What is the significance of JT’s new “No Bars” video. How does it relate to her solo career. What inspired the creation of this freestyle track. How does JT address her personal struggles through music.
JT’s Solo Debut: “No Bars” Video Release
City Girls’ JT has made a striking solo comeback with the release of her new video for “No Bars”. This marks her first solo single since 2019’s “JT First Day Out”, signaling a potential new chapter in her career. The video, dedicated to her late friend Monica Suh, opens with a poignant scene in Paris, setting the tone for a deeply personal narrative.
The visual storytelling in “No Bars” is both raw and stylized. It features JT in various settings, including a bathroom and what appears to be an old prison with blue bars matching her hair. These scenes are interspersed with footage of JT with friends and fans, as well as nostalgic montages featuring her City Girls partner, Yung Miami.
Lyrical Prowess and Personal Expression
JT’s lyrics in “No Bars” showcase her characteristic boldness and self-assurance. She raps, “I’m low-key, bitches fuck with my anxiety/I’m prayed up, and I’m waitin’ on my rivalry,” demonstrating her ability to weave personal struggles with confident assertions. The track serves as a platform for JT to address her critics and reaffirm her position in the rap game.
Inspiration Behind the Freestyle
In an Instagram post, JT shared the inspiration behind “No Bars”. She revealed that the freestyle was born out of a moment of frustration, when she felt doubted and misunderstood by others. Instead of succumbing to these negative emotions, JT channeled them into her music, using the studio as a space for catharsis and self-expression.
JT’s Journey: From Incarceration to Empowerment
“No Bars” follows JT’s 2019 release “JT First Day Out”, which marked her return to music after serving nearly two years in prison for credit card fraud charges. This new track represents not just a continuation of her career, but a statement of personal growth and resilience.
No Bars Reform Initiative
Alongside her musical endeavors, JT has announced the launch of No Bars Reform, a program aimed at helping previously incarcerated women reintegrate into society. This initiative offers resources such as therapy, job placement, social services, and housing assistance, demonstrating JT’s commitment to giving back to her community and supporting those who have faced similar challenges.
The Evolution of JT’s Artistry
How has JT’s musical style evolved since her work with City Girls? “No Bars” showcases a more introspective side of JT, while still maintaining the fierce attitude that fans have come to expect. The freestyle format allows for a raw, unfiltered expression of her thoughts and emotions, providing listeners with a deeper insight into her personal experiences and artistic growth.
Balancing Solo Work and Group Identity
As JT steps further into her solo career, questions arise about the balance between her individual artistry and her role within City Girls. How does she navigate these dual identities? The inclusion of footage featuring Yung Miami in the “No Bars” video suggests that JT is not abandoning her roots, but rather expanding her artistic horizons while maintaining her connection to the group that launched her career.
Impact on the Hip-Hop Landscape
What impact might JT’s solo work have on the broader hip-hop landscape? As a prominent female rapper, JT’s continued success and artistic evolution contribute to the ongoing narrative of women in hip-hop. Her willingness to address personal struggles and societal issues through her music aligns with a growing trend of authenticity and vulnerability in the genre.
Representation and Empowerment
JT’s journey from incarceration to musical success serves as an inspiring narrative for many. How does her story contribute to discussions about representation and second chances in the music industry? By being open about her past and using her platform to support others, JT is challenging stereotypes and advocating for more inclusive and supportive structures within the industry.
The Role of Visual Storytelling in Music Videos
The “No Bars” video demonstrates the power of visual storytelling in enhancing musical narratives. How does the video’s imagery complement and expand upon the song’s themes? The juxtaposition of glamorous Parisian scenes with more gritty, confined spaces mirrors the contrast between JT’s current success and her past struggles, creating a rich visual tapestry that adds depth to the musical experience.
Symbolism and Artistic Choices
What symbolic elements can be identified in the “No Bars” video? The recurring motif of blue bars could be interpreted as a reference to JT’s past incarceration, while also symbolizing the metaphorical barriers she continues to break through in her career. The video’s director skillfully weaves these visual metaphors throughout the piece, creating a multi-layered viewing experience.
Future Prospects and Artistic Direction
With the release of “No Bars”, what can fans expect from JT in the future? This solo release may signal a new phase in her career, potentially leading to more individual projects alongside her work with City Girls. JT’s growing confidence in her solo abilities and her willingness to explore more personal themes in her music suggest an exciting trajectory for her artistry.
Potential Collaborations and Musical Experimentation
As JT continues to establish herself as a solo artist, what potential collaborations or new musical directions might she explore? Her experiences and growing industry connections could lead to interesting partnerships with other artists, both within and beyond the hip-hop genre. Additionally, the raw, freestyle nature of “No Bars” hints at a possible inclination towards more experimental or less structured musical forms in future releases.
The Intersection of Music and Social Activism
JT’s announcement of the No Bars Reform initiative alongside her musical release highlights the potential for artists to use their platforms for social good. How might this blend of artistry and activism influence JT’s future career moves and public persona? By intertwining her musical output with concrete actions to support her community, JT is positioning herself not just as an entertainer, but as a socially conscious artist with a message that extends beyond her lyrics.
Industry Response and Support
How has the music industry responded to JT’s dual focus on artistry and activism? The reception of “No Bars” and the announcement of her reform initiative could set a precedent for how the industry views and supports artists who actively engage in social causes. This approach may inspire other artists to similarly use their platforms for advocacy, potentially shifting industry norms and expectations.
As JT continues to navigate her solo career while maintaining her ties to City Girls, she exemplifies the multifaceted nature of modern artistry. Her ability to blend personal expression, musical innovation, and social consciousness in projects like “No Bars” and No Bars Reform demonstrates a holistic approach to her role as an artist and public figure. This integrated strategy not only enhances her artistic credibility but also positions her as a role model for aspiring artists who wish to make an impact both through their music and their actions in the wider community.
The release of “No Bars” marks a significant milestone in JT’s career, showcasing her growth as an artist and her willingness to confront personal and societal issues through her music. As she continues to evolve and expand her artistic horizons, JT’s journey serves as a compelling narrative of resilience, creativity, and social responsibility in the contemporary music landscape.

City Girls’ JT has dropped the video for “No Bars,” her first new solo single since 2019’s “JT First Day Out.”
The video is dedicated to a friend of hers who died, Monica Suh. It opens with JT in Paris at night in front of the Eiffel Tower. She addresses her friend Monica at the beginning. “I’m in Paris, just like we talked about,” she says, adding: “So this one’s for you” as she pours one out from a bottle of wine for Monica.
From there, the visual moves to a closeup of JT’s lips, and shows her dropping her verses in a bathroom and in what looks like an old prison with blue bars that match her hair. The footage is interspersed with her hanging with friends and fans, and a montage of photos and video of her and her City Girls partner Yung Miami.
“I’m low-key, bitches fuck with my anxiety/I’m prayed up, and I’m waitin’ on my rivalry,” she spits. “I’m the hype, nah, y’all ain’t gotta hype me/I’m that bitch, give a fuck who don’t like me.”
In an Instagram post, JT shared the inspiration behind the song. “’No Bars’ is a freestyle I made in the studio when I was having one of those days, at the time like most of the time ppl were doubting me & questioning why I wasn’t as visual and vocal as others! Not knowing me personally…,” she wrote. “I’d read the craziest things about myself & would want to scream but instead I went to the studio & popped my shit!

“I know most of y’all have heard it but for those who haven’t I hope this freestyle finds you in a great place & is a start of the respect I deserve in music!” she continued. “No more hiding my love for music, I love music! I love my voice! I love poppin my shit.” She concluded with: “It’s only ME VS. ANXIETY.”
The track follows 2019’s “JT First Day Out,” which marked her release from prison after serving nearly two years on credit card fraud charges. Earlier in the week, she announced No Bars Reform to help other previously incarcerated women rehabilitate into society by assisting with resources such as therapy, job placement, social services, and housing, per the website.

Synopsis[]
The video starts with the words “Spice Girls” and the the location of the shooting of the video “London – St. Pancras grand hotel”. The Girls are then seen running across the road and then jump in unison with Melanie C exclaiming, “We’re gonna do it, we gonna do it!” A car pulls up and exit a family of four prompting them to sing a verse of Wannabe, which at the same time Emma takes the hat of a man and helps him try get money from the family. Hopeless of trying to make any difference, they proceed in running into the hotel.
As they all run in, Emma and Melanie B throw up the papers containing the names of whom are permitted into the hotel, which shock the people hanging around the entrance. Melanie B and Geri then proceed on to singing the first verse together as all the other girls proceed further into the hotel. Then Melanie C sings her lines which is followed by a group dance routine on the staircase. Emma then proceeds on to sing her line, followed by the Mel B’s and Geri’s verse.
The girls enter a dining area where they wreck havoc and and party with the people including Melanie C doing a backflip on a table, rapping from Melanie Brown and Geri. At the end of the video the girls run out of the hotel and run past police officers called upon to take care of the problem at that the girls present. But the girls run past them and hop of the bus, as it drives away they wave a say “bye.” The videos end with all the girls name in red on a black background.

Development[]
In Girl Power! Geri wrote about the concept of the video:
“I remember the chaos and the cold. It wasn’t very controlled – we didn’t want it to be. We wanted the camera to capture the madness of Spice. I had very big shoes on and fell over many times. I watched it again recently and thought it was like a comedy, really. All the other girls gave me the award for being the biggest prat in it! It’s the most spontaneous of our videos.”
The music video for Wannabe was shot in April 1996, directed by Jhoan Camitz and produced by Mod Films. The clip appears to be one continuous take (although there were two barely noticeable edits) of the girls creating mischief at the Midland Grand Hotel in St. Pancras, when in fact it was two continous shots. The video features the group running, singing, dancing and creating mischief at an eccentric bohemian party. Among their antics is Chisholm’s back handspring on one of the tables. Because the video required to be taken in one shoot, the group rehearsed the routine several times through the night, while a guy strapped up to a steadycam ran around after them. Altogether, the music video cost up to £130,000 with minimalistic costs for costumes such as Geri’s outfit costing £20.
The music video for Wannabe was the first for director Jhoan Camitz. Camitz was hired on Fuller’s recommendation because of his commercials for Volkswagen, Diesel, and Nike. His original concept for the video was a one-take shoot of the group arriving at an exotic building in Barcelona, taking over the place and running a riot—the same way they did when they were looking for a manager and a record company. A few days before the shoot on 19 April 1996, Camitz was unable to get the permission to use the building, so the shoot was relocated to the Midland Grand Hotel in St Pancras, London.
Virgin’s executives were horrified with the final result, “the girls were freezing cold, which showed itself in various different ways”, Ashley Newton recalled. The video was later banned in some parts of Asia because of Brown’s erect nipples. Aditionally, the lighting was considered too dark and gloomy, the best takes showed the girls bumping with the furniture and looking behind them. Virgin was also worried that music channels would consider too threatening the fact that old people appeared on the video, the part when they jumped up on the table, and Halliwell’s showgirl outfit. Immediately Virgin opened discussions about a re-shoot of the video or to make a different one for the U.S., but the group refused and the video was sent for trial airing in its original form.
Promotion[]
A promotional video for the song which includes clips from the making of the video was issued by Virgin Records before the official video was released. In the promo the group is seen singing Wannabe at the recording studio; they described the origin of “Spice” and their first impressions of each other, and they also sang the chorus of One Of These Girls, which would eventually was released as the B-side for their third single, 2 Become 1.
Reception[]
Awards and honours[]
The video for Wannabe gets a trial airing on UK cable network The Box music channel, which was the premiere of the music video in the UK. It was selected so frequently that it reached the top of the viewers’ chart within 2 hours of going on air, staying at number-one for 13 weeks, being aired up to 70 times a week at its peak and becoming the most requested track in the channel’s history.
The video won Best Dance Video at the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards, and Best Video at the 1997 Comet Media Awards. It was also nominated for Best British Video at the 1997 BRIT Awards and it was also ranked at number forty-one in the Top 100 Pop Videos of all time by Channel 4.
FHM magazine has voted Wannabe as the sexiest music video:
“No, of course they don’t get their bits out. But here’s Baby running up and down the stairs of a fabulous mansion in her pigtails and miniskirt, Posh before she became pseudo royalty and people still fancied her, Sporty when her looks still relected her nickname and the first of many, many public outings for Mel B and Geri’s astonishing breasts. Their time as band may’ve passed but we feel their contribution to trouser arousal must be noted.”

“This is not a joke”: Rita Dakota recorded the first video after the rumors about the divorce from Sokolovsky
Society
wrote the first video after the news of the divorce with her husband, singer Vlad Sokolovsky. The girl shared her experiences with the audience and talked about plans for the future. The video was posted on Dakota’s new YouTube channel.
“I don’t want to take out all the dirt, all the dirty laundry in public, I don’t want to be involved in this. Everything I said in Instagram posts is true. We are really getting divorced, this is not a joke, ”said Rita.
She confirmed that Vlad cheated on her throughout the relationship.
“The first story came out, followed by the second, the third. The previous ones were confirmed automatically. Vlad said something, our mutual friends told something. As a result, I received a bunch of evidence. Creepy, including video,” said Dakota.
The singer admitted that she had been crying on the floor for several days, surrounded by loved ones. Then she went to Greece for a couple of days, where she realized what had happened.
I had at least the right to tell the truth
“There are several explanations for my Instagram post. I am always honest with the audience. If you shoot videos about love for three years, publish joint photos, and then delete everything silently and post something else, then this is disrespect for people. To all those whom you yourself let into your life, ”Dakota explained her publication about divorce.
The girl acted in this way for several more reasons: so that the feeling of injustice would not leave behind “a bunch of complexes and health problems.”
“If I devoured this as much as I endured, I would blame myself all my life, I would feel betrayed. I would feel anger and resentment. I had the right to at least tell the truth and not whitewash my executioner, my offender, who trampled me, ruined my life, took away everything that I had, ”she explained to subscribers.
I can’t beat if they beat me back
Dakota noted that she did not publish evidence of betrayal and humiliate Vlad. According to Rita, she is not going to perform on TV shows, which she is constantly offered to take part in.
“I know, on the sidelines they say that I am preparing some exclusive releases, I want to hype and sing a song in which I will name all the women with whom Vlad cheated on me. This will not happen. They tried to drag me into the mud, but I didn’t give in, ”said Dakota.
“I want to believe in love, in sincerity, in a person…”
The singer admits that it’s not easy to talk about the positive now, but you can’t give up, you need to live on and be creative. The girl is not going to hide from everyone.
“If one person turned out to be dishonest and dishonorable, it does not mean that everyone is like that. I want to believe in love, in sincerity, in man. I want to believe that one day it will all hurt, it will become experience, strength and wisdom, ”she shared her experiences.
So far, Dakota is in no hurry to guess what her videos will be like in the future. It is possible that they will only talk about creativity or travel.
There will be a channel, that’s for sure
“Maybe I’ll decide not to show anything from my personal life. It is still difficult to say what exactly will come of this, ”said Rita, promising only that the channel would be mandatory.
She noticed that this happens to many women in Russia. The difference, Dakota added, is that she is being watched by a large number of people to whom you can tell about your feelings.
“Recently, we were laughing that if I continue to shoot vlogs, they will be on the topic “Is there life after divorce.” Maybe it is so. Perhaps it will be a kind of rehabilitation diary, ”Rita suggested. At the moment, she is going to do creative work, write music, poetry.
Alcohol didn’t help for sure. Don’t do this
“I want the pain to go into creation. I want to write a book, I’m flying to India in October — I’ve never been there, I want to learn how to drive a motorcycle, I’m going to go on vacation with my child and other mother friends. I go to a psychologist. I want to switch to another regimen, try Ayurveda, give up alcohol, cigarettes, coffee, fried meat. Get up at 5 am, go to bed at 10 pm. I will definitely tell you what will come of it. Now is the time for my inner transformation. Then I’ll tell you what helped,” she said about her plans for the near future.
The girl confessed that she did not hate Sokolovsky. According to her, after some time she will be able to forgive Vlad and take a different look at what happened.
“I am grateful to him for being the father of my child, for the most wonderful experience in my life — the experience of motherhood. Those years when we were together, I was happy, even though it turned out to be untrue. I felt happy almost every day next to Vlad. I had a family and love,” said Rita. Now she lives with her daughter Mia. Sokolovsky sees the child twice a week when the singer is not at home.
Dakota thanked everyone for their support and admitted that letters, private messages, comments – all this helps her a lot to cope with what happened.
Rita announced her divorce from Sokolovsky in mid-August. She told the fans that many members of his family and almost all of his friends knew about Vlad’s betrayals.
