly at on and off-campus events and have a successful track record of performing at local and national a cappella competitions. All three ensembles have recordings available on all major online platforms.

Kappa Delta Pi
The High Point University chapter, Kappa Mu, of Kappa Delta Pi , the International Honor Society in Education was established in 1965. Undergraduates with an academic record of achieving at least a 3.2 GPA are invited to apply for membership. The application includes not only the academic record but also the commitment to a career in teaching and involvement in campus activities.
The chapter recognizes the mission of KDP is to sustain an honored community of diverse educators by promoting excellence and advancing scholarship, leadership, and service.
The chapter promotes the vision of helping committed educators to become leaders in improving education for global leadership.
A major project of the chapter is a Literacy Alive event each year. In the past, a collection of photographs were taken by members, printed and placed in notebooks for teachers to use as writing prompts for their students. Books have been collected and given to children who do not have access to books at home. Other activities have included Dorm Storming for the Box Tops for Education labels, joint movies/collecting school supplies with TOT [Teachers of Tomorrow] and NCAEE [NC Association of Elementary Educators].

North Carolina Association of Elementary Educators
The North Carolina Association of Elementary Educators (NCAEE), founded in fall 2005, is the only professional organization in North Carolina—and one of two in the nation—established expressly to advocate for and serve elementary educators and elementary level children.
The goals of NCAEE are to:
- promote professionalism
- provide opportunities for leadership
- provide opportunities for networking with other elementary educators
- serve as a voice/advocate for elementary educators and children
- provide resources that support elementary educators
- develop and maintain partnerships for teacher education
- promote awareness of practices based on scientific research
- promote rigor in instruction.
High Point University is fortunate to have an onsite cohort within Region 5. Undergraduate and graduate Elementary Education candidates meet together on a monthly basis to learn about new mandates, initiatives, and cutting edge best practices in the elementary educational arena. Meetings are not only informative, but FUN!
Two distinctive features of the HPU NCAEE cohort:
- Annual Regional Conference held on the campus of High Point University each spring.
HPU NCAEE cohort members play a key role in the planning and hosting of this event. Conference participants from the 11 counties in Region 5 have enjoyed wonderful keynote and break out session speakers over the years. The keynote for this year’s conference is nationally known and highly sought after Kathy Bumgartner! - Annual Outreach Project. Each fall, one elementary school is chosen to be the recipient of the outreach efforts. This year, HPU NCAEE cohort members painted stools to gift every teacher at an area partner school, Florence Elementary.
HPU NCAEE cohort members play a key role in the planning and hosting of this event. Teachers of Tomorrow
Teachers of Tomorrow (TOT) is an organization started by High Point University students and fully chartered by the Student Government Association. The organization is home to those interested in education as well as majors from all areas. TOT allows future educators an opportunity to fellowship at meetings about classes and fieldwork, as well as an opportunity to gain insight about the future career in teaching.
TOT has worked in the past with tutoring at local schools, helped with Halloween and Easter carnivals for elementary students, and produced treats for teachers and students at nearby schools. During each meeting once a month, new business about upcoming service is discussed and members complete an activity related to education. TOT also brings guest speakers to talk to students about the fascinating career of Education. If you are interested in joining TOT, you may speak with any of the Education faculty or the officers listed. Teachers of Tomorrow is a fun way to meet other Education majors and share experiences- You don’t want to miss out being involved in this fun organization!

Student Council for Exceptional Children
The Student Council for Exceptional Children consists of majors from across campus of High Point University with a common interest in promoting awareness and providing support for individuals with disabilities. Students are provided discounted membership into the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), which allows students to network and build professional relationships outside of the university. Student members are also encouraged to attend and even present at CEC functions at the state level. Each year, this group, in conjunction with the High Point Parks and Recreation, provides entertainment for the Special Pops dances held three times per year. The members also provide support for local teachers by volunteering in the classrooms and providing materials for special projects. In addition, the student members assist with the organization and upkeep of the Red Room located at Welborn Middle School in High Point.
The Red Room provides clothes, food, and toiletries to those in need in the surrounding area.

Interest clubs help to reveal the creative potential of everyone

Being a student means not only going to lectures and taking exams. Student years are the happiest time when you can reveal all your talents, realize yourself in creativity, find your favorite hobby.
As students of the Financial University say, they try to devote 70-80 percent of their time to their main activity – that is, to study, and spend the rest on hobbies that energize and inspire.
“Creating a socio-cultural space for the formation of a personality with a high level of culture, a developed civic-patriotic consciousness, aesthetic taste and readiness for self-realization in the creative and professional fields is the mission that the Office of Extracurricular Work translates into real life,” says the head of the Office of Extracurricular Work Financial University Nikolay Trofimovich Shestaev.
During the academic year for students of the Financial University and with their active participation, the famous festival Urban Fest, the “Big Student Ball” and, of course, Freshman’s Day, which is traditionally celebrated in the Kremlin Palace or in Crocus City Hall, are held.
The organization of extracurricular life at the Financial University is carried out by the Student Council, which is led by the students themselves.
This makes it possible to take into account all interests: some of the guys really like to play chess, some to dance, and some to fly paragliding or go to the mountains.

Club movement at the Financial University develops according to the principle: there is interest – there is a club. One of the most popular intellectual clubs is chess. The club is headed by FIDE Grandmaster, European Champion Ernesto Inarkiev and FIDE Grandmaster Daniil Dubov.
The University Choir is a laureate of numerous festivals, its performances were held in the Bolshoi and Rachmaninov halls of the Moscow Conservatory corporations and companies”, “Experience of Russian entrepreneurs from the first person”, “Development of soft skills of Business Club participants”. The club’s master classes are attended by managers and executives of the largest companies: Unilever, P&G, MTS, Beeline, Starbucks, KPMG, Deloitte, Ernst&Young, PWC, Henkel, Goldman Sachs, L’Oreal, Microsoft and many others.
The Financial University also has a Debate Club, Oratory Club LOGOS, Personality and Career Club, Leading Club. For intellectuals who want to prove themselves in such games as: “What? Where? When?”, “Brain-ring”, “Own game”, “Erudite-quartet”, “Club of intellectual games” was created at the university.
FinSport is the largest club with more than 2500 students. It holds competitions and sports days , collects teams to participate in city and international sports games in many sports.0003
And then there’s the Expedition Club. Last year, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Financial University, the club team climbed the highest point in Europe and Russia – Elbrus (5642 m) and hoisted the flag of the Financial University. In the new year, the club is planning new grandiose expeditions within the framework of the Russia: From Edge to Edge project.
And you can, for example, take and enroll in a choir. Moreover, the choir of the Financial University is a multiple winner of international and all-Russian festivals and competitions, its performances were held in the Grand and Rachmaninov halls of the Moscow Conservatory.
During the two years of the work of the historical-patriotic detachment, students were able to discover and ceremonially bury the remains of 26 Soviet soldiers. In 2014, the student theater “Slovo” appeared at the Financial University. A year earlier, the “Volunteer Center” was actively working. Volunteers of the Financial University supervise the Vyazma House of Mercy for orphans, as well as orphanages in the Vladimir and Ryazan regions.
The goal set by the historical-patriotic detachment, created in 2016, is to perpetuate the memory of the fallen defenders of the Motherland during the Great Patriotic War. During the two years of the detachment’s work, the students were able to discover and ceremonially bury 26 soldiers of the Red Army. In 2018, the historical-patriotic detachment received the status of an official search detachment, was registered in the register of search detachments of Russia and was named the search detachment “In Memory of the 13th Division of the People’s Militia”.
Student life does not stop even during the summer holidays. Every year, students of the Financial University have a rest in a sports and recreation camp on the Black Sea coast.
“Entering a university can open any door for a young person,” says Anastasia Voskhodova. “The Financial University has every opportunity for this. However, how to use these opportunities depends only on the student himself.”
