How did Beth Powers create the captivating story “Brimstone and Brine”. What inspired the unique narrative structure of this tale. How does the Carving Bard series interconnect and evolve across multiple stories.
The Genesis of “Brimstone and Brine”: A Tale Within a Tale
Beth Powers’ “Brimstone and Brine” is a masterful example of storytelling that weaves together multiple narrative layers. The story’s inception is as intriguing as the tale itself, originating from two distinct sources: the plot and the narrator. This unique approach to crafting fiction sets “Brimstone and Brine” apart from conventional storytelling methods.
An Unconventional Writing Process
Unlike her typical writing process, which follows a linear path from start to finish, Powers found herself taking a different approach with “Brimstone and Brine”. The interior story came to her in a flash of inspiration, compelling her to draft it in reverse order. Why did she choose this unusual method? Powers explains that she feared losing the impact of the ending if she didn’t capture it immediately.
Inspiration Born from Frustration
The spark for the story’s plot came from an unexpected source: Powers’ frustration with a common trope in television and literature. She found herself repeatedly disappointed by love triangle scenarios where the non-protagonist love interest is often written out of the story through a heroic sacrifice. This dissatisfaction became the catalyst for creating a fresh take on this familiar narrative device.
Crafting a Unique Narrative Structure
After completing the interior story, Powers realized that its conversational tone required a different approach. This realization led her to explore the concept of a frame story, a narrative technique she had been considering for some time.
Enter the Carving Bard
The perfect narrator for this tale emerged from a previously unpublished story featuring the Carving Bard. This character, a storyteller who travels the countryside carving walking sticks for her listeners, provided the ideal voice to bring “Brimstone and Brine” to life. The Bard’s own backstory, rooted in Powers’ frustration with prophecy stories and a quirky Dungeons & Dragons rule, adds another layer of depth to the narrative.
The Evolution of the Carving Bard Series
The success of “Brimstone and Brine” led Powers to create additional stories featuring the Carving Bard. Each subsequent tale further developed the relationship between the frame narrative and the interior story.
A Chronology of Tales
For readers interested in exploring the Carving Bard series, Powers recommends the following reading order:

The Art of Blending Frame and Interior Tales
As the Carving Bard series progressed, Powers expertly wove the frame narrative and interior tales closer together. This culminated in “A Prophecy and the People”, where the Bard transitions from storyteller to active participant in the unfolding adventure.
Expanding the Carving Bard Universe
Beyond the core trilogy, Powers has written two additional stories tangentially connected to the Bard. These tales, while standing alone, contribute to the rich tapestry of the Carving Bard’s world.
The Future of the Carving Bard
Intriguingly, the first story Powers wrote featuring the Bard – chronologically the last in the series – awaits transformation into a novel. This tantalizing glimpse into the future of the series leaves readers eager for more adventures in the Carving Bard’s world.
A Call to Readers
Powers invites readers to express their interest in seeing where these stories are headed, hinting at the possibility of prioritizing the novel’s development based on fan enthusiasm.

On Writing “Brimstone and Brine” • by Beth Powers
[Editor’s Note: Since Stupefying Stories 23 was released quite a few people have written to tell me how much they enjoyed Beth Powers’ story, “Brimstone and Brine,” and to ask questions about how she wrote it and whether she had any more stories like it. Well, yes, she does, and in response to these questions Beth was kind enough to write a bit more about her Carving Bard series and how she came to write this particular story. Enjoy! ~brb]
¤ ¤ ¤
Much like the story itself, which consists of a frame and the tale it contains, “Brimstone and Brine” has two origins: the plot and the narrator.
The actual writing of the story began with the plot of the interior tale, which was unusual for me. My usual writing process is fairly straightforward: start from the beginning, work my way through a draft, and then revise until the story is finished. But that wasn’t the case with “Brimstone and Brine. ” The interior story popped into my head all at once, and I wrote it down (at the time, I drafted longhand, and sometimes still do) backward because I was afraid I would forget what I wanted to do with the ending if I didn’t get that on paper first.
The story was inspired by my irritation at an episode of a TV show that was really just one in a long line of stories that use a similar scenario: a love triangle with two men who love the same woman, but because one is the protagonist, the other needs to be taken off the board. The doomed side of the love triangle often finds a way to heroically sacrifice himself, and with his death, the final obstacle for the remaining couple is removed. I tend to prefer this doomed love interest over the protagonist (I’m a big fan of side characters in general), and so, every time, I am disappointed when writers choose to follow the self-sacrifice story arc. Without giving away too much of the story, “Brimstone and Brine” is my attempt to write a better version of this scenario.
Once I had written the interior story, I realized it had too conversational of a tone to work well without being overhauled into something else entirely. I had been tossing around the idea of writing a frame story for some time, and I thought this one would work in that format. I just needed a narrator.
Prior to drafting the interior of “Brimstone and Brine,” I had written a different story with the Carving Bard (it hasn’t been published, and it is currently waiting for me to get around to revising it into the novel that it wants to be). She was already engaged in traveling the countryside telling stories while she carved walking sticks to give to her listeners, and she seemed like just the right combination of storyteller with a chip on her shoulder to tell this story. (As a side note, the character of the Bard has a completely different origin, one that stems from my frustration with prophecy stories and a quirky D&D rule—in an earlier version of the game, a handful of simple weapons, including the quarterstaff, had no cost. )
Having found my narrator, I wrote the frame with the bard as the storyteller. I liked the completed story in that format, so I wrote a couple more frame stories—one of which is “Fish and Fools,” originally published in Stupefying Stories #17. With each story, the frame and the interior tale were more closely related until I wrote “A Prophecy and the People,” which starts out with the Bard’s tale, but quickly shifts to the Bard participating in the adventures of the story.
I’ve written two other stories, one published and one not, that are tangentially connected to the Bard as well. Although they each stand alone, I would recommend reading the published Bard stories in this order:
1. “Brimstone and Brine” (recently released in Stupefying Stories #23)
2. “Fish and Fools” (available individually as an ebook)
3. “A Prophecy and the People” (available individually as an ebook or in my story collection, Sorcery & Widgets)
Technically, the first story I wrote with the Bard—the one that is waiting to be transformed into a novel—is chronologically last, so if you want to see where these stories are headed, let me know, and maybe I’ll move it up in my pile of next projects!

Brine hauler sues over biblical fracking billboard
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man who uses a biblical reference and a statement against “poisoned waters” on billboards opposing a local deep-injection gas well is fighting a legal threat from the Texas well owner on free-speech grounds.
Austin, Texas-based Buckeye Brine alleges in a July lawsuit that the billboards paid for by Michael Boals, of Coshocton, contain false and defamatory attacks against its two wells, which dispose of contaminated wastewater from oil and gas drilling.
The complaint by the company and Rodney Adams, who owns the land and operates the well site, contends the Coshocton well is safe, legal and meets all state safety standards. The parties object to statements on two billboards along U.S. Route 36, including one that “DEATH may come.”
“The accusation that the wells will cause ‘DEATH’ is a baseless and malicious attempt to damage the reputations of the plaintiffs,” according to the complaint. “The billboards are also defamatory because they state or imply that Mr. Adams and Buckeye Brine are causing ‘poisoned waters’ to enter the drinking water supply.”
Shale oil and gas drilling employing hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, produces millions of gallons of chemical-laced wastewater. The liquid, called brine, is a mix of chemicals, saltwater, naturally occurring radiation and mud.
It’s considered unsafe for ground water and aquifers, so Ohio regulations require waste liquid to be contained and injected deep underground. Ohio has recorded no aquifer contamination, but as the state grapples with more wastewater it’s seen earthquakes linked to injection wells and a Youngstown-area businessman indicted in a federal dumping case.
Boals, a 55-year-old timber harvester, refuses to pull his billboard messages, which he said cost him more than $1,000.
He said the complaint misrepresents his statements, one of which is that injection wells “pump POISONED WATERS under the feet of America’s Citizens.” The second sign quotes prophecy from Revelation — on men dying from waters “made bitter. “
“I think a lot of people hear the word ‘injection well’ and they don’t realize they inject wastewater into the ground,” he said. “I said the poisoned waters travel under the under the feet of all the people in the area. That’s a true statement. ‘Bitter’ speaks about something not desirable, not something you’d ever want to drink.”
After a cease-and-desist letter failed to get Boals to pull the signs, the legal fight escalated. Buckeye Brine directed its appeal for relief to the sign owner, and Boals enlisted the legal help of Fair Shake Environmental Legal Services.
Megan Lovett, an attorney at the Pittsburgh-based nonprofit, said Boals’ signs represent protected speech, especially in a rural, hilly region where media coverage and cellphone reception are spotty.
“You can’t defame someone with an opinion in Ohio,” she said. “You can’t control an idea. The way we control ideas is in the marketplace of ideas, not in a court.”
Lovett also argues that oil and gas drilling, particularly fracking, can rightly be considered to “destroy” and “poison” water, as the billboards contend.

With hardly any options available to her, she reconnects – and moves in with – her once distant grandmother (portrayed by Celia Imrie), and together they bring Sarah’s vision to life. At first, the bakery seems to have more potential as a “crack den” than a destination for fine pastries, but it’s not long before it becomes home for the women. (September 7th)
The One and Only Ivan
For Ivan – the 400-pound silverback gorilla voiced by Sam Rockwell – the wild only exists in his memory. However, Ivan’s happy life spent being cared for by Mack (Bryan Cranston) as if he were part of the human family keeps him from wanting anything more. That is, until he meets a newly captured baby elephant (voiced by Brooklynn Prince) that makes him question his situation. Ivan tires of pretending to be an angry gorilla for the crowds he entertains and begins painting scenes from the wild instead, which sparks his journey towards freedom and tests the bonds of family. The Dead Sea is dying. A $1.5 billion plan aims to resurrect it.
AMMAN, Jordan — At the southern tip of the Dead Sea, Sameer Mahadin recalls when the shoreline was visible from the shaded veranda of his farmhouse. The once 10-minute walk to the water’s edge now takes an hour trekking over cracked, salt-encrusted soil.
The Dead Sea is dying rapidly. The biblical body of water lying between Israel and Jordan is retreating by more than three feet a year, creating sinkholes that swallow up buildings and roads, and forcing the rich seaside landscape on which the tourism industry relies to fade into memory.
It is the saltiest sea on earth. Some experts believe it will be gone by 2050, while others say it will never fully disappear but survive at a fraction of its current size.
But after two decades of discussions about how to resurrect the Dead Sea, there is a glimmer of hope but with a huge price tag: a $1.5-billion project to build a desalination facility in Jordan to transform Red Sea water into drinking water, while pumping the remaining salty brine into the Dead Sea.
Meetings to finalize the technical details and its design are expected within weeks — a major step forward for the project.

There are references to the Dead Sea in the Old Testament and the Quran, making it significant to Christians, Jews and Muslims. One of the oldest known manuscripts of the Hebrew Bible, the Dead Sea Scrolls, were found in the region, and a section of the Jordan River about six miles north of where it flows is also considered the baptism site of Jesus Christ.
The sea is not disappearing without vengeance, though, as roughly 6,000 sinkholes have formed.
“Even the devil is not here,” said water management and environmental engineer Eshak Alguza, as the parched earth that was once underwater crunches and shatters like breaking tiles beneath his feet.
The heavy price of sinkholes has become apparent both in Jordan and on the sea’s Israeli side.
At least two of the Israel’s beaches and one tourist resort have closed, while parts of Highway 90 have vanished into the earth.
Residents in the community of Ein Gedi have turned into activists, demanding assistance as they watch the land crumble around them. “They feel that their government has abandoned them,” said Clive Lipchin, director of the Transboundary Water Management Center at the Arava Institute in Israel.
There are a multitude of reasons contributing to the decline of the Dead Sea, ranging from damming to mineral extraction. The region’s combative politics are stirred into all of them.
“This is a man-made catastrophe,” said Alguza, who is a project manager with EcoPeace Middle East, a nongovernmental organization that works with Jordanian, Israeli and Palestinian officials.

The sea is fed by the Jordan River and other smaller waterways. Ali Subah, general secretary of Jordan’s water and irrigation ministry, said the flow of the Jordan River has dropped by more than 90 percent from its recorded peak.
The river has been diverted by Israel upstream, while Syria built dams along the Yarmouk River, substantially cutting off the flow that converges with the Jordan.
Data from Jordan’s water ministry shows that rainfall in eight of the 10 years from 2004 to 2014 was below average in volume, depriving rivers and aquifers that rely on it.

Groundwater is among the sources being depleted in an attempt to meet demands. Marwan Al-Raggad, a hydrogeology professor at the University of Jordan, said the Disi aquifer, which is about 1,093 yards underground and feeds the Dead Sea, could run dry in as few as 50 years.
In addition to sources being cut off, seawater is evaporating naturally and quickly. Climate change is expected to cause temperatures in the area to rise 5 to 11 degrees by the end of the century and reduce rainfall by 30 percent.
Mineral extraction is a big industry in the region, and it is also taking a toll. Companies on both sides of the border are pumping an estimated 61.3 billion gallons a year of the seawater, although some critics allege that number is substantially higher. The water is placed in pools so it can evaporate, leaving behind valuable potash, bromine and other substances.
The retreating sea has left behind infertile saline land that, when dissolved by freshwater, becomes unstable and collapses into craters.

Mahadin, 55, said the air is less humid than it was decades ago, forcing him to buy water to irrigate his crops. About one-quarter of the farms in the area have been sold or gone out of business, he said.
A pipe dream
The Red Sea-Dead Sea conveyance project would seemingly resolve multiple issues: filling the gap of the region’s freshwater scarcity, stabilizing levels of the Dead Sea and setting a high bar for peace and collaboration between Israel, Jordan and the Palestinians.
Such cooperation is needed at a time when Jordan and Israel are entering renegotiations over a deal to share land and water that was part of a 1994 peace treaty.
While politics have been blamed for dragging out discussions over two decades, there have also been many technical complications. Among them is that foreign water could change the chemistry of the Dead Sea. Studies estimate that up to 105 billion gallonsof water could be pumped in safely into the sea annually, but any more than that would risk the formation of algae or gypsum, which would turn the water a milky white or lead to the formation crystals on the surface.

Nabil Zoubi, the project director, said Israel and Jordan will pick up one-third of the bill through support of a grant from the U.S. government and loans from the French development fund, European Commission, and the Italian and Spanish governments.
The remaining two-thirds would be footed by the private sector.
After many delays, Zoubi said the project is nearly ready tobe opened to bidders, but a few technical aspects still need to be ironed out.
The best-case scenario would see construction begin in early 2021 and take around three-and-a-half years to complete.
The southern end of the Dead Sea in Jordan.Ziad Jaber / NBC News
The first phase of the project would produce 62 billion gallons of brine, while after the second phase, another 30.4 billion gallons of brine will be pumped into the Dead Sea. But experts say 10 times that amount is needed to stabilize the sea, meaning the Red-Dead would simply be a drop in the bucket.
The Arava Institute’s Lipchin said a Plan B is required for the agricultural, tourism and other sectors that will inevitably suffer. He argues that political wrangling and excitement about the Red-Dead project are wasting precious time.
Fathi Al Haweimel, an elected government official for the area south of the sea in Jordan, said the area’s religious, political and historical significance leaves little time to waste.
“Saving the Dead Sea is the responsibility of the entire world,” he said.

The Massive Potential of the Company Owning One of the World’s Larger Lithium-brine Salars | 2021-04-26 | Investing News
Mexico is gearing up to become the dominant supplier of lithium carbonate in Central America. The increase in price of lithium carbonate and hydroxide is driven by increasing demand for lithium -ion batteries for both the electric vehicle and other mobile devices.
Within Mexico is the Salar del Diablo, which is one of the larger salars to be drilled this year. The salar sites located in the State of Baja California, Mexico and 35 kilomters from the town of San Felipe The property spans 103,450-hectares or 400 square miles and has the potential for a lithium brine discovery, not unlike deposits found in Argentina and Chile.
Vancouver, BC-based exploration and development company One World Lithium (CSE:OWLI, OCTQB:OWRDF) has the right to earn and purchase a 90 per cent working interest in the Salar del Diablo project with a mission to drill the salar and becoming a low-cost producer with a long term supply contract of 30 or more years.
While the company has already drilled the first two holes in the Salar del Diablo property, One World Lithium is moving full speed ahead and has begun drilling the next two holes effective April 21, which will be located 50 kilometres to the south of other drilling.
The first hole will be DDH-3, which is in a preferable location as it is situated in a region of historic and current hydrothermal activity. This is often the delivery system for bringing lithium to a brine.
In tandem with this, One World Lithium is also advancing its potential critical fluid separation technology, which has the potential to separate lithium carbonate and many of its related elements.
With a busy year ahead for One World Lithium, the company is making a memorable name for itself and is one that investors won’t want to miss out on.
The significance of the Salar del Diablo property
Tim Brock, a consultant, and a founding shareholder with One World Lithium, told Stockhouse Editorial in an interview that the property is only 200 metres above sea level — which is incredibly low when compared to other producers in South America that are between 1,500 to 2,500 meters above sea level.
Before any drilling on the project, only 14 per cent of the property had been explored by geochemical sampling, geophysical survey, geological mapping, and satellite imagery for structural analysis.
Although there have been some roadblocks over the last year in terms of continuing Phase 3 of the drilling program — largely because the price of lithium carbonate was low until late 2020. However, in 2021 the price of lithium carbonate ha steadily been rising and with renewed investor interest, lithium exploration companies are being funded and One World Lithium is back in the saddle.
A 12-hole drill program began on May 24, 2019 to intersect geophysical, geochemical and geological targets. The program was terminated on June 13, 2019 as the first five holes did not drill deep enough to test the targets.
By October 2019, the company started a four-hole drill program, at the recommendation of a new operator, to reach a depth of 600 metres per hole.
Hole DDH-1 was drilled adjacent to the previous first hole and DDH-2 was drilled 12 kilometres to the south and adjacent to the old 11th hole.
As the company already drilled the first two boreholes in late 2019, the remaining two boreholes of the four-hole program are currently being drilled. The four holes will total roughly 2,4000 metres, or 7,875 feet.
With the Salar del Diablo being one of the world’s larger salars to be drilled in 2021, Brock said its potential is “enormous” for the company. Once drilling sample results have been assayed, all results from DDH -1 to 4 will be released at the same time.
As One World Lithium started drilling at the south end of the property on April 21, it has the potential to be located within a hydrothermal system.
Brock told Stockhouse Editorial that what this essentially means is the property boasts similarities to Millennial Lithium’s (TSXV: ML) Pasto Grande deposit, Galaxy Resources’ (TSX:GALXF) Sal de Vita deposit and Lithium Americas’ (TSX: LAC) Cauchari Olaroz deposit which each deposit having a valuation of roughly US$1 billion.
In other words, One World Lithium’s asset has the potential to be in the same league as these properties — which bodes well for not only the company but investors. too, as One World Lithium’s property positions itself among the greats.
Behind the critical fluid separation technology
The critical fluid separation technology is well-positioned to change the face of the lithium sector.
Case in point, its advantages include the potential that evaporation ponds won’t be required, and lithium carbonate may be shipped directly to the consumer who may elect to use battery grade lithium using an ion exchange procedure. . Brock said that the technology is undergoing a proof of concept, which, in addition to the above, is faster and less expensive than using traditional evaporation ponds and will be used in commercial applications.
Following the successful completion of the proof of concept, the company will then own 100 per cent of the technology patents and then licence the technology to current and future producers of lithium from a brine.
“[One World Lithium] is very excited about the technology because it does have the potential to be a game-changer in the lithium industry,” Brock said.
The team behind One World Lithium
One World Lithium’s team is backed with decades of experience in the mining industry — although the company’s strengths can be found in every area of its business.
The company is led by Doug Fulcher, president, and CEO, who has 40 years of experience in the exploration and development of several projects.
Fulcher’s experience includes several years as Abacus Mining and Exploration’s (TSXV:AME) CEO, leading the company to drilling a resource at the Ajax copper-gold-porphyry project.
He also negotiated a joint venture with the largest copper producers in the world, KGHM Polska Miedź S.A in Poland, which included $200 million in production expense with Abacus retaining a 20 per cent carried interest.
Fulcher is also the former CEO of Maritime Gold in which he led the company in bringing the Hammer Down project back to production.
One World Lithium’s CFO is John Hamilton, who has 40 years of experience in public and private companies in both Canada and the U.S.
Leading One World Lithium’s exploration is Kevin Milledge, who has more than 35 years of experience managing programs in North, Central and South America. Some of his exploration and development programs have taken place in the states of Baja California.
Tim Brock is One World Lithium’s consultant and founding shareholder, whose experience includes sponsorship for start-up companies — both public and private — in the U.S. and Canada, as well as experience with investor relations. Several Companies he sponsored traded between C$7 and $27 per share.
What’s next for One World Lithium
As the company continues advancing its Salar del Diablo property, One World Lithium has other milestones on the horizon this year.
Additional milestones for investors to watch for this year relate to the company’s lithium separation technology. Once the proof of concept is completed, the company will be able to file for applicable patents and design a pilot plant.
Moving into 2022, following a successful pilot plant, One World Lithium anticipates licensing the technology to present and future lithium-brine producers — the license agreement may be a significant generator of cash flow for One World.
Additionally, One World Lithium remains bullish in the lithium industry, with Brock saying the company is in the right place at the right time and with the right projects.
Brock said the forecast for lithium carbonate (the spot price for lithium) is projected to go as high as $27,000 per tonne by 2025 which will be primarily driven by the electric vehicle market.
In terms of lithium demand, it is estimated that will go up to 1.6 million tonnes of lithium carbonate and hydroxide and by 2027, which Brock said will put a lot of pressure on the lithium market and to the benefit of One World Lithium.
Investor takeaway
As the Salar del Diablo project moves ahead with drilling — in addition to being one of the larger salars to be drilled this year — One World Lithium will cement itself as a unique play in the lithium market.
The company’s focus in Mexico also makes One World Lithium stand out because of the property’s potential to be located within a hydrothermal system, not unlike those found in South America.
As the company moves full speed ahead this year with the Salar del Diablo project — and as One World Lithium continues to advance its critical fluid separation technology, which maybe a game-changer for the lithium sector as a whole — the company has plenty in store for investors to keep an eye out for.

90,000 The one who predicted the death of the USSR fears for Russia, but there is still a way outHow does a dream differ from a goal, and why does the combination of these concepts threaten the collapse of everything Russian? Leafing through the studies of sociologists about our expectations in 2020 and our deepest desires, Constantinople came to the conclusion that the Russian people continue to lose ideals and are turning into a “calculator”. And this is the first sign of the dark prophecy of the writer and philosopher Alexander Prokhanov, who at one time predicted both the death of the Soviet Union and perestroika.Today the philosopher is inclined to talk about dangerous tendencies in modern Russia, and only a general idea can smooth them out. But what will it be?
“We began to dream a little bit”
When the Russian dream – with an invariably deep idea and faith – is finally replaced by the laws of the market, write is gone. Our dreams, according to VTsIOM, are already too similar to a shopping list in a supermarket: we want to improve our living conditions, buy a ticket to the sea, or even better get a “two in one” apartment on the coast. All these are understandable desires, but they have nothing to do with a dream. Rather, these are tasks and goals that have begun to replace ideals.
“Calculator” instead of ideas is also confirmed by sociologists – “three quarters of the inhabitants of Russia believe that a dream should be realized, have plans and deadlines (75%). ” The residents of the country themselves admit that they have changed the landmarks – “we began to dream a little”, messages in social networks are running. Perhaps, only taking care of the family remained basic – health for themselves; most of the respondents named their loved ones as a dream.Probably, attempts to bring down the institution are connected with this – to take the same controversy around the law on domestic violence, where completely different goals are hidden behind a screen of concern.
Fortunately, the family remains the main ideal for many. This is probably why the institute is exposed to frequent attacks. Photo: © Konstantin Kokoshkin / Globallookpress.
The loss of a dream is one of the signs of a dark prophecy Alexander Prokhanov . There is no magic or mysticism, only the sober calculation of a philosopher. On the air of the author’s program “Russian Dream” the deputy head of the World Russian People’s Council (ARNS) Konstantin Malofeev asked the philosopher to tell about the signs that he saw 30 years ago – at the decline of the USSR, and now, in our time. The philosopher bitterly stated:
“The triumph of our Russian dream, of course, Crimea. This is an inspiration. The Russian dream was given to Russian people as a miracle. a breakthrough, the next stage of development – we have not transferred ourselves to the next level of civilization. And a dream does not like to sit on a branch, it requires movement – it is movement itself. And if society, people, the state stop the dream, it will sit and sit and fly to some other branch and disappear altogether. Therefore, today the country is in anticipation, some numbness. And, stopped, it becomes prey. “
“Alexander Prokhanov: what is the ‘Russian dream’.
Prokhanov admitted that he is annoyed to see how today, when Russia has stopped in a daze,” deep opponents raise their heads. “On the one hand,” if the enemy raises his head, it can be cut off. ” on the other hand, the philosopher is sure, “today the state does not have an instrument to remove these heads.”
“With my skin I feel a tragic repetition. With my skin I feel that this dramatic wheel of Russian history is starting to turn again.”
Becoming a prey, Russia “goes through the eye of the needle of its history,” and “it is now hard, difficult and, perhaps, scary for her.” And the lost idea must become the saving tool.

“Accountants from the 90s” no longer fit Russia
The search for an idea – that very Russian dream – is what Konstantin Malofeev, together with the guests of Constantinople, have been doing over the past months in a special television project. However, the program is only a part of the global strategy “Russian Dream – 2050”, which was developed by Malofeev’s team and his associates at ARNS. They fill the Strategy today too – proposals are accepted by mail [email protected].
Returning to the program “Russian Dream”, let’s continue… In the first issue, the vice-speaker of the State Duma Pyotr Tolstoy admitted that he had a clear feeling – “something needs to be done in the absence of an idea.”
“You can’t push people to action just by some kind of, I don’t know, material incentives or extra time off. Only a general idea can push people to action. This idea should be there. You have to think about it. This is the task of politicians today.” …
Konstantin Malofeev added: the formulation of ideals is already half the way.And the search for a form is a question for everyone, not only for government officials. Political scientist Sergei Mikheev in one of the issues suggested that we are marking time, just trying to “find some main directions.” Having scrambled out of the 90s, we cannot decide in any way – “whether to deal only with the economy, and Russia is about money, or vice versa – to forget and go back to the Soviet Union. ” Neither one nor the other is impossible, the guest insisted, since “for Russians, Russia is a way of being in the historical process.”
Sergei Mikheev’s Russian Dream.
“Russia is not only a civilization, but also a kind of ark for the Russian people. Otherwise, as here, otherwise as in this form, the Russian people have never existed anywhere else in the historical process and most likely will not be able to exist. Rejecting the idea that the Russians are – a separate civilization sailing in this ship, preserving itself and its history, we are doomed to perish. ”
Everyone should keep this ark, and the elites in the first place, Mikheev believes. But do the elites realize the need to preserve Russian civilization? “Unfortunately, to a very small extent.” This is probably another part of our common problem.
“Let’s be honest, the 90s brought to the surface those who raised a very primitive success in the framework of the only criterion of elitism. In my personal opinion, the elite are those who, first of all, are ready to take the fate of the people with responsibility. and the fate of the state; secondly, treat it with love. ”
Surprisingly, it was these characteristics of the elite that we mentioned in the VTsIOM poll when we talked about the successor to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
By articulating the qualities of the best leader in Russia, Russians are also creating a kind of dream. Photo: © Kremlin Pool / Globallookpress.
Believing in a person, not a car – is there a peculiarity of Russians?
The type of Russian leader, pleasing to the majority, is a modern, dynamic state administrator with a strong character and a weighty dose of patriotism, “who will never sacrifice Russia’s independence, its sovereignty and the status of a great power for the sake of overseas” cookies “. This is how the head of VTsIOM Valery Fedorov painted the image of Putin’s successor this summer. On the air of “Russian Dream” Ivan Okhlobystin concretized such a choice, it seems, ideally merging into the general mood.
Ivan Okhlobystin’s Russian Dream.
“I know one thing: I don’t have faith in a simple procedural formula. I believe in a specific person. With all his changes, with all the possibilities, some kind of transformation. But at the same time, he remains a person.Because I do not want to serve paper, but a person, and I think that my interests should be represented by a person, not a machine. And therefore, the basis of state power must be a person. In principle, this is a monarchy. But you can call it whatever you like. I just call it “monarchy” for ease of understanding. You can find a tricky word from Wikipedia or something else. Sole reign, for example “.
Russian President Vladimir Putin could become such a sole ruler, Okhlobystin believes. However, he will not do this, just realizing that he will work 100 percent. After all, being president means “marrying Russia”, forgetting about any personal life. It is these people, according to Ivan Okhlobystin, that Putin is preparing today. This is a kind of platform – “apparently, a new generation of commanding ranks should be born.” For now, we will continue our journey following the Russian idea and dream.
Only by uniting around an idea can we find a common denominator. Photo: © Alexander Novikov / Globallookpress.

90,000 Riot in glory of the prophet Who is behind the prison riots with Islamist overtones: Crime: Power structures: Lenta. ru
More than 200 prisoners staged an action of disobedience last weekend in the Khakass colony No. 35. One of the requirements is religious concessions for Muslims. The special forces of the republican UFSIN had to storm the building of the correctional institution. “Lenta.ru” figured out how and by whom the riots with Islamist overtones are organized in captivity.
This is one of the largest prisoners’ actions in recent years. According to the regional department of the Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR), 242 people were involved in unlawful actions.
Related materials:
As reported on the website of the administration, from late July 24 to the morning of the next day, a large group of prisoners, barricading themselves in the dormitory of one of the colony buildings, raged and destroyed state property. They were led by a prisoner convicted of stealing a vehicle.
“It has been established that one building of the IK-35 room and the adjacent territory, on which the prisoners threw bedside tables and other objects, were destroyed from the inside. In addition, the inside of the premises (offices, cells, life support rooms) was destroyed by the actions of prisoners who turned over beds, threw bedside tables, and broke down doors, “- said in a press release from the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in Khakassia.
They stormed with “music”
The personnel of the Federal Penitentiary Service was alerted. After six hours of fruitless negotiations, a decision was made on a military operation. Subsequently, through the press service of the Federal Penitentiary Service for Khakassia, a video was circulated showing the assault.
Fighters of the departmental special forces needed storm-ladders in order to penetrate the dormitory on the last level of the three-story building with shock groups. The capture group from below was backed up by fighters with water cannons – cold water often sober up rioters.
Also, special forces used flash and noise explosives to disorient the rebels. As reported in the republican department of the Federal Penitentiary Service, everything went without casualties both among the jailers and among the prisoners.

A criminal case was initiated under article 212 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“organization and participation in mass riots”).And the investigation already has several defendants.
Obviously impossible ultimatum
A serious emergency in the colony caused a great resonance in the republic. The authorities called a press conference. According to the Khakassia news agency, a group of rioters demanded that the administration be allowed to walk without identification stripes, not to fasten the top button, and to smoke anywhere.
The speakers at the press conference cited as an example the following wish of one of the rebels: “I want to go out on the porch and smoke with a cup of tea. “
According to the head of the regional UFSIN Yaroslav Bazhan, ultimatums of a religious nature were also heard. According to him, the main instigators of the riots were Muslims. They categorically demanded that Muslims should be allowed to pray at any time. While talking to the administration representatives, the negotiators shouted “Allahu Akbar”.
Later, the representative of the regional department of the TFR Svetlana Pavina said that the criminals were trying to get mobile phones in order to contact other Siberian colonies and arrange similar actions of disobedience.
Bazhan suggested that the convicted ringleaders arrived in Khakassia purposefully to destabilize the situation in the correctional institution. In particular, one alleged organizer of the riots was transferred from the capital two days earlier, two “drove” into the “red” zone a week and a half ago, and two more turned out to be local.
The head of the regional department of the department also noted that there are about 50 percent of prisoners professing Islam in the Khakass colonies.

A frightening trend
Famous Islamic professor State Linguistic University Roman Silantyev believes the Khakass riot is part of a well-organized plan to introduce radical religious ideas among prisoners.
– The so-called problem of the prison jamaat, unfortunately, is becoming more and more urgent, – says the interlocutor of Lenta.ru. – In fact, this is compulsion to convert to Islam or change confessions. Some prisoners are threatened, others are offered material benefits. In the overwhelming majority of cases, missionary activities are carried out by radical Islamists who are serving sentences for terrorism.
The action in Khakassia, according to the professor, is a demonstration of the strength and unity of those convicted on the basis of Islam.
– This is not the first religious action. Similar demands to perform namaz at any time were put forward by prisoners in the Yakut correctional institution, says Silantyev.
The problem, according to Silantyev, is that the issue of isolating extremist criminals from other prisoners is not being resolved.
The creation of specialized prisons for terrorists in Russia is still being discussed in various instances, including the Security Council.

Not the first case
In the spring of 2009, riots in Saratov penal colony No. 33 were staged by HIV-infected repeat offenders and persistent violators of the regime.About 100 convicts opened the doors, entered the squadron’s premises, and started a fight there. No demands were made.
In November 2012, inmates of correctional colony No. 6 of Kopeysk went on a hunger strike and displayed posters asking for help. The local riot police had to disperse the relatives of the convicts and sympathizers at the walls of the penal colony.
In the fall of 2014, inmates of the settlement colony in the Magadan Region staged riots. Five inmates set fire to the inner premises of the hostel and the administrative building after the colony officers tried to put one of the prisoners in the punishment cell for drinking alcohol.
In March 2016, the special forces of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Vladimir Region stopped riots near the walls of the famous “Vladimirsky Central”. There gathered supporters of the prisoner Khamzat Aushev, a criminal authority who was allegedly beaten in a correctional institution.
Macron justified himself for caricature of the Prophet Muhammad
Emmanuel Macron says Muslims misunderstood him

The French government has nothing to do with the 2015 cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad published in the Parisian magazine Charlie Hebdo. French President Emmanuel Macron said this on the air of the Qatari TV station Al Jazeera.
“These figures were published by an independent publication not affiliated with the French government. The French authorities have nothing to do with this, this is not a government project, ”TASS quotes Macron.
The French leader also noted that he understands the anger of Muslims because of the cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. However, in his opinion, their protests against France were caused by a misinterpretation of his statement about the murder of a French teacher who showed his students cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.Macron added that people took his statement as if he supported these drawings, but this is not the case.
After the death of the French teacher, the President of the Republic announced that the French authorities would begin to fight against adherents of “radical ideology and the associations they created.” On Friday, in Asia, Africa and the Middle East, protests were held against the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in France. They called Macron “the enemy of Allah”, burned French flags, tore and trampled portraits of the president of the republic, writes RT.The publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad was also criticized in the Russian Orthodox Church, according to the Nation News agency.

Bulgarian clairvoyant Vanga predicted in the last century that in 2020 humanity will face a dangerous pandemic.
The clairvoyant said that in 2020 people will die on the streets due to a terrible virus that will return to Earth decades later.
According to Internet sites, Wanga voiced her prediction back in 1995 during a conversation with one of her relatives.
The clairvoyant predicted that the pandemic would occur in a “double year”.
A poisonous yellow fog will rise over the world … The old, and the young, and the poor, and the rich will fall until they are healed by a cedar cone that comes from Siberia, – said the seer.
Esotericists believe that Wanga meant exactly 2020.The seer believed that humanity would face an old virus.
It is worth noting that outbreaks of coronavirus infection have occurred twice already. This year, there was an outbreak of a new type of coronavirus, its strain was not previously known to science. In general, RNA viruses were known to medicine before.
The seer also predicted that people would die on the streets from the new virus.
If you do not take Vanga’s words too literally, then she was right. As of May 4, 2020, more than 3.4 million cases of coronavirus were recorded in the world. The disease has already spread to 187 countries around the world.
Wanga predicted a much larger number of victims. Hundreds of millions of people will die from the virus, she said. However, the soothsayer did not rule out that a vaccine against the virus would be created that would save humanity.
It is worth noting that these words of Vanga also come true. Scientists are currently developing a vaccine for the coronavirus.
The drug is expected to enter mass production next year.

Soviet-style jerky – Four flavors – March 30 – 43225320820
This recipe’s jerky will be prepared with minimal effort and will look great on a festive table. Prepare a brine of such a concentration that a fresh, raw egg floats in it “for five Soviet kopecks.”This is a strong saline solution. When you dip a fresh raw egg into it, it will plunge into the brine and float – only the blunt end of the egg will be visible, approximately 2.5 cm in diameter.
2) Rinse fresh meat (pulp) thoroughly under running water, put in cold brine, cover with a lid and put in the refrigerator for 1 to 3 days. The time depends on the size of the piece of meat and the desire for the degree of salting. During salting, meat in brine must be turned over 1-2 times a day.
3) After 1-3 days, remove the meat from the brine, dry it thoroughly with a napkin and put it on an inclined plane for about 1 hour under pressure, so that the rest of the brine is squeezed out of it and flowed out.
4) Then rub the meat well with a mixture of dry spices and roll liberally in them on all sides. Take dry ground spices for the mixture to taste, but among them there should be a sufficient amount of red ground pepper, because it has good preservative properties.
5) Wrap the seasoned meat in clean dry gauze and keep in a sealed container for 1 week in the refrigerator on the middle or bottom shelf.
6) After a week, replace the gauze (additionally roll in the seasoning mixture) and hang in a well-ventilated place. For example, under the ceiling in the kitchen. In the photo, the meat in gauze is suspended from the curtain rod. The jerky will be ready in 1-2 weeks. It is especially convenient to cook jerky in the cold season, when the heating is on, because at this time, the air in the apartment is dry and the temperature is cool. |

90,000 Crimean scientists know where to get water for the peninsula
Crimean scientists offer several ways to solve the problem of water supply to the peninsula. The President of the Crimean Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Professor Viktor Tarasenko told about this to the Parlamentskaya Gazeta.
Desalination stations can be installed near Evpatoria and at the Arabat spit
According to the scientist, the most effective option today is the installation of powerful desalination stations, each of which is capable of producing 70 million cubic meters of fresh water per year.
To make it clear what volumes we are talking about, let’s say that annually nature gives Crimea about 700-800 million cubic meters of water, of which about half is collected and used for water supply – 400 million. Thus, the installation of two powerful desalination plants is able to increase the amount of water to supply the region by more than a third.
According to the expert, with the availability of funding, these desalination plants can be installed and launched within the next one and a half to two years.
“In order to guarantee the provision of Crimea, it is necessary to proceed to the desalination of sea water,” the scientist says. – Today this technology is actively used in Saudi Arabia, Israel, Spain, Italy and other southern countries.Perth, Australia, with a population of one and a half million, lives entirely off the desalination of the Indian Ocean. Taking into account population growth and climate change, mankind has no alternative to the use of desalination plants. ”
The best places for the installation of desalination plants in Crimea, Tarasenko believes, are the coast of the Kalamitsky Bay and the Arabatskaya arrow. This is due to the fact that there is where to dump the brine formed as a result of desalination. It is undesirable to simply pour it into the sea, as it can damage the ecological system. An enterprise engaged in the extraction of salt is located near the Kalamitsky Gulf, on the Sasyk-Sivash lake, so it will be able to use the brine for production purposes. And in the area of the Arabat Spit there are checks of the former salt field.
Water from the desalination plant on the shores of the Kalamitsky Bay will supply Simferopol and the Simferopol region, the scientist suggests, and from the desalination plant on the Arabat Spit – the east of the peninsula.
Crimean rivers will not be allowed into the sea?
Another option, which is offered by scientists from the Crimean Academy of Sciences, the Research Institute of Agriculture of the Crimea and the Sevastopol State University, is the search and extraction of deep groundwater in the mountainous and foothill Crimea at a depth of 500 to one thousand meters.
“Large reservoirs of fresh water are formed in the zones of tectonic faults, at depths from 500 to 800 and even thousands and more meters,” says Tarasenko.
Sevastopol scientists have identified such reservoirs in Mongolia and North Africa. In Crimea, according to their assumptions, such a reservoir can be opened, in particular, in the Simferopol region, in the vicinity of the village of Sofiyivka. It will take four to five months to conduct research and drill wells.
“This, of course, is not a global solution to the problem, but at least for a certain period it can alleviate the situation,” Tarasenko assesses the project. At the same time, in general, in his opinion, the massive drilling of wells for water production, of course, harms the subsoil and can be considered only as an emergency, temporary solution.
Finally, another proposal was put forward by scientists from the V.I. Vernadsky – to collect the runoff of the rivers of the Western Crimea flowing into the Black Sea – Belbek, Kachi, Alma. Tarasenko assesses this idea critically, saying that it could harm the ecological system of the Belbek, Kachin, Alminskaya valleys and people living and working in these fertile places.
All three proposals were presented at a meeting with the participation of the Head of the Republic of Crimea Sergei Aksyonov, and now they are evaluating the possibility of their practical implementation.
But from time to time the idea of building a water conduit from the Krasnodar Territory along the bottom of the Kerch Strait, according to Tarasenko, is unpromising, since the Kuban, especially the Taman Peninsula bordering the Crimea, is itself experiencing a shortage of water. In the same way, another, less well-known project of a water conduit to the Crimea from the mouth of the Don looks unrealizable, since there is no “excess water” there either, and besides, massive water withdrawal can complicate navigation along this river.
Water losses on the way to the consumer should not reach 80 percent
Huge opportunities for saving water lie in the repair of water pipes and water pipelines, says Tarasenko. At the end of August, the head of Rosvodresursov Dmitry Kirillov said that in the arid Crimea, the largest water losses in Russia on the way to the consumer – they reach 80 (!!!) percent. This is due to the fact that for a quarter of a century of the “Ukrainian history of Crimea” practically not a penny was invested in its communal sphere, and with the fact that the Crimean residents greatly relaxed the North Crimean Canal, thanks to which the peninsula in the sixties – seventies of the last century turned to the land of gardens and vineyards.Crimea received three billion cubic meters of fresh water per year through the North Crimean Canal, 80 percent of which was used for irrigation. In the Soviet years, 430 thousand hectares were irrigated on the peninsula, now – 17 thousand.
Now is a different time. “We must be careful with every drop that God gives us,” says Tarasenko. – To use everything that “falls from the sky”, and, apparently, in the future, add to this desalinated sea water. ”
An important long-term task, which actually had to be started six years ago, is the development of an effective system of integrated water resources management of the peninsula.“We need to work systematically, and not when a roasted rooster bites,” says Tarasenko. Since the closure of the North Crimean Canal in 2014, Crimean scientists have warned that precipitation on the peninsula is cyclical and sooner or later dry years will inevitably come to replace high-flowing years. Unfortunately, these warnings were not properly heeded.
