This longevity can offset the higher upfront cost, potentially making it a more economical choice in the long run.
Comparing ECD Vortex Mesh to Other Popular Brands
To truly understand the value proposition of Vortex Mesh, it’s essential to compare it to other leading options in the market. Let’s examine how it stacks up against some of the most popular mesh products:
ECD Hero Mesh 2.0
ECD offers two versions of their Hero Mesh 2.0: semi-soft and semi-hard. How do these compare to Vortex? While Hero Mesh 2.0 is known for its excellent feel and control, Vortex may have a slight edge in terms of weather resistance and consistency across different conditions.
STX Memory Mesh
STX Memory Mesh, particularly the semi-hard 10 diamond version, has been a staple for many players. Does it hold up against Vortex? STX Memory Mesh is praised for its ability to retain pocket shape, but some players find that Vortex offers better performance in wet conditions.
StringKing Type 4x
StringKing’s Type 4x is another high-performance option. How does it compare to Vortex? Both meshes offer excellent consistency and weather resistance, but some players report that Vortex provides a slightly better feel for the ball.
The Science Behind Mesh Technology: Understanding Performance Factors
To make an informed decision about which mesh to choose, it’s crucial to understand the technology behind these products. What makes modern performance mesh different from traditional options?
- Fiber composition
- Weave patterns
- Coating technologies
- Diamond shape and size
These factors contribute to the overall performance characteristics of the mesh, influencing aspects such as ball control, pocket consistency, and weather resistance.
Fiber Composition
What materials are used in modern performance mesh? Many high-end options, including Vortex Mesh, utilize advanced synthetic fibers that offer superior strength, weather resistance, and consistency compared to traditional polyester mesh.
Weave Patterns
How does the weave pattern affect mesh performance? The way fibers are interlaced can significantly impact the mesh’s feel, hold, and release characteristics. Vortex Mesh employs a unique weave pattern designed to optimize these factors.
The Investment Perspective: Is Premium Mesh Worth the Cost?
With premium mesh options like Vortex costing significantly more than basic alternatives, players must consider whether the investment is justified. What factors should be weighed when making this decision?
- Long-term durability

For serious players who compete regularly, the benefits of premium mesh often outweigh the additional cost. The improved consistency and durability can translate to better on-field performance and fewer mid-season adjustments or replacements.
Cost-Benefit Analysis
How can players determine if premium mesh is worth the investment for their specific situation? Consider factors such as how often you play, the level of competition, and your personal preferences in terms of stick feel and performance. For some players, the peace of mind and consistent performance provided by products like Vortex Mesh justify the higher price point.
Breaking In Your New Mesh: Tips and Techniques
Regardless of which mesh you choose, proper break-in is crucial for optimal performance. How can players effectively break in their new mesh?
- Wall ball sessions: Gradually increase intensity and duration
- Pocket forming: Use your thumb to create a defined channel
- Weather exposure: Carefully introduce moisture to simulate game conditions

- Level of play (recreational, high school, college, professional)
By carefully evaluating these factors and considering the unique characteristics of each mesh option, players can make an informed decision that enhances their on-field performance.
Tailoring Mesh Choice to Position
How does playing position influence mesh selection? Attackmen might prioritize hold and quick release, while defensemen may prefer a stiffer mesh for more accurate long passes. Midfielders often seek a balance between these characteristics. Vortex Mesh aims to provide versatility that can suit various playing styles and positions.
In conclusion, the world of lacrosse mesh has evolved dramatically, offering players unprecedented options for customizing their stick’s performance. East Coast Dyes Vortex Mesh represents a significant advancement in this technology, providing excellent consistency, weather resistance, and overall performance. While it comes at a premium price point, many players find that the benefits justify the investment.
As you consider your mesh options, remember that personal preference plays a significant role. What works best for one player may not be ideal for another. Take the time to research, test different options if possible, and consider your specific needs and playing style. With the right mesh choice, you can elevate your game and enjoy consistent performance across various playing conditions.
Reddit – Dive into anything
Hey r/lax,
First of all thank I’d like to thank you for being the only subreddit that understands my username is not making reference to a laxative. Hindsight is 20/20. I’m planning on writing a fully comprehensive review and comparison of various pieces of performance mesh. I have been stringing sticks for about ten years now and boy have things changed. It seems like it wasn’t so long ago that I purchased a spool of mesh for about the same price that a single piece of mesh costs now.
Recently I went to buy some materials to tie up a stick and I was absolutely dumbfounded by A) The amount of options that today’s player has when it comes to buying a piece of mesh and B) The lack of unbiased / objective information on the various options. Trying to figure out which piece would suit me best led me down a rabbit hole of scouring dozens of websites both of the manufacturers and third party lacrosse blogs and eventually into watching hours and hours of third party youtube equipment reviews which were informative but seemed somewhat biased considering companies send their products to these reviewers.
There are several things to keep in mind when it comes to how much actually goes into a brand new string job. Anywhere between a $40-$70 initial investment. Time investment to string it yourself or additional money to pay someone to string it. Hours put in on the wall to break the pocket in. That’s a lot to go through just to figure out you’re not crazy about your mesh, especially considering that confidence in how your stick behaves is invaluable on the field.
So, I’ve decided to take it upon myself to buy the materials, string a bunch of sticks up to compare and contrast them and give an honest objective review of each. The goal is not necessarily to find the best piece of mesh but to understand the pros and cons of each which hopefully will allow you, the buyer, to make a decision that best fits your game.
So far I’ve purchased the following pieces for review:
ECD Hero Mesh 2.0 semi-soft
ECD Hero Mesh 2. 0 semi-hard
ECD Vortex
STX Memory Mesh (Standard 10 diamond, semi-hard)
Throne Fiber
GOAT Premium Mesh
Stringking Type 4x
As far as I can tell these are the front runners for most popular. Depending if people actually find my writeup useful I may do a V2 with some of the smaller companies such as jimalax, stringersshack, powell lacrosse, etc.
If there’s anything specific you’d be looking for in the review as far as certain qualities of the mesh, any brands I haven’t mentioned, anything that you feel I need to bring to the table to provide the most comprehensive review, I’d love for you guys to share it with me here.
Thanks for sticking around until the end of this novel. Cheers.

Overview of Synthetic Food Colors – Giord
GIORD supplies a wide range of synthetic colors approved for use in foodstuffs. Below are the most popular ones.
Tartrazine (E102) is a synthetic food coloring. In appearance, it is a powder or granulate of orange-red crystals, highly soluble in water. An aqueous solution of a substance that has a yellow color boils at a temperature of 114 ° C. This food additive is used alone or in mixtures with other dyes in the production of confectionery, various carbonated drinks, ice cream, etc. In the food industry, the use of such a substance should not exceed 0.5 grams per 1 kilogram of the original product. In addition, tartrazine is used to color shampoos, liquid detergents and cleaners, and as a textile dye.
Ponceau (E124) is a food grade synthetic monoazo dye that appears as a red powder or granulate. It has fairly good solubility in water. According to WHO, its permissible daily intake should not exceed 4 milligrams per 1 kilogram of human weight. It is used in the form of an aqueous 0.2-1% solution in the production of food products: confectionery, ice cream, dairy desserts, in canning fruits, as well as in the manufacture of fish and meat products. In addition, it is used in the manufacture of cosmetics, as well as liquid detergents and cleaners. In industry, ponso is most often used in the form of a mixture that combines 4 parts of a similar substance and one part of carmoisine food coloring. The finished solution should be stored for no more than 2 days at a temperature of 15-20 ° C.
Quinoline (E104) is a synthetic (i.e., artificial) food coloring that comes in powder or granular form. The substance is highly soluble in water: at a temperature of 20 ° C, it requires 1 g per 100 ml, while the solution has a lemon yellow tint. It is used as a food additive in the production of confectionery and bakery products, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, dairy, meat and fish products, as well as in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Quinoline dye can be used alone or in combination with other additives that allow you to get different colors. In the food laboratory of the Giord company, for clarity, a whole collection of such solutions is presented. In addition, at the request of our customers, we can develop and create any desired color shade of the mixed dye, test it and select the required dosage.
Carmoisine, or azorubine (E122) is a synthetic food monoazo dye, produced in the form of dark red powder or granules with a content of the main substance of at least 85 percent. The substance is used exclusively in the form of a 0.2-1% aqueous solution, since its use in dry form is prohibited. It is used in the manufacture of sausages and confectionery, various sauces, desserts, drinks, canned food and numerous other food products. In addition, carmoisine is used to color medicines and cosmetics, as well as various fabrics. The finished raspberry-colored composition is added during cutting (grinding and mixing) of the original product. At the same time, its dosage should not exceed 0.5 grams per 1 kilogram of raw materials. Storage of the finished solution must be carried out in enameled or glassware at a temperature of 15-20 ° C for no more than two days.
Indigo Carmine (E132) is a synthetic food coloring available as a dark blue powder or granulate. It is a disodium salt of indigo-5,5′-di-sulfonic acid obtained by sulfonation of indigo. The substance is quite easily soluble in water, while the resulting aqueous solution has a blue color. This dye is widely used in the production of food: confectionery, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, ice cream, desserts. The permissible dosage of the substance is from 0.01 to 0.5 grams per 1 kilogram of raw materials. In addition to the food industry, indigo carmine is used in the manufacture of inks and medicines, for dyeing fabrics, and also as a chemical indicator in laboratory research.
Brilliant blue (E133) is a synthetic food coloring that belongs to the group of aniline coloring agents. It is produced in the form of a powder, which includes such elements as: the main substance is cresyl blue brilliant, sodium sulfate, as well as various volatile substances. The solubility of 1 g of dry dye in 100 ml of water is carried out at a temperature of 20°C, while the aqueous solution acquires a blue color. It is used in European countries and in Russia as a staining material for cells and their organelles in histological technique. Storage must be carried out at room temperature for 3 years from the date of production. The largest supplier of blue brilliant dye to the Russian and foreign markets of food additives is the domestic company “Giord”. We offer our customers products that have passed microbiological examination and have the appropriate quality certificates.
Brilliant Black (E151) is a synthetic food coloring available in powder form. The composition of such a mixture includes the following substances: shiny black as the main substance (at least 80 percent), sodium sulfate (about 15 percent) and volatile substances (about 5 percent). It is used in the food industry in Russia and Europe. Such an additive is highly soluble in water: at 20 ° C, 100 ml of water is required per 1 g. All batches of this product supplied by Giord have passed microbiological control and have a quality certificate. The dye must be stored at room temperature in a dry, dark room for no more than 3 years from the date of its production.
