How is high school lacrosse developing in South Carolina. What recent achievements have South Carolina lacrosse teams accomplished. Which players are making waves in the state’s lacrosse scene. How does South Carolina lacrosse compare to other regions.
South Carolina’s Triumph at the USA Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament
In a remarkable display of skill and teamwork, a South Carolina girls’ high school all-star lacrosse team clinched the Blue Division title at the prestigious USA Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament. This event, which showcases over 800 of the nation’s top high school girls’ lacrosse players, was held in Towson, Maryland, coinciding with the 2021 NCAA Lacrosse championships.
The Palmetto State stars demonstrated their prowess by maintaining an impressive 4-0 record throughout the tournament. They secured victories against formidable opponents from New York, Arizona, and Northern California in the preliminary rounds. The team’s crowning achievement came in the form of a decisive 10-6 win over Florida Gulf Coast in the championship match.
Bishop England’s Dominant Presence
The success of the South Carolina team was significantly bolstered by the strong representation from Bishop England High School. Seven players from this powerhouse program contributed to the victory:
- Frankie Poch
- Olivia Head
- Elisabeth Tausig
- Ryley Dengler
- Henley Bredemann
- Evelyn Kitchin
- Bo Rosato
This impressive showing underscores Bishop England’s dominance in the state’s lacrosse scene, having secured their fifth consecutive state championship earlier in the spring.
Rising Star: Henley Bredemann
Among the standout performances, Bishop England’s rising sophomore Henley Bredemann left an indelible mark on the tournament. In the Blue Division championship match, Bredemann’s exceptional play resulted in five goals, spearheading South Carolina’s victory. Her clutch performance, scoring back-to-back goals to overturn an early deficit, showcased her potential as a future star in the sport.
Coach Jeff Weiner, who served on the selection committee for the all-star team, praised Bredemann’s development: “She started from day 1. I think she wanted to play midfield, but we moved her to attack. She’s a big tough kid who improved throughout the season and then had the game of her life in the championship in Maryland.”
The Growing Landscape of South Carolina High School Lacrosse
The success at the national tournament highlights the rapid development of lacrosse in South Carolina. While traditionally seen as a sport dominated by northern states, the Palmetto State is making significant strides in closing the gap.
Coach Weiner, a Long Island native with experience coaching in both regions, offers valuable insight into this progress: “This was a big step for South Carolina, but we still have a way to go. But the teams and talent here is definitely getting better.”
Bridging the North-South Divide
The performance of South Carolina’s all-star team at the national level serves as a testament to the growing quality of lacrosse in the state. It demonstrates that southern teams can compete with and defeat traditionally strong programs from lacrosse hotbeds like New York.
This success is likely to inspire more young athletes in South Carolina to take up the sport, potentially leading to even greater achievements in the future. As the talent pool deepens and coaching expertise expands, South Carolina is positioning itself as an emerging force in the national lacrosse landscape.
Recognizing Excellence: All-State Selections
The South Carolina High School Lacrosse Coaches Association recently announced its all-state teams, further highlighting the depth of talent within the state. Bishop England, unsurprisingly, featured prominently in these selections.
First Team All-State Honorees
- Elisabeth Tausig – Attack
- Victoria Roe – Defense
- Coco Pampu – Defense
- Lizzy Tompkins – Goalkeeper
These first-team selections underscore Bishop England’s well-rounded strength, with representatives in attack, defense, and goalkeeping positions.
Second Team All-State Selections
Bishop England’s depth was further evidenced by multiple players earning second-team all-state honors. This recognition not only celebrates individual achievements but also speaks to the overall quality of the program and its ability to develop talent across all positions.
The Impact of Experienced Coaching
The success of South Carolina lacrosse, particularly at Bishop England, can be attributed in part to the influence of experienced coaches like Jeff Weiner. His background in Long Island, a traditional lacrosse stronghold, has brought valuable knowledge and tactics to the Lowcountry.
Weiner’s commitment to developing the sport extends beyond his own team. Having coached at multiple schools, including Wando, he has played a crucial role in elevating the overall standard of lacrosse in the region. His advocacy for the sport, regardless of school affiliation, has contributed to the rising tide of lacrosse talent in South Carolina.
The Future of South Carolina Lacrosse
The recent success at the national level, combined with the continued dominance of programs like Bishop England, paints an optimistic picture for the future of lacrosse in South Carolina. As the sport gains popularity and resources, several key developments are likely to shape its trajectory:
Increased Participation
The high-profile achievements of South Carolina teams and players are likely to inspire more students to take up lacrosse. This broader participation base will create a more competitive environment and potentially uncover even more talented players.
Improved Infrastructure
As the sport grows, there may be increased investment in lacrosse-specific facilities and training programs. This could include dedicated lacrosse fields, specialized coaching clinics, and youth development programs.
College Recruitment Opportunities
With South Carolina players proving their mettle on the national stage, college recruiters may pay more attention to the state’s talent pool. This could lead to more scholarship opportunities for local players and further motivation for young athletes to excel in the sport.
Challenges and Opportunities in South Carolina Lacrosse
While the recent successes are cause for celebration, the development of lacrosse in South Carolina is not without its challenges. Addressing these issues will be crucial for the continued growth and success of the sport in the state.
Expanding Beyond Traditional Powerhouses
One challenge lies in expanding the success seen at schools like Bishop England to a broader range of institutions across the state. This may require initiatives to introduce and develop lacrosse programs in schools that currently don’t offer the sport.
Bridging the Resource Gap
Lacrosse can be an equipment-intensive sport, which may pose barriers to entry for some schools and individual players. Finding ways to make the sport more accessible, possibly through equipment donation programs or community initiatives, could help broaden participation.
Developing Coaching Talent
As the sport grows, there will be an increased need for qualified coaches who understand the nuances of lacrosse. Implementing coaching development programs and potentially bringing in experienced coaches from traditional lacrosse regions could help accelerate this process.
The Role of Community Support in Lacrosse Development
The growth of lacrosse in South Carolina is not solely dependent on schools and athletic associations. Community support plays a crucial role in the sport’s development and can take various forms:
Youth Leagues and Clinics
Establishing and supporting youth lacrosse leagues and clinics can help introduce the sport to children at a younger age. This early exposure can create a pipeline of talent for high school programs and build a stronger lacrosse culture in communities.
Booster Clubs and Fundraising
Active booster clubs and community fundraising efforts can help provide additional resources for lacrosse programs. These funds can be used for equipment, travel to tournaments, and other expenses that might otherwise be prohibitive for some schools or players.
Local Business Sponsorships
Engaging local businesses as sponsors for teams or tournaments can provide financial support and raise the profile of lacrosse within the community. This mutually beneficial relationship can help sustain and grow lacrosse programs across the state.
Leveraging Technology in Lacrosse Development
In the modern sports landscape, technology plays an increasingly important role in athlete development and team strategy. South Carolina lacrosse programs can leverage various technological tools to enhance their performance and attract more participants:
Video Analysis Software
Utilizing advanced video analysis software can help coaches and players break down game footage, identify areas for improvement, and study opponents’ strategies. This technology can be particularly valuable in accelerating player development and tactical understanding.
Social Media and Online Platforms
Leveraging social media and online platforms can help promote the sport, share highlights, and connect the lacrosse community across the state. These tools can be particularly effective in raising awareness about the sport and celebrating local successes.
Virtual Training and Coaching
With the advent of virtual coaching platforms, South Carolina players and coaches can potentially access expertise from around the country. This could include online clinics, one-on-one virtual coaching sessions, or access to training programs developed by top coaches and players.
As South Carolina continues to make strides in the world of high school lacrosse, the combination of talented athletes, dedicated coaches, community support, and strategic use of technology positions the state for continued growth and success. The recent national tournament victory serves as both a milestone and a launching pad for the future of lacrosse in the Palmetto State.

BE girls lacrosse players share national tournament title
A South Carolina girls’ high school all-star lacrosse team, which had a heavy dose of Bishop England talent, won the Blue Division of the USA Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament. The event featured more than 800 of the top high school girls’ lacrosse players in the country.
The Palmetto State stars won their division with a 4-0 record with victories over teams from New York, Arizona and Northern California in the preliminary round, and then topped Florida Gulf Coast 10-6 in the championship of the event, which was played in Towson, Maryland, the site of the 2021 NCAA Lacrosse championships
The South Carolina team had a roster of 22 players and the Lowcountry was well represented with the seven Bishop England players: Frankie Poch, Olivia Head, Elisabeth Tausig, Ryley Dengler, Henley Bredemann, Evelyn Kitchin and Bo Rosato.
The other players from the Lowcountry who played in the tourney included Kayla Fergus and Anne Edens from Lucy Beckham High School, Ava deLyra and Madison Woods of Wando and Claire Oldford of Porter-Gaud.
In the Blue Division championship match, Bredemann, a Bishop England rising sophomore, dazzled all in attendance with five goals to lead the Palmetto State to the championship. Gulf Coast scored first, but Bredemann answered with back-to-back goals and South Carolina never trailed again.
Bredemann’s BE teammate Anne Edens added a pair of goals for South Carolina.
Bishop England coach Jeff Weiner, who was on the selection committee that picked the all-star team, had high praise for Bredemann, who helped Bishop England High School win its fifth consecutive state championship this spring with four goals in the state championship against Oceanside Collegiate Academy.
“She started from day 1,” Weiner said of Bredemann. “I think she wanted to play midfield, but we moved her to attack. She’s a big tough kid who improved throughout the season and then had the game of her life in the championship in Maryland.”
Weiner is a Long Island native who moved to the Lowcountry about a decade ago. In 2013 he coached BE in the state championship and then flew to New York the next day to help his daughter, Abigail Zeltmann, coach the Hauppauge High School team.
Hauppauge is located in Suffolk County and is one of the top teams on Long Island.
His experience up north has helped many Lowcountry teams become better programs. He also coached at Wando and is an advocate of the sport despite your school colors.
“This was a big step for South Carolina, but we still have a way to go,” Weiner said of high school lacrosse in the South vs. North. “But the teams and talent here is definitely getting better.”
Meanwhile, the South Carolina High School Lacrosse Coaches Association announced its all-state teams and BE is well represented.
Tausig was named first team all-state attack while Victoria Roe and Coco Pampu were all-state defense. Lizzy Tompkins was all-state as a keeper.
Bishop England’s second-team all-state selections included Kitchin, Poch, Dengler, and Annie Dhabliwa and Bredemann.
Two players from the state champion BE boys’ team earned all-state: Robert Pilla and Dennis Treasurer.

Our experts are certified representatives of the National Career Development Association (NCDA) . It is the national organization of the United States that accumulates official data on the world labor market and trains career consultants.
IQ Consultancy has completed a career counseling program that includes 17 thematic blocks, over 120 hours of training led by international professionals and over 4,000 materials and resources.
Option 1. Setting the target
- 1 consultation
Will suit you if you have already decided who you want to work, but do not know how promising the chosen specialty is in America.
For example, you are planning a career in the film industry and are choosing between the profession of a cameraman and a producer.You need to find out which of the two specialties is more in demand and better paid, what education you need to get and how easy it will be to find a good job in the USA.
Following the meeting, you will learn:
- complete information about the chosen specialty;
- how many jobs exist now and how many there will be when you start your career;
- what salary you can count on;
- what kind of education you need to get for this and how long it will take;
- in which US universities are best to receive this specialty.
We will also provide a comparative analysis of two professions within the chosen specialty (if you have several options).
Option 2. Goal setting + planning
- 4 consultations
Suitable for you if you do not know what you want to do in the future.
For example, you are in high school and are planning to go to a US university.You have to choose a future profession, but you do not have special talents or pronounced inclinations. Parents advise studying finance because it is promising, but you have no interest in this area. You want to know who to be.
Based on the results of the work, you will learn:
- What is your personality type and what spheres of activity suit you;
- what specialty suits you and where you can get it;
- how to achieve professional goals and how long it will take.
How we can help you make your choice
- Let’s define the personality type . With the help of special testing, we will find out how you interact with family and friends, what your desires, hobbies and habits are, what your character and other personal qualities are.
- We will identify your strengths and weaknesses , we will find out what motivates you. A person who cares about freedom of decision-making and creativity will not be able to succeed in a profession that requires strict regulations.
- Define the competency area in which you can excel. For example, these can be public speaking, critical thinking, problem solving, organizational skills, and so on.
- Let’s list professions suitable for you. The list will include about 100 specialties that require exactly those qualities, skills and abilities that are inherent in you.For each profession, we will make a detailed description indicating the tasks that you will need to solve every day, the knowledge and skills that you will need.
- Let’s create a shortlist of professions . Together with you, we will analyze all options and focus on several specialties. This will be our starting point for the selection of a university.
- Let’s choose 3 universities .Taking into account all the data, we will compile a list of three universities where the program is best taught and provides the best conditions for realizing your abilities.
- We will fill out the documents and submit an application , prepare for the entrance tests.
Leave your contacts or call us to sign up for a session.
