This will be our 34th successful year of football instruction. If you are an experienced football player or just starting football, our football programs are an experience you will never forget!
Athletes learn from outstanding veteran college and high school coaches selected for their ability to coach and teach the game of football. At our programs, participants receive up to 6 hours of instruction each day. Players will learn individual and team techniques on both offense and defense from the best instructors available. The veteran coaching staff will ensure each player is placed in the appropriate group to allow coaches to progressively teach basic and advanced techniques to best benefit each group from Youth to High School. Sports International will help you develop your skills and take your game to the next level. Learn even more about the features and benefits of our programs.
For high school players, this is also an excellent opportunity to receive the best instruction available and to be seen by an outstanding lineup of college coaches. High school players aged 15-18 are eligible for the exclusive Gridiron Elite. A detailed information packet on each member of the Gridiron Elite will be sent to over 2,500 college football coaches to help each player receive recognition at the college level. Also, through our partnership with NCSA, they will send each award winner’s information to an additional 5,000 coaches across the country.
JOIN WHITNEY MERCILUS AND ALFRED BLUE
Mercilus attended Garfield High School in Akron, Ohio, where he played defensive end and tight end for the Garfield Rams, earning Northeast Ohio Inland All-Star team, Cleveland Plain-Dealer Defensive All-Star team and All-District honors.
Mercilus went on to play at the University of Illinois from 2009-2011, where he was recognized as a unanimous All-American during his junior season, leading the country in quarterback sacks (16) and forced fumbles (9). Mercilus was named a first-team All-Big Ten selection by both the coaches and media, and also won the 2011 Ted Hendricks Award, 2011 Bill Willis Award, and 2011 CFPA Defensive Performer of the Year.
With five sacks in 2014, Mercilus moved into fifth place on the franchise’s all-time sacks list in just three seasons, with 18 career sacks.
In 2015, Mercilus finished tied for sixth in the NFL sacks, also recording 52 total tackles, a forced fumble and two passes defended.
“I really can’t say enough about Whitney Mercilus,” head coach Bill O’Brien said after a game. “I mean, he practices every snap in practice. He takes some scout team reps because we were a little bit thin at linebacker. Then, he goes in the game and he’s played better and better every game. He’s a great guy, a really good teammate, a hardworking guy. He’s just played really well for us this year and I think that was what I saw out there from the sideline.”
At Hahnville High School in Louisiana, Blue rushed for 1,695 yards and 25 touchdowns as a senior in 2009, was a member of the SuperPrep Southwest Team, earned Class 5A first-team all-state honors, and was named the District 6-5A 2009 Offensive MVP.
In his college career at LSU, Blue started seven games with the Tigers, and rushed for 1,253 yards and 11 touchdowns, with three 100-yard rushing games.
In his first regular season game as a rookie with the Texans, Blue blocked a punt against the Washington Redskins and returned it for a touchdown. Later that season, Blue ran for 156 yards on a franchise record 36 attempts against the Cleveland Browns.
On December 7, 2014, Blue scored his first career rushing touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars. At that moment, Blue became the first player in franchise history with a rushing, receiving and return touchdown in the same season. Blue finished the 2014 season with 528 yards, which was the fourth-highest total for a rookie rusher in franchise history.
Blue rushed for 698 yards on 183 carries and had four total touchdowns during the 2015 season. On January 9, 2016, making his first career NFL postseason start against Kansas City, Blue rushed for 99 yards on 17 carries, a 5. 8 yard average.

For players and coaches alike, college football recruiting is an enormous challenge.
Prospects want to get noticed. But in today’s technologically savvy world, many thousands of players have highlight films and recruiting profiles. How can they separate themselves?
Coaches want to find the best talent possible, but they need to parse through those thousands of options. Where, and how, do they prioritize their limited time to evaluate players?
There is no perfect formula or answer. Still, a group of regional camps and combines have emerged as the most popular ways to get noticed. Even if a head coach isn’t on-site, a nationwide network of contacts can be the link for a prospect and a college.

Previously sponsored by Nike, The Opening is now labeled the Dick’s Sporting Goods Combine tour. Student Sports organizes the prominent regional camps and finals.
At the regional events, prospects can go through testing in the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, vertical jump and kneeling power ball toss. On-field work features position-specific and one-on-one drills, as well as competitions for each position.
The series culminates in The Opening Finals, a four-day event that gathers top performers from several competitions. One of the most notable, which we’ll cover shortly, is the Elite 11. This showcase will now be called the Dick’s Sporting Goods Finals.

Every team needs a quarterback. Elite 11 tries to identify the best.
Although each regional is an invite-only event, prospects can submit their information for consideration. The initial 2020 schedule had stops planned from Atlanta to Indianapolis to Los Angeles.
Top performers advance to the Elite 11 Finals, and that group competes in a three-day camp with a prestigious reward. Evaluators pick the 11 best quarterbacks to participate at The Opening Finals.

Thousands of high school football players work for an invitation to the well-known Under Armour All-America Game. The journey to Orlando may start at a regional camp.
Beyond official measurements, testing includes the 40-yard dash, vertical jump and pro agility. Players then compete in one-on-one situations and other on-field drills, and top-performing underclassmen are invited to the Future 50 camp.
In recent years, then-future NFL draft picks Ed Oliver, Rashan Gary and Dexter Lawrence all earned Future 50 invitations.

Along with ESPN and 247Sports, Rivals has established itself as a leading brand in the recruiting world. The company also conducts a group of scouting events to assist with evaluations.
First up is the Combine Series, which involves the 40-yard dash, shuttle run, three-cone drill, vertical jump and broad jump. Top performers continue to the Camp Series, and that group is narrowed to 100 players for the invite-only Five-Star Challenge.
In 2019, Rivals held the Five-Star Challenge at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons.

While it’s not as familiar a name, VTO Sports holds regional camps that culminate in an exclusive event.
The camps feature a variety of workouts, including the 40-yard dash, bench press and agility drills. Along the way, top performers may be selected for the Elite 100 Showcase camps and progress to the invitation-only All-American Challenge.
Consistent top performances can propel a relatively unknown prospect to a valuable place on the local radar.

Formerly known as the U.S. Army Combine, the National Combine happens annually in conjunction with the popular All-American Bowl.
More than 600 underclassmen will gather in San Antonio for the event. The schedule includes a 40-yard dash, short shuttle, vertical jump and one-on-one competition, and top performers will be closely monitored as potential invites to a future All-American Bowl.
Notable alumni of the combine include Clemson star Trevor Lawrence, Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, longtime NFL receiver Ted Ginn Jr. and former Texas star Colt McCoy.

Throughout the spring and summer, the 7-on-7 circuit provides a competitive environment that attracts plenty of top prospects.
Pylon is a recognizable brand that has a national championship held in Las Vegas annually. Prior to the showcase, there are regional events all over the country. Pylon says more than 3,200 Division I athletes have participated in the championship series.
Although NCAA rules prohibit college coaches from scouting at these events, recruiting connections are still made.

While a coaching staff has a network of talent-discovery tools, the program itself can conduct its own camps for evaluation purposes.
These may be single- or multi-day events on campus. And in many cases, top performers will be invited back to junior days—an unofficial visit that is regularly an invite-only camp.
Although it’s never been easier to scout players nationwide, coaches still appreciate when talent flocks to them. Local camps may provide the break an underrated, quality prospect needs.

About | The Quarterback Ranch
The Quarterback Ranch, based in the heart of Quarterback Country in Southlake Texas, was created in 2013 with a simple and clear mission: Bring together the best instructors, strategies, and methods in the country to provide the highest quality football skill position training, with a special focus on quarterbacks at all experience levels. And while our heart – and our headquarters – is in Texas, The Quarterback Ranch provides training and instruction in various locations throughout the country and we are looking into new markets on a regular basis.
OUR TEAM APPROACH
What makes the Quarterback Ranch unique is our multi-dimensional approach. As an example, we believe being an elite quarterback goes well beyond the ability to throw the football. We have brought together many of the top experts in the sports world to help our athletes reach their highest potential by focusing on the body and mind in addition to the obvious skills specific to the position. Our approach to athlete development combines position-specific skills development and agility, speed and conditioning with, nutrition, the latest in sports medicine (including leading edge concussion detection and treatment), nutrition, and the mental game. We utilize some of the latest in technology, including 3D video analysis and virtual reality training.
OUR TRAINING IS NOT PART-TIME
Many quarterback instructors are part-time. There is nothing part-time about us. The Quarterback Ranch is a full-time, year-round program that combines the most knowledgeable and experienced instructors with a high-touch, personalized approach to development of athletes from middle school to professional football. Whether through our one-on-one or group instructions or as part of one of our camps held throughout the year in various locations, our training is professional, consistent, individualized, and presented with both the student and parents in mind.
WE ARE NOT JUST ABOUT QUARTERBACKS
While we cut our teeth on helping quarterbacks reach the elite level, our specialty is training. In addition to quarterbacks, we provide individualized training and camps for receivers and defensive backs. While many quarterback camps make “room” for quarterbacks to bring their own receivers, we provide primary instruction for these other positions with some of the best coaches and instructors who have played and coached their respective positions at the highest levels of collegiate and professional football.
COMPETITION BREEDS CHAMPIONS
Many of our athletes come out of environments where they are the best or near the top of their class. Many are the top prospects and athletes at their positions in their age and area, region … even the country. At The Quarterback Ranch, we group athletes by age, skill level, and abilities so they are pushed – both mentally and physically – by those they are training with who have comparable skills. Our instructors have a proven track record of helping their trainees reach the highest levels of competition, from high school to college to the NFL. When your son trains at The Quarterback Ranch, he is surrounded by peers that will truly allow him to be measured against the best of the best.
INFORMED PARENTS ARE HAPPY PARENTS
We believe involving the parents in the training process is a significant key to the ultimate success of our training and the athletes we train. We work with parents to establish and agree to clear and realistic expectations and then provide constant feedback regarding the progress and realization of those expectations. In fact, we believe it is important for parents to understand what we are training — and why — so our programs include specific training and information sessions for parents as well.
NOT ALL ATHLETES ARE ELITE
As much as we would like to see all of our athletes play major college football or advance to the glamour of the NFL, we know it is simply not realistic. In fact, it is hard to know how good a middle school or even a high school athlete is going to turn out to be. Our focus is to help every athlete achieve the next level of success … whatever it is for them. For some, that may be gaining enough confidence to play on a competitive team. For others, it could mean seeking the starting position on their middle or high school team. For others it can mean earning a college scholarship or preparing for the NFL combine. Our approach is to prepare our athletes for the next level, whatever that next level might be.
OUR CORE VALUES DEFINE US
As a client of The Quarterback Ranch, you will often hear us talk about “our team. ” We are so committed to the concept that everyone involved in The Quarterback Ranch uses the same training concepts, terminology, and drills so that every team member involved in an athlete’s training are all working from the same playbook. This “team” concept also means we all operate from a set of business and personal principles, including:
- We are all passionate about training our athletes but we are a business first and without the success of the business, we will not have an effective platform from which to demonstrate that passion.
- Every athlete is an individual with individual abilities, talent, expectations, and possibilities. In all we do, we acknowledge this individuality and train one athlete at a time.
- We train our athletes to succeed, not just on the field but off the field as well.
- Our job is not to replace school coaches but to compliment them and bring additional value. We work with an athlete’s coach whenever possible to maximize the training impact.
- Success is not about the score. It is about performing at or beyond our individual capabilities.
Instructors and coaches don’t win championships. Players do. The primary goal of The Quarterback Ranch is to help put our athletes in a position where they have the best opportunity to win … whatever the competition. - Physical skills are best utilized when the mind is prepared and trained to leverage those skills.
- Champions are not born. Champions are developed … one day at a time.
OUR APPROACH IS THE DIFFERENCE
Our unique approach – bringing the best instructors and professionals available from multiple disciplines – means our athletes learn much more than how to spin a football or catch a pass. Our athletes improve at all facets of the game, from physical to mental, from health and nutrition to understanding the complexities and fine points of offense and defense, both on the field and off. At The Quarterback Ranch, we don’t training football players. We breed Champions!
