Youth Lacrosse Equipment for Girls
Have you been wondering what girls youth lacrosse equipment you need? We are going to tell you all about what you really need to start playing youth lacrosse. We will tell you a little bit about each piece of equipment and why they are important. We will also give you a few recommendations for our favorite youth lacrosse equipment that we know your girls will love!
What Equipment Do You Need to Play Lacrosse?
Starting any new sport can be an expensive investment. You want to be sure you have high quality lacrosse equipment but you also may not want to spend a ton of money and buy unnecessary things. Here is a very quick look at what you need to start playing girls lacrosse at a beginner level:
- Girls lacrosse stick
- Mouth guard
- Goggles
- Youth lacrosse cleats
- Lacrosse ball
Five pieces of equipment and you are ready to go! But let’s talk a little bit more about each piece of girls lacrosse equipment and why you need it.
1. Girls Lacrosse Stick
You can’t play lacrosse without a lacrosse stick! This may be the most important piece of youth lacrosse equipment. Be sure to look for a girls lacrosse stick which is different from a boys lacrosse stick. Girls sticks have a shallower pocket that will catch and throw differently from a boys stick.
When you are first starting out in youth lacrosse, you can easily get away with a good beginners stick. Look for one that comes with both the stick and pre-strung lacrosse stick head sold together. You can always upgrade your stick later on.
Check out our article about the best lacrosse sticks to see which is best for you. Our girls beginner lacrosse stick article also reviews all the starter sticks and will guide you toward and affordable girls lacrosse stick perfect for new platers. Here are our three favorite girls youth lacrosse stick options.

2. Mouthguard
A good youth mouthguard will help protect your teeth during play.
Lacrosse balls are hard and sometimes accidents happen. You want to protect your teeth and your mouth from injury. A good mouthguard is the best way to do this! Mouthguards are also required for players in all youth lacrosse games.
Be sure to get a youth mouthguard which is sized for kids. We like mouthguards which can be boiled and custom fitted. These provide the most comfort and protection. Here are our favorite kids mouthguards for lacrosse:

3. Goggles
Just like a mouthguard protects your mouth, goggles will protect your eyes. Goggles are also required and all players on the field must have a pair of lacrosse goggles. It may take a while to get use to wearing lacrosse goggles so try them on and make sure the straps are fitted properly before heading out to the field. A good pair of youth lacrosse goggles will last quite a while so pick a color you love! Here are our favorite girls lacrosse goggles:

4.
Youth Lacrosse Cleats
Girls need to have proper footwear in order to play lacrosse. Lacrosse is played outside on a field or turf which can be slippery. Wearing cleats will help you dig into the ground, enabling you to run faster, play harder and prevent falls.
Lacrosse cleats are typically unisex, working for both boys and girls. At a younger level, soccer cleats will work for playing lacrosse and may be easier to find. True lacrosse cleats come up higher than soccer cleats to give more ankle support. Here are our favorite girls lacrosse cleats that will really help you play the game:

5. Lacrosse Ball
You can’t play lacrosse without a ball! Having at least one ball in your home will allow you to practice when not with your team. Keep a ball in your lacrosse backpack and you will always be ready to go! Take a look at these cool lacrosse balls and pick your favorite one.

Girls Lacrosse Goalie Equipment
If you plan on playing the goalie position, you will need a few pieces of extra equipment.
While a goalie still needs youth lacrosse cleats and a lacrosse ball, everything else is different. Being a goalie is super special! Here is the equipment needed for a girls lacrosse goalie:
- Lacrosse helmet
- Goalie chest protector
- Lacrosse goalie gloves
- Lacrosse goalie shin guards
- Mouthpiece
- Lacrosse elbow pads
- Girls youth lacrosse goalie stick
You may also want to consider getting a good duffle bag to hold all of this equipment! It is a lot, but it will ensure you stay safe.
Girls Lacrosse Equipment Extras
All of the youth lacrosse equipment we listed above is essential for playing girls lacrosse. However, there are a few extras you may want to consider getting. You may also want to pick up:
- Girls lacrosse gloves– These will especially help in the late fall, winter and early spring when playing outside can be cold.
- Lacrosse backpack– A nice lacrosse backpack will help you store all of your equipment.
Look for a lacrosse backpack that has a stick holder strap on the outside so you also can easily carry your stick! - Girls lacrosse helmet– While helmets are not required for girls lacrosse just yet, you may want to invest in one. A helmet will help protect your head, eyes and mouth. It is the ultimate way to stay safe while playing lacrosse.
- A good water bottle– Lacrosse is a non stop sport and you need to stay hydrated. A good water bottle is necessary and is something you will use every game and ever practice.
Grab all your lacrosse equipment online and keep your team’s color in mind when you choose your youth lacrosse equipment. You want to match your team colors and keep the lacrosse travel team spirit going!

Do you have more questions about girls lacrosse equipment? Feel free to send us a message and we will get back to you ASAP! In the meantime, here are a few frequently asked questions and answers to help you out.
Do girls need cleats for lacrosse?
Yes. Girls do need cleats for lacrosse. They will help prevent slipping and falling on slick grass fields. At a younger level, any kind of soccer or lacrosse cleat will work. As girls get older, they should have a good pair of lacrosse cleats which come up higher to give ankle support.
What girls should bring to lacrosse practice?
Everything on our lacrosse equipment list should be brought to practice. This includes a lacrosse stick, goggles, mouth guard, cleats and a bag to carry it all. Also bring a water bottle and some cold water to stay hydrated.
How long should a girls lax stick be?
A girls youth lacrosse stick will be from 35.5 inches to 43.25 inches. The pocket will be from 7 to 9 inches wide. Most girls youth lacrosse sticks can be cut to be perfectly sized. Have the player hold the stick in their hand at the base of the stick head. The stick should be the same length as the player’s arm, not going past their shoulder.
Check out this awesome video that explains how to cut a girls lacrosse stick so that it is the perfect length.

★ Our Reviews
Exceed expectations
My isn’t was not a fan of me getting a machine, but this was low enough that maybe if it didn’t get he would get so upset.
I use a jackery 1000 pro to run it which actually increases the speed 1 mph faster than plugged into a regular outlet. Does it hit 50 no but 49 is close enough (pocket radar was used) . The ball feeder only holds 8 balls not 9 so it does go rather quick but the machine works just as good as the jug machine I used in 2006 that a higher one at that time. For the cost and an auto feed for 500 is pretty darn amazing. Light compared to other companies and packs fairly small. We pack it in a wagon with balls bags gloves etc and roll on down to the back fields with ease. Couldn’t be any happier it fits more of my needs that I didn’t even knew I needed such as the reason… so I don’t have to load it into the truck like people would have to do with other brands.
Good price and service
The price was good, and they were quick in answering questions I had. I received the stringer within about a week of purchase. The website could add information about shipping and estimate the time of delivery
Mario does a great job!
Exactly as -advertised and with free shipping no one else was offering.
