2021 Counselor in Training (CIT) Leadership Program (entering grades 9-12)
Our Counselor in Training program is designed to help teens develop leadership, character and the skills needed to work with youth. Participants must apply for the CIT program and are selected through an interview process. Teens must attend a required CIT Training Academy before the start of camp. Once you register for the Training Academy, you will receive a confirmation email with your CIT application packet. Once we receive and review your completed application, you will be notified if you were selected. If selected, teens must participate in a minimum of two weeks of CIT camp. LEVEL 4: DEVELOP – July 11 – 15, 2021
A positive high school experience hinges on developing essential leadership skills. This high school program is designed for students who want to learn the necessary skills to become a leader in their school or increase their effectiveness as a leader. Level 4 curriculum is high-energy and focused on developing interpersonal skills, group processes, communication skills, problem solving techniques and planning/evaluation procedures.
LEVEL 5: EMPOWER – July 11 – 15, 2021
Responsibilities continue to increase for high school students: at school, at a job, in the sports arena, or at home. Student leaders need the ability to adapt to a variety of circumstances depending on the demands of the group or task. The Level 5 curriculum examines what causes this range of needs and gives participants the skills to adapt and react to each. The result will empower delegates to recognize which style of leadership is most appropriate in any given circumstance, leading them to success.
LEVEL 6: REACH – July 11 – 15, 2021
This culminating program provides opportunities to revisit all ten of our leadership standards. With a special emphasis on character and ethical decision-making, delegates will utilize a self-directed approach to practicing essential skills needed for life in high school and beyond. Through numerous activities, they will expand their reach to include not only their school organizations, but also to their communities, and perhaps, to the world

For our camps, students will be led by camp staff in activities dedicated to understanding what it means to be a leader. With proven curriculum as the foundation, and unparalleled talent leading each camp, delegates agree that this program is “the most significant learning experience in my life to-date!”
- Banquet: The delegates get dressed up for this special affair, where they dine in their finery while listening to inspiring speeches by their fellow delegates.
- Speaking Opportunities: There are numerous opportunities for students to work on their presentation skills — and one evening where individuals from each group are asked to address the entire delegation.
- Picnic: An outdoor event that includes games, food, and fun. A great way to connect with new friends at the mid-point of the week.
- Recreation: Recreation opportunities vary by camp, but include swimming, volleyball, tennis, running clubs, socializing and more!
- Evening Closings: Each day ends with inspiring stories and songs — lead by adult and junior counselors. The perfect way to end a day.

Following the completion online form you will be automatically brought to the credit card payment form if you chose that method of payment. - Develop their own project for their neighborhood (such as TreePeople or Helping at an Animal Shelter)

Looking for ways to impact your community? In support of our Summer Teen Initiative, Give Summer, we are inviting Teens to apply to be Leaders-In-Training for our licensed-exempt day camps.
Interested teens would be interviewed and vetted by our Regional Teen Department and if successful, would then be invited to complete the online training. Once that is completed, the Regional Teen Department will reach out to the participating branches to see if they are interested in accepting the Teen Leader-In-Training to assist a few hours a week at a branch day camp center.

Teen Lead Program at the Ketchum Downtown YMCA
(Leadership, Exercise, and Academic Development)
Teen Lead is after-school program that focuses on public service, academic achievement, environmental awareness, character development and physical fitness for 7th-12th graders. During this 8-week course, participants meet once a week, are required to attend at least two workshops and volunteer at least one YMCA sanctioned event to receive credit or 30 hours or leadership/community hours.
From this program teens gain:
- Self-confidence by learning to accept and overcome challenges
- Self-esteem by creating a solid network of friends and growing into role models for their peers
- Involvement in community service projects
- Support to finish high school and prepare for college
- Life skills workshops to prepare them for a positive future

We recommend the following programs for students seeking to improve their leadership skills and portfolio as primary goals of attending camp:
Parents often call our home office to ask whether we offer leadership programs. While we do offer our A+ Summer Leadership course with the word “leadership” in the actual program name, many of Education Unlimited®‘s other summer camps and programs develop leadership skills with substantial depth.
Enthusiasm for leadership is a universal goal of leadership programs but frankly is a fairly low bar of accomplishment. Education Unlimited®‘s leadership programs go far beyond promoting a general sense of enthusiasm for the idea of being a leader, and instead help students develop a sense of confidence and of perspective such that leadership is seen not as the exclusive goal in and of itself, but rather as a means to greater accomplishment in one’s life, a tool for personal empowerment, and as a springboard to provide meaningful service to one’s community.

Campers will play in a concert band throughout the week. Sectionals and masterclasses

I had four children, two sons, Bill and John, and twin daughters, Mary Lee and Jane. My daughters are blind and, from the start, I instilled in them a strength of purpose. When the twins were about eleven, the Camp Fire Girls accepted them as regular members. They joined with the understanding that they would be expected to take part in the same activities as everybody else. On overnight hikes, they would joke with their fellow campers, ‘What do you mean you’re afraid of the dark? There’s nothing to it!’

The American Red Cross Los Angeles Region Leadership Development Camp (LDC) is an annual youth camp that gathers more than a hundred delegates in the San Bernardino mountains for a week each August. Summer of 2019 marked the 71st anniversary of the Leadership Development Camp, demonstrating the firm and lasting commitment of the Red Cross to train and empower future humanitarian leaders in communities around Los Angeles.
For five days, high school and college students build confidence and cultivate core leadership skills such as teamwork, public speaking, and diversity/cultural understanding. These skills can be applied on school campuses and later in life.
Throughout the week, Red Cross youth volunteers and staff members create sessions and activities that reinforce delegates’ individual and team leadership skills. The youth come back from camp each year as stronger individuals. Delegates form friendships that can last a lifetime, and moreover, they will become leaders who make a difference in their schools and communities.
2020 camp will be August 3 – 7. Applications for LDC 2020 will be available March 1 – July 10.

LDC programs focus on actively teaching valuable skills for delegates to use in their educational and professional careers. The programs, which are updated each year in regards to contemporary issues and trends, are designed and implemented by alumni and students from across the LA Region.
LDC delegates learn fundraising, marketing, and time management/planning skills. Core leadership skills are a focus in an active environment – sessions and activities are about doing. There are no lectures! That’s an LDC standard.
Expect to expand your world by sharing experiences with youth from all over Southern California. Be prepared to open your mind and learn something new about yourself and about what’s going on in the world. Discover what you can do to make a positive impact in your life and in your community.

Continuous Youth Leadership Model
What sets LDC apart from other youth camps, is that it is completely planned and staffed by high school and college youth. Past delegates are invited to apply and return as staffers, and past staffers, are invited to apply to become a part of the LDC advisory board. This model allows camp traditions to continue from cohort to cohort, as well as provide a space for youth to build on multiple layers of involvement and leadership lessons.
LDC advisory board members are the most senior camp participants, and the application for this position is only open to youth who have previously served as an LDC camp staffer. Advisory board members mentor and train staff to help them successfully organize the camp. The advisory board for this year has been chosen and applications for the 2021 advisory board will open in November 2020.
LDC staff are appointed in February through a screening process. To organize camp activities, staffers participate in at least three training sessions, a weekend retreat, and camp planning weekend organized by the advisory board between March and July.
All past LDC delegates are welcome to apply for a staff position.

Incoming freshmen may apply, but they will be required to complete an additional interview before acceptance to camp. This is an overnight camp. For 16 years, Big Change has been a vacation home for a huge number of children from more than 30 cities in Russia.Years of experience, planning, methodology and technology pump each of our recreation and development programs. We strive to improve our programs to take advantage of all the new opportunities in our world.
Our team
Since we have many job applications, Big Change has the ability to be very selective about shift recruiting and city programs. Sports instructors, teachers, technicians, counselors and even photographers have the experience, the desire to work in a children’s camp.A large percentage of our employees are our former children who return to work in their favorite camp. They carry the traditions and foundations of our camp through the years in a changing world.
For 16 years, about 600 employees from more than 20 countries have participated in spring, summer, autumn and winter shifts. Foreign counselors pass on their own and absorb Russian culture. This exchange is important to us. There are camps in St. Petersburg that have been established and successfully run by our former counselors. We enrich the camp community in St. Petersburg.We have our own school of counselors at the Russian State Pedagogical University. Herzen, the main pedagogical university of the country. The Big Change counselor team is recognized as the most professional in the counselor team competitions.
Family cozy atmosphere
We do our best to ensure that every child and parent is aware of all traditions and rules and feels comfortable, being part of our camp family. Our reputation is a camp for domestic children. We have a dedicated rookie support program.Mentors will answer all questions and guide you in the camp, help you prepare for the adventure.
Personal growth

Various programs throughout the year
You can find impressive shift programs in our camp that will interest children with different interests.
Autumn break is dedicated to British culture and English fairy tales and legends. Winter break is the time to stage musicals and celebrate Christmas. Spring break introduces participants to the cultural diversity of our planet and is dedicated to different countries. Summer is the time to immerse yourself in large topics – Space, Tourism, the Olympic movement or the history of our country.Many members come to us year after year, meeting new friends and keeping in touch with good old friends. Children learn to communicate with each person, master new skills and cope with any emotions. Children learn new sports and English – they are present at every program of the Big Change camp.
Shift participants
Children come to us mainly from St. Petersburg and Moscow, as well as from Samara, Novosibirsk, Izhevsk, Arkhangelsk, Nizhny Novgorod and other beautiful cities of our big country.They all study in different schools, come from different places and different families, but they are all united by the desire to spend the best vacation of their life, gaining new experiences in their lives.
Before the shift, we hold parenting meetings online and promptly answer all the parents’ questions. This motivates and inspires families and children to face an experience that, like a huge battery, will charge them with energy and positive emotions.
Camp
We have the best and most beloved site in the Leningrad Region.We have almost the only ones (there are also in Artek) organized a varied buffet. Our buildings are equipped with coolers and washing machines. They are comfortable to take a shower and put your clothes in order. The enclosures are full of board games and exercise equipment. Many swimmers appreciate our 25-meter pool, while athletes will appreciate the modern artificial soccer field, volleyball courts and ping-pong tables.

4.4. Receive information from the school administration on issues of school life;
4.5. To represent the interests of students in the school administration, at pedagogical councils, meetings dedicated to solving issues of school life;

4.7. Conduct polls and referendums among students that study the interests of students;
4.8. Send their representatives to work in the collegial governing bodies of the school;
4.9. Use the organizational support of school officials responsible for educational work in the preparation and conduct of student council events;
4.10. Submit to the school administration proposals for improving the educational process of the school;
4.11. Create printed organs;
4.12. Establish relationships and organize joint activities with student councils of other educational institutions;
4.13. Use office equipment, communications and other property of the school in agreement with the administration;

4.16. Participate in the formation of the composition of school delegations at events of the city level and above;

5. Procedure for the formation and structure of the student government council
5.1. The student government council is formed on an elective basis for a period of one year;
5.2. The student government council consists of students in grades 1-11, who are delegated by one representative per class;
5.3. The chairman of the student council is elected from among the members of the student government (students in grades 9-11) by direct vote.The chairman carries out executive, administrative and control functions;
5.4. The structure of the student government of the school: general meeting; Student Government Council; centers “Leisure”, “Sports”, “Legal”, “Information”; school classes; student.
5.4.1. General meeting. The general meeting is the supreme body of student self-government and is held at least once during the academic year. The decision of the general meeting is competent if it was attended by at least 1/3 of students of grades 1-11 (delegations from grades).
5.4.2. Student Government Council (Council). The local government council is the representative body of the student government of the school. The Student Government Council consists of representatives of grades 1-11, who are elected through direct voting at classroom student meetings. The main organizational form of the Council’s activity is a meeting held once a month. Meetings are held in public and are open in nature. The following centers are accountable to the Council: “Leisure”, “Sports”, “Legal”, “Information”.
5.4.3. Centers. The centers include representatives from the classes. The members of the centers elect a chairman. A curator is assigned to each center, who provides pedagogical support for the work of the centers: “Leisure” – the formation and development of organizational skills , organizing creative activities, ensuring the aesthetics of events, developing communication culture skills; “Sports” – assistance in organizing sports events, competitions; “Legal” – organizing school duty, labor, charitable, environmental actions; “Informational” – timely delivery of information reflecting the life of the school collective, the release of newspapers, information sheets, photographing of the events held.
The Council has the right to create temporary self-government bodies and endow them with the appropriate powers. The work of the Council is organized according to the plan for the year.
6. Final Provisions
6.1. This provision comes into force from the moment of approval;
6.2. Changes to this regulation are made by the school conference at the suggestion of the student council.

Socialist epilogue of the Buchenwald concentration camp
Last week, a permanent exhibition was opened on the territory of the former Nazi concentration camp Buchenwald, telling about the use of this concentration camp after 1945 by the Soviet occupation administration and the authorities of the GDR.
The Buchenwald concentration camp (in German it means “Beech Forest”), located in an idyllic area near Weimar, has long become synonymous with Nazi atrocities. The memorial complex, built at the direction of the East German government next to this concentration camp, was carefully stylized by the ideologists of the USSR and the GDR as a grandiose and tragic symbol of the anti-fascist struggle. According to the official version (it was strictly adhered to by the socialist propaganda of the GDR), after the prisoner uprising, which was organized by courageous and brave underground communists, the Buchenwald prisoners were released, and the camp itself was abolished.
In a unified Germany, the communist version of the camp’s history has been challenged. According to the results of research by historians from both West and East Germany, the operation of the concentration camp continued for a long time after the defeat of Nazi Germany. The Soviet occupation administration transformed KZ Buchenwald into a “Soviet special camp # 2 in Germany.” From 1945 to 1950, about 28 thousand people were imprisoned in the camp. About a quarter of these prisoners died from hunger, cold and disease.To date, German historians have been able to establish the names of 7113 prisoners buried during this period in the fields in the vicinity of the camp.
Most of the prisoners were arrested by the Soviet authorities in 1945. According to preliminary data from the FRG press, about 70% of those arrested belonged to the middle or lower levels of the NSDAP or were government officials in Germany who were accused of collaborating with the Nazis. However, among those arrested were also completely apolitical people, including women and children.Often the reason for the arrest was the suspicion that this or that teenager might maintain contact with the Nazi youth movement Werewolf, which had gone underground. The part of Suzanne was performed by Alexander Dobrolyubov, and the role of the count went to Kirill Afonin. A soloist was invited to participate in the play
