Camp Victor — Charlotte Latin Summer Day Camps

Join Camp Victor for the traditional day camp experience. Your camper will have a memorable summer making art, learning through science, and playing group games with new friends during special activity time. Each week, Camp Victor will offer weekly enrichment themes that will direct the activities of the day. Campers will be divided into groups based on age/grade. Each small group of campers will be paired with one of our Camp Victor counselors who will assist them throughout their morning and afternoon rotations. These counselors may vary from morning to afternoon. The morning half of each week will include enrichment activities such as arts and crafts, science experiments, group cooking, and games. The afternoon half of each week will be focused on sports and games, team challenges, or technology.

Campers will also participate in water day on Thursdays. This is the highlight of our week when the campers take on the counselors during a fun-filled water slide competition! Watch out, it gets super splashy! During each themed week the campers will have an opportunity to fully immerse in the fun!

Our summer staff is amazing! Many of our instructors are Charlotte Latin Faculty and Staff who teach camps based on professional experience and personal hobbies. Our camp teachers have a passion for teaching and creating a fun learning environment. We also have instructors from several vendors, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, and Union County Public Schools who join our team each season.

Camp Counselors

Our summer counselors are the best! They are a team of enthusiastic college and high school students, most of whom were previously campers. Counselors assist with many different aspects of the day including camp instruction, carpool and bus duty, special Camp Victor activities and walking campers safely across campus. Our counselors make our camps so much fun and really do make the camp experience memorable for our campers. There isn’t a moment in the day where they are aren’t busy playing games, directing traffic, keeping our campus clean, or teaching a science experiment. They truly do it all! Our talented group of counselors has interests ranging from technology and the arts to sports and competitive Lego building. And let’s not forget about their competitive water sliding skills!

Camp Counselors–In–Training (CIT)

Will not be offered Summer 2021

Counselors-In Training (CIT) are service driven volunteers who are responsible for leading small group activities within our camp programs. This leadership program will start with more than 30 hours of leadership workshops, CPR training, Epi-Pen training, and a commitment to our camp families. Each CIT will be assigned a rotational area of specialty. Each CIT will register for their leadership week prior to the start of camp (June 1-5) and commit to two additional weeks of camp of their choosing completing three weeks during the summer. Hours for CITs will vary in accordance with our morning (7:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.) and afternoon (12 noon-5:30 p.m.) counselor shifts. During their time at camp, CITs will lead, participate in and organize games, skits, arts and crafts, and before/after care activities to support their fellow staffers. CIT applicants must be a rising sophomore in high school and will be given an evaluation upon the completion of the summer term. CITs are able to apply for a counselor position the following summer season. Please note, completion of the CIT program does not guarantee future employment with CLS Summer Day Camps.

Nike Tennis Camp at Charlotte Latin School

Due to local and state regulations, we anticipate having to reduce our enrollment numbers significantly this year. You can expect a high demand on these first-come-first-serve camper spots, so please be sure to register early.

We offer Full Day (9:00am-3:00pm) and Half Day (9:00am-11:45am) camps for boys and girls, ages 7-18, with All Skills and 10&Under Tennis programs offered all weeks.

CAMP PROGRAMS

All sessions are open to players of all abilities. Upon arrival, all participants are evaluated by the staff so that their own instructional needs can be addressed throughout the week.

All Skills Program: The All Skills program is designed for tennis players of any skill level and background. Campers will learn fundamentals and improve upon their game.
10 and Under Tennis: The “10 and Under Tennis” program features the USTA’s successful teaching format. This is an exciting way kids 10 and under are learning to play tennis as well as compete. The courts are smaller and balls are low-compression so they are easier to hit, allowing kids to get to the ball and develop optimal swing patterns. It all makes it easy and fun for them to hit, play and score from the start while developing skills that will last a lifetime. Please note: This program is optional and younger campers may opt to play regular tennis on the full courts.

CAMP SCHEDULE

Check-In: Every morning between 8:30am-9:00am at Latin hawk in front of Belk Gym for all campers. Use the Providence Road entrance into Charlotte Latin School and proceed to Belk Gym. There will be Nike Camp staff at the “Latin Hawk” in front of Belk Gym to meet you and take the campers to the tennis courts. The courts are located behind Belk Gym.
Check-out: All campers 12:00pm on Friday
Half Day Camp Program: Monday-Friday 9:00am-12:00pm
Full Day Program: Monday-Thursday 9:00am-3:00pm, Friday 9:00am-12:00pm

During the dinosaur camp, kids can create their own T-Rex head and go on a simulated fossil dig — all while learning to use technology that adult engineers use every day.
And just like traditional day camps, kids will get to bring home their projects when they’re done. But instead of a macaroni necklace, it might be a functioning light saber.

2. You don’t have to be a Latin student to come to camp.

3. It may ignite a child’s interest in STEM.
Dubick said your child may be a good candidate for a STEM camp if he or she likes taking things apart, playing with Play-Dough, putting together puzzles or playing invention-based games. “If they get excited about this stuff, it could lead to a great career,” Dubick said.
These camps aren’t just for boys. Every camp is open to boys and girls — which Dubick said is important since women are desperately needed in the STEM world. If your daughter isn’t all about Star Wars, but she enjoys creating things, working with friends or even learning about history, there’s definitely a topic or learning track for her.

4. They’ll learn skills that could help them in their job one day.
In addition to working with computers, vinyl cutters and other equipment your child may use in their future careers, Latin’s STEM camps emphasize communication, teamwork and innovation — all soft skills that will benefit your child in school and in the workforce.
Dubick said the arts are an important component of STEM camps as well. Campers often choose colors, designs and other visual elements of their project designs, encouraging creativity and both left- and right-brain thinking.

5. There’s a STEM camp for virtually every interest you child could have.

At the medieval-themed camp, kids can learn to create ancient weaponry like the catapult with new age technology.
