What is a 9 diamond triangle top string in lacrosse. How does it differ from standard top strings. What are the benefits and challenges of using this stringing technique. How can you master the 9 diamond triangle top string for your lacrosse stick.
Understanding the 9 Diamond Triangle Top String
The 9 diamond triangle top string is an advanced lacrosse stringing technique that builds upon the standard 9 diamond (9D) top string. This method adds a triangular pattern to the traditional 9D configuration, creating a unique and visually striking appearance.
But what exactly sets this stringing style apart? Let’s break it down:
- It incorporates a triangular pattern into the top string
- Provides additional reinforcement to both the sidewall and top string
- Offers a distinctive aesthetic that catches the eye
The Anatomy of a 9 Diamond Triangle Top String
To truly appreciate the 9 diamond triangle top string, it’s essential to understand its structure. This stringing technique consists of several key components:
- The base 9 diamond top string
- Triangular reinforcement patterns
- Integration with the sidewall strings
By weaving these elements together, stringers create a complex and functional design that enhances both the performance and appearance of the lacrosse stick.
Advantages of the 9 Diamond Triangle Top String
Why might a player or stringer choose to implement this advanced technique? The 9 diamond triangle top string offers several notable benefits:
Enhanced Aesthetics
One of the primary draws of this stringing style is its visual appeal. The triangular pattern adds a layer of complexity and sophistication to the stick’s appearance, making it stand out on the field.
Improved Structural Support
Beyond looks, the 9 diamond triangle top string provides functional advantages. How does it reinforce the stick’s structure?
- It strengthens the connection between the sidewall and top string
- Reduces gaps that can occur in standard stringing patterns
- Enhances overall pocket stability
Challenges of the 9 Diamond Triangle Top String
While the benefits are significant, it’s important to consider the potential drawbacks of this stringing technique:
Increased Difficulty
The complexity of the 9 diamond triangle top string makes it challenging for beginners. It requires a solid understanding of basic stringing principles and precise execution.
Time Investment
Due to its intricate nature, this stringing method often takes longer to complete than simpler alternatives. Stringers must be prepared to invest additional time and patience in the process.
Step-by-Step Guide to Stringing a 9 Diamond Triangle Top String
For those ready to tackle this advanced technique, here’s a detailed walkthrough of the stringing process:
- Begin by anchoring the string to the first diamond in the 10D row
- Pass the string through the top hole from front to back
- Weave the string through the space between the sidewall string and the diamond
- Bring the string back through the top hole from back to front
- Pass the string under the adjacent diamond on the back side
- Repeat steps 2-5 to create the triangular pattern
Remember, practice makes perfect. Don’t be discouraged if your first attempts aren’t flawless – even experienced stringers continually refine their technique.
Customizing Your 9 Diamond Triangle Top String
Once you’ve mastered the basic technique, you can explore variations to suit your playing style or aesthetic preferences. Consider experimenting with:
- Altering the tension of the triangular patterns
- Incorporating different color combinations
- Adjusting the placement of the triangles along the top string
These customizations allow you to create a truly unique stick that reflects your personality and playing style.
Maintenance and Care for Your 9 Diamond Triangle Top String
To ensure your meticulously strung stick maintains its performance and appearance, proper care is essential. Here are some tips for maintaining your 9 diamond triangle top string:
- Regularly inspect the string for signs of wear or fraying
- Clean your stick after each use to prevent dirt buildup
- Store your stick in a cool, dry place to avoid warping or damage
- Consider re-stringing periodically to maintain optimal performance
By following these maintenance practices, you can extend the life of your stringing and ensure consistent play on the field.
Comparing the 9 Diamond Triangle to Other Top String Techniques
How does the 9 diamond triangle top string stack up against other popular stringing methods? Let’s compare it to some common alternatives:
Traditional 9 Diamond Top String
The standard 9D top string is simpler to execute and may be sufficient for many players. However, it lacks the additional reinforcement and unique aesthetics of the triangle variation.
Hidden 9 Diamond Top String
This technique offers a cleaner look by concealing the top string, but it doesn’t provide the same level of structural support as the triangle method.
6 Diamond Top String
While easier to string, the 6D top string generally offers less control and precision compared to 9D variations.
Ultimately, the choice between these techniques depends on your skill level, playing style, and personal preferences.

1.9 diamond triangle topstring

1
2 9 diamond top string
3 9 diamond triangle top string
4 sidewall string start
5 skip
6 ak
3のtriangleがないと、4でスタートするときに隙間が空きやすくなってしまいます。
なので、もしtriangleなしで編むのであれば、自分なら以下のように編みます。
1
2 9 diamond top string
3 sidewall string start
4 skip
5 skip
6 ak

Electric Guitar String Thickness Guide
There are now so many different electric guitar strings available that any unprepared person on a visit to a major music store can have a nervous breakdown due to futile attempts to choose the right strings for themselves among hundreds of multi-colored boxes with a bunch of incomprehensible numbers on them.
-42.
We are only interested in the 6 digits on the left: 9-11-16-24-32-42.
This is nothing more than an indication of the thickness of the strings in the set. And the extreme numbers 9 and 42 are the thickness of the 1st and 6th strings. Usually, for simplicity, these two numbers indicate the caliber. That is, you can come to the store, just say 9-42 and any seller will immediately understand what you need.
Since the first mass-produced electric guitar strings were mass-produced in the United States, string thicknesses are given in thousandths of an inch. For example number 9means that string #1 is 0.009 US inches thick, 42 is 0.042 inches thick, and so on.
The most pedantic company in the world, D’Addario, also lists the thickness of the strings in the generally accepted metric system in millimeters, and even the tension of each string in US pounds and kilograms. A very meticulous and detailed guide has been written on this topic.
But this is very rare for string manufacturers and hardly has any practical meaning, since the tension force is a very relative value and can differ significantly on different types of guitars with different scales and string fastening systems.
Electric guitar strings for beginners.
8-38 is an excellent choice for beginners and anyone who has not yet grown calluses.
Even some high-speed technical virtuosos play on this caliber, because the thinner the string, the smaller the vibration amplitude and you can achieve a clearer and faster playing.
9-42 is one of the most popular calibers. Reasonable balance between tension and power, especially at Fender’s 25.5″ scale. Often, this caliber is factory-installed on Fender electric guitars.
9-46 is a transitional hybrid set between 9-42 and 10-46. You can also play the riffs well and give bright solos without really straining. Good for Floyd Rose guitars (same as 9-42). Many great virtuosos play this caliber, such as Joe Satriani.
9.5-44 is a very interesting hybrid from D’Addario. If you are too soft at 9-42 and too hard at 10-46, this may be the panacea.
Regular guitar strings.
10-38 is GHS’ most mysterious electric guitar gauge to date.
10-46 – the legendary ten that turned the whole guitar world upside down (for more details, see the article about the Ernie Ball company). The golden mean in the world of guitar calibers is the most popular and versatile set of our time. Most professionals choose it.
Powerful bass combined with transparent highs and optimal tension.
10-48 is David Gilmour’s favorite Strat set.
10.5-50 – on a Gibson, David prefers to set it thicker.
10-52 is another hybrid. It produces an excellent powerful sound, but it is hardly suitable for beginners. Recommended for experienced guitarists who already know what they want in this life. This is my favorite telecaster set, although it fits just about any guitar. You can safely lower the system by half a tone and not lose tension and sound power (for playing, for example, many original compositions of the 80s and 90s). You can play Drop Re or make Open G and bring down country – it all depends on your imagination.
10-54 – the legendary B.B. King used just such a caliber on his Lucille.
10-60 is an original drop set from the great and terrible Zakk Wylde.
Strings for professionals.
11-48 Ernie Ball Base Set 11. Fits organically on guitars with a scale of 24.75″, then the tension will be almost like 10-46 on a Strat.
11-49 – about the same in the Elixir and D’addario versions.
11-50 – GHS also decided to stand out somehow and therefore made the 6th string even thicker in its set.
In principle, there is some sense in this.
11-52 – but we will still be thicker! Marketers said Dean Markley and won this senseless race. Well, let’s be happy for them. Good bass never hurt anyone.
11-54 – this caliber with thick thick strings was invented relatively recently in the 90s by Ernie Ball. Optimized for low tunings such as Drop Re.
11-70 is another gift for lovers of sophisticated BDSM from Mr. Wilde.
Ticket to the closed club “My neck was also twisted with a corkscrew.”
How to learn to play jazz.
12-52 – Buy this set first. Beautiful warm and powerful sound and maximum inconvenience when playing, especially if you are a beginner. True, modern fans of matcore and other djent have learned to lower the system and combine a very fat sound with a full-fledged playing ability.
For playing in standard tuning, it is best to use electric guitars with a short scale of 24.75”, for example jazz semi-acoustics.
12-54 is a good option from D’Addario.
12-56 – The name Not Even Slinky speaks for itself. Indeed, there is no smell of Slinky here.
For drop Do or B.
12-60 – All members of the Cleartone board also love to get together on cold winter evenings and cut in the drop.
12-68 – for 27″ scale baritone electric guitars. It is not very recommended to put on a regular guitar.
Low tuning strings.
13-56 – main target audience: forest giants from Tolkien’s fairy tales. Since the calories expended for swinging these bridge ropes do not fit well with the size of the monetary reward of the average jazzman in the country of Ukraine. For VERY low tunings only.
13-62 – Light and baritone seem to be mutually exclusive concepts. D’Addario disagrees.
13-65 – nice try DR, but we’re not surprised by that.
13-70 – but with this set you will definitely not get bored. For Drop Do or C.
13-72 Ernie Ball version for baritone. You can also try Drop La. Just be very careful.
14-55 – Rumor has it that George Benson himself played on them. These strings are usually flatwound and cost the same as a half guitar. Because this is Thomastik, and not some crap from a Chinese flea market.
14-68 – for baritone only.
14-80 – Infernal Hell. Used to banish Satan. To put this set on a guitar, you will most likely have to bore your poor peg. Since most tuning heads make a hole no larger than 0.068-0.070 inches. Finally, there is a very likely risk of deformation and neck folding, especially on budget instruments. Whether all these torments are worth it to still play 10 minutes in the La/Sol Drop is up to you.
My 7-string guitar…
9-52, 10-56, 11-58 are the most popular 7-string electric guitar kits.
Simply add a thicker string to your 6-string pre-sets and you’re done.
But there are many other variations.
9-53, 9-64, 10-64, 10-70, 11-70 – Labella excels especially in this field.
9-58, 9-62, 10-60, 11-64, 13-74 – and its main competitor GHS.
9-54, 10-59, 11-65 – USA’s largest string maker D’Addario smokes nervously in the corner, as does Dean Markley.
10-62 is a very interesting hybrid from Ernie Ball. And not simple – but with a super-coiled cobalt alloy.
This alloy has much better magnetic interaction with the pickups, resulting in a much fatter sound, which is of paramount importance in any heavy style of music.
Today you play jazz, tomorrow…everyone plays djent!
9-65 is our winner for the most useless and stupid 8 string set.
9-80 – if you throw out a nine, something sensible may come out.
10-74 – you can finally start making djent right now.
10-75 – jjjj!
10-76 – not enough overload, must be added.
10-80 – what happens if you omit the 8th string?
11-80 – finally DR managed to do something useful!
11-85 – further reading can seriously damage your psyche. we warned you…
9-90 – Is this really for playing the guitar??
9-105 – all the bassists cry and go home.
And if your guitar has more than nine strings, then you were deceived and slipped a sitar.
Please accept our sincere condolences.
The exception is rare 12-string electric guitars for which there are only a couple of types of sets with an extremely intricate calibration system.
e.g. 8-8, 10-10, 14-8, 24w-11, 32-17, 40-22 .
This choice of gauges is due to the fact that some strings are tuned into octaves, and some simply duplicate each other. The result is a beautiful Chorus type delay effect.
The only thing that can be said for sure is that if you were able to tune a 12-string guitar yourself, then you absolutely do not need to read such articles: you risk being late for your own concert.
