First-Year Applicants | Moravian University
You are considered a first-year student if you are currently in high school or if you graduated with a GED or high school diploma but have not yet enrolled in a degree-seeking program. We look forward to welcoming you to Moravian University to discover your brilliance!
Moravian Application
Common Application
Wondering which application to use? Both have the same requirements, so you can choose whichever is easiest for you. The best part—Moravian University has no application fee!
Application Checklist
1. Completed Application
You must complete either the Moravian Application or the Common Application. Both applications have the same requirements and your application choice will not have a bearing on your admission decision. Regardless of your application choice, there is no fee to apply to Moravian University.
2. Official High School Transcripts
Once available, submit your official high school transcripts. You do not need to submit your transcripts at the same time as your Moravian application. This can be done after submission.
A high school college-preparatory curriculum should include the following courses:
Subject Matter |
English |
Mathematics (four years for students planning to major in the natural sciences or in economics and business) |
Social Science |
Foreign Language (same language) |
Natural Sciences (at least two of which must include a laboratory experience) |
AP Credits
Moravian University awards credit to students who have passed at an acceptable level certain Advanced Placement Examinations taken prior to admission.
AP Credit Policy
Credit by Examination
Moravian University recognizes the concept of “course equivalency,” which permits the University to certify the educational value of private study and other out-of-class experiences and, following appropriate evaluation by the University, enables the student to receive academic credit toward a degree. Some ways by which students may receive advanced placement and credit by examination are detailed in the following tables. A maximum of 8 course units for credit by examination, in any combination, may be applied to a Moravian University degree.

3. Standardized Test Scores (Optional!)
Moravian’s Test-Optional Policy makes the submission of SAT and ACT standardized test scores optional if you are applying for undergraduate admission.
Your scores will still be accepted and considered if you desire. However, if you feel your test scores are not an accurate representation of your academic abilities, you can choose not to have your scores considered for admission.
If you choose not to submit test scores, it will not hurt your application! Test scores are not required in order to be considered for most scholarships and financial aid.
4. Recommendation
In your application, you should include the contact information of at least one recommender—this could be your school counselor, principal, another school official, or an 11th- or 12th-grade teacher. We will reach out to them for a recommendation.
5. Essay
An essay is an opportunity for Moravian to get to know you better and for you to distinguish yourself in your own voice. What do you want us to know about you apart from courses, grades, and test scores? Your submission should be well written, but it doesn’t need to necessarily be an “essay.” Examples of topics include personal hardships or great accomplishments. You’ll have an option to upload this essay with your application.
6. Special Program Requirements
Your program of interest may have additional application requirements. Please review the list below and submit the additional materials if necessary:
Nursing Majors
Prospective nursing majors are required to meet additional prerequisites. View all nursing requirements.
Art Majors
Prospective art majors are encouraged, but not required, to submit a portfolio of their work along with their application for admission. View portfolio submission guidelines.
Music Majors
Since an audition is required for admission to the music major, students who are planning to major in music at Moravian should arrange an audition with the Music Department directly by calling 610-861-1650. View music requirements.
