The Nike Dunk Sneakerheads Guide
The Nike Dunk has waxed and waned in popularity over the past decades, but the dunks have unequivocally retained legendary sneaker status.
The first pair of Nike Dunk was released in 1985. The model combined the best of the Air Jordan I and Nike Terminator and planned to compete with the
Nike Legend, the most comfortable basketball shoe at the time. The Nike Dunk, like the little brothers of the Air Force 1, looked stylish and was comfortable.
The launch of the sneakers was accompanied by an advertising campaign with the slogan “Be True To Your School”. The first Nike Dunk release consisted of 12 colorways.
Each pair symbolized the sports team of one of the American colleges.
Bold colors became the main feature of the model – now fans dressed in the colors of their favorite team from head to toe.
It’s not just basketball players and fans who love Nike Dunk pairs.
Although skateboarders almost immediately fell in love with the model for its good cushioning and striking look, Nike only introduced a customized pair of the Nike SB Dunk in 2002.
To make the new version even more comfortable, the designers improved the sole, added Nike Zoom cushioning system, made the tongue bigger and softer.
The
Nike SB Dunk, comfortable for skiing and everyday wear, caught the attention of sneakerheads. In the 2000s, the pair officially moved from the category of sports shoes to the category of fashionable sneakers.
On the basis of SB Dunk, Nike released collaborations with streetwear legends – Supreme, Stussy, Futura, Unkle – and even with brands such as eBay and Heineken.
In the 1990s, Jordan was the pass to sneakerhead clubs, and at the start of the new century, millennials were discovering sneaker culture with SB Dunk.
Tri-coloured like Neapolitan ice cream, denim, tiffany, and elephant print, Nike kept releasing more and more pairs of dunks.

For me, Nike Dunk is a legendary model with a rich history and dozens of worthy collaborations.
What to wear with:
I’m wearing the Nike SB Strange Love Dunk Low, my favorite release of 2020. Red-pink colors and velvet inserts look attractive.
I wear this model with Nike socks, Nike ACG cargo pants or cycling shorts.
How to choose the size:
The Nike Dunk fits true to size by inches, but is wider in the front than the Air Jordan 1.
The difference is minimal, so I recommend getting your regular Nike size. Dunks were made for basketball players0003

How to care:
If the dirt is light, leather Dunk can be walked over with a damp cloth.
I think sneakers should be worn, not blown off, so I’m not afraid to get my pair dirty.

I noticed Nike Dunk because of the bright colors of the first release of “Be True To Your School”.
The silhouette also deserves attention. These shoes, like the Air Jordan 1, have a thin sole that keeps the pair from looking too bulky.
What to wear with:
I’m wearing Dunk High in my favorite blue and white colorway. I usually wear these sneakers with loose-fitting corduroy or cargo pants.
Dunk’s slim silhouette makes them look especially good with wide leg pants. Shorts and sweatpants are fine too.
How to choose size:
Nike Dunk is true to size, so take your normal size.
The
Air Force 1 and all Jordans except the Air Jordan 1 are slightly wider so they can run larger.
If you wear one of these models, then you should take a pair of Dunk in a size 0.5 more.
For example, if your Air Force 1 is UK 8, then when buying Dunk, go for UK 8.5.
Don’t expect the same comfort from the retro silhouette as from the new Nike models, I advise you to choose another pair for walking around the city.
How to care:
I keep a close eye on the cleanliness of all sneakers, except for “dunks”, this model has scuffs and signs of wear.
Caring for them is easy: just wipe them down with sneaker wipes or a soft brush after every walk.

I love these sneakers for durability and reliability: I can skate all day in them on the board, I can walk like today.

How to choose size:
Dunk and Nike seem to run small compared to other athletic brands.
Maybe it’s only in small sizes because I wear UK 3 and I buy Nike in UK 3.5.
Nike Dunk is durable and comfortable. The SB Series pairs have more padding on the inside to fit better on the foot while riding.
How to care:
I don’t do anything special to keep these shoes clean, the Nike Dunk is fairly easy to care for.
I have an unusual pair from another brand that is almost impossible to clean completely due to construction:
One layer of material builds up on top of another, and dirt gets stuck in hard-to-reach places. With “dunks” there is no such problem.
