Brett, his wife, Bobbie, and kids Emma and Ethan have answered the call of God to win people to and build the Kingdom of God in Kampala, Uganda, Africa.
Brett and Bobbie have been faithful members of their home church, Engrafted Word Church (www.engraftedword.org) in Cookeville, TN for over 19 years now. They served as the Youth Leaders for over 6 years and Brett as Evangelism Leader for 13 years. In addition, Brett had also been a member of the EWC Praise & Worship Team for 15 years, and they’ve worked in various other areas of the Helps Ministry. They were ordained and sent out into the mission field by their pastors, Pastor Chris and Manda McMichael.
Brett grew up in various towns across America, from Michigan, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Tennessee, while Bobbie was born and raised in Middle Tennessee. They first met in 1995 at their home church, while they were attending Tennessee Tech University. Brett graduated in Dec ’98 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bobbie in May ’99 with a degree in Information Systems. They married in June 1999, and saw the birth of their daughter, Emma, in 2002 and their son, Ethan, in 2005.
Brett has known the call of God was on his life since he was 7, winning his first friend to Jesus. In 2010, while they were on a mission trip to Honduras, the Spirit of the Lord began to deal heavily with the Scudder’s about leaving their home in Tennessee and evangelizing other countries. The Lord began to show them the condition of the US and the need to reach other countries with the Gospel before the soon-coming return of Jesus. On August 29, 2010, the Lord confirmed His Word again to the Scudder’s through their pastor, Chris McMichael, by saying “you’ll have to cast a far net”. From that time forward, the Scudder’s have set their sights on global evangelism and reaching the world with the Gospel of Christ.

Abstract: A method and system for monitoring replaceable components of a work unit is disclosed. The method assigns an RFID tag to each wear part of a work unit. Prior to each operating cycle, the RFID tags are read and the RFID tags are correlated to corresponding wear parts. During operation of the work unit, operating parameters are read from the pumping unit and associated with each of the wear parts. A real-time life cycle status is determined for each of the wear parts based upon historic operating parameters and present operating parameters. Based upon the real-time life cycle status, the system and method of the present disclosure predicts the remaining wear life and relays this information to interested third parties. Interested third parties can then contact the equipment owner to provide information as to when parts need to be replaced prior to failure.

Former Bears great Steve McMichael battling ALS
Which is why it’s so jarring for Bears fans to hear McMichael is battling ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, which is the progressive nervous system disease which disrupts the brain’s ability to communicate with muscles. The cause of the disease is unknown and there is no cure.
McMichael, 63, told WGN’s Jarrett Payton he was first diagnosed with ALS in September at the Mayo Clinic. The diagnosis was confirmed in a second opinion Jan. 7 by doctors at Rush University Medical Center. Doctors believe the disease likely began setting in as early as 36 months ago.
McMichael’s wife of 23 years, Misty, is taking care of him at their home in Romeoville. The couple has a 13-year-old daughter Macy.
McMichael can no longer raise his arms or hold anything in his hands. His leg strength is also failing.
Well wishes poured in from all across the Chicago community and football community. The Bears sent out a tweet with #TeamMongo and a photo from McMichael’s playing days.
ESPN radio’s Marc Silverman of the “Waddle and Silvy” on show ESPN AM-1000 wrote that McMichael is “the most underrated Bears player of all time. He is also underrated as a person.” McMichael worked for the radio station after his playing days were over.
He is a man of many talents, too.
McMichael could often be found around the Chicago area playing music with the Chicago 6 Band. The band formed during downtime caused by the 1987 NFL players’ strike and originally included McMichael, Dan Hampton, Otis Wilson, Walter Payton and Dave Duerson.
McMichael ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Romeoville in 2013, and has a restaurant, Mongo McMichael’s, in Romeoville.
McMichael grew up in Texas and played college football for the Texas Longhorns. He is in the College Football Hall of Fame. The New England Patriots drafted him in the third round of the 1980 draft but cut him prior to his second season. He signed with the Bears as a free agent and played for the team 13 years.
He played in the 1986 and 1987 Pro Bowls and was voted All-Pro in 1985 and 1987. He ended his career with a brief stint with the Green Bay Packers in 1994.
In 2019, to mark the organization’s 100th anniversary, the Bears released a list of the top 100 Bears of all time. McMichael came in at No. 19.

” I get up for training at 5:30 in the morning. ” medal of the world championship, in Budapest won the European championship. For RIA Novosti, he told how he came to swimming, what is his favorite distance and why he had to forget about hockey.
Trainer and priorities
My trainer is Natalia Nikolaevna Roshchina. Anton Vladimirovich Moskovenko once noticed something in me and gave it to her. So from a very young age I have been working with her.
It so happened that I was good at long distances – 1500 m, 800 m. 1500 m was obtained in short water, but gradually we moved away from this and moved to 400 m freestyle and 200 m.I like 200 m more, but 400 m is not bad either.
I try to train more at home. Sometimes we write the training camps into the training plan, but we have good conditions at home too, the “fifty kopeck” pool …
At the training camp I train alone. At home, there is a small team with whom you can spar.
In my family, no one swam, no one was involved in professional sports, but I always felt support. Mom has always supported me. She said: “If necessary, go, recover, you can skip school.”It was correct. We then went a lot at training camps and for my recovery just to go after training to rest and sleep was an important moment.
About the regime
In the morning on Krugly we go for a swim at 10 am – this is a good alignment according to the regime. In Omsk I have to get up very early – at 5:30 in the morning. Well, as for the morning finals at the Olympics, I think it’s really possible to prepare for this. I have no problems with sleep, if you revise the regime in advance, then, probably, no difficult moments will arise with this.
I pay a lot of attention to the gym – we have strength for two days, one day for flexibility. I always need a hall. Until I do this, I will be too light on the water, I need to feel the heaviness in the muscles. When we are already preparing for the competition, we dump it all and translate it into a result.
About the protests and Sun Yang on the podium
Honestly, in Gwangju I had absolutely no time for this – not up to the whole story of the protest on the podium. I had my first big competition, my first personal medal at the World Championship.I was just glad. I didn’t want to delve into all this. There was a lot of attention to all this.
Do you have another menu?
I endured in Gwangju, waited for when we would return home and could eat normally. Everything there was spicy, sweet sauces, always the same thing. I also don’t like rice. I can not stand. There was almost nothing of meat. I would take something meat and smoked with me to the Olympic Games. Potatoes or something. Well, if they do not miss it, then at least buckwheat.
About illness in the Olympic season
Due to illness, I had a period at the end of last year and this. All this is literally out of the blue. I arrived on the last day after Volgograd, caught a cold and every day it got worse and worse. I missed the entire “zone”, arrived at Krugloye and started all over again.
It is clear that everyone is now afraid to get sick, to pass a positive test for covid. Even before the selection, there was such a fear. This is scary. You are getting ready and this can pop out.
If it had not been selected individually, I would have been very upset. The relay is good, but it is important for me to qualify personally, too.You always want to win. It’s good that I managed to do this – I won the tackle on both 200 m and 400 m. good seconds. You don’t really need to think about it. You just need to prepare to show what we are capable of.

Who was chosen: 26.Jacob Pelletier (LW), 88. Ilya Nikolaev (C), 116. Lucas Feuk (LW), 150. Josh Nodler (C), 214. Dustin Wolf (G)
Calgary fans have mixed feelings after a two-day ceremony in British Columbia. On the one hand, Ogonyok’s general manager Brad Treliving drafted good and well-known players, picked up two avenues forgotten by all at once and gave Alberta a real draft with elections in the top hundred. On the other hand, he instantly created a lot of questions about the 26th number of Jacob Pelletier and did not even try to close any of the problematic positions of his team, for the second time in a row, after the main hockey event of the summer, he left a certain feeling of understatement.
Ironically, Everett Silverstrips goalkeeper Dustin Wolf was the most successful Famese acquisition that no fan or expert would want to find fault with, leaving 214 overall with three picks left in the draft. In the 2018/19 season, Wolf saved 93.6% of shots, conceded an average of 1.69 goals and played 61 one game, breaking all of the WHL statistics for a 17-year-old goalkeeper who played at least 28 regular season games. Wolf is one of the five best goalkeepers of the US junior team and has every chance of getting into the best league in the world in five or six years, which, in principle, could help him climb the draft to the middle of the second hundred or even drop into the end of the fourth round.By dropping almost to the level of the baseboard, Dustin finally got rid of the pressure that could have followed him in the early stages of development in adult hockey and made the Calgary leadership a little happier than before. From the 2019 draft, Ogonyok fans expected at least the appearance of elite right-handed strikers in the team and the foundation for a future solution to the goalkeeper’s problem. The choices made by NHL clubs in the last three rounds are usually not to be taken seriously, and in the case of goalkeepers, even the first round cannot guarantee a successful career. They do not bring anything but hope, but Treleiving here at least did everything that was required of him.
The top scorer of the US national team at the Glinka / Getzky Cup in Edmonton and Red Deer Josh Naudelaire, as expected, turned out to be lower than Farinacci, Kaliev, Robertson, Mastrosimone and some other partners in the United States reserve junior team and ended up in Alberta around the time those who remembered about it has scout bureaus from North America. Due to weak play in the USHL during the pre-draft year, the American fell to 150th place, but with the proper attitude to the game and hard work, he has a good chance of making his way to the national team for the 2021 World Youth Championship and playing several hundred matches in the lower ranks of NHL teams somewhere after the 2023/24 season.Under the 116th overwall, Treliving and his assistants drafted the high-speed Swedish striker Lucas Feuk, to whom all the same words apply as to Nodler, but his choice seems even more risky and thoughtless, since the Swede played his entire career in his homeland and impressed scouts only with their statistics in the youth league. The only plus of Feuk is that he does not have a strictly defined favorite position on the ice, so he can be effectively used in any situation and played where reinforcement is urgently needed. But with a whole host of other attacking players in the fourth and fifth rounds, this move seems too dangerous and illogical.
In the Top 100, the Flames had only two opportunities to draft a promising right-handed hitter, and they ended up using none of them. Under the 88th overall number at the end of the third round, the ranks of Calgary avenues were joined by 17-year-old center forward Loko Ilya Nikolaev, who could have safely called himself the main theft of the draft, if immediately after him the second scorer of the 2018 YUCHM and the most gifted Slovakian went to Tampa a forward for the last thousand years according to Maxim Tchaikovich… Maxim Chaikovich. Nikolaev first appeared on the ice of the MHL at the age of 16, and by the beginning of the 2018/19 season he was considered the leader of the Russian junior ice hockey team and the third-strongest Russian forward entering the Vancouver draft after Podkolzin and Guskov. At the updated Glinka Memorial in Canada, Nikolaev tore apart the defense of the Finns and the Americans and shot 7 points for the entire tournament, six of which were received for assists.
In the last MHL regular championship, Ilya scored 10 goals and gave 15 successful passes, after which he helped his club in the elimination matches and, becoming the champion of his league, went to the junior championship of the planet for gold medals. In almost all the fights in the championship, Nikolaev showed a magnificent game and tried to keep up with Amirov and Podkolzin in terms of the number of dangerous moments created. The talented Russian’s performance was not so good this time, but he did a lot of rough work, worked out in defense and did not fall in the ratings of experts as much as his teammates. Overseas, few hoped for the choice of Nikolaev on the first day of the draft, but immediately after the break, he was supposed to get into the best league in the world much earlier than Pyotr Kochetkov and Vladislav Firstov. In the best team in the West, Nikolayev was unlikely to have formed, knowing what position the first draft pick of the CHL-2018 is playing, inherited by Julien Brisbois, who rubbed his hands with happiness, but for the end of the third round he looks just great.
Finally, the main and in fact the only failure of Treliving, because of which “Ogonyki” was in the last place on this list. Shoving Jacob Pelletier into the end of the first round was pretty easy, and compared to the new avenues of Boston and Buffalo, he looks like a real monster that has been a little underestimated.Explaining the appearance of the Canadian in the late twenties is easier than understanding why Tampa needs a bunch of Foote brothers and who Ryan Johnson is, but in the absence of Rafael Lavoie and Artur Kaliev in the top 31, the general manager of the Flames can be scolded or even scolded. Pelletier scored 39 + 50 in 65 games for Moncton in the last QMJHL regular season, finished fourth at the 2019 YUCHM and performed well in the Glinka / Gretzky Cup until he broke his arm. His modest size and complete unpreparedness for the transition to adult hockey could be safely left aside if he played on the right. But Jacob is doomed to run on the left flank of the attack and make his way to the main squad through Johnny Gaudreau, Matthew Tkachak and Andrew Mangipan. Perhaps he will never succeed.
Who was chosen: 25. Connor McMichael (C), 56. Brett Leeson (RW), 91. Alexey Protas (C), 153. Martin Gush (D)
Brian McLellan only had 4 picks in this draft (first, second, third and fifth rounds), and in this scenario, one could assume that he would treat each of them with special attention. It was clear from the outset that the attackers would be Washington’s priority. Ovechkin, Backstrom, Oshi, Eller and Hagelin are already thirty years old, and the champion window for them is rapidly closing, the youngest forward of the club, Jakub Vrana, is already 23 years old, and only 21-year-old Swede Axel Jonsson is ready to replace the “old guard” Fjallby (though he probably never will play in the top 6). The line of defense, in which, after the exchange of Niskanen, of 30+ players, only the unrestricted free agent Brooks Orpik remained after his retirement, looks much fresher and more promising. In addition, in last year’s draft in Dallas, the Capitals general manager spent the first two picks on European defenders: Alexander Alekseev and Martin Fegervara. Together with the leader of the Swiss youth team at the MFM-2017, Jonas Siegenthaler and the still young Kempney, Carlson and Orlov, they are capable of becoming Washington’s most formidable weapon in the 2021/2022 season, so that, if desired, the “Capital” could generally stop their eyes solely on the attacking players.
There are some questions about McLellan’s choice at the end of the first round.London Knights center-forward Connor McMichael has not been ranked twenty-fifth in any expert or scouting bureau rating. Many saw him at the beginning of the second round and called him a good asset for a team that will be able to solve all their pressing problems on the first day of the ceremony. The 18-year-old Canadian striker’s strengths are his excellent reading of the game, agility, ability to find free space and a constant desire to be present at both ends of the court. In the 2018/19 season, McMichael scored 36 goals and 36 assists in the OHL regular season, and then scored 5 points in eleven playoff matches, and in two or three years he may well grow to the base of the Capitals and start playing in one of the lower links. But Connor McMichael is not Connor McDavid, and taking him around the sensationally fallen Arthur Kaliev and Rafael Lavoie, and even before the choice of Pelletier and Suzuki, is a big risk, which many fans of the capital club reacted with distrust. Since the departure of George McPhee, Washington has already selected talented players for the draft 6 times, and only Jakub Vrana has managed to play in the best league in the world on a non-permanent basis, which clearly does not delight the fans of the “Caps” any delight.
However, after a not very successful start, the general manager of the best team in 2018 corrected himself and immediately drafted one of the 2019 MFM participants, who unexpectedly dropped to number 56.Until the age of nineteen, Prince Albert Raiders ‘right-winger Brett Leeson played the fool with almost no performance in the Western Hockey League, but last season he managed to make a colossal breakthrough, lead the WHL scorers’ race and qualify for the Canadian youth team at home which seems like an incredible event considering that CHL heroes who fail in their first draft are not usually called there. After failing in 2017, Leeson wanted a second chance to fulfill his dream, and his five points in five MFM games helped him a lot.2 + 2 in the opening game of the tournament, a puck against the Czech Republic and a super-successful game at the club allowed Brett to count even on a choice at the end of the first round, but in the end he collapsed even lower than Kaliev and Lavoie and instead of becoming twenty-sixth, became fifty-sixth … At the same time, the likelihood of his early debut in the NHL is much higher than that of McMichael.
The managers of Washington decided to spend the remaining picks on reliable players who should at least become the leaders of their national teams at the youth level. The Belarusian forward Aleksey Protas, selected in the third round under the 91st overall number, is Leeson’s teammate, who at the age of 17 was dragging Belarus to the MFM elite division and knocked out 12 + 10 in 23 matches in the WHL playoffs. Czech defender Martin Hash is one of the heroes of the Glinka / Gretzky Cup 2018, who has already been called up to all national teams, except for the adult. With one goal and one assist at the junior world championship in April, Gash became the most hated draft prospect after Vasily Podkolzin and managed to sink from the beginning of the second round to the knights of the fifth. For Washington, he may well be the same theft as Leeson, because surrounded by other defenders from eastern Europe, he will be much more comfortable preparing for the transition to adult hockey than many of his competitors, drafted much higher.
Overall, the Capitals have done a good job and seem to be able to take advantage of several promising avenues at once. It is impossible to predict their further fate, but based on what we see at the moment, it can be assumed that Brian McLellan leaves Vancouver in the status of a winner.
Who was chosen: 4. Bowen Byram (D), 16. Alex Newhook (C), 47. Drew Helleson (D), 63. Matthew Steenburgh (C / RW), 78. Alex Bocage (RW / LW), 140. Sasha Mutala (RW), 171. Luca Burzan (C / RW), 202. Trent Miner (G)
Joe Sakik lost the draft lottery for the second time in three years and, logically, should have become the main loser of the first round. Instead of Jack Hughes and Kaapo Kakko, he had to choose between Turcotte, Byram, Cosens and Dah, which automatically postponed the solution of Colorado’s main problem by at least one year.Avalanches have been looking for a second line center striker for several years now, and after a revamped line of defense forced Avalanche fans to forget about the nightmare that happened in 2016/17, they could seriously consider getting one in the draft.
Jack Hughes, of course, would be an outright gift of fate and the perfect way to get rid of all the difficulties in the attack, but even after his departure to New Jersey, the team from Denver still had very attractive options that allowed Sakik to make a contender out of an outsider overnight.Shortly before the start of the draft ceremony, the most coveted candidate for entry into the Colorado system was second center of the US junior team, Alex Turcotte. But until the general manager of Chicago decided on his choice, it was difficult to count on him. Turcotte was born in Illinois and has long been considered the best center forward in the draft since Hughes, which made him more than likely to be in the top 3. “Blackhawks” really did not change their plans and took away the talented center right after Kaapo Kakko.Only now it was not an American, but a Canadian, and his name was not Alex Turcotte, but Kirby Dah. But this did not affect the decision of the Colorado functionaries.
The fact is that the “Avalanches” finally decided to exchange their leading defender Tyson Barry and even received several solid offers from other clubs for him. It is not yet clear whether Sakik will accept Vancouver’s offer, but the fact that the days of the Canadian hockey player in Denver are already numbered is clear to almost everyone. In such a situation, the club needed to get a defender who could play in the first pair and be useful on both halves of the ice.Such a defender was found in the draft, and it would be a crime to abandon him in favor of an unverified Turcotte. Vancouver Giants player Bowen Byram has been the leader of his team in the WHL regular season all season, became the league’s top scorer in the playoffs and impressed the scouts so much that they now recognize him as completely ready for the NHL and declare him the best defender in the draft. The 18-year-old Canadian has everything to rock in adult hockey and be a regular in the top 4 at any club from Tampa to Ottawa. In addition to the fact that Byram acts competently on the defensive and copes with almost all attacks of opponents, he perfectly feels partners, accelerates attacks, gives passes for a throw and closes combinations near the opponent’s goal. For such a player, the Avalanche can wait a couple more seasons for a steep center, although the sixteenth number of the Vancouver draft, picked by Joe Sakik an hour after Bowen, could end the long saga as early as next year.
The second draft pick of the first round, inherited by “Ews” no longer at the mercy of friends from Ottawa, but at the end of the regular season, nevertheless turned into a striker in the center line, and Nikita Zadorov’s team wants to put a fat plus for him.If, in the case of Byram and Turcotte, any choice of management would most likely have been warmly received by fans and players, in the case of Alex Newhook, it was necessary to think about all the risks and possible consequences much more carefully and carefully. The gigantic responsibility for the choice in the top 31 has not gone away, and there are many more likely must-haves, although only two could really interest “Avalanche” after everything that happened at the beginning of the draft.
The leader of the Canadian junior team, Peyton Krebs, who held two magical international tournaments and climbed high in the ratings due to performances at the club level, was an iron contender for the top 10 in terms of playing characteristics. He, like Podkolzin, was expected to be seen in Buffalo, Edmonton, or at least Vancouver, but an Achilles tendon injury received by Krebs in early June ruined everything. She pushed Ken Holland to draft No. 8 for defenseman Philip Broberg and nearly kicked Peyton himself out of the top 20. Colorado’s managers could have taken the risk of taking him to their infirmary, but instead they opted for a safer choice and kept Alex Newhook, the Maple Leaves’ second scorer at the 2019 UWCM.Newhook skates gorgeous, runs fast, has an amazing wrist throw and makes great feints, beating any opponent from the BCHL at full speed. In the 2018/19 season, he knocked out 102 points in 53 matches in the regular season, scored 24 points in 15 playoff games and shot 5 + 5 in seven games of the junior championship of the planet, scoring even in the most important confrontations when his partners were in the shadow. Alex survived until the sixteenth choice only because the players of his role were not needed by any of the teams with picks from tenth to fifteenth, and it is not surprising that Joe Sakik was ready to tear him off with his hands and feet. After the first day of the draft, the Avalanches were the happiest team in the league, and there was absolutely no catch.
For the next six rounds, the Avalanches simply had to recruit players in the hope that one of them could shoot, and, aside from one of the choices in the third round, they did their job quite easily. Under the 47th overwall, an intelligent defender-couch potato from the USNTDP Drew Helesson was taken, who scored three points at the last JWC in Sweden, in the middle of the third round the elite Canadian striker from QMJHL Alex Bocage became the player of the Colorado system, the winner of the previous year left at number 140 Glikney / Gretzky Cup Sasha Mutala, and in the last two rounds Sakik drafted two more Canadians, one of whom turned out to be the goalkeeper. All of this was expected, reliable, and not very original (although the absence of Europeans in the final list of new Evs avenues is a little alarming).
The only time Denver fans probably wanted to run around the apartment and smash dishes was at the very beginning of round number 3 due to the fact that their franchise was strengthened by a player named Matthew Steenburgh, who played at some Canadian university and was considered a hockey player , worthy of the attention of the NHL teams, only according to one of the seven ratings (and there he was put on the “honorable” 215th place). But this minor episode is unlikely to spoil their impression of the whole ceremony, which gave the middle peasants of the Central Division the most powerful core around which to build a champion team.
New York Rangers
Who was chosen: 2. Kaapo Kakko (RW), 49. Matthew Robertson (D), 58. Karl Henriksson (C), 68. Zachary Jones (D), 112. Hunter Skinner (D), 130. Leevi Aaltonen (RW / LW), 161. Adam Edström (C), 205. Eric Ciccolini (RW)
A team from the most prestigious city in the United States returns to the playoff battle. The restructuring that began after the failure in the 2017/18 season could be completed in a few weeks, if the best free agent of the current offseason, Artemy Panarin, descends before the signing of the contract with the Rangers, but Jeff Gorton and David Quinn may begin to prepare for the long 2019/20 season already now. Having collected a string bag of young defenders last year, luring American student Adam Fox to themselves, and finally bargaining for Jacob Trumpet from Winnipeg, the Blueshirts completely redrawn their defenses and made them as deep and efficient as possible. The conditions of New York’s attacking triplets still leave much to be desired, but with the recently drafted Andersson, Hetila and Kravtsov, the coaching staff can still mold four strong links from them and return those sweet times when the Rangers were considered the most stable contenders for the Stanley Cup in the entire America.
Of course, Kaapo Kakko, No. 2 of the 2019 draft, will also play an important role in the comeback between Namestnikov and Georgiev. After his triumph at the Senior World Cup, Kakko became a global star, revived the intrigue killed by Jack Hughes about a year before the draft, and assured us all that he plays just as well as Patrick Laine.Next season, the Finn must score at least 50 points for performance, pump Pavel Buchnevich and bring the playoffs to Madison Square Garden, and in the future he will certainly do everything to ensure that Henrik Lundqvist does not end his career in the swamp … Choosing Kaapo Kakko was especially easy and pleasant for Jeff Gorton because, as he took the stage in Vancouver, he knew that he would receive a new leader and savior of the franchise, who could not be replaced by any of the available avenues left in the draft after Hughes left.He had no alternative, and never will. Therefore, when assessing the actions of the Rangers general manager in the draft, all his body movements on the first day of the ceremony can be safely omitted.
It was much more interesting to look at the elections of “Blueshirts” after Kakko. At the beginning of the second round, almost all teams took those players who, in their opinion, were unfairly rolled past the top 30. By the 49th number, there were almost no such in the public domain, however, Gorton still managed to find a defender who deserved to be in the top 40, and sent him to his club’s system, despite the fact that there are already so many gifted hockey players there.Edmonton Oil Kings’ assistant captain Matthew Robertson has long been in the ratings compiled by various scout bureaus, on the border between the first and second rounds, and his sharp drop in the middle of the first hundred is difficult to explain. In the WHL, he averaged 0.6 points per game, gave a lot of assists and stood out for his ability to move the puck, while quickly finding a common language with any partners. In international tournaments, Robertson played 10 matches, scored 2 goals and chalked up 4 assists, which is already one point more than Bowen Byram, who played for the Canadian national team at the same time and in the same places.Matthew will probably not become a Rangers superstar, but in 3-4 years we may well see him in the third pair of New York defenses if he passes the toughest selection and leaves behind Miller, Lundqvist, Gross and other top avenues in favor of the farm -clubs.
Another reason to rejoice for David Quinn and his charges is the choice of the forward of the first link of the Swedish junior national team Karl Henriksson under the 58th overwall. The center forward of Frölunda throughout the 2018/19 season progressed rapidly and went from a youth league rookie to an adult championship player, simultaneously earning world recognition in junior hockey and becoming the world champion at home YWCHM with nine points in seven fights. In the near future, he is not going to leave for North America, and because of this, NHL experts did not advise taking him before the third round. In the next two years, Henriksson should finally get stronger, gain experience and dust on two youth world championships, after which he can be taken, for example, in the AHL, from where it will be much easier for him to reach the guys from Broadway and make his debut in the best league in the world with the same great partners like Lucas Raymond and Alexander Holtz.
The election of Zachary Jones and Hunter Skinner, we probably will not discuss. One of them left exactly when it was necessary, and the second somehow mysteriously got into the draft and rose on it from the seventh round to the fourth. Both of these hockey players are defenders, so the main team will most likely never wait for them, and Rangers fans should forget about Skinner’s choice, because for the moment he looks like an outright mistake. When he, like Samuel Blaze, breaks into the roster and wins the Stanley Cup, it will be possible to remember him and say that we were all wrong, but now it is better to stop at the man whose fall before the fifth round looks like a real theft.
Leevi Aaltonen is the fourth and at the same time the main reason why the “Rangers” were in third place in this strange and useless ranking. The leader of the junior national team of Finland, world champion among juniors and simply gifted striker Kaipy, according to the most conservative estimates of the scouts, should have fallen to 115th place only due to the fact that many general managers were not satisfied with his size. A year ago, Aaltonen scored the first goal of the junior world championship in Russia, played an amazing game against the Slovak national team, still staying with Anton Lundell, who scored 4 points, and calmed down until the end of the tournament. After that, he scored two assists in the Glinka / Gretzky Cup and accompanied his most famous partner to the victorious World Youth Championship for Suomi. Reuniting with Lundell at the 2019 YUCHM, Leevi was supposed to start tearing and throwing in every match, but in the end he only took part in the defeat of the Swiss national team with a score of 12: 0 and twice had a hand in an unsuccessful return to the game in the third period of the fight with Belarus. Now 18-year-old Aaltonen is still considered a great playmaker, has great speed and has enough strength to surpass Ville Mescanen and Vinnie Lettieri.Personally, I will be very happy to see him make his debut in the best league in the world and hope that he will happen as soon as possible.
In the last and penultimate rounds, the Rangers managers also had draft picks, and they decided to spend them on two players in the attack line. Probably no one will seriously criticize the elections at the end of the second hundred, because they are usually conditioned by the advice of the most authoritative scouts of the club, who came to look at some star and noticed an underestimated genius among her partners.Adam Edström is a little-known SHL wagon who has played 15 matches with senior men, and Eric Ciccolini is a Canadian winger and ninth scorer of the OJHL, who will be studying at the University of Michigan from next year. In theory, they should have been swapped, but who cares about the fate of the players drafted in the seventh round right now? New York has Aaltonen, Henriksson, Robertson and Kakko, and let the whole world wait.
Los Angeles Kings
Who was chosen: 5.Alex Turcott (C), 22. Tobias Bjornfoot (D), 33. Artur Kaliev (RW / LW), 50. Samuel Fagemo (LW / RW), 87. Lukas Parzhik (G), 94. Jordan Spence (D), 119. Kim Nousiainen (D), 157. Braden Doyle (D), 188. André Lee (C / LW)
In short, Rob Blake made the Royal Draft, hitting the spot with just about every one of his first six picks in his starting four rounds. The last three Kings recruits are unlikely to ever get in the spotlight on hockey rinks (although Kim Nousiainen has an abandoned puck at the World Cup, three Spengler Cup matches and even his own Sports profile.ru), so that they can be safely taken out of the brackets and enjoy the work done on all other peaks.
According to the results of the merged 2018/19 season, Los Angeles took the last place in the West and became the thirtieth team in the league, having received a good chance of winning the draft lottery in the event of another failure of Ottawa / Colorado, but at the most inopportune moment, luck again turned away from the last owners Stanley Cup from the Pacific Division, and they had to drop as much as three positions down, leaving Ottawa, Chicago, Rangers and New Jersey ahead. It was painful and unpleasant to have a fifth pick in the draft, where after Hughes, Kakko, Byram and Turcotte there were no guaranteed franchises, it was painful and unpleasant, but an incredible coincidence of circumstances for which Stan Bowman, for some unknown reason, became interested in the possible heir of Ryan Getzlaf, who was considered an exact copy of Dylan Storm , led the “Kings” to success.
According to the plan long outlined by the fans of the Californian team, their general manager, having two choices in the top thirty at once, had to get a powerful center and a reliable attacking defender for himself. The most tidbit in this situation would have been the Canadian hockey player Bowen Byram, who had fallen to fifth place, but against the background of rumors spreading about the exchange of Tyson Barry to Vancouver, hope for him became less and less every day. Dylan Cosens, Trevor Zegras and Kirby Dach were considered the main targets for attackers. Dach fit perfectly into Blake’s ideas about the ideal forward, Zegras could stir up any LA veteran and make him “great again”, and Cosens in the foreseeable future was able to close two problem positions in the front line of the Kings, but neither of them could not give the future any guarantees regarding his career in adult hockey. Therefore, after the fall of Alex Turcott, who was not praised only by the lazy before the draft, it could take no more than one minute to make the final decision.
Having dealt with the name of the next competitor of Aquil Thomas, Jareth Anderson-Dolan, Rasmus Kupari and Gabriel Vilardi for a place in the center of the second link of the new champion team, the Los Angeles functionaries went in search of defense players, and here they again somehow miraculously managed to drop into a wave of adequate elections and draft the last hockey player who left in the first round according to almost all scout forecasts. The captain of the “gold” squad of the Swedish national team U18 Tobias Bjornfoot has never been as famous and publicized as Söderström or Broberg, but in the last three international tournaments he showed phenomenal defensive play and sometimes even outshined his star partners, becoming for a short time the most prominent defender as part of Tre Krunur. Bjornfoot is not particularly impressive with his performance in the adult championship in Sweden, but at the youth level he often joined attacks and more than once started assists with his long passes. In the future, he may grow into a good couch potato for the second pair, and given the fact that not every drafted player manages to get into the meat grinder called “NHL”, Los Angeles will be quite enough.
There were basically just two intrigues in the second round of the 2019 draft. The first is whether Eugene Melnick will continue to drown his team and force Pierre Dorion to make the most unnatural decisions. The second is how long will Artur Kaliev and Rafael Lavoie sit without a club in the NHL.It was the second question that the Kings general manager decided to close as soon as possible, choosing a new player at number 33 immediately after Ottawa drafted little-known American from USHL Shane Pinto.
Artur Kaliev was born in Uzbekistan, has US citizenship and plays hockey for the Canadian team from the Ontario Junior League. Already at the age of 16, he regularly scored points in the OHL and dragged the Hamilton Bulldogs to the championship, receiving flattering reviews from all local coaches. In the 2018/19 season, Kaliev scored 51 goals, gave 51 assists, got into the second symbolic national team of the league and acquired the status of the second draft sniper after Col Kauffield.Due to flaws in technique and weak defensive play, Arthur often dropped in mocks below the 20th position, but at the same time, American experts unanimously stated that next to a strong center striker he could turn into a real monster and would break the best league in the world no worse Prime Patrick Laine. After the first day of the draft, Kaliev, who after so many accolades was called rewritten, was thrown out of the top 31 and instead of getting into Tampa or St. Louis was doomed to survive in Ottawa or Detroit, was perhaps one of the most unfortunate participants in the Vancouver coven, and well that Los Angeles did not torture the seventeen-year-old junior and gave him a ticket to California in time.If in the near future Arthur does not suffer the fate of Gabriel Vilardi, this ticket will be a lucky one for the “Monarchs”.
As for Blake’s other three attempts to find a superstar in the first hundred, they can also be considered very successful and even somewhat safe. Czech goalkeeper Lukas Parzyk was the third in the ranking of goalkeepers from the Central Scout Bureau, and with his help the Los Angeles authorities pretended to solve the goalkeeper problem that is gaining relevance due to the aging of Jonathan Quick. The overgrown Swede Samuel Fagemo is an excellent reinforcement for the Kings farm club in the AHL and a possible candidate for a place in the third link of the attack after the retirement of all the old leaders of the franchise. At the 2019 MFM, he scored only one point and disappeared among the completely gray and nondescript attack of Thomas Monten, but 10 points in eleven matches of the Champions Hockey League, 25 points in the debut season in SHL and 5 goals at the Glinka Memorial in 2017 speak for myself. The 94th draft pick Canadian defender Jordan Spence also did not perform well on the world stage and did not make it to the medals of the YUCHM-2019, but he managed to score 49 points in 68 regular season meetings in the Quebec Junior League and become the best newcomer to QMJHL ( if anything, in 2017 and 2018 this title was received by Nico Khishir and Alexis Lafrenier, and 15 years ago it went to Sidney Crosby himself).
All the prospectuses that Rob Blake drafted in the top 100 in the 2019 draft have a good chance of success in the best league in the world, and the Kings could easily become the most successful and ambitious team at the end of the two-day ceremony of singling out young talents, if not picks spent at the same time by the general manager of one of the best clubs in the last Stanley Cup.
Who was chosen: 28.Ryan Suzuki (C), 36. Pyotr Kochetkov (G), 44. Jamison Rees (C), 73. Patrick Puistola (RW), 83. Anthony Honka (D), 90. Domenik Fensor (D), 99. Caid Webber (D), 121. Tuukka Tiexola (RW), 152. Cyril the Blind (RW), 181. Kevin Wall (RW), 183. Blake Murray (C), 216. Massimo Rizzo (C)
Recently, all and sundry have called the Hurricanes “a bunch of idiots”, imitating Don Cherry and ignoring all the facts that refute this statement as unequivocally as the two principles of thermodynamics refute the possibility of creating a perpetual motion machine. At the end of last week, Don Waddell once again reminded many of the sensational story of the post-match celebrations of Carolina and did everything possible to ensure that there are no more people in the world who take the statement of the most scandalous hockey expert of the 21st century seriously.
Especially for those who are tired of reading huge ABCs of incomprehensible text, here is a brief description of each of the players who became part of the “Hurricanes” after their selection in the last draft. Now you will understand why the fans of the club have every reason to consider this trip for fresh hockey blood truly legendary.
Ryan Suzuki. Brother of Montreal striker Nick Suzuki, who could not follow the example of Nolan Foote and was reunited only with his former Barry Colts partner Andrei Svechnikov. After twenty-five goals and fifty assists in the regular season of the OHL, Ryan made it to the top 30 available players in all seven leading scout ratings. At last year’s Glinka / Gretzky Cup, the Canadian center became the tournament’s best assistant and showed Trevor Zegras how the best playmaker and passer of the draft should be.Having torn apart the defenses of Switzerland, Sweden, the United States and Slovakia along with Alexis Lafrenier, Suzuki received a call to the YChM-2019 and, I want to believe, played it back with an injury. According to the results of five fights, the Canadian has only one point for performance and not a single memorable action, be it a dangerous throw, a timely interception, a beautiful pass or just an impressive acceleration.
Pyotr Kochetkov. The best goalkeeper of the MFM-2019, the former goalkeeper of Sochi and the future hope of the St. Petersburg SKA at least for the 2019/20 season. The fantastical rescues of the Ak Bars pupil during the New Year holidays were followed throughout the civilized world, therefore, if at the beginning of January you at least once turned on hockey broadcasts with Russian commentators, his name will surely seem familiar to you. A few weeks ago, the Central Scout Bureau named Kochetkov the best European goalkeeper in the draft, and his final position in the second round did not embarrass even such Russophobes as Eugene Melnik. Peter, of course, did not manage to compete with Spencer Knight for a place in Florida, but becoming the second among the player in his role, being at the same time two years older than the others, is also very, very prestigious.
Jameson Fig. Another Canadian center hoping to get into the NHL somewhere on the border between the first and second rounds. Last season, Rees scored 32 points in 37 games for Sarnia Sting, won gold in the Glinka / Gretzky Cup and became a real revelation of the junior championship of the planet, shooting 2 + 6 in seven meetings of the group stage and playoffs. In terms of his strengths and skills, Jamison is very similar to Ryan Suzuki, but his game places a much greater emphasis on doing the rough work and moving on the ice without the puck.Rhys most likely will not become a franchise player, but he is quite capable of making some noise in the lower ranks of the NHL team.
Patrick Puistola. Finnish sniper who scores more than one point per game in the second-strongest division of the Finnish Championship. He was the most productive striker in the last two tournaments of the junior national team “Suomi” with Lundell and Aaltonen alive, scored 5 goals at the YUCHM-2019 and scored 6 points at the Glinka / Gretzky Cup. Next season, Patrick will surely become a member of the Finnish “youth team” and will light up at the youth world championship with Niklas Nordgren.Their bunch at a tournament in the Czech Republic can become a real sensation for the world hockey community.
Anthony Honka. Another packmover, one of the most prominent representatives of the new generation of Finnish titans. By the age of eighteen, he achieved victory in the Champions League and two gold medals at the World Championships (U-18 and U-20). He has 47 matches and 17 points on the “goal + pass” system in the Finnish championship. At the beginning of the year, Honka was quoted as high as Lass Thomson or Ville Henola, but towards the spring his shares began to fall rapidly and as a result, he did not even enter the second round of the draft, losing the competition to Nikita Aleksandrov and Nikita Okhotyuk.
Domenic Fensor. The third defender of the USNTDP after Cam York and Case McCarthy, who is trusted to realize the numerical advantage in the American superteam. Scored 26 points in 25 USHL appearances and knocked out 6 + 36 in 55 matches against the 17-year-olds. In the draft, Fensor was quoted extremely low due to his modest size, but after the YChM-2019 (in which Domenik constantly accelerated the attacks of the “Stars and Stripes” and scored 4 points, giving 4 successful passes) it was almost impossible to imagine him outside the first hundred.
Tuukka Tieksola. Champion, Best Assistant and Best Newcomer in the Finnish Youth League 2018/19. At the last World Junior Championships, he scored 4 points and almost saved the Finnish national team from defeat in a match with Belarusians. Tieksola recently signed a three-year contract with Kärpät, which he will most likely have to fully work out. Tuukka is now one of the top 10 Finnish strikers born in 2001, and his fourth round pick looks absolutely deserved.
Kirill the Blind. The most formidable and unpredictable striker of the Russian national team at the World Youth Championships in Vancouver. Two years ago, the Khabarovsk resident scored a very important goal in the minority against the US national team at the 2017 UCCH group stage, after which, for some unknown reason, he was rolled past a frankly weak draft. At the end of 2018 and at the beginning of 2019, he became a key figure in Valery Bragin’s team, terrifying the special teams of the majority of the Canadian youth team, scoring three goals against the Swiss and helping the Russians win bronze medals in the tournament for players under 20 years old.Returning to Vancouver as a young prospect, Blind fell again in the draft until round five, after which Carolina was solemnly picked up, forcing all the other managers to bite their elbows and bang their heads against the wall.
Caid Webber, Kevin Wall, Blake Murray and Massimo Rizzo (not to be confused with Shea Weber, Joseph Wall, Blake Wheeler and Massimo Carrera). The nouns that the cunning Waddell drafted in order to raise the self-esteem of the rest of the teams and give them a chance to fight for the Stanley Cup in the next decade.
Perhaps in a few years you will open this post (no) and realize that each of the six teams represented in it screwed up massively. Neither scouts, nor experts, nor general managers, nor even the owner of the most beautiful jacket on Canadian television and the main clown of the league according to Evgeny Kuznetsov, Don Cherry, are able to predict the fate of the drafted prospectuses. But right now, it is the fans of Washington, Calgary, Rangers, Los Angeles, Colorado and the Carolina who must look to a bright future with a little more optimism than everyone else. After 3 days, the second stage of a stormy offseason starts in the NHL, and others will replace some heroes. But free agents suddenly appear and disappear rapidly, and the memory of the draft will live on until the last player who made his childhood dream come true and became a part of a new big game with the help of the draft will not hang their rusted skates on a nail.
90,000 US police review the cases of Ahmad Arbury, Breona Taylor and others
Four months after the murder of African American Ahmad Arbury, the police brought charges against three men.The victim’s family believes that this is a step in the right direction. Now US residents are demanding law enforcement to review other cases of African Americans killed by the police.
According to the BBC, a Georgia court indicted Travis McMichael, his son Greg and William Brian in an aggravated assault and attempted illegal imprisonment of 25-year-old African American Ahmad Arbury.
The incident happened on February 23rd. Initially, the police did not file any charges against the men. After a video of the murder of Ahmad surfaced on the Internet on May 5, law enforcement agencies began an investigation.
Ahmad Arbury went for a run when 64-year-old Gregory McMichael and 34-year-old Travis, armed with a pistol and a shotgun, chased him in their car. At some point, the McMicheles overtook Ahmad. They stopped in the middle of the road and waited for the guy to reach them. When Arbury caught up with the men, a fight broke out between him and the younger McMichael. Soon shots were heard and the mortally wounded Ahmad fell to the asphalt.
So if this video of Travis McMichael killing Ahmad Arbury hadn’t come out, the DA would never have taken it to a grand trial? Thus, a black person can now add jogging to the “Things You Can’t Do If You Are Black” list. # AhmadArbery # JusticeForAhmaudArbery
The video was captured by William Brion from his car as he drove behind Arbury. His lawyer claims that he was not an accomplice in the crime, but was only a witness.
When testifying to the police, Gregory McMichael stated that the victim looked like a man suspected of a series of burglaries. This allegedly became the reason for the persecution.
Ahmad’s mother reacted to the news of the announcement of the charges. She said she believed that “things are moving in the right direction.”
“This is another positive step, another big step in finding justice for Ahmad, in finding justice for this family and society beyond,” District Attorney Joyette Holmes said Wednesday.
More than two million signatures
In the wake of protests over the death of George Floyd and stories similar to the one that happened to Ahmad, other cases began to surface. So, in social networks they demanded to start an independent investigation into the death of 23-year-old African American Elijah McClain in 2019. After a petition calling for a new investigation, gathered more than two million signatures, the case got off the ground.
Gov. Jared Polis has announced that his administration will review the case, according to CNN reports. He promised that the process would be fair and objective.
Elijah McClain was walking home from a convenience store on 24 August 2019 when he was stopped by three white police officers. They decided to detain him after they received a 911 call describing the guy as “a suspicious person.” The report on his detention stated that McClain showed resistance during the arrest and a fight ensued. However, the videos show the opposite.
Elijah McClain’s story is so heartbreaking, it’s the man who spent his lunch break playing violin for stray kittens to calm them down, the last words he shouted that he would never harm a fly and was considered suspicious of – for wearing a ski mask that helped with his anemia.
In one of the videos, McClain is heard saying, “I’m an introvert, please respect the boundaries I’m talking about.” It is also heard that he tried to explain to the officers that he just wants to turn off the music in the headphones in order to hear them. A moment later, they are already trying to arrest Elijah.
At some point, one of the officers told McClane that he would let his dog down on him. During the arrest, the guy was put on the ground and a strangulation was applied to him. Because of this, he briefly lost consciousness.According to the police report, when the guy came to his senses, he allegedly began to fight again. Because of this, when paramedics arrived, Elijah was injected with ketamine to calm her down. However, his dose was too large. McClain suffered a heart attack while in an ambulance and died three days later. The autopsy did not determine the cause of death, but listed vigorous exercise and a narrow left coronary artery as contributing factors to death.
Dave Young, District Attorney for Adams County, declined to open a criminal case at the time. The participants in this case were sent on administrative leave after McClain’s death, but were later reinstated after prosecutors refused to press charges against them. An independent investigation into this case is now planned.
McClain family lawyer Marie Newman called on officials to press charges against the officers.
Another high-profile story was the murder of Breona Taylor. From the very beginning of the protests in the United States, people have been demanding to punish the police who killed her, but this has not happened yet.The girl was shot dead on March 13 in her own apartment, BBC reports.
Police suspected that Taylor’s apartment was being used to obtain drugs by a gang located at a different address, 16 kilometers from her home. One of the suspects was her ex-boyfriend. Taylor herself was not a suspect.
Shortly after midnight on March 13, Police Officer Brett Hankinson, along with Officers John Mattingly and Miles Cosgrove, broke into Breona Taylor’s apartment without warning. They had a warrant in their hands allowing them to enter the house without the permission of the owners. Police said they knocked before using the ram to enter the house. However, these words are disputed by the Breona family and her neighbor.
Breona and her partner Kenneth Walker were asleep when the noise started. Walker was in possession of a licensed weapon and, upon hearing the noise, assumed it was a robbery. He immediately called 911, and then he had a shootout with the police. The officers said they only started shooting after Walker wounded one of them.During this shootout, Hankinson fired eight bullets into Breona Taylor’s body. She died on the floor in the hallway. Walker surrendered and was arrested on charges of attempted murder of a police officer. No drugs were found in her apartment.
The Taylor family filed a lawsuit, accusing officers of beatings, wrongful death, use of excessive force and gross negligence. The lawsuit also says the officers were not looking for her or her partner, but for a suspect who did not live in the complex. Hankinson was also accused of “blind” shooting, demonstrating “extreme indifference to the value of human life.”
According to CNN, three months after the death of his girlfriend, Brett Hankinson was fired from the police. The Taylor family’s lawyers have said they want other officers to be fired as well. They are also awaiting prosecution of all those involved in the death of the girl.
Protest names: four stories that rocked the United States

One of the slogans of protesters in the United States – “Without justice, there will be no tranquility”
After months of protests in the United States in late May over the death of George Floyd, the American public and the media are closely following incidents of racial and police violence against blacks.Just this week, two cases were publicized: in Los Angeles, police shot and killed a 29-year-old black man on a bicycle, and in Rochester, New York, 41-year-old Daniel Prude died of suffocation during detention. The second incident happened back in March, but it became known about it only now.
The protesters demand both fairness in the investigation of these incidents and the reform of the existing police system as a whole.
We have collected several stories where the names of the victims have become household names in the current protest for the rights of blacks.

Mural with Breona Taylor’s portrait at a sports field in Annapolis, Maryland. Murals and graffiti with her portrait appear all over the country
The Breonna Taylor case is one of the most talked about in the United States, and her name and hashtag #SayHerName (“Say her name”) have become, along with George Floyd, the main symbols of the American protest.
Former US First Lady Michelle Obama and Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris mentioned her in their speeches.Beyoncé and singer Weeknd called for the prosecution of the police involved in Breonna’s death. The portrait of the girl appeared on the cover of the September issues of the glossy magazines Vanity Fair and The Oprah Magazine – the publication of the cult American TV presenter Oprah Winfrey, who also paid for several billboards with photos of Breonna in her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. Graffiti with Breonna’s silhouette and hashtags appear on the streets of many American cities. NBA and WNBA (Women’s Basketball League) players come out to play with #SayHerName T-shirts on the chest – and Black Lives Matter on the back.
The Taylor case has even turned into a meme on social media. It works like this: the second part is added to any proposal – a call for the arrest of police officers involved in the death of an African American, for example: “Eat some more of these soft French rolls – today is a great day to arrest the cops who killed Breonne Taylor.”
26-year-old Breonna Taylor was killed by police bullets in her apartment in Louisville on the night of March 14 this year. The circumstances of her death, in contrast to the death of George Floyd, captured by several cameras at once, are still not completely clear.
Last weekend’s New York Times investigative story is based on testimonies from friends and acquaintances of the deceased girl, interviews with government officials, police reports, evidence logs and transcripts of prison calls. As the authors of the article point out, the Louisville city police at the same time refused to comment on the circumstances of Taylor’s death in any way, citing an ongoing investigation.
On the evening of March 13, after four straight night paramedic shifts, Breonne Taylor met her boyfriend Kenneth Walker – the couple had dinner and went to Breonne’s house to watch a movie.According to Walker, the girl fell asleep a little after midnight. The police broke into the apartment shortly thereafter. The police officers who broke down the door claim they knocked and warned of their arrival. Most of the neighbors interviewed by NYT say they did not hear the warning shouts of “Police!” – only one of the neighbors says that he heard him only – and he emphasizes this – once.
Kenneth Walker, fearing that Breonna’s ex-boyfriend, previously convicted of drug trafficking, had broken into the apartment, fired a registered weapon. The police fired back. One of the officers, who remained outside, started blindfire at the windows and balcony of the house. Breonne Taylor bled to death on the floor of her apartment after being hit by five bullets. After that night, the girl’s dwelling looked like a sieve – bullets pierced the soap dish in the bathroom, a chair and a table, shattered the glass door.
The reasons for the police raid also remain unclear. It is known that her long-standing relationship with 30-year-old Jamarcus Glover, convicted in 2008 and 2014 for drug trafficking, and arrested again in January of this year, led the police to the house of Breonna Taylor.Although Taylor broke off relations with Glover a month before her death, police believed that evidence against him might be stored in her house. According to Sam Aguiar, a lawyer for the Taylor family, the police never found any money or drugs in Breona’s apartment. This week, Jamarcus Glover said that after the death of the girl, the prosecution offered him a deal if he claims that she was involved in the drug trade.
Human rights defenders, lawyers and activists admit that her relationship with the dealer and their impact on this case should not be ignored, but still doubt that the shooting at Breona’s apartment by the police was justified. In their opinion, it was the police who made several fatal mistakes: starting with the fact that the police did not know how to properly identify themselves before entering the apartment (the police deny this), and ending with the fact that, contrary to protocol, the ambulance car left Breonna’s house for an hour before the start of the raid.
Three of the officers involved in the deadly shooting have been suspended without loss of salary. Only one, the one who fired from the street, was fired. None of them face criminal prosecution. The local police chief was dismissed. After protests in Louisville, where the windows of most administrative buildings and some businesses are still boarded up, the city authorities passed the “Breonne Act” prohibiting police from breaking into premises without knocking or warning.
But many do not consider these measures sufficient.

Elijah McClain passed away in August last year. His case received national publicity only this summer
Elijah McClain died in Aurora, Colorado last August, but his case did not come to the fore in national controversy until after George Floyd’s death and the protests it sparked.
23-year-old McClain worked as a massage therapist, he himself learned to play the guitar and violin and during lunch breaks, as the local newspaper Sentinel Colorado writes, referring to the stories of his loved ones, he often went to play at the local animal shelter, believing that music was abandoned cats and dogs become less anxious.
On the evening of August 24, 2019, the young man, according to his family, was returning home from the store at a gas station, where he went to get a drink for his younger brother, and listened to music on his headphones on the way.Elijah was unarmed and did not commit any crime when the police, who came to the call because of his “suspicious appearance”, tried to detain him. The “suspicious appearance” meant a ski balaclava – the family of the deceased explains that McClain suffered from anemia and was often cold, so he wore a head covering that covered his face – and waving his arms while walking.
Police say McClain resisted arrest because one of the officers knocked him to the ground and used a chokehold.
When the young man began to choke, the police called an ambulance. When the paramedics arrived, they injected McClain with 500mg of ketamine, a strong dissociative substance used in medicine, in particular for anesthesia. In the ambulance on the way to the hospital, the young man’s heart stopped. A few days later, he died in the hospital without regaining consciousness.
The police officers who detained McClane were first acquitted, but soon one of them was fired, another one quit himself – not because of accusations of excessive use of force, but because of a photograph taken at the memorial to the deceased. In the photo, one of the police officers holds his arms around the neck of the other, imitating a choke hold, both smiling.
There are several issues with the death of Elijah McClain. Firstly, the recordings of portable video recorders on the police uniforms do not give a complete picture of what happened – they almost immediately ended up on the ground (the police claim that they fell during an arrest attempt). Second, the use of ketamine (currently under investigation by the state health department). Thirdly, the unfinished forensic examination, on which the police exoneration was based, and which was never able to determine the cause of death of the 23-year-old boy, or even indicate what role the police stranglehold and the use of a dissociative substance played in it.
The case is currently being dealt with by the state attorney, and the McClain family has filed a civil lawsuit against the city of Aurora alleging that “the anti-constitutional actions on the night of August 24, 2019 are part of a larger tradition, politics and practice of racism and violence.”

After the death of Ahmad “Mada” Arbury, many runners began to dedicate their runs to him under the hashtag #IRunWithMaud – “I run with Mad” Ahmad
“Mud” Arbury did not die at the hands of active police officers, but his case is lacking in racial brutality and police negligence.
25-year-old Arbury was shot dead on the afternoon of February 23 this year while jogging in Brunswick, Georgia. Two men, 64-year-old former police officer Gregory McMichael and his 34-year-old son Travis, chased a black man with guns in their car, thinking he looked like a possible member of a recent robbery in their area.
When the police arrived at the scene of the death of Arbury, they took statements from the men and released them. The mother of the deceased was informed that her son was involved in the robbery and was killed by the “owner of the house.”
For several months, the matter did not move. The suspects were arrested only in early May, after the release of a video showing the fatal shot – a video that even President Donald Trump called “disturbing” and his rival in the upcoming elections Joe Biden described as “lynching before our very eyes.” Father and son McMichael were charged with assault and murder.
Critics say that the assassination of Ahmad Arbury, in addition to racism and brutality, reveals another symptom of the American justice system – covering up “insiders.”For several months, the case passed from hand to hand – it was led by people who, due to a conflict of interest, should not have been involved in it from the very beginning, admits the state attorney, who undertook to investigate the case in May. Six months before Arbury’s assassination, in a jury report on the state of affairs in the county police, a local official wrote that she suffers from a “culture of nepotism”, “outdated attitudes” and “lack of adequate training” of officers.
The murder of a black man while jogging caused an outcry among Americans and spawned the hashtag #IRunWithMaud – “I run with Mad”, under which many people of different cultures and colors devote their daily races to the deceased.

The case of the murder of Vanessa Guillain at an American military base is also required to be completed
The death of Private Vanessa Guillain, a Hispanic woman, led to the emergence of its own branch of the movement #MeToo in the US Army.
20-year-old Guillain, the daughter of Mexican immigrants, who dreamed of a military career since childhood, disappeared at the Fort Hood base in Texas on April 22 this year. Only in early June, the army command, under pressure from the Guillain family, officials, celebrities and the press, admitted that Vanessa had died at the hands of another soldier, 20-year-old Aaron Robins. Her remains were found at the end of the same month.
According to the investigators, Robins, who worked in a building next to Guillain, killed her on the evening of April 22, after which he hid her body in a large box, and later wanted to get rid of him together with his friend – they dismembered Guillain’s body and tried to burn it.
When they tried to arrest Robins, he committed suicide. Only his girlfriend, Cecilia Aguilar, was charged with conspiracy to get rid of evidence. She is a civilian and faces up to 20 years in prison.
The case is aggravated by the fact that shortly before her death, Guillain complained to her relatives about sexual harassment at the base, but did not dare to file a formal complaint, her family claims.
Not only the murder of Guillain, her racial origin, but also the fact of possible harassment attracted public attention. Contrary to the assurances of the command that the murder of Guillain is being investigated with the utmost care, as are the statements of harassment, many have accused the army of trying to hush up the case and again distract attention from systematic sexual harassment in the American military.
Many former female military personnel have begun tweeting their experiences of violence in the military under the hashtags #JusticeToVanessaGuillen and #IAmVanessaGuillen.
Later, the family of the deceased announced the preparation of the “Vanessa Guillain Law”, which would allow women soldiers who faced harassment during their service to contact the agency investigating such crimes, not the higher command.

Tony McDade, a black transgender man from Tallahassee, Florida, and Nina Pop, a transgender woman from Sikeston, Missouri, victims of racial and police violence
American police kill about 1000 people each year.Mapping Police Violence, a human rights group that collects data on police brutality in the United States, claims that in 2020, only 12 days passed without a single police kill. According to statistics compiled by researchers, a black American is three times more likely to be killed by the police than a white. And he is almost one and a half times less likely to have a weapon with him. In 99% of cases, the police go unpunished.
But Black Lives Matter protesters talk not only about police violence, but other forms of racial violence as well.
Transgender people and people with non-binary gender identities remain one of the most vulnerable groups among the black population, according to some human rights activists. Among them, black trans women suffer the most from violence that combines racial hatred and transphobia.
Among African American rights activists there is a separate faction fighting for the rights of black transgender people – Black Trans Lives Matter.
The Human Rights Campaign has counted 26 murders of black transgender people in the United States in the first half of 2020, up from 27 in all of 2019.Human rights activists point out that there may be even more of them: not all stories get into the press, and the police and media often misidentify the gender of the victims. HRC notes that in many states, even where transgender rights are protected by law, attacking such people is not considered hate violence.

The Boat Race is a side-by-side rowing competition between the University of Oxford (sometimes called the “Dark Blues”) and the University of Cambridge (sometimes called the “Light Blues”).The race was first held in 1829 and takes place on the River Thames in southwest London. There were no races between the two universities in 1837 or 1838; instead, Cambridge raced against the Leander Club in those years. The umpires for the race were CB Wollaston (Oxford) and CJ Selwyn (Cambridge), while WH Harrison served as referee.
The Cambridge boat was built by Searle Stangate and the “beautifully built” Oxford boat was built by the King of Oxford. The race was to take place on a section of five and three-quarters of a mile between Westminster Bridge and Putney Bridge. Oxford was trained by Thames Waterman, while Cambridge was guided by their cox, Thomas Selby Egan.
Oxford crew weighed an 11th average of 10.5 pounds (74.4 kg) per rower, nearly 10 pounds (4.5 kg) per person more than their opponents. None of the Oxford carriages of 1836 raced that year; however, both Edmund Stanley and Cox Egan returned to Cambridge. The first was described by Bell’s Life as “truly amazing, one of the harshest we have ever seen.” The dinghy president of the Oxford club was Culverly Bewicke, who rowed on stroke for the Dark Blues, while Cambridge was the non-rowing president at August Granville.
race[Cambridge] wore white boys and white straw hats with blue ribbons, and had a rosette of the same color on the chest at the helm. The Oxonians wore navy blue guernas with white stripes, dark straw hats with navy blue ribbons.
The Race Judges were Charles Woolaston and CJ Selwyn, while W. Harrison Esk, the Royal Thames Yacht Club Commander, served as the Judge. The race took place on Wednesday, April 3, 1839, starting at “exactly” 4:47 pm, in conditions that McMichael described as “cold, cloudy and windy, and this was the worst day for the water expedition.” According to Bell’s Life , Cambridge were small favorites. Oxford won the toss and chose to start as close to the bank of the Middlesex River as possible. After a close start, the Cambridge boat began to retreat, and there were “several boats” ahead of the Vauxhall Bridge. They extended their lead over Battersea Bridge and fired at Putney Bridge 1 minute 45 seconds ahead to win by 35 lengths, the largest in tournament history as of 2019.
