Hey r/lax,

First of all thank I’d like to thank you for being the only subreddit that understands my username is not making reference to a laxative. Hindsight is 20/20. I’m planning on writing a fully comprehensive review and comparison of various pieces of performance mesh. I have been stringing sticks for about ten years now and boy have things changed. It seems like it wasn’t so long ago that I purchased a spool of mesh for about the same price that a single piece of mesh costs now.

Recently I went to buy some materials to tie up a stick and I was absolutely dumbfounded by A) The amount of options that today’s player has when it comes to buying a piece of mesh and B) The lack of unbiased / objective information on the various options. Trying to figure out which piece would suit me best led me down a rabbit hole of scouring dozens of websites both of the manufacturers and third party lacrosse blogs and eventually into watching hours and hours of third party youtube equipment reviews which were informative but seemed somewhat biased considering companies send their products to these reviewers.

There are several things to keep in mind when it comes to how much actually goes into a brand new string job. Anywhere between a $40-$70 initial investment. Time investment to string it yourself or additional money to pay someone to string it. Hours put in on the wall to break the pocket in. That’s a lot to go through just to figure out you’re not crazy about your mesh, especially considering that confidence in how your stick behaves is invaluable on the field.

So, I’ve decided to take it upon myself to buy the materials, string a bunch of sticks up to compare and contrast them and give an honest objective review of each. The goal is not necessarily to find the best piece of mesh but to understand the pros and cons of each which hopefully will allow you, the buyer, to make a decision that best fits your game.

So far I’ve purchased the following pieces for review:

As far as I can tell these are the front runners for most popular. Depending if people actually find my writeup useful I may do a V2 with some of the smaller companies such as jimalax, stringersshack, powell lacrosse, etc.

If there’s anything specific you’d be looking for in the review as far as certain qualities of the mesh, any brands I haven’t mentioned, anything that you feel I need to bring to the table to provide the most comprehensive review, I’d love for you guys to share it with me here.

It is used in the form of an aqueous 0.2-1% solution in the production of food products: confectionery, ice cream, dairy desserts, in canning fruits, as well as in the manufacture of fish and meat products. In addition, it is used in the manufacture of cosmetics, as well as liquid detergents and cleaners. In industry, ponso is most often used in the form of a mixture that combines 4 parts of a similar substance and one part of carmoisine food coloring. The finished solution should be stored for no more than 2 days at a temperature of 15-20 ° C.

Quinoline (E104) is a synthetic (i.e., artificial) food coloring that comes in powder or granular form. The substance is highly soluble in water: at a temperature of 20 ° C, it requires 1 g per 100 ml, while the solution has a lemon yellow tint. Quinoline dye can be used alone or in combination with other additives that allow you to get different colors. In the food laboratory of the Giord company, for clarity, a whole collection of such solutions is presented. In addition, at the request of our customers, we can develop and create any desired color shade of the mixed dye, test it and select the required dosage.

Carmoisine, or azorubine (E122) is a synthetic food monoazo dye, produced in the form of dark red powder or granules with a content of the main substance of at least 85 percent. The substance is used exclusively in the form of a 0.2-1% aqueous solution, since its use in dry form is prohibited. It is used in the manufacture of sausages and confectionery, various sauces, desserts, drinks, canned food and numerous other food products. In addition, carmoisine is used to color medicines and cosmetics, as well as various fabrics. The finished raspberry-colored composition is added during cutting (grinding and mixing) of the original product. At the same time, its dosage should not exceed 0.5 grams per 1 kilogram of raw materials. Storage of the finished solution must be carried out in enameled or glassware at a temperature of 15-20 ° C for no more than two days.

Indigo Carmine (E132) is a synthetic food coloring available as a dark blue powder or granulate. It is a disodium salt of indigo-5,5′-di-sulfonic acid obtained by sulfonation of indigo. The substance is quite easily soluble in water, while the resulting aqueous solution has a blue color. This dye is widely used in the production of food: confectionery, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, ice cream, desserts. The permissible dosage of the substance is from 0.01 to 0.5 grams per 1 kilogram of raw materials. In addition to the food industry, indigo carmine is used in the manufacture of inks and medicines, for dyeing fabrics, and also as a chemical indicator in laboratory research.

Brilliant blue (E133) is a synthetic food coloring that belongs to the group of aniline coloring agents. It is produced in the form of a powder, which includes such elements as: the main substance is cresyl blue brilliant, sodium sulfate, as well as various volatile substances. The solubility of 1 g of dry dye in 100 ml of water is carried out at a temperature of 20°C, while the aqueous solution acquires a blue color. It is used in European countries and in Russia as a staining material for cells and their organelles in histological technique. Storage must be carried out at room temperature for 3 years from the date of production. The largest supplier of blue brilliant dye to the Russian and foreign markets of food additives is the domestic company “Giord”. Brilliant Black (E151) is a synthetic food coloring available in powder form. It is used in the food industry in Russia and Europe. Such an additive is highly soluble in water: at 20 ° C, 100 ml of water is required per 1 g. All batches of this product supplied by Giord have passed microbiological control and have a quality certificate. The dye must be stored at room temperature in a dry, dark room for no more than 3 years from the date of its production.
