At a price point of around $140, the Warrior Burn Diamond represents a significant investment for many players. However, its superior performance and durability make it a worthwhile choice for serious lacrosse athletes.
What factors should players consider when deciding on this purchase?
- Level of play (recreational vs. competitive)
- Frequency of games and practices

The MLL Pros and Their Goalie Stick Setups
With the large variety of goalie heads, goalie shafts, and goalie mesh on the market today, the possibilities for a goalie stick set-up are near endless.
When you factor in the varying tape jobs and shafts lengths, the amount of possible stick setups grows even further.
But what do the pros use?
Each pro team is surely sponsored by one of the major lacrosse equipment companies – Brine, STX, Warrior, and thus the goalies get their free pick of the gear offered by that manufacturer.
But even within manufacturers there are several great pieces of equipment and its not always the case that every goalie picks the same. A lacrosse goalie is as unique as his/her gear.
Let’s have a look at a bunch of different current and ex-MLL goalies and their goalie stick setup.
Edit: Updated 1/25/17. Updated Adam Ghitelman’s stick setup with his current. Kept the old setup below for those interested.
A funny note here is that Drew Adams actually helped Maverik lacrosse create the Maverik Base / Maverik Base 2 goalie head. I guess he’s not a fan of his own work since he uses the Warrior Nemesis 2 as his gamer.
Edit: 1/29/2017 Updated Tyler Fiorito’s stick to his latest setup. He switched to the Brine Eraser 2 strung up with 12D Hero Mesh. I kept old setup down below.
- Head: Brine Eraser 2
- Shaft: Brine Clutch Attack Shaft
- Mesh: 12D Hero Mesh
- Shaft Length: Just slightly longer than attack shaft
- Head: Brine Eraser
- Shaft: Brine Clutch Attack Shaft
- Mesh: 20 Diamond Goalie Mesh
- Shaft Length: Just slightly longer than attack shaft
Edit: 5/6/2017 Updated JRod’s stick setup. Kept his old one in place. He’s on the Blaze now too.
- Head: Warrior Nemesis 2
- Shaft: Warrior Burn Pro
- Mesh: 12 Diamond Goalie Mesh
- Shaft Length: Attack shaft length
Edit: Jordan Burke retired from the MLL on January 29th, 2016.
- Head: Warrior Nemesis 2
- Shaft: Warrior Burn Pro Goalie Shaft
- Mesh: 12 Diamond Goalie Mesh
- Shaft Length: Just slightly longer than attack shaft
Edit: Jesse Schwartzman retired from the MLL late 2015.
In the photos I have of Charlie Cipriano he’s using the setup I list above however Charlie’s cousin emailed me personally to let me know this is actually the current setup he uses:
As you can see with just 13 different MLL goalies, we have 13 unique stick combinations.
As it turns out most pros prefer a shorter shaft length which keeps the stick nice and light for making saves.
Just over half, 7 out of 13, of these goalies use the Warrior Nemesis 2 as their head of choice. Due to the high velocity shots in the MLL these goalies prefer the stiffness of that head vs. the flexibility of other models. When a ball strikes the top of the Warrior Nemesis 2 the ball won’t bend the head and still go into the goal.
The number of ways you can setup your stick are endless so what’s important is that you find what works for you.
And also what’s in your price range, since you’re paying for these items unlike the pro’s who are sponsored by the lacrosse equipment companies.
Until next time! Coach Damon
What stick setup do you use? Let me know in the comments.

Attaching The Drilax Flexible Shaft To A Rotary Tool • Diamond Hole Saws, Drill Bits, And Tools
1- First, if your rotary tool has a threaded collar on the motor end, you will need to remove it by turning CCW (counter-clockwise). You will need the collar when you attach a tool directly to the rotary tool. You will not need it with the flex shaft.
2- Hold the flexible shaft by the silver color fitting end (you will be able to see the inner shaft core). And pull the inner core about 2 inches. If you need a pair of pliers to hold it, that’s normal.
It is a very good idea to grease (lube) the inner core.
We recommend using white lithium grease to lubricate the inner core of the Dremel Extension.
MAKE SURE THE ROTARY TOOL IS UNPLUGGED FOR THE NEXT STEPS
3-Now, the idea is you are attaching the core of the flex shaft into the rotary tool collet just like you would attach any kind of tool with a 1/8″ shaft. The flex shaft is there to transfer the rotation, that’s it. It is just like an extension. Push the core of the flex shaft into the rotary tool collet and tighten the collet. You can use the collet lock button to prevent it from turning while you are tightening the nut.
4- You can now screw the silver color fitting end of the flex shaft onto the rotary tool housing. This is where you removed the collar. We are now done attaching the flex shaft to the rotary tool. From now on, the next steps are about attaching the bit or burr to the flex shaft.
5- The other end (BLACK COLOR) of the flex shaft is where you will insert the desired attachment tool such as a diamond disc or a burr. You will be using the silver chrome L shaped piece for this stage. There is a hole on the side of the black side of the flex shaft. And there is another hole under the black side. When you align these two holes by turning the silver tip on the black end, insert the L shaped metal. This step may sound confusing but it’s simple. The inner metal part on the black end of the shaft will want to turn as you try to attach the tool. The L shaped metal is there to help you hold it while you try to twist the tip.
6- You can now attach the bit. And tighten the nut at the tip of the black end of the flex shaft.
The tool attached to flex shaft

How to work with a grinder with a diamond tool
How to work with a grinder with a diamond tool
•
Work in safety glasses with side protection (mask with full protection), respirator, headphones and gloves. Always use safety shoes (use an apron if necessary).
•
Before installing a diamond tool, check the seating surface and the flanges of your equipment for nicks, dents or other damage. If necessary, clean them of dirt or dust.
•
Carry out a test run without load – at least 30 seconds. Be sure to make sure that there are no vibrations, radial and end beats, extraneous noise during idling. If runout is detected, turn the flanges together with the diamond tool 180 ° around their axis (the shaft does not need to be turned) and repeat the rotation at idle speed. If the above deviations recur, it is necessary to diagnose your equipment or diamond tools.
•
Installing a gasket between the diamond wheel and the hold-down flange can facilitate subsequent unscrewing of the hold-down flange. Thin and even paper, foil, etc., with a thickness of not more than 0.1-0.15 mm, can be used as a spacer.
•
If for work, you use a power strip – unwind it completely. The cross-section of the cable on the extension cord must be at least 2×2.5 mm, and the circuit breaker must be at least 15A.
•
The arrow on the side surface of the diamond tool body (indicated direction of rotation) must always match the direction of rotation of the equipment shaft.
•
Excessive loading during operation is prohibited, this can lead to a decrease in the cutting ability of the blade!
•
Avoid deep cuts. To increase the resource and stable cutting properties of the diamond layer of the cutting wheel, it is recommended to reach the maximum depth of cut in several passes.
•
The armature should be passed by swinging the angle grinder back and forth (in the direction of cutting), while changing the depth of cut (pendulum cutting method).
•
The lower the feed force, the greater the control over the cutting accuracy.
•
Make sure that the side part of the body does not rub against the processed material.
•
In the process of work, alternate cutting methods – straight, pendulum, shuttle.
•
For stable operation of the diamond wheel, try not to remove it from the angle grinder until it is completely worn out. In most cases, this information applies if you are cutting hard materials such as porcelain stoneware or granite. After each reinstallation, the diamond blade must be run in (lapped in) * to minimize runout and chipping at the cutting edge of the workpiece.
•
If the cutting ability of a diamond tool decreases, it must be sharpened. Typical signs of a decrease in cutting ability are: heating of the cutting disc, a decrease in cutting speed, in some cases – deformation of the body and increased chipping of the material. To do this, it is necessary to cut (5-6 cuts) without coolant, the highly abrasive material into thin strips. Highly abrasive materials: masonry, cement-sand plaster, fresh concrete, abrasive grinding or grinding wheels.
