What are the common issues with Advantage Rental Car at LAX. How does Advantage compare to other rental companies at Los Angeles International Airport. What are the best alternatives for car rentals at LAX.
Understanding Advantage Rental Car at LAX
Advantage Rental Car is one of several car rental companies operating at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). As with any rental service, customers have reported both positive and negative experiences. To get a comprehensive view of Advantage’s performance at LAX, it’s essential to examine various aspects of their service.
Location and Shuttle Service
Like other rental companies at LAX, Advantage operates off-site. Customers need to take a shuttle from the terminal to reach the rental facility. How frequent and reliable are Advantage’s shuttles at LAX? According to reviews, shuttle frequency can vary, with some customers reporting quick pick-ups while others mention longer wait times, especially during peak hours.
Vehicle Condition and Availability
The condition of rental vehicles is a crucial factor in customer satisfaction. Are Advantage’s cars at LAX well-maintained? Reviews suggest mixed experiences. Some customers report receiving clean, well-functioning vehicles, while others mention issues such as odors, mechanical problems, or receiving a different car class than reserved.
Common Problems Reported with Advantage at LAX
While many customers have satisfactory experiences, some recurring issues have been reported regarding Advantage Rental Car at LAX:
- Long wait times at the counter, especially during busy periods
- Unexpected fees or charges added to the final bill
- Pressure to purchase additional insurance or upgrades
- Discrepancies between the reserved and provided vehicle class
- Customer service concerns, including staff attitude and problem resolution
It’s important to note that these issues are not unique to Advantage and can occur with other rental companies as well. How can customers mitigate these potential problems? Being prepared, thoroughly reading the rental agreement, and documenting the vehicle’s condition before leaving the lot can help avoid many common issues.
Comparing Advantage to Other LAX Car Rental Companies
To understand how Advantage stacks up against its competitors at LAX, it’s helpful to compare key factors:
Pricing
Advantage often offers competitive rates, which can be attractive for budget-conscious travelers. How do their prices compare to major competitors? While Advantage frequently provides lower base rates, it’s crucial to factor in potential additional fees when comparing total costs.
Customer Service
Customer service experiences with Advantage at LAX vary widely. Some customers praise efficient and friendly staff, while others report frustrating interactions. How does this compare to other companies? Major rental firms like Hertz, Enterprise, and Avis generally receive more consistent customer service ratings, though experiences can still vary.
Vehicle Selection
Advantage typically offers a range of vehicle types, from economy to luxury options. Is their selection as extensive as larger companies? While Advantage provides variety, major rental firms often have a broader selection of vehicle classes and specific models available.
Alternatives to Advantage at LAX
For travelers considering options beyond Advantage, several alternatives are available at LAX:
- Major national chains: Hertz, Enterprise, Avis, Budget, and National offer extensive networks and loyalty programs.
- Other budget-friendly options: Dollar, Thrifty, and Alamo provide competitive rates.
- Local companies: Midway Car Rental receives positive reviews for its service and pricing.
- Peer-to-peer rentals: Services like Turo offer an alternative to traditional rental companies.
When choosing an alternative, consider factors such as price, customer service reputation, and specific needs for your trip. How do these alternatives compare in terms of overall value and reliability?
Tips for a Smooth Car Rental Experience at LAX
Regardless of which rental company you choose at LAX, following these tips can help ensure a positive experience:
- Book in advance to secure better rates and vehicle availability
- Join the rental company’s loyalty program for potential upgrades and faster service
- Thoroughly inspect the vehicle before leaving the lot and document any existing damage
- Understand the fuel policy and return the car with the agreed-upon fuel level
- Keep all paperwork and receipts until the rental is fully closed out
How can you avoid common pitfalls when renting a car at LAX? Being informed about the rental process, reading the agreement carefully, and asking questions about any unclear terms can prevent many issues.
Understanding LAX Car Rental Facilities
LAX has a unique setup for car rentals that affects all companies operating there, including Advantage. What should travelers know about renting a car at LAX?
Consolidated Rental Car Center (ConRAC)
LAX is in the process of constructing a Consolidated Rental Car Center (ConRAC), which will house most rental car operations in one location. How will this affect future rentals? Once completed, the ConRAC will streamline the rental process, reducing shuttle times and improving overall efficiency for customers of all rental companies at LAX.
Current Rental Process
Until the ConRAC is operational, rental car companies at LAX, including Advantage, operate from off-airport locations. What does this mean for renters? Customers need to take shuttle buses from the terminal to reach the rental facilities. Shuttle pick-up areas are clearly marked, and buses for various companies circulate regularly.
Maximizing Value with Advantage and Other LAX Rentals
While pricing is often a primary concern, value encompasses more than just the base rate. How can renters ensure they’re getting the best overall value?
Loyalty Programs
Many rental companies, including Advantage, offer loyalty programs. Are these programs worthwhile for occasional renters? Even for infrequent travelers, loyalty programs can provide benefits such as expedited service, potential upgrades, and point accumulation for future discounts.
Bundling and Partnerships
Rental companies often partner with airlines, hotels, and credit card companies. Can these partnerships lead to savings? Checking for bundle deals or using a credit card that offers rental car benefits can result in significant discounts or added protections.
Seasonal and Long-Term Rentals
Rates and availability can fluctuate based on season and rental duration. How can renters optimize their timing? Booking during off-peak seasons or for longer durations can often result in better rates. Some companies, including Advantage, may offer special rates for extended rentals.
Navigating Insurance Options at LAX Rental Companies
Insurance is a crucial consideration when renting a car, often leading to confusion and pressure at the rental counter. What should renters know about insurance options?
Understanding Existing Coverage
Many renters may already have coverage through their personal auto insurance or credit card benefits. How can renters determine their existing coverage? Contacting your insurance provider and credit card company before your trip can clarify what protections you already have, potentially saving you from purchasing unnecessary additional coverage.
Rental Company Insurance Options
Advantage and other rental companies at LAX offer various insurance products. Are these always necessary? While additional coverage can provide peace of mind, it’s important to understand what each option covers and whether it duplicates existing protections. Common offerings include collision damage waivers, liability protection, and personal effects coverage.
Third-Party Insurance Options
Beyond rental company offerings and personal policies, third-party rental insurance is available. How do these options compare? Third-party policies can sometimes offer more comprehensive coverage at lower rates than rental company add-ons, but it’s crucial to ensure they’re recognized and accepted by the rental company.
By understanding these insurance considerations, renters can make informed decisions at the counter, potentially saving money while ensuring adequate protection.

5 hours ago All car rental facilities at LAX are off-site, and you will need to take a shuttle from the terminal to get to one. I would stick with the major firms – Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Thrifty. EUROPCAR Car Rental at LAX Airport (LAX)
Europcar does not have its own rental desk at LAX Airport but uses its partner National counter at the airport.
Using the free phones located in the interactive Visitors Information Centers (VIC’s), which are located in the area of the baggage claim islands on the Lower Level in the Arrivals halls, customers can request their Europcar courtesy shuttle pick-up to Parking Lot C, where all car rental offices are located at LAX.
For advance bookings customers should visit the official company website at www.europcar.com. It is also possible to contact the LAX counter by telephone on +1 (888) 826 6890. It is always cheaper and less time consuming to book online that wait in line at the airport and book over the counter.
Located in San Bernardino County in the Calico Mountains of the Mojave Desert, roughly a 70 mile drive from LAX, California’s historic and very genuine silver mining town Calico is today one of the most visited tourist attractions of the region.
The “Ghost Town” still displays some of the original mining camps of the Old Wild West. Calico Ghost Town has its own museum housed in a genuine late 1880’s building in the town and the town is part of a huge regional park, where visitors can go fishing, swimming, boating as well as enjoy other water sports or go hiking on numerous trails in the Mojave Desert region.
An attraction of a very different nature is Catalina Island. From downtown LA motorists should take the 710 Freeway south into Long Beach and follow the signs to the exit Golden Shore, from where sign-posting will direct them to the terminal and the boats or, if preferred, the helicopter service.
Catalina Island Museum is perhaps an attraction for a rainy day – if such actually exist in California – but the island boasts many other attractions and activities like parasailing, bike rentals for excursions into the interior of the island, bubble rollers, an astronomy tour with guide, shopping in wonderful gift shops, dining on great seafood, not to mention helicopter rides around the island. There are also a golf course, private plane flying lessons, kayak rental, theaters, a cinema and much, much more. The museum is dedicated to the culture and heritage of the island, offering education and entertainment in equal measure with a number of galleries and a digital age theater.
Europcar Los Angeles can offer some excellent alternatives to public transport. In the Economy range there are choices like the Chevrolet Aveo 1.6, which can seat 4 passengers and can be rented by drivers aged 21 and over.
The Compact range from Europcar offers choices like the Nissan Versa 2.0, which has seating for 5 passengers and room for 2 large suitcases in the boot. All the aforementioned vehicles come with unlimited mileage, feature air conditioning and automatic transmission.
In the Standard category there are cars like the Ford Fusion 3.5, which can seat up to 5 passengers and accommodate 3 suitcases, too. The Full-sized cars from Europcar include the Chevrolet Impala, which seats 5 people and accommodates 4 large pieces of luggage.
The Premium range includes the Buick Lucerne 3.8, which can seat up to 6 passengers and transport 3 large suitcases. For even more passenger space there are minivans like the Dodge Caravan 3.9, which can seat up to 7 passengers quite comfortably.
All of Europcar Los Angeles Airport’s vehicles are supplied with unlimited mileage, loss damage waiver, airport surcharge, VAT and supplementary liability cover already included in the rental package.
For more information about Europcar car hire Los Angeles, please visit the official company website at www.europcar.com.
The Cheapest Way to Rent a Car: 10 Tips
One of the biggest travel trends since the COVID-19 pandemic is the comeback of the road trip. But high demand means that supply for rental cars might be lower. Unsurprisingly, car rental prices are at sky-high levels — and that’s if you can find one available to rent at all.
The good news is you don’t have to blow your entire vacation budget on rental cars.
These 10 tricks will help you score a cheap rental car for your next road trip, whether it’s a quick weekend getaway or a cross-country odyssey.
1. Skip the airport
Renting at the airport is convenient when you’re flying into a new city. But that convenience can come at a premium, thanks to airport surcharges. These surcharges often come as fixed dollar figures, typically presented as a “Customer Facility Charge.” You might also find them as a percentage of your overall rental amount — and sometimes, you’ll owe both. These charges are typically several dollars a day, but can often amount to a three-figure charge depending on the length of your trip.
Price out rental locations in the city and compare to what you can get at the airport. Make sure you factor in the cost of a taxi or rideshare to and from your rental location if you rent at a location away from the airport.

See your spending breakdown and spot opportunities to save money.
2. Shop around online
Look at sites like Kayak, Priceline and Cheapcarrental.com to compare your options and narrow in on the best deal.
Then go directly to the car rental company’s site. You might find an even steeper discount that way, particularly with “Pay Now” options. Just keep in mind that rentals paid in advance are typically nonrefundable.
Even after you book, keep shopping. If you didn’t book a nonrefundable rental, you can cancel your reservation if you find a better price.
3. Turn to discount brands
Enterprise, Hertz and Budget aren’t the only outfits in town. Discount brands like Advantage, Payless, Thrifty and Dollar Rental are also vying for your business, often at a lower rate than big-name rental companies.
On a given day, our research showed that the lowest-priced rental from Advantage, Dollar and the like was at least $5 cheaper than the cheapest premium brand rental, depending on the city. That savings multiplies over longer trips.
4. Leverage memberships
Have a Costco membership? Use it to save money on your next rental car.
“I find that Costco consistently beats full-price car rentals on online travel agencies,” says Clem Bason, CEO of the travel website goSEEK. com and formerly of Hotwire.com.
An added bonus: You can often add a driver for free.
Frequent-flyer programs also offer discounts on rental cars. American Airlines, for example, offers AAdvantage members 35% off Budget and Avis — but you need to rent from an airport.
5. Opt for economy cars
Economy cars are typically the cheapest, and therefore the most likely to be booked. You can use this to your advantage, says Brett Graff, a family finance expert and author of a syndicated column called The Home Economist.
“When renting a car, I reserve the smallest, most affordable vehicle possible, knowing there’s a chance it won’t be on the lot and I’ll get an upgrade,” Graff says.
Just don’t book something that’s too small for your party, or you could be stuck cramming five people plus luggage into a two-door coupe. Not exactly the cozy vacation you had in mind, is it?
6. Stick to one driver
Most rental car companies will charge you a daily fee to add an extra driver. That fee is typically $12 per day with Enterprise and National Car Rental and $13 per day with Budget and Avis, but can vary by location.
There are ways to dodge the fee, though. Some companies, such as Enterprise, waive the additional driver fee for a spouse or domestic partner, but you both need to have the same address on your driver’s licenses. Others, including National, will waive the fee for spouses, partners and immediate family members if you enroll in their membership program.
You can also leverage other memberships, such as USAA, AARP, AAA or Costco to get a free additional driver with select rental car companies.
7. Use your own insurance
Renting overseas? You might be required to purchase insurance, even if you have coverage via your primary car insurance and/or your credit card. Build this into your budget.
8. Forgo the extras
Rental agents make more money if they sell you on the benefits of extras like roadside assistance, satellite radio and GPS navigation. You’ll save money if you resist their spiel.
A Garmin device or similar GPS navigation unit will run you $15 per day or more. Use the navigation system you carry around in your pocket and save your money for gas.
“Why rent a GPS when you can use Waze or Google Maps on your phone?” says Michael Goldman, president of AutoRentals.com
If you’re overseas, map out your route ahead of time and download directions when connected to Wi-Fi. Or go old school and pick up a paper map.
Rental car companies charge a per-day fee for the transponder, which you pay in addition to any tolls. While tolls are unavoidable, there are cheaper ways to go about it.
“In the popular vacation destination of South Florida, car rental companies often charge $25 per day for the SunPass, whether you use it or not,” says Goldman of AutoRentals.com. “Instead, purchase Florida’s SunPass for $19.99 at CVS Pharmacy stores, Walgreens and Publix Super Markets throughout South Florida and pay for only what you use. ”
This one may be unavoidable. After all, the safety of your child is more important than saving a few dollars.
But if you have friends where you’re traveling, leverage their network to find a car seat to use during your trip. This will save you $10 or more per day.
9. Price out prepaid gas
Use a site like GasBuddy to scope out nearby gas stations and current fuel prices so you can compare against the prepaid price offered by the rental car company.
Factor in how likely it is you will have a near-empty tank upon your return. On a short day or weekend trip, you may just need to top off your tank before returning the car. Longer trips may allow you to roll in on fumes and save a few dollars as you do so.
10. Walk or ride
While these tips will help you get a cheap rental car, there is one other surefire way to save: Skip the rental altogether.
Most major cities have walkable downtowns and extensive public transportation networks, not to mention taxis and ridesharing apps galore. So save yourself the hassle of traffic and often costly parking rates, if you can, and buy yourself a weekend metro pass.
You might also consider a nontraditional rental car company like Turo or Getaround. Some operate like the Airbnb of cars, where people rent out their personal cars. Others are operated by related players in the automobile space, like car dealerships. But many of them turn out cheaper than your standard rental car, and many let you book by the hour, which can allow you to avoid paying for hours you’re not actually driving.
And you might even be open-minded to alternative wheels. Don’t overlook rideshares for short trips. Finally, it sounds lavish, but if you won’t actually be driving for the majority of your trip, sometimes even a limo might be cheaper.
Norwegian LAX-LGW Dreamliner Economy Class
The days of needing to re-mortgage the house for a flight to Europe are over. Particularly if you want to take advantage of Norwegian’s wizard-level pricing.
Join Zoe Macfarlane on her LAX-LGW journey.
While you can probably guess Norwegian’s origins, you may not know how extensive – and bloody cheap – their network is.
I’m talking some seats as low as US$240 one-way from Los Angeles to London, Stockholm or Oslo. That’s like one outfit from Lululemon (and a good excuse for a US shopping splurge stopover)!
So, does a fare that low mean it’s standing room only? Or that you have to wash your dishes before disembarking? Come with me & find out:
CHECK-IN & BOARDING
The most in-yer-face budget-y experience with Norwegian is sadly the first encounter. While other airlines at LAX’s Tom Bradley had short-ish check-in lines, there’s no such luck with the Norwegian queue. It almost extended to the door. Not an ideal start.
The long lines are in part to timing – there are three Norwegian flights to Europe, departing around the same time. And only one line for all destinations. So, expect to get in a long-ass line unless you’re in Premium Economy.
Even arriving over two hours early, I was still whisked to the front of the queue to be able to make my flight. Your check-in time is best extended to three hours here.
Group boarding was a much more efficient process – in fact, it started 10 minutes early. When does that ever happen?
THE CABIN & SEAT
The last time I flew a low-cost night flight, I vowed never again. It was like sleeping in a coffin made for a 500-year-old ancestor.
Norwegian’s 258 economy class seats were a little less ‘plastic’ than the-flight-that-still-gives-me-nightmares. The seat pitch is 79-81cm and width 44cm, so pretty similar to the other US-Europe carriers (click here to check out handy comparisons).
The lower tray table levels helped with workspace room, particularly when the seat in front reclined. There was also a USB outlet and single-plug headphone jack.
IN-FLIGHT COMFORT
To prep for a Norwegian journey, think more train, less plane.
The girl next to me was horrified at paying for the extras but, as I pointed out, either way, you’re being charged for them. At least with Norwegian, you can keep it at the end (awesome if you’re on a return ticket).
I came prepared with my own pillow, blanket, and headphones. It’s $5 to get your own static-y blankie if you don’t do the same, and earbuds are $3.
FOOD & DRINKS
Like Jetstar or Scoot, that pay-for-everything vibe extends to sustenance. The Low-Fare ticket is Norwegian’s bare-bones option and you’ll pay upwards from $3 for snacks and drinks.
I purchased the Low-Fare+ for the bag and seat selection, so I received dinner and breakfast, as well as drinks. No one cares if you bring your own food onboard, though.
Dinner was chicken and mash, and it was reasonable, if not a little dry. A sandwich and weird-looking sponge cake arrived for breakfast, which I promptly handed to my neighbour (the horrified one). It was 4. 00am L.A. time at this point so… just no.
ENTERTAINMENT & SERVICE
The movie selection was light (especially new releases), but it was free so, I’m not complaining. If you want to stay connected with the rest of the planet, there’s Wi-Fi onboard (for a fee, duh).
For a low-cost carrier, the service was decent. While I didn’t have any requests myself, one stressed-out woman had paid for a window seat but hadn’t been assigned one. The attendant was quick into action.
THE VERDICT
I had to travel on a specific date so didn’t manage to wrangle a fantastic price for my flights (but it was still the cheapest flight).
Aside from a slow, chaotic check-in experience, Norwegian is a very palatable option. It’s not so no-frills that you get a low-rent feeling and the staff were the same standard as most airlines flying across the Atlantic. Secure a bargain (and leave enough time between your AU-US leg), and it’s a winner.
P.S. A side bonus of people buying their own drinks instead of the free-flowing booze-fest of full-service airlines is that you barely have to wait to get into the bathroom.

Is CLEAR Worth the Cost? A Review of the Fast-Pass Program

When it comes to getting through airport security faster, there are a few options. There’s TSA PreCheck, a government-run program, and then there’s CLEAR, a privately operated service. And they serve drastically different purposes.
CLEAR essentially allows you to cut to the front of the line. So on its own, you can skip to the front of the standard security line. In tandem with PreCheck, you can skip to the front of that shorter, faster line – keeping your coat and shoes on and keeping electronics inside your bag, too.
So what’s not to love about CLEAR? For one thing, the price: It starts at a whopping $179 a year, though fortunately there are a handful of ways to drastically drop that cost (or even make it free). Still, that’s a tough price tag to swallow.
While getting CLEAR won’t make sense for each and every traveler, there’s no question it can get you through security faster. And in the new age of touchless travel after the COVID-19 pandemic, CLEAR is more valuable than ever, in my experience.
From signing up to getting through security, here’s our review of using CLEAR at the airport.
CLEAR vs TSA Precheck: The Basics
CLEAR is a privately run trusted-traveler program that takes both your fingerprints and iris scans to confirm your identity before security screening. Once you’ve signed up (more on this shortly) and finalized your registration, you simply head to the CLEAR lane, confirm your identity at a kiosk, and get whisked away to the front of the TSA line by a CLEAR ambassador.
There’s no need for another ID check once you make it to the front of the TSA lane: Just flash your boarding pass to the TSA agent and you’re on your way. If you’ve got TSA PreCheck too, you’ll head to the front of that line – otherwise you’ll cut to the front of the standard TSA line.
Read our full guide on how CLEAR works!
The one hitch with CLEAR is that it’s not available at every airport – but its presence is growing fast. It’s available at more than 30 U.S. airports and counting, along with a handful of professional sports stadiums. Scan through the list and you’ll find plenty of Delta and United hubs, thanks to a close partnership between the two companies.

Signing Up For CLEAR Airport Screening
Signing up for CLEAR at the airport is easy. It’s the price tag that’s scary.
Head to CLEARme.com to register for your membership. At $179 per year, it’s a steep cost – especially considering a TSA PreCheck membership costs just $85 for a five-year membership.
But there are easy ways to drastically cut that cost.
For starters, all Delta SkyMiles members can enroll in CLEAR for just $119. So even if you’re not flying Delta, you can quickly sign up for a free SkyMiles account to capitalize on this lower cost. But if you’ve got status with Delta or hold one of the co-branded Delta SkyMiles American Express, that drops to $109. And the lowest pricing of all is reserved for top-tier Delta Diamond status holders, who can select an annual membership as a free perk.
United has also partnered up with CLEAR to offer similar pricing to its own members.
Not sold yet? CLEAR occasionally offers free two- to three-month trials, which allows you to give the program a test-run before ponying up for a full membership. Late last year, they offered free six-month trials.
But it can potentially get even cheaper … or even free.
The Platinum Card® from American Express was recently overhauled, with a higher annual fee and a slew of new benefits – some better than others. But one great new benefit is an annual credit of up to $179 a year that covers CLEAR enrollment. It’s the only travel credit card that currently covers the entire cost of signing up for CLEAR.
Just pay for your membership with your card and voila: A statement credit will kick in automatically to cover the cost.

The American Express® Green Card also carries a smaller annual $100 credit towards the cost of CLEAR membership.

All information about The American Express Green Card has been collected independently by Thrifty Traveler. The Amex Green Card is no longer available through Thrifty Traveler.
After signing up, you’ll need to finalize your enrollment at the airport before your flight.
Finalizing CLEAR Enrollment at the Airport
Don’t worry – it’s not hard.
After you’ve signed up and received a confirmation email from CLEAR, you’re all set. Just head for the CLEAR lanes at security checkpoints – with bright neon signs, they’re hard to miss – as if you’re ready to go through security. Tell a CLEAR ambassador you need to finalize your enrollment, and they’ll guide you toward a kiosk.
You won’t need anything but your boarding pass and an ID. A CLEAR ambassador will help you finish everything up. That includes getting fingerprints, thumbprints, and an iris scan. They’ll take a quick snapshot of your face and scan your driver’s license. And that’s it. The whole process of finalizing enrollment takes about five minutes.
Using CLEAR to Cut to the Front of TSA Security
Once you’ve finalized your enrollment – or if that’s already taken care of – you’re off.
Just head for the CLEAR lane at the security checkpoint with your boarding pass in hand. A CLEAR agent will once again bring you to a kiosk for a quick scan of your eyes or fingerprints, glance at your boarding pass, and then escort you to the front of the TSA line. CLEAR members don’t need to show their ID – that’s what CLEAR is for.
From there, you’re ready to go through TSA security.
Over the course of the last year, I’ve used CLEAR about 10 times. While security checkpoint lines have grown as travel rebounds, CLEAR and TSA PreCheck lines have been short – or even nonexistent. Without fail, I’ve made it through security in less than five minutes every single time at every airport. Sometimes, that’s more like just two to three minutes total.
Prior to the pandemic, I was more skeptical of CLEAR and its value. But a quick, touchless trip through security is paramount these days.
Is that worth it for everyone? It depends on how much you travel – and how much you’d wind up actually paying for CLEAR. At $179 a year, it’s hard to make sense of paying for CLEAR if you travel just once or twice a year. But if you’re flying five-plus times a year, you may be able to easily justify the cost – especially with such an easy way to drop that to at least $119 a year with a free Delta SkyMiles or United MileagePlus account.
And if you can cut that cost even further using credits from the Amex Platinum or Amex Green Card? Well, why not?
Bottom Line: CLEAR vs TSA Precheck
There’s no denying that CLEAR airport screening is expensive. But considering how easy it is to substantially cut that cost, it could easily be worth it.
In our experience, CLEAR can cut your time waiting in airport security lines in half or more. With both CLEAR and PreCheck, I regularly get all the way through security in five minutes or less.

New Luxury Car Service at LAX Pulls up Planeside but Costs $3,000

Hopping off the plane at LAX just got a massive upgrade for certain types of travelers.
PS, the private terminal at Los Angeles International Airport that lets wealthy travelers skip the commercial terminal entirely, is introducing a new pandemic-era luxury car service that offers planeside pickups upon arrival.
PS Direct lets travelers skip the terminal entirely, including the PS private terminal, and head straight to their final destination just moments after stepping off of their commercial flight. That means no more waiting in taxi lines or walking through a crowded terminal to find one’s driver.
A PS representative greets passengers in the jetway and escorts them directly to the airport tarmac where their stylish BMW 750i awaits. The four-seater sedans feature executive passenger seating complete with seat-back entertainment screens, recline functionality, seat-warming capabilities, individual climate control, and a sunroof, to name just a few amenities.

Only PS annual members have access to the service and just a single ride incurs a fee of $3,450, which is $200 more than the cost of booking a luxurious suite at the facility. A yearly membership at PS costs $4,500 and comes with benefits like complimentary valet parking, free spa services (not available during the pandemic), and priority reservations when booking suites.
Amina Belouizdad, co-CEO at PS, told Insider that the higher price point for the service compared to its suites comes as a result of the cost of licensing for its drivers and other expenses associated with launching the service.
For frequent PS users, the experience will be largely similar to what they’re accustomed to when frequenting the suites except they’ll just skip the private terminal be driven straight to their homes, hotels, or wherever they’re staying in Los Angeles. Even those flyers that have checked bags can skip baggage claim and use the service.
“If you’ve checked bags, you wait five minutes on average in the BMW while we retrieve your bags from the plane, put them in the trunk of your car, and then we drive you straight home,” Belouizdad said.
The service is currently only available when arriving on a domestic flight. PS has its own US Customs and Border Protection facilities that inbound arrivals can use but that requires a stop in the private terminal.

Planeside pickups have historically been a benefit of flying private but PS is the first to make it available for commercial flights in the US, an impressive feat considering the heightened security environment that exists at bustling international airports like LAX.

TSA PreCheck vs. Clear: Which Is Best?
If you’ve been in an airport recently, you’ve probably noticed two types of security lines: One for TSA PreCheck and one for Clear. Many of us already know of TSA PreCheck—a Trusted Traveler Program that allows you to quickly move through airport security—but you may not be as familiar with Clear—an airport security technology and membership program.
Here are the three biggest differences between TSA PreCheck and Clear:
- TSA PreCheck is offered through the government while Clear is offered through a private company.
- Clear expedites the document/identity screening process and TSA PreCheck expedites the physical screening process.
- Clear membership costs $179 per year and TSA PreCheck membership costs $85 for five years.
Which is better, Clear or Precheck? Both programs have their advantages and disadvantages—and savvy travelers might want to use both programs to their advantage. Let’s take a look at Clear vs. TSA PreCheck, and help you decide which program is best for you.
TSA PreCheck
TSA PreCheck is a Trusted Traveler Program administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration. After completing the TSA PreCheck application process and passing a background check, you’ll receive a known traveler number that you can enter whenever you book a flight.
As a PreCheck member, you’ll be able to access the expedited PreCheck security line and complete airport security without going through the hassle of removing your shoes, belt or light jacket. You’ll also be able to leave laptops and TSA-approved liquids and gels in your carry-on.
Occasionally, passengers are randomly selected for traditional airport security screening and are unable to use the TSA PreCheck expedited security line for that flight. For more information on how PreCheck works, read Bankrate’s complete guide to TSA PreCheck—and if you’re curious about the difference between PreCheck and Global Entry (another Trusted Traveler Program designed to help people get through U.S. customs more efficiently), read this guide on how to decide between Global Entry and TSA PreCheck.
The availability of TSA PreCheck
TSA PreCheck is available at over 200 domestic airports and 73 airlines that can be found on the official TSA website. Even though many airports and airlines participate in TSA PreCheck, there are some locations at which PreCheck is not available.
Am I eligible for TSA PreCheck?
If you are a U.S. citizen or a lawful and permanent U.S. resident, you are eligible to apply for TSA PreCheck.
TSA PreCheck application process and cost
The TSA PreCheck application process is simple. First, fill out a short online application that should take no more than five minutes to complete. Then, schedule an appointment at a TSA PreCheck enrollment center to receive a background check and fingerprinting.
This two-step application process costs $85, and your TSA PreCheck enrollment status remains valid for five years.
Many top travel credit cards offer statement credits for TSA PreCheck application costs, which is one way to offset the cost of applying for TSA PreCheck. Travel credit cards often come with other cost-saving benefits like travel insurance and airport lounge access, so if you’re a frequent traveler, you might want to consider adding a travel card to your wallet.
Benefits of TSA PreCheck
TSA PreCheck offers a number of benefits, including an expedited airport security screening process, the comfort of not having to remove shoes, belts or light jackets before clearing airport security and the ability to leave laptops and TSA-approved liquids and gels in your carry on luggage.
Many people consider the designated PreCheck security line and faster security clearance to be the primary benefit of TSA PreCheck—but being able to keep your shoes on during the process is a huge plus.
Clear
Clear is a registered traveler program that allows members to quickly verify their identities at touchless, biometric security kiosks. Clear passengers can use the Clear lane to speed up the first half of the airport security process, instead of waiting in line for a TSA representative to check their boarding pass and photo ID. After getting through the biometric screening, a Clear Ambassador will escort you directly to the next stage of the screening process so that you can complete the physical/luggage scanning. You’ll be taken to the TSA PreCheck line if you already have PreCheck; otherwise, you’ll use the regular screening line.
Clear has been SAFETY Act certified by the Department of Homeland Security, and Clear kiosks are available not only at airports, but also at stadiums, concert venues and arenas.
In addition to the $15/month Clear membership that allows you to pass through expedited airport security, Clear also offers two free plans: a Sports Pass that helps shorten the time it takes to enter sports venues, and a newly launched Health Pass that allows you to share both your COVID-19 vaccine status and any recent negative test results with airport personnel.
The availability of Clear
Clear is available at over 50 airports, stadiums and arenas across the United States. In New York City, for example, Clear is available at LaGuardia Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, Westchester County Airport, Citi Field, Madison Square Garden and Yankee Stadium. Smaller cities and towns, on the other hand, may have no Clear locations. You can use Clear’s location guide to determine whether it’s available in your area.
Am I eligible for Clear?
If you are a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident over the age of 18, you are eligible to apply for Clear.
Clear application process and cost
The Clear application process is similar to the TSA PreCheck application process. Start by filling out a quick online application, then visit one of the 50-plus Clear locations to finish the process. You do not need to make an appointment before visiting a Clear location, but you do need to bring a photo ID that matches the name on your application and be prepared to share your biometric information.
Clear costs $179 per year, which makes it more expensive than TSA PreCheck. And while a statement credit for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry applications is a common perk among luxury travel cards, credits for Clear are much less common.
However, two American Express cards do offer a benefit to help cover the cost. First, the American Express® Green Card offers up to a $100 Clear statement credit each year to help you cover the cost. And The Platinum Card® from American Express offers up to $179 in Clear statement credits each year.
In addition, travel sites like The Points Guy also regularly share discount codes that can help you save on your Clear application, and Delta SkyMiles and United MileagePlus members are eligible for discounted or free Clear memberships.
Benefits of Clear
Clear allows you to quickly verify your identity with a touchless biometric scan, which saves you from the hassle of waiting in line for a TSA representative to review your boarding pass and photo ID.
Clear also gives you the opportunity to speed up the security process at non-airport locations, like stadiums and arenas, and is continuing to expand its reach with programs like its new Health Pass.
Which is better: TSA PreCheck or Clear?
When it comes down to Clear vs. TSA PreCheck, many travelers will automatically assume that TSA PreCheck is better. PreCheck is less expensive, is available at more airports nationwide and has the advantage of being backed by the federal government. Plus, many travel credit cards offer statement credits that can cover the cost of your TSA PreCheck application.
That said, Clear also has a few advantages—including the ability to use the free Clear Health Pass to quickly share your COVID-19 vaccine and test status with airports, sports arenas and concert venues. If you plan to travel or attend arena events in 2021 or 2022, adding the Clear Health Pass to your phone could be a plus.
Advantages of having both TSA PreCheck and Clear
While it might seem odd to consider enrolling in both TSA PreCheck and CLEAR, there are advantages to being a member of both programs. The biggest advantage is the way the programs work together to ease your trip through airport security. You can streamline your travel document screening process through Clear, then enter the TSA PreCheck screening line and walk through security with your shoes on.
Here are a few more advantages to having both PreCheck and Clear:
- TSA PreCheck only allows you to expedite your airport security experience, but Clear can speed up your entry into airports, stadiums and venues.
- Occasionally, TSA PreCheck passengers will be randomly selected for traditional airport screening and will not be able to use the PreCheck security line; Clear passengers always get to access the dedicated Clear lane at security.
- Not all airlines allow you to use your TSA PreCheck membership to get through security, but Clear works no matter what airline you’re flying.
- Clear’s new Health Pass allows you to share your COVID-19 vaccine status and any recent negative test results, which might reduce or eliminate any required quarantine time after travel.
If you want an affordable way of shortening the time it takes to get through airport security, TSA PreCheck might be your best choice. But if you want to maximize your experience at airports, stadiums and concert venues, Clear might be a good option.
TSA PreCheck is currently available at more locations than Clear, but Clear gives you access to expedited security lines at stadiums and arenas, as well as airports. Plus, Clear never puts you through the hassle of random security screening.
In the end, it’s up to you to weigh the pros and cons and decide whether you’d like to apply for TSA PreCheck, Clear or both. That way, you’ll be able to spend your next trip breezing through airport security.

Gold crowns – photos, reviews, prices. The cost of gold crowns in Moscow
The time when it was fashionable to have gold teeth is long over. Nevertheless, it is possible to install gold crowns even today. There are patients who prefer the precious metal. For a number of reasons, dentists do not refuse it either, some even use it for themselves. The pros, cons and other nuances of using these micro-prostheses are our topic today.
Installing gold crowns: advantages and disadvantages
Gold in dentistry has a number of positive qualities, due to which it was widely used in the USSR, and is still used today. At the same time, he also has weaknesses. As usual, we have reflected them in a comparison table:
Pluses of gold crowns
- Biocompatible with human tissues, do not cause rejection and allergies,
- The properties are similar to their own enamel, do not damage the opposite teeth,
- Do not interact with food and saliva, do not darken over time,
- Have anti-inflammatory effect, protect support units from caries,
- Strong and chewable,
- They have a service life of 15 to 20-25 years,
- They are easy for doctors to work with,
- They cannot crack or chip.
Cons of “precious” teeth
- Controversial Aesthetics,
- Enamel turning required,
- High price.
As you can see, gold crowns have much more positive sides. And aesthetics can be “bought” by making ceramic spraying. The teeth are both gold and white at the same time.
What are gold crowns?
from precious metal differ in alloy composition and manufacturing method. Their cost depends on this:
- Stamped – Made from standard blanks that are fixed to dental cement. They are cheaper.
- Cast – they are made according to individual casts, they fit better and sit tighter, however, you will have to remove more enamels before fixing them. They are more expensive.
Gold crowns are not only made from pure gold of the 900-carat standard. This metal is too plastic, so others are added to it for hardness – platinum, silver, copper. The price is calculated depending on the percentage of additives.
Who can get gold crowns and who should choose another option
Readings
Restoration of damaged dental units of the chewing group on the upper and lower jaw, complete restoration of their volume and functionality.
Contraindications
Presence of another metal in the mouth, age less than 16 years, pregnancy.
A little bit about galvanic electricity or how to avoid the battery-in-the-mouth effect
In the presence of prostheses made of iron, tin and its alloys in the mouth, and, for example, if you also put a gold prosthesis in your mouth, electrochemical processes will begin, like in a finger battery.Plus is gold, minus is iron or tin, and saliva is a conductor. Galvanic electricity is generated, which is not the best effect on health. Numbness and tingling in the mouth are not the most unpleasant consequences. Much more dangerous is chronic metal poisoning, which, under such conditions, enter the bloodstream.
Stages of fixation of gold crowns
Like any others, gold tooth replacements are installed according to a certain pattern. We briefly reflected it in the table:
Advantages and disadvantages of liquid rubber for waterproofing – review and reviews
Liquid rubber “Haveg” is a modern one-component mastic designed for cold application on various types of surfaces. The material has found application in various fields, and its technical characteristics have become the reason for popularity among professional builders, repairmen and ordinary users.
Liquid rubber: advantages and disadvantages of the material
First, consider the advantages of this proposal. These include:
- practicality;
- versatility;
- high adhesion to surfaces;
- high processing speed;
- ease of application and repair;
- reliable protection against moisture and environmental influences;
- elasticity;
- large operating temperature range;
- no emission of harmful substances;
- durability.
Of course, this is just a short list of the advantages of choosing. Like any other material, there are also weaknesses.
Cons of liquid rubber:
- cost;
- Difficulty in removing the membrane from the surface;
- Weakness for petroleum-based solvents.
Please note that when comparing the cost of coating with roll materials and liquid waterproofing PBK “Haveg” only the price of 1 m² is taken into account. At the same time, the cost of roll waterproofing may ultimately be much higher due to: the complexity of the preparatory work; two-layer coating; using fasteners. This is confirmed by numerous reviews of our customers.

90,000 Advantages and disadvantages 11 iphone
The World Store has a huge assortment of Apple technology. The iPhone 11 is particularly popular due to the ergonomics and affordability that make this smartphone attractive to customers.
iPhone 11 Pros
One of the positive features of the iPhone 11 is an excellent display. The screen allows you to watch videos in a clear image with high-quality color reproduction.Plus, the iPhone 11 is packed with useful Haptic Touch technology, which the brand has been using since the iPhone XR to speed up interactions with the device. Instead of 3D Touch, which used pressure force, Hartic Touch uses two types of tapas – regular and continuous.
The memory size from 64 to 256 GB is quite enough for working with ordinary applications, but the maximum configuration, of course, gives more possibilities.
The main camera allows you to take pictures of the quality comparable to that of a professional camera.Even under the most unfavorable conditions, the result of shooting will delight the owner of a smartphone. The advantage of this smartphone model is the portrait mode. The ƒ / 1.8 aperture camera helps you take great portrait photos. Also, the iPhone 11 copes with video shooting without any complaints. Stabilization smooths out shaking, vibration, trembling hands, so the focus does not jump. 4K 60 FPS works without any restrictions.
Negative sides of iPhone 11
The big bezel is a big drawback with the iPhone 11.Even in cheaper models of smartphones, it is less.
Users also have complaints about the material of the case from which the smartphone is made: marks and stains from wet fingers remain on the black case.
Shooting videos in 4K60FPS mode quickly clogs memory. If you plan to work with videos in the maximum resolution, it is better to choose the 256 GB version.
The iPhone 11 battery loses 12% of its capacity within six months. For continuous operation of the smartphone during the day, it is necessary to recharge the mobile device.
The
iPhone 11 has a weak ultra-wide-angle camera that can only take pictures in good light. In the evening, the images are of poor quality.
Conclusion
Buying an iPhone 11 means saving money and purchasing a reliable mobile device, the manufacturer of which guarantees quality work. The online store “World Store” offers customers to buy an iPhone 11 in Tula.An application for the purchase of goods is made on the website of the online store. We provide our customers with the opportunity to purchase equipment on credit on favorable terms, and the managers of the World Store will help you choose a smartphone and the necessary accessories for it, based on the buyer’s request.

Advantages and disadvantages of various ways of investing in platinum group metals – Aton
Aton analysts consider in their review the advantages and disadvantages of various ways of investing in platinum group metals ( physical metal (ingots), exchange-traded funds for gold, exchange-traded funds for shares of gold producers, shares of gold producers, bonds of gold mining companies, gold futures).
According to experts:
1. The best long-term investment is bullion or ETF. In the medium to long term, gold is performing better than producer stocks (in the form of ETFs).
2. ETFs of gold producers show weaker results than the metal itself, and after the collapse of gold prices in 2013, they showed themselves as an investment in gold “with leverage” (there is still no lead). Therefore, Aton experts believe that it is more correct to choose shares of individual companies for successful investments than just buy ETFs.
3. Gold x3 ETF is preferred as a short-term speculative rate. Gold futures give an even greater dependence on the price of the metal, but this is hardly the best investment vehicle in such a market environment, when prices can plummet or rise after one tweet from the President of the United States.
A relatively popular way of investing in gold is buying bullion or coins (usually from banks or mints).
Pros: As a physical asset, the metal is not at risk of electronic theft or disposal. There is no counterparty risk as gold cannot be both a financial asset of the owner and a liability of the other party. Transaction information is private.
“Cons”: Russian investors must pay 20% VAT on the price of the ingot (will be canceled from January 1, 2020). There is a risk of buying counterfeit bars. Physical metal can be stolen. Storage costs are low, but renting a safety deposit box increases the cost of ownership.
Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in gold allow investors to bet on changes in the price of the metal.Their dynamics are tied to the price of gold, which is stored in accredited vaults around the world. The most popular ETFs are SPDR Gold Trust (GLD US, 36% of total gold investments) and iShares Gold Trust (IAU, 13%).
Pros: Unlike a physical metal, gold ETFs make trading easier by removing the need to buy or sell the metal itself. They cannot be physically stolen (although there is a risk of hacking), they do not require specially equipped storage. Some instruments, such as VelocityShares 3x ETN (UGLD), offer leveraged investment opportunities.
Cons: Owning an ETF does not mean owning a physical asset. In some jurisdictions, gold ETFs do not allow for the same tax deduction as common stock ETFs. There are expenses for managing the asset.
Exchange-traded funds for shares of gold producers. These ETFs are formed from stocks of gold mining companies – there is no need for investors to buy securities from individual issuers. Among the most popular funds are Vaneck Gold Miners (GDX US) and Vaneck JR Gold Miners (GDXJ US).
Pros: ETFs mimic a basket of stocks while providing diversified investment. They are also more sensitive to changes in the price of gold than gold ETFs. Gold producers tend to pay dividends, which is beneficial for ETF holders.
“Cons”: The dynamics of shares in gold mining companies depends not only on the price of gold, but also on specific factors of the issuers. ETF ownership includes asset management and custody costs. There is a risk of incorrectly following the dynamics of the market – it is usually small, but it can affect the return on investment.
Buying shares of gold mining companies as a bet on the price of a metal is usually considered a leveraged investment, as their price dynamics are generally better than the price of gold when it rises and worse when it declines.
Pros: With a successful stock selection in the gold mining sector, investments can significantly outpace the price of gold when it rises. Stock prices can be well influenced by increased production, increased inventories, mergers and acquisitions that increase shareholder value, and other factors.
Cons: Such investments are more risky because they carry an element of the issuer’s risks (operational, strategic, competitive, legal, etc.) and country risks (for example, a strengthening of the national currency can increase production costs).
Buying bonds from gold mining companies gives exposure to gold price movements, but this will be limited by the general properties of bonds as an investment vehicle: relatively low price volatility.
Pro: Bonds are generally considered a less risky asset than stocks and may be attractive to investors who are risk averse and want to be exposed to movements in the gold price. The sensitivity of bonds to changes in the gold price can be adjusted by choosing instruments with a longer or shorter maturity.
Cons: For some investors, the sensitivity of bond prices to the price of gold may not be sufficient. For example, since June, gold has risen in price by 18%, AngloGold shares – by 78%, and the company’s dollar bonds due in 2040 – by only 7%.
Gold futures are transactions of buying or selling gold on conditions defined now with a settlement day in the future (usually up to three months in advance).Gold futures can be bought on the Moscow Exchange, Comex and other sites, according to Aton’s review.
Pros: Compared to commodities themselves, futures provide investors with greater financial leverage, flexibility and financial integrity.
“Against”: “High leverage” means an increased risk of default when the price of gold falls, and the existence of an expiration date does not allow holding positions for a long time.
14 main pros and cons of bitcoin. Instructions for a beginner :: RBK.Crypto
The first cryptocurrency has subtle advantages over cash and quite expected drawbacks. We tell all about the main digital coin
In 2020bitcoin is 11 years old. Since the release of the genesis block in 2009, the first cryptocurrency has gone from an unknown coin to the main digital asset with a capitalization of hundreds of millions of dollars. Digital gold has a lot of advantages, and due to this, its popularity is growing every year. But when investing in BTC, it is worth considering that this asset has a significant number of disadvantages.
Bitcoin Strengths
1. Decentralization
One of the fundamental characteristics of cryptocurrencies is decentralization. In January 2018, a record maximum of the number of nodes (these are computers connected to the blockchain network) of bitcoin was recorded – then it reached 200 thousand.Since then, the value has been decreasing, and in May of this year, a three-year minimum of 47 thousand nodes was recorded. This means that fewer and fewer users participate in the validation (confirmation) of transactions and store copies of the first cryptocurrency blockchain on their devices.
However, so far, according to bitcoin developer Matt Corallo, the reduction in the number of nodes does not pose any particular problems for the network. It is important that validators continue to validate transactions and that there are enough nodes for other nodes to download the blockchain.
Bitcoin is not controlled by a private company or the government of a large state. In mid-2010, even the creator of the first cryptocurrency under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto stopped participating in the project. After that, his fate was given to independent developers. Their work is supported by donations and with the help of the Bitcoin Foundation, which also lives on grants from commercial organizations.
2. Cheap transfers around the world
Fees for transactions in the bitcoin network and the speed of their execution does not depend on the distance over which the transfer needs to be made. If, when using the services of companies, such as Western Union, for example, sending funds can take several days, then Bitcoin will cope with this task on average in an hour.In this case, the commission will be incommensurate with the amount sent.
For example, in February of this year, the Bittrex exchange sent 49,922 BTC ($ 460 million at the exchange rate at that time) in one transaction with a commission of $ 0.60. And in January, there was an operation in the amount of 124,946 BTC (about $ 1 billion), for which they had to pay $ 83. At the same time, BTC is considered an outdated cryptocurrency in terms of technology, and to solve its shortcomings, there are a lot of altcoins that will perform such tasks much faster and better.
For example, the XRP token was developed by Ripple to solve banking problems. Blockchain project products, such as xRapid, allow large amounts of money to be transferred instantly and almost free of charge over any distance.
3. Uninterrupted operation of the network
The main danger for any cryptocurrency is a 51% attack, when a group of miners controls at least 51% of the network, due to which it can influence transactions and the blockchain as a whole. According to the crypto51 service, now the cost of 1 hour of such an attack on the network of the main digital coin costs about $ 433 thousand. This amount depends on the hash rate of the asset.
Currently, most of the computing power of bitcoin is located in China. It can be assumed that the country’s authorities, if they want, will be able to unite mining companies in order to seize control over the blockchain of the first cryptocurrency. However, experts are confident that this will never happen.
Mining companies will not destroy their source of income, explained the co-founder of BitCluster Sergey Arestov. Even if someone decides to attack the network of the first cryptocurrency, this will not destroy it, but the maximum will lead to failures that can be eliminated by issuing an emergency update. The cryptocurrency network has been operating error-free for years. And so far there are no prerequisites for the fact that this situation can change.
4. Deflationary nature
Everyone started talking about the deflationary nature of bitcoin in 2020, when the Fed and central banks of major countries began to apply extraordinary measures to support the economy. Since the beginning of the year, the total balance of the United States, Europe and Japan has grown by $ 5 trillion. At the same time, the emission of cryptocurrency cannot be increased; under any circumstances, it will not exceed 21 million coins.
This means that, unlike, for example, the US dollar, which is issued on an unlimited scale, bitcoin is not subject to inflation. On the contrary, over time, the supply of cryptocurrency on the market will decrease, which means that even if demand persists, its price will rise. The coin is programmed to rise in price, making it look much more valuable than fiat money.
5.Digital Gold
Bitcoin can replace gold as a means of preserving capital, analysts at the investment company Grayscale believe. They explained that the precious metal has large reserves and cannot be easily divided and transported. Therefore, the first cryptocurrency is perfect for the role of “digital gold”. At the moment, the usability of a traditional asset is significantly lower than that of its modern counterpart. EOS creator Brendan Blumer is confident that BTC will replace gold and become the main asset to store value in the next twenty years.
6. An easy path to investment
In order to start trading bitcoin, you do not need to have special licenses or knowledge. It is enough to go through the registration procedure on a crypto exchange or download an electronic wallet. However, this is fraught with the fact that many people far from the world of finance lose money on literally blind investments. For example, those who invested in the XRP token in January 2018, when it was trading at $ 3.4, are now unlikely to ever get their money back (now the price of the coin is 94% lower, about $ 0.191).
7. Protective asset
During local economic crises, the bitcoin rate on local sites often rises above the market average. For example, cryptocurrency is super popular in Argentina and Venezuela.
When people lose confidence in their national currencies, they try to find alternatives to save their money. Bitcoin, despite the insane volatility, is not subject to inflation and, moreover, hyperinflation. Therefore, it looks like a great investment option.
Weaknesses of Bitcoin
1. Volatility
Bitcoin is often referred to as a defensive asset. However, it is difficult to be sure that cryptocurrency savings will retain their value. The price of BTC at any moment can sharply collapse by more than two times. For example, on March 12-13, it fell by over 50% during the day, to a minimum of $ 3800.
In addition to this, bitcoin may sharply rise or fall in price due to any news, even indirectly related to the coin itself. This happened in November last year. Chinese President Xi Jinping said that blockchain (not bitcoin or cryptocurrency) is one of the key technologies for the country’s development. Within a day after that, the price of the main digital coin increased from $ 7,000 to $ 10,000.
2. High commissions for withdrawal
One of the advantages of bitcoin is the ability to transfer large amounts for low fees. But this applies to transactions within the system. If an investor wants to cash out, he will have to pay a commission for the withdrawal of assets to counterparties, for example, exchanges or exchangers. On this you can lose from 2-5% or more of the transaction amount. The more capital that the user is going to exchange for traditional money, the higher the likelihood that the exchanger simply will not have such amounts of funds.
Some analysts predict a multiple rise in the price of bitcoin in the future and suggest investing in it with long-term goals. However, such a contribution in the future may turn out to be illegal, for example, if the government prohibits the ownership of cryptocurrency and transactions with it. In this case, the user runs the risk of losing all or part of his capital on the fact that it will become much more expensive and more difficult to cash out digital coins.
4.Criminals
Bitcoin is used not only for investment or cheap transfers. Also, a user using cryptocurrency can purchase prohibited substances or launder criminal proceeds. But even if an ordinary user does not use cryptocurrencies for criminal purposes, he can still suffer.
For example, if you buy “dirty cryptocurrency” from an exchanger or “from hands” from another person. In this case, the funds may be frozen. But this can be avoided by checking transactions using special services.
5. Sophisticated system
Bitcoin is a decentralized system that does not have a single governing link. Because of this, BTC holders are not immune to errors. For example, if an investor forgets the password for his digital wallet or loses access to it, it will not be possible to return the cryptocurrency, it is simply impossible. An irretrievable loss of funds will also occur if the user sends them to the wrong address: the transaction cannot be canceled in the blockchain. In such a case, one can only hope that the recipient will return them of his own free will.
One of the drivers of growth in the value of bitcoin is considered to be its recognition in society: the more demand, the higher the price. However, the spread of digital money is slowing due to a controversial reputation. Often, BTC and other cryptocurrencies are used in criminal schemes, for example, for money laundering, buying illegal substances, or building financial pyramids. This causes negative associations and forces the government to take prohibitive measures.
7.Lack of protection
We already wrote that decentralization is a plus. But also a minus, because, in this regard, bitcoin and other coins do not have clear legislative regulation. This limits the ability of users to obtain legal protection, for example, if they have suffered at the hands of fraudsters. Now there is no exact understanding of how the value of digital assets is determined, there is no legal status for them. Also, there are no instructions on how law enforcement agencies can track the stolen cryptocurrency, seize it, etc.
