Choosing the Right Academic Summer Camp in Los Angeles
With such a wide variety of academic summer camps available in Los Angeles, selecting the right one for your child can be a daunting task. It’s essential to consider your child’s interests, learning style, and goals when making this decision. Here are some factors to keep in mind when choosing an academic summer camp:
Factors to Consider When Selecting a Summer Camp
- Your child’s interests and passions
- Age-appropriateness of the program
- Camp duration and schedule
- Qualifications of instructors and staff
- Facility quality and safety measures
- Cost and potential financial aid options
- Reviews and recommendations from other parents
How can you ensure you’re choosing the best camp for your child? Start by involving your child in the decision-making process. Discuss their interests and goals for the summer, and research camps together. Consider visiting potential camps or attending information sessions to get a better feel for the programs. Don’t hesitate to ask questions about the curriculum, daily schedules, and staff qualifications to ensure the camp aligns with your expectations and your child’s needs.
Remember that the goal of an academic summer camp is not just to keep your child occupied during the summer months, but to provide an enriching experience that complements their regular schooling. The right camp can ignite new passions, develop valuable skills, and create lasting memories that will benefit your child long after the summer ends.
Los Angeles Summer Specialty Camps Listings
What is a Specialty Summer Camp?
In contrast to general camp programs which typically feature a wide range of camp activities, specialty camps focus on a single theme or activity to accommodate campers with specific interests.
For example, if your child wants to be the next Michael Jordan or Lisa Leslie, a basketball specialty camp would be right up their alley. Or if your kids are beach bunnies, there’s many beach or surf camp opportunities they can choose from. Moreover, the camp counselors working at specialty summer camps generally possess highly specialized training, certifications and skill sets enabling them to impart their knowledge to campers in a high confidence way while giving parents peace of mind their kids are learning from the qualified staff. There really is no limit as to the kinds of specialty summer camps available in L.A. |
Pro Tip: Specialty camps are ideal for campers who want to learn or develop specific skills or concentrate on a certain activity at camp. You will find many specialty summer camp listings further down this page, but for a more complete list, search our new Los Angeles Summer Camp Directory today!

Long Beach Camp in Los Angeles, California.
Language camp for children from 15 to 18 years old
General program:
English course:
The course includes 20 academic hours per week in international mini-groups. On the first day of training, a language test takes place, according to the results of which the children are divided into study groups. It is possible to move to another group if the program participant is too easy or difficult with his teacher. At the end of the course, each participant receives an official certificate confirming the level of English proficiency. Particular emphasis in the curriculum is placed on the development of oral speech skills. In addition, FLS International teachers set themselves the task of not only improving the knowledge of the language, but also expanding the understanding of American culture for each child.
Thematic program:
- Surf camp. The Surf Camp program takes place in Orange County – the heart of the world’s surf movement! International surfing championships are held here every year. Experienced instructors surf with program participants at a sports school on Huntington Beach, one of the most famous beaches in the western United States. Training involves attending 10 surf lessons per week.
- Movie camp. For guys in whose life the phrase “Camera, action!” can become an integral part of the profession, the Cinema Camp summer camp invites you to try to create your own short film. Classes are taught by teachers who have real experience in filming in Hollywood. Students of the course learn how to create scripts, transfer them to the screen, and also acquire basic camera skills, act as directors and work on additional effects. Students visit the world famous film studios Warner Bros., Sony/MGM, Paramount and Universal. The program includes 8 filmmaking classes per week.
- Actor’s camp. By participating in the acting program at the Acting Camp, students will learn to improvise, create characters, interact with partners, play facial expressions, use gestures correctly, behave in front of the camera. At the end of the course, a recording of the performance will be issued. Also, as part of the program, students attend Universal Studios and theater performances. In the acting program, the subject is given 10 lessons per week.
Entertainment program. Evening entertainment at California State University Long Beach is fun discos and DJ performances, barbecues, and movie marathons! During the day, the children are offered to take part in various sports events and competitions in football, basketball, tennis, volleyball and bowling.
Excursion program. Despite the rather busy schedule (the guys attend classes both in the morning and in the afternoon), excursions are organized for the participants of the summer camp to the most interesting and famous places in such a bright and juicy California: Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Disneyland, Avenue of Stars, Grove Shopping and Entertainment Center, Grammy Museum, Griffith Observatory, Long Beach, Venice Beach, California Science Center and more. It looks like the American Dream is coming true! Entrance fees not included. We offer the “ Discovery ” Entry Ticket Package ($260) to save significant on-site admission costs.
Many consider Los Angeles to be the heart of California. Its modern appearance is not only the Avenue of Stars and the scene of the beloved TV series. Greater Los Angeles is now home to dozens of contemporary art museums, restaurants of all kinds of cuisines, monuments of architecture and one hundred and twenty kilometers of sun-kissed coastline. Every corner of Los Angeles, from Santa Monica to Pasadena, is permeated with warmth and the spirit of freedom, which will not let you forget that you are in the City of Angels.
A 30-minute drive from the coveted city of dreams is Fullerton, California’s largest university and one of the most innovative research bases in the US.
Here, on the basis of the Long Beach campus of California State University, an international summer camp for teenagers is organized not only with the possibility of immersion in the language environment, but also additional thematic training: acting, cinematography or surfing to choose from!
