Shorts pattern for a girl with an elastic band Silviya

Shorts pattern consists of 5 parts:

• front – 2 parts
• backrest – 2 parts
• pocket burlap – 4 pieces total
• belt – 1 piece per fold

• denim fabric – 80 cm.
• elastic band 2.5 cm wide, equal to the measurement of waist circumference minus 8 cm.

01. I cut out the details of the shorts along with the allowances that are already included in the pattern. I made the burlap pockets from a different fabric, so they are not here.

02. I connect the parts along the middle sections. To do this, I alternately lay the details of the shelf and back on top of each other with the front sides inward, cleave with pins, grind on a sewing machine.

I overcast the sections from shedding on an overlock, you can do the same operation with a zigzag stitch on a typewriter.

I iron the middle seams on either side.

If you are sewing from a heavy fabric like jeans or denim, I would recommend topstitching the seams. For what? So that when worn, the cuts fit snugly against the fabric and do not scratch the skin. To do this, the allowance is sewn onto the part.

This is what this line looks like in action. If you look at denim things, you can find it there quite often.

03. I start sewing pockets with a cutting barrel.

I put the burlap pockets on the front parts of the shorts with the right sides inside. I fasten the patterns together with pins.

Sew pocket burlap onto shorts on each side.

04. I lay a 1 mm line along the burlap of the pockets. from the edge, sewing an allowance on burlap. This step is necessary so that when worn, the pockets do not pop out.

05. Every 4 cm with the tip of the scissors I make cuts along the allowance not reaching the line by 1 mm.

06. I take the second parts of burlap.

I put the burlaps on top of each other with the right sides inside. I fasten with pins.

Shorts do not need to be fastened!

I grind burlaps together on a sewing machine, overcast the cut on an overlock.

Here is what I got from the front side, the pocket with the side cut is ready!

You are probably wondering how it happened that the burlap turned out to be the main fabric on the front side. I reveal the secret, I just sew a piece of fabric on the visible part of the entrance to the pocket. I didn’t come up with this, this technique is used when sewing pockets, and this small piece of fabric is called a valance.

07. Lay the front and back pieces of the shorts on top of each other right sides inward.

I fasten the parts together with pins along the side cuts. I sew on a sewing machine, overcast the cuts.

I iron the seams on the back.

08. It remains to assemble the shorts along the crotch. What I am doing.

I iron the instep seams on the shelf. I overcast the cuts of the bottom of the trousers on an overlock.

09. I start processing the belt. I sew the part of the belt together, while leaving an entrance for threading the elastic – 2 cm.

I put the belt on the shorts along the waistline, fasten it with pins.

Moreover, the hole for the elastic must be at the bottom and be aligned with the middle cut on the back.

I sew the belt on the machine, iron the allowance up.

11. I bend the belt in half, fix it with pins.

I sew a stitch along the front side, getting the needle into the sewing seam. With this, I kind of hide the line inside, and it becomes invisible from the front side.

12. The elastic band can now be inserted into the waistband.

I sew the ends of the elastic bands together with an overlap.
