Former Overstock.com CEO claims to have an army of ‘hackers and cyber sleuths’ that can prove Trump won reelection

The former CEO of Utah-based Overstock.com — an eccentric millionaire who resigned last year after saying he had a romantic relationship with alleged Russian spy Maria Butina at the request of the FBI — said this week that he’s now funding an army of hackers to try to prove that President Donald Trump won reelection.
Patrick Byrne made the claim Tuesday during an interview on One America News, a far-right, pro-Trump cable channel. His accusations that Democrats manipulated the election and stole votes from Trump are unfounded.
Still, he said: “I’ve funded a team of hackers and cybersleuths, other people with odd skills” in an attempt to show otherwise.
Byrne, 57, also spoke about his plans this week on several YouTube shows and podcasts hosted by individuals who promote the QAnon conspiracy theory, which alleges a cabal of elites and liberals are involved in a worldwide child pedophile ring that Trump is fighting. At the center of the conspiracy is an anonymous character known as “Q” who posts cryptic messages online. The FBI has labeled the group a potential domestic terror threat.
“I’m a free agent, and I’m self-funded, and I’m funding this army of various odd people,” Byrne told a QAnon supporter during one podcast later reported on by The Daily Beast. “It’s really going to make a great movie someday.”
Byrne said he’s been concerned since August that the voting machines used in the election were faulty and changed the vote tallies against Trump. And he believes his team of “hackers and crackers” have the proof.
That’s partly the same argument that Trump’s team of lawyers has claimed, as well, in calling for a recount.
But the voting machine company has repeatedly denied any malfunctions with the equipment. And there is no evidence that any votes were miscounted or altered as Byrne claims. He did not provide any proof during his interviews.
In an emailed statement Saturday, Byrne added only: “For some months I proudly have been funding a Bad News Bears collection of just the right spooks, lawyers and ethical hackers, patriots all, to reverse engineer, infiltrate, and disrupt this coup.”
A spokesperson for Byrne also included a link to his blog that calls the election “rigged.”
Trump lost the election to President-elect Joe Biden. Recounts in battleground states have reinforced that, as well, and multiple judges have tossed out Trump’s lawsuits as meritless.
Overstock distanced itself from Byrne on Twitter on Saturday night.
“Overstock has no current association or affiliation with Patrick Byrne or any of his efforts,” reads the tweet.

Overstock CEO Jonathan Johnson also tweeted that Byrne is not involved with company today.
“It’s been 15 months since Patrick left @Overstock,” he wrote. “We’re in the e-commerce business and the blockchain business. Those promoting any boycott of our businesses are directing their efforts in the wrong direction.”

That exploded in July 2019 when he decided to go public about his apparent involvement with investigations into Russian interference in U.S. elections and his alleged relationship with Butina at the behest of the “Men in Black.” Butina is the lone Russian national arrested in U.S. probes of interference in the 2016 presidential election.
After his statement, share prices in Byrne’s company plummeted. And a week later he resigned as the head of Overstock.com.
“Though patriotic Americans are writing me in support,” Byrne said at the time, “my presence may affect and complicate all manner of business relationships, from insurability to strategic discussions regarding our retail business.
In addition to locating his business in Utah, Byrne has been deeply involved in politics in the state.
He spent $850,000 to support the campaign of former Overstock.com executive and now interim CEO Jonathan Johnson, leading Gov. Gary Herbert to criticize Byrne as Johnson’s “sugar daddy.” Johnson topped Herbert in the GOP Convention but was defeated in the primary.
He has also supported school voucher efforts here.
Since Byrne left Overstock.com, the company’s revenues have rebounded. He has claimed on his personal blog, DeepCapture.com, that he has fled the United States. His interviews this week were all from undisclosed locations.
Galaxy (ASX:GXY) shareholders vote in favour of Orocobre (ASX:ORE) merger

The Galaxy Resources Limited (ASX: GXY) share price and the Orocobre Limited (ASX: ORE) share price will be ones to watch next week.
This follows the release of an update on their planned merger after the market close.
What was announced?
This afternoon Galaxy announced that the requisite majorities of its shareholders voted in favour of its proposed merger with Orocobre.
According to the release, 96.94% of Galaxy shareholders present voted in favour of the merger, with 98.69% of the votes cast in its favour.
What now?
With Galaxy’s shareholders voting in favour of the merger, its completion is close to being a formality.
The release explains that Galaxy will now seek approval of the scheme of arrangement by the Supreme Court of Western Australia. This will be at a hearing scheduled for 13 August 2021.
If the court approves the scheme at the hearing, Galaxy intends to lodge a copy of the orders with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission on 16 August 2021. At that point, the scheme will become effective.
If this occurs, Galaxy shares will be suspended from trading with effect from the close of trade on 16 August 2021. After which, implementation of the scheme is expected to occur on 25 August 2021, subject to the satisfaction or waiver of the remaining conditions precedent.
Finally, the new Orocobre shares will then commence trading on ASX on a normal settlement basis on 26 August.
Why merge?
Both companies expect the merger to create value for shareholders and leave the merged entity well-placed to benefit from increasing demand for lithium.
Back in April, Galaxy’s Chairman, Martin Rowley, commented: “This transaction has the potential to be a significant value-creating opportunity for Galaxy and Orocobre shareholders. The Scheme provides shareholders of Galaxy with the opportunity to share in the significant benefits of being part of a larger diversified group and the synergies expected to be available to help enhance and progress our portfolio of world class assets. The merged entity’s growth opportunities in both brine and hard rock position it uniquely to take advantage of expected rising EV demand for lithium.”
Investors certainly appear to agree. Since the announcement in April, the Galaxy share price is up 34% and the Orocobre share price is up 37%.

A simple recipe for lightly salted pickled cucumbers
Surely most of you associate summer with delicate, fragrant, crispy lightly salted cucumbers.Cucumber season is approaching, and it’s time to start collecting recipes for what you can make from this wonderful vegetable.
For cooking you will need:
- Fresh cucumbers – 1 kg
- Dill – 50 g
- Pepper peas – 15 pcs.
- Water – 1 L
- Bay leaves – 5 pcs.
- Sugar – 1 tbsp. l.
- Salt – 2 tbsp. l.
- Black currant leaves – 10 g
- Dill (umbrellas) – 50 g
- Horseradish – 5 pcs.
- Garlic cloves – 10 pcs.
Cooking process:
Cucumbers are best used in medium and small sizes. For faster salting, you can trim each cucumber on both sides.
- First, rinse the cucumbers thoroughly and cover them with cold water.
- While the cucumbers are soaking, you can do the pickle. To do this, bring the water to a boil.
- When the water in the saucepan is boiling, add salt and sugar to it. Stir and keep on fire for about one minute until the loose ingredients are completely dissolved.
- Rinse the leaves, peel the garlic and combine all the ingredients in a separate container: an umbrella of dill, cloves of garlic, torn leaves of currant and horseradish, bay leaves, peppercorns. Mix everything and cut equally into 3-4 parts.
- At the bottom of the container in which you plan to pickle cucumbers, put one part of herbs and spices. Then – a layer of cucumbers. After that – again a layer of spices and herbs, and then – cucumbers. And so continue until you run out of cucumbers.Please note that the top layer should be herbs and spices.
- Pour boiling brine over the cucumbers. It should completely cover the contents of the cucumber container.
- Let the brine cool, then put the container in the refrigerator. Wait at least a day. Ready-made salted cucumbers should be stored in the refrigerator in brine.

Scientists have created a cyborg rose that functions like an electrical circuit.The choice of scientists fell on a rose from a group of floribunda varieties. The cyber rose first saw the light of day in 2015, when researchers from Linkoping University (Sweden) demonstrated an unusual electric plant, but not made of silicon and metal.
Researchers implanted a synthetic polymer into a living flower, which entered the vascular system and eventually self-assembled into long chains capable of conducting electrical signals. Scientists have invented the polymer PEDOT-S, which is absorbed into the vascular system of plants like water.Once inside the rose, the polymer forms “wires” in the xylem (the main water-conducting tissue of terrestrial vascular plants) – an electric current can be sent through them without blocking the access of water and nutrients to the body.
The ultimate goal was to develop a fully functional guide flower, so the researchers decided to create a different, more suitable version of the polymer (oligomer) that the rose could absorb without harming its vascular system.
“Wires” from the oligomer inside the plant are separated and isolated from cells, which, in turn, are rich in electrolytes. At a basic level, they are key components for creating supercapacitors – a kind of battery that can hold a strong charge for a short amount of time.
They hope to use the unique abilities of plants to create new types of sensors, green antennas and electricity from chlorophyll.In the future, this may mean that plants will no longer be only a food source or green mass. Forests can be turned into large-scale eco-generators, which will have a positive impact on both energy and the environment. After all, scientists believe that plants are a kind of solar panels, and we can use them for our own purposes.

Does the sport belong in high school? In a rapidly growing number of high schools, gamers are the new athletes.
School districts are committed to establishing esports clubs and competitive teams. Inspired articles, sometimes written by the tech industry, talk about how popular esports became popular among Gen Z, how esports is driving STEM education, and how much money can be made from esports careers.

The adoption of esports has also brought predictable horror. For example, opposition politicians in Canada have tried to score political points against the government, arguing that high school esports programs can contribute to cyber addiction. Others say they don’t know if esports should be considered a sport.As Amy Whitlock, an esports coach at a high school in Illinois, noted, “People don’t see esports as a legal sport and say it’s not a productive activity.

These abbreviated arguments are short-sighted and betray a fundamental misunderstanding of the potential risks and benefits of esports in schools. Esports is neither a panacea nor a curse for attracting students. Like any activity, the devil is in execution. How eSports is implemented in schools by politicians and administrators will affect whether our youth get the best version – healthy, safe and balanced.
Responsible use of esports in schools depends on the correct definition of “esports”. Politicians, educators, and parents need to understand that esports isn’t just about video games. Esports is the recognition of video games as a source of competitive play in a structured group environment. Contrary to old-fashioned stereotypes that video games are unhealthy, lonely and unkempt young people, esports has largely evolved into bringing a healthy, social and structured form of team play to the video game industry.Professional esports organizations like Gen.G are investing large sums of money in high-profile educational institutions that provide the necessary development of positive group dynamics in the environment in which wellness professionals such as nutritionists, personal trainers and physical therapists work.
By embracing esports, schools can capitalize on its organic growth and distract students from non-interactive, sedentary entertainment paths to activities that can instill shared values and principles.
Among these values is that physical and mental activity and wellness are the keys to a quality eSports game. As with any competitive activity, esports organizations have found that attitudes towards health and wellness seriously help athletes to be more competitive and lengthen their careers while reducing injury and mental exhaustion. They increasingly use the same strategies as traditional sports: gym training, preventative stretching and testing to prevent re-injury, limiting training hours to combat mental fatigue, and focusing on nutrition and sleep.
Politicians and educators should take a page from this professional play. Rather than just building esports venues and creating opportunities for on-screen practice, the same emphasis should be placed on promoting overall health and well-being. A holistic approach to esports will also help track down and reduce the real danger of gambling addiction. Even the most ardent advocates of esports admit that video games can be addictive. The World Health Organization and the American Psychiatric Association recognize “gambling disorder” and “Internet gambling” disorder, respectively, as a potential source of what the APA considers “significant deterioration or distress,” and more research is needed to assess its frequency and prevalence among the Population.In contrast to the generally unsupported claims by Republican and Democratic politicians that video games have harmful effects on mental health, current concerns about the link between gaming and addiction are largely due to responsible scientific research. Our national and local leaders must be prepared to vigilantly tackle the risk of addiction by responsibly unleashing esports and engaging in extracurricular activities that promote balanced digital and analog play by finding optimal learning times to improve individual or team skills.

Civic leaders must have a plan to meet the demand for esports whether they understand the appeal or not. Cybersport is a phenomenon that inevitably infiltrates the extracurricular life of schoolchildren. Look at the explosive growth of college esports, from which activities often extend to high school. In 2016, only seven colleges had esports teams; today there are more than 130 of them, which collectively offer more than $ 15 million in special scholarships.What’s more, even youth sports organizations like the National Federation of State High School Associations acknowledge that while participation in traditional high school sports is declining for the first time in 30 years, participation in esports is on the rise. That’s why they’ve partnered with venture capital-backed esports leagues like PlayVS to make esports a sporting reality among high school students in your city or city.
But the proliferation of esports in schools shouldn’t be just a matter of tech companies, game publishers, venture capitalists, or sports organizations.
