Fit and Comfort: A Game-Changing Experience
The Warrior Nemesis Pro chest protector sets a new standard for fit and comfort in lacrosse goalie gear. Despite its robust protective features, this chest pad offers an surprisingly ergonomic design that conforms exceptionally well to the goalie’s body.
How does the Nemesis Pro achieve such a comfortable fit? The secret lies in its innovative dual-strap system. These straps click into place and can be easily adjusted to match the contours of your torso. This design eliminates common issues found in other chest protectors, such as excess bulk or loose-fitting areas that can hinder movement.
One standout feature is the chest pad’s compatibility with throat guards. Warrior has carefully engineered the Nemesis Pro to accommodate the throat guard perfectly, ensuring it rests in the optimal position without interfering with the upper portion of the chest pad.
Versatility in Sizing
Although the Nemesis Pro is available in just two sizes, its adjustable strap system allows for a custom fit across a wide range of body types. This versatility makes it an excellent choice for goalies of various heights and weights, ensuring that players can find their ideal fit without the need for multiple size options.
Weight Considerations: Protection vs. Mobility
When it comes to weight, the Warrior Nemesis Pro leans towards the heavier side of the spectrum for lacrosse chest protectors. This additional weight is a direct result of its comprehensive protective features. However, the crucial question is: does this extra weight negatively impact performance?
For many goalies, the trade-off between weight and protection is well worth it. The Nemesis Pro strikes a balance that prioritizes safety without significantly compromising mobility. While it may not be the lightest option on the market, many players find that the added protection more than compensates for the slight increase in weight.
Comparison to Other Models
To put the Nemesis Pro’s weight into perspective, let’s compare it to some other popular chest protectors:
- Lighter than the Nemesis Pro: The Warrior Burn Pro chest pad offers a lighter option but with less overall protection.
- Heavier than the Nemesis Pro: The STX Shield 500 chest pad is noted to feel bulkier and heavier in comparison.
Ultimately, the choice between weight and protection comes down to personal preference and playing style. For goalies who prioritize maximum safety, the Nemesis Pro’s weight is a small price to pay for its superior protective qualities.
Unparalleled Protection: Setting a New Standard
The primary function of any chest protector is to keep the goalie safe from high-velocity shots, and in this regard, the Warrior Nemesis Pro truly excels. Many consider it to offer the highest level of protection among all chest protectors currently available in the lacrosse market.
What makes the Nemesis Pro’s protection so exceptional? Let’s break down its key protective features:
- Advanced impact-absorbing materials that dissipate the force of incoming shots
- Strategically placed reinforced zones in high-risk areas such as the sternum and ribs
- Flexible protective panels that move with the goalie’s body without compromising safety
- Extended coverage areas that protect vulnerable spots often left exposed by other chest pads
The combination of these features results in a chest protector that instills confidence in goalies, allowing them to focus on their performance without fear of injury from powerful shots.
Design and Aesthetics: Form Meets Function
While protection and comfort are paramount, the visual appeal of equipment can also play a role in a player’s confidence and overall satisfaction. The Warrior Nemesis Pro doesn’t disappoint in this area, boasting a sleek and modern design that looks as good as it performs.
Color Options and Customization
Does the Nemesis Pro offer color variety to match team uniforms? While specific color options may vary, Warrior typically provides a range of choices to help goalies coordinate with their team’s color scheme. Some chest protectors in the Warrior line also offer customization options, allowing players to add personal touches to their gear.
Ventilation and Breathability
How does the Nemesis Pro handle heat management during intense games? The chest pad incorporates strategically placed ventilation zones to promote airflow and reduce heat buildup. This thoughtful design helps goalies stay cool and comfortable, even during long practices or high-pressure game situations.
Performance Impact: How the Nemesis Pro Affects Your Game
The ultimate test of any piece of lacrosse equipment is how it impacts performance on the field. For the Warrior Nemesis Pro, the feedback from goalies has been overwhelmingly positive in terms of its effect on their game.
Enhanced Confidence
One of the most significant benefits reported by users of the Nemesis Pro is a boost in confidence. Knowing that they have top-tier protection allows goalies to focus fully on their positioning and reaction times, rather than worrying about potential injuries from powerful shots.
Freedom of Movement
Despite its robust protection, the Nemesis Pro’s design allows for a full range of motion. Goalies report being able to execute all necessary movements without feeling restricted, which is crucial for making those split-second saves.
Consistency in Different Weather Conditions
How does the Nemesis Pro perform in various weather conditions? The chest pad maintains its protective qualities and comfort level in both hot and cold temperatures. Its moisture-wicking properties help manage sweat in warm weather, while the insulation provides adequate warmth during colder games.
Value Proposition: Is the Warrior Nemesis Pro Worth the Investment?
When considering any high-end piece of sports equipment, it’s important to evaluate its value proposition. For the Warrior Nemesis Pro, several factors contribute to its overall value:
- Superior protection that may help prevent injuries and associated medical costs
- Durability and longevity, potentially outlasting cheaper alternatives
- Improved performance and confidence, which could lead to better results on the field
- Versatility in fit, reducing the need for frequent replacements as a player grows
While the initial cost may be higher than some other chest protectors on the market, many goalies find that the benefits of the Nemesis Pro justify the investment. For serious players committed to the sport, the added protection and performance advantages can make a significant difference in their lacrosse career.
Long-Term Cost Considerations
When evaluating the cost of the Nemesis Pro, it’s worth considering the long-term financial implications. A high-quality chest protector that lasts for several seasons may ultimately be more economical than purchasing multiple lower-quality pads over the same period.
Maintenance and Care: Prolonging the Life of Your Nemesis Pro
To maximize the lifespan and performance of your Warrior Nemesis Pro chest pad, proper maintenance is essential. Here are some tips to keep your gear in top condition:
- Air dry the chest pad after each use to prevent moisture buildup and odors
- Use a mild detergent and soft brush to clean any dirt or stains
- Avoid machine washing or drying, as this can damage the protective materials
- Store the chest pad in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
- Regularly inspect straps and closures for signs of wear, replacing them if necessary
By following these simple maintenance steps, you can ensure that your Nemesis Pro continues to provide optimal protection and comfort throughout its lifespan.
Comparative Analysis: How the Nemesis Pro Stacks Up Against Competitors
To truly understand the value of the Warrior Nemesis Pro, it’s helpful to compare it to other leading chest protectors in the market. While individual needs may vary, here’s how the Nemesis Pro generally compares to its competitors:
Protection Level
The Nemesis Pro consistently ranks at the top in terms of overall protection. Its comprehensive coverage and advanced impact-absorbing materials often surpass those found in competing models.
Comfort and Fit
While comfort is subjective, many goalies report that the Nemesis Pro offers superior fit and comfort compared to other chest protectors. Its adjustable straps and body-conforming design contribute to this positive feedback.
Weight
The Nemesis Pro is heavier than some ultra-lightweight models but lighter than some of the bulkier options on the market. It strikes a balance between protection and mobility that many goalies find ideal.
Price Point
Typically, the Nemesis Pro falls into the higher end of the price range for lacrosse chest protectors. However, its durability and performance features often justify the cost for serious players.
Brand Reputation
Warrior is a well-respected name in lacrosse equipment, and the Nemesis Pro benefits from the company’s history of producing high-quality gear.
When comparing chest protectors, it’s crucial to consider your individual needs, playing style, and budget. While the Nemesis Pro excels in many areas, the best chest protector for you will depend on your specific requirements as a goalie.

Warrior Nemesis Pro Goalie Chest Pad Review
I remember when I first stepped into the goal. Our starting goalie handed me his late 90’s STX chest protector and I remember thinking – where’s the rest of it?
Chest protection for this generation of keepers sure has evolved since the earlier days of lacrosse, with more research and more protection added into each new addition to a company’s chest pad product line.
It’s great to see this evolution for our position when it comes to keeping a goalie’s chest safe.
This post is my review of the Warrior Nemesis Pro chest protector.
Warrior Nemesis Pro Fit
I was a bit skeptical on how the Warrior Nemesis Pro chest protector would conform to my body due to the amount of protection Warrior has offered here.
At first glance this chest pad appears bulky, however it honestly is the best-fitting chest pad I’ve ever used.
I cannot stress enough how great the chest pad felt once tightened around me.
Common problems associated with chest protectors are either they are too loose, too bulky, and hinder the save movement. In some cases, all three.
However, the Warrior Nemesis Pro is balanced out nicely here and I don’t have any complaints regarding the fit.
As you can see in the picture below, the dual-straps click in nicely and are tightened with the straps to fit the shape of your body.
When I am in my goalie stance with the chest pad, I don’t feel any baggage, which can often happen with chest pads, (hanging off your torso in your stance.)
Another common issue I’ve found with chest pads is the throat guard getting in the way of the upper-area of the pad, often resting on it. Warrior did a great job making sure that the nemesis pro was perfectly formed for the throat guard, resting right where it should on the goalie.
This chest protectors comes in just two sizes but with the straps you can easily adjust it to fit all different heights, weights, and body types:
Overall, this is honestly 100% the best fitting chest pad I’ve had the pleasure of using.
Warrior Nemesis Pro Weight
The Warrior Nemesis Pro is on the heavier side when it comes to chest protection.
That is because it’s loaded with so much protection. But as a goalie, I didn’t notice the extra weight and I gladly trade that extra weight for the feeling of protection I get when this bad boy is strapped on my chest.
If you’re wanting to get the lightest chest pad, look elsewhere. It wasn’t as light as a Warrior Burn Pro chest pad, but does offer a better fit and more protection than its lighter counterparts.
That said, it also isn’t the heaviest of chest protectors. The STX counterpart, the STX Shield 500 chest pad, is definitely feels bulkier and heavier than the Warrior Nemesis Pro pad.
Overall here, you’re exchanging a bit of weight for maximum protection, which is up to how you play, but for me personally, it wasn’t a bad trade-off whatsoever.
Warrior Nemesis Pro Protection
So, just how well does the Nemi Pro actually protect that precious chest of yours?
Well, in my opinion, I’d say it offers the most protection out of any chest protector on the market.
Now, breaking that down, certain chest pads like the STX Shield 500 offer more padding in the center-piece.
However, the Nemesis Pro offers more protection, covering the entire frontal area of the keeper, and in an incredibility comfortable way.
Most modern chest protectors, like the Nemi Pro, include a reinforced chest plate. I think this should actually be a mandatory protection item since there are stories of goalies getting hit in the chest at the exact wrong moment and causing death.
Warrior offers a floating belly pad on the Nemesis Pro that not only offers as a bit more protection, but also keeps the chest protector from rising up on low saves. Not many chest pads have that feature.
The chest piece is reinforced with D30 and IMPAX foam technologies. In simple terms, these technologies offer some of the best impact absorption in the world and is used in heavy-duty protection products such as protection for moto-racers.
With a couple weeks of use, which included many practices and four games, I managed to take a few shots off of my chest, and I felt almost nothing except the sweet satisfaction of a save.
Using my late 90’s STX chest pad I specifically remember a few shots that took my breath away. A very unpleasant feeling for a goalie.
With the Warrior Nemesis Pro, I feel like my entire torso is covered inch to inch, and reduces the impact to nearly nothing.
Overall, I’d say it’s one of the most protective chest pads available today.
Warrior Nemesis Pro Design
A goalie’s chest protector is typically covered with a game day jersey or at least a practice penny so design is not the most important factor.
That said, I’m in love with the overall design of the Nemesis Pro.
In terms of aesthetics, it looks fantastic. The base color is a cool gray with silver outlining throughout the chest pad, which gives it a slick, clean look that I personally find to look amazing.
Warrior also did a great job of designing it to conform to your body. Like I said previously, the adjustment straps have such a wide range of movement that I think it’d be pretty difficult for this chest pad not to fit to perfection.
My only real issue with the design would have to be the back straps. I find they get tangled up here and there, which is a minor annoyance at times. It isn’t a frequent issue, but since the neck sleeve is so loose, (will send specific pic) it can cause unwanted tangling in the back at times.
Other than that, however, the design of the Nemesis Pro is great!
Warrior Nemesis Pro Price
Now to everyone’s favorite topic, how much does it cost?
At the time of this writing the Warrior Nemesis Pro comes in around $160.
You can get it on LacrosseMonkey.com here. As I’ve mentioned in our gear review posts I always try to use LacrosseMonkey.com as I’ve had nothing but great experiences with them.
This is definitely a premium chest protector. As I discussed in this post, if you’re just starting out as a goalie buy a different chest pad. Don’t start with this one.
The price is a bit high, but, it is also one of the premium chest pads available for purchase. The Warrior Nemesis Pro costs the same as the STX Shield 500 and I think the former is overall a much best chest protector.
Sure, some of the other premium chest pads are great as well, but with my use of the Nemi Pro, I feel a uniqueness in not only how it fits, but how it feels that I can’t get over.
I say if you can save up for this chest pad, or ask for it as a Christmas gift this holiday season, you wouldn’t be disappointed.
Conclusion
So, let’s break this down for us lax goalies on how the Warrior Nemesis Pro stacks up to our expectations.
- Fits nearly perfect, with only issue being the back straps connected to the neck sleeve tangling up at some points
- Zero restriction with arm movement, making getting to shots an ease (no more getting your arms tied up to make a save!)
- One of the most protective chest pads available, covering practically every inch of the torso
- Weight comes in a bit heavy, but is a sacrifice for amount of protection
- Comes in a bit pricy, but one of the most premium chest protectors available today
With that brief recap of the Nemesis Pro, I think there’s no denying it being one
the best chest pads to purchase today.
Of course, like every piece of equipment, it has its setbacks, such as weight, but compared to other chest protectors I’ve used in the past, there doesn’t seem to be any comparison.
Whether you’re looking for the ultimate protection piece, or want a chest pad that fits flawlessly, I think the Warrior Nemi Pro chest pad is a great buy!

New Lacrosse Goalie Chest Protector Rule in 2021
Last week I posted my review of the new Maverik Rome chest pad.
Rightfully so, many of you asked if this chest pad was approved for the new rule change passed by US Lacrosse.
What rule change you ask? Let’s back up.
Because unlike this rule change, the one I’m about to outline is very real.
US Lacrosse Approves Chest Protector Rule Change
Among the 2019 rule changes introduced by US lacrosse was a change meant to ensure that goalies were not using faulty chest protectors.
The rule changes will be included in the 2019 US Lacrosse Boys’ and Girls’ Field Lacrosse rulebooks.
The rule change was implemented to reduce the risk of a rare yet deadly injury called commotio cordis.
In layman’s terms, Commotio cordis, is a heart rhythm disruption caused by a blow to the chest, i.e. a shot, and causes the heart to stop beating resulting in sudden cardiac death if not immediately treated with AED device.
Before the goalie moms and dads freakout and ban their kid from playing goalie, understand that this is extremely rare – according to NOCSAE approximately 5-15 athletes (of all sports) die each year from commotio cordis.
Yet we should applaud US Lacrosse for making this rule change to ensure that it never happens to even 1 goalie.
The rule change was approved in 2019 but doesn’t go into effect until 2021 for US Lacrosse boys’ and girls’ youth field lacrosse which will allow lacrosse manufacturers to get the right approvals needed for their chest protectors.
Here is the exact line from the rulebook which will apply for both boys and girls:
*Note: Beginning in 2021, only a goalkeeper chest protector designed for lacrosse that incorporates the NOCSAE ND200 will be legal for play and shall contain an SEI certification mark.
Additionally, in boys lacrosse only, by 2022 all field players must have heart protection as well:
* Note: Beginning in 2022, field players must wear protectors for commotio cordis that meet the NOCSAE ND200 standard and contain an SEI certification mark
I think that means we’ll start to see shoulder pads that have the additional heart protection in the 2022 season.
Chest Protectors Meeting NOCSAE Standard
Many of the top chest protectors in the game already include the additional protective piece that meets the NOCSAE standard.
In fact, even the old STX chest protector I played with in my college days in 2003 had an additional plate over the heart that gave me this protection.
That said, all the lacrosse chest protector manufacturers will need to submit their products for testing in order to receive the SEI certification mark.
To check the list of approved chest protectors, you can go to this site: https://www.seinet.org/search.htm
Then select program = NOCSAE: Chest Protectors (Lacrosse) (ND200-17a).
At the time of this writing the only approved chest pad is the Warrior Nemesis:
Edit: Here are the list of now approved chest protectors as December 29, 2020. And the Warrior Nemesis is no longer on there??
You basically have just 5 chest protectors to choose from (top center Warrior Nemesis is now no longer approved):
Here they are:
I think all other manufacturers are still working to get their proper approvals before 2021.
Most modern chest pads – like the Maverik Rome I reviewed last week – contain the reinforced chest plate and protection that helps reduce the chance of commotio cordis however it is NOT on the list of approved chest pads.
Even the Warrior Nemesis Pro – the sequel to the Warrior Nemesis – isn’t on the list yet. But you can clearly see the additional protection over the heart that this chest pad provides.
Edit: This chest pad is now approved.
So I think for the majority the chest protectors available, it’s a question of getting the official certification, not a question of having to redo the entire chest protector’s design to help prevent the commotio cordis.
For example, there’s a company called Unequal which makes a goalie chest pad called the Hart. It’s specifically designed with reinforced heart protection and yet it is NOT on the list of approved chesties yet. Head scratcher. I reached out to Unequal to see what was going on but never heard back.
If your goalie is using a chest pad from circa 1990 then we may have a problem. But if they’re using a newer version, odds are they’ll be ok.
The thing that’s still unknown for me is exactly how referees will enforce this new rule.
Does the chest protector get an additional sticker if it appears on this approved list? Or does simply being on the list justify the chest pad’s legality?
During the 2021 USA LaxCon, PLL and top NCAA official Matt Palumb (also an outstanding goalie at Syracuse btw) said that it the responsibility of coaches and goalies to ensure they’re playing with legally certified gear.
Watched ref Matty Palumb on LaxCon conference. Danced around the answer a little – but basically said refs will not check goalies for certified NOCSAE chest protectors. That’s on the coach and goalie to make sure they’re using legal certified gear. #laxcon
— Coach Damon ? (@laxgoalierat) January 15, 2021
So according to him, refs will not be lifting up jerseys to check for certified chesties. It’s on us as goalies, parents, and coaches.
When will remaining chest pads get approved? No clue. There’s a quite a few chest protectors for goalies and I imagine it takes a quite a while to finish official testing of each.
Conclusion
US lacrosse passed a new rule regarding chest protectors that takes effect in January 2021.
Each goalie chest pad must be SEI certified which is done to ensure the goalie has the additional heart protection that help reduce a rare case of getting hit in the chest at the wrong time and having the heart stop.
By the following year even field players will need heart protection so good on US lacrosse for continuing to preach player safety. Now – what about goalie concussions?
So far only 5 chest protectors have received the approval from NOCSAE so for the 2021 season be sure you’re using one of these 5 chesties:
Until next time! Coach Damon

Best 6 Goalie (Lacrosse) Chest Protectors (2021) Reviewed
Just like any other contact games, goalies take all the beatings, and therefore, it is imperative for them to take whatever precautions available in the market just to keep them safe from bodily contacts.
In the year 2019, the US Lacrosse Governing body has introduced a new rule to safeguard the interest of the goalie. The idea behind this proposal is to eradicate the use of faulty chest protector. This chance will go a long way to keep the lacrosse goalies from harm’s way and eliminate the possibility of Commotio Cordis during the game.
Commotio Cordis is a rare but deadly condition when the heart of a player receives a deadly blow to the chest and thus loses its ability to function properly for a few seconds and this could lead to a massive cardiac attack. This can lead to sudden death if the person does not get immediate medical attention or gets treated with an AED device.
However, there is no reason to get freaked out because the chances of a goalie developing Commotio cordis during the game are very rare. All you have to ensure is that the goalie chest protector that you are planning to purchase has got an SEI certification mark and it should meet the criteria set by the NOCSAE ND200 and your kid will be just fine.

Best Lacrosse Goalie Chest Protectors for 2021
Lacrosse Goalie Chest Protector Buying Guide
Beyond our list of the best chest protectors on the market, we wanted to provide you with the tools to make informed decisions when it comes to a chest pad that we may not have covered.
Here are some things to consider when choosing a chest protector.
1) Protection
It’s in the name—chest protector—so needless to say this is the most important factor when choosing a product. The two elements of protection to keep in mind are padding and coverage.
Padding has seen a major leap forward with the introduction of ND200 standards, with reinforcement now being an emphasis around the sternum/center chest area. A lot of the high-end protectors feature foam with fancy names that distribute force at the point of impact to lessen blows.
Coverage area is the next major component. Does a protector cover the vital points properly and how long or wide does that area go? These are the important questions to ask especially depending upon your body type. A longer torso may need coverage around the base for instance.
2) Comfort & Flexibility
As always, comfort and the flexibility offered in a pad are two other huge elements to consider in the selection process. As much as you need to feel protected, it’s all pretty pointless if you cannot make the movements necessary to man the cage properly.
A lot of pads offer adjustable straps at each fit point—shoulders, ribs, waist, and back—to customize the fit to your liking. The additional removable components have also made this generation of chest protectors extra personalized to your preferences of play and fit.
Another major consideration is the rigidness of the central padding. Some pads will bunch during movement while others will be so stiff you end up with your protector giving you an uppercut at every high sniping shot you move to save. The latter scenario may be more manageable for those keepers with larger frames while bunching may be less of a nuisance for smaller goalies.
Basically, your body type is something to put at the forefront of your mind when judging a protector’s potential comfort and flexibility.
3) Durability
We always look for the highest quality we can get in a product; something that will last us for season after season.
Some elements to consider when it comes to longevity are the quality of straps (and their connecting elements) as well as the dependency on things such as Velcro in removable pieces. These pieces have a tendency to be the most vulnerable points when it comes to breaks so any questions regarding their quality should give you pause as to their durability.
Durability will be a hard element to judge considering the change over in chest protectors to meet the new ND200 standard. Most compliant protectors are barely a year old so there is not a lot of first-hand input in this regard. Trust your gut if you have any doubt as to the quality of a protector’s construction or material.
4) Breathability
You need a chest protector that will not soak up sweat or external moisture over the course of a game. The last thing a goalie needs is to be carrying around a twenty-pound sponge for four quarters.
Some pads will note moisture-wicking tech built into their product. This is definitely something to look for in a listing.
5) Customer Reviews
As noted under durability, there may not be a ton of feedback on this new generation of chest protectors given the advent of ND200 coupled with the truncated 2020 season for many. Still, there is some feedback out there for protectors.
Like we say for every product we cover, do your own research. Look for customer reviewers as more and more feedback is always coming out each and every day.
Other customers are an invaluable resource in judging elements like durability and comfort; they can also help you escape the unspoken pitfalls of certain products.
And do your part as well—pay it forward by reviewing any protector you settle on as well.
6) Budget
As previously demonstrated in our lacrosse goalie gloves buying guide, the market tends to put a premium on position-specific gear and chest protectors are no different.
It may be hard to find something that fits your budget but do not forget that you are paying for one of the most important pieces of protection you can have next to your helmet.
If you are looking to cut costs, it is great to look at scaled-down versions of the top of the line outputs on the market. STX has done a tremendous job of putting out subsequent, cheaper protectors that still employ high-end design techniques.
Like anything though, you get what you paid for, so cutting costs here may leave you vulnerable in the areas of protection and longevity. Do not expect some of the cheaper options out there to last you season after season.

New Chest Protectors Guard Against Commotio Cordis
Last fall, US Lacrosse approved rule changes requiring that boys’ and girls’ goalies wear chest protectors that meet the NOCSAE performance standard ND200. Language to that effect was added to the 2019 US Lacrosse rulebooks, as well as the 2019 NFHS/USL Girls’ High School Rulebook.
Implementation of the rule, however, was delayed until 2021 in order to allow for product development by equipment manufacturers. Evidently, that delay was not needed.
In time for the 2019 season, Warrior Sports has rolled out a goalie chest protector, the Nemesis Pro Chest Pad 19, which meets the new standard and is tested to reduce the likelihood of commotio cordis. The new product is an upgrade of Warrior’s traditional Nemesis protector, and now includes a foam chest plate with inserts that provide enhanced impact absorption at both high and low speeds.
The new Nemesis 19 has been certified by the independent Safety Equipment Institute (SEI), and is available for purchase in adult sizes. Warrior intends to have smaller sizes, suitable for younger players, certified by mid-year.
“In regards to product design, we wanted to keep it in the same family,” said Rick Janisse, product engineer at Warrior Sports. “The biggest change was to the sternum area and the pads.”
STX is also expected to have SEI-certified chest protection products on the market later this year. The company will initially offer goalie chest protection at three price points, including a youth product. At the same time, STX could be the first manufacturer to release certified chest protection for field players, although it has not yet disclosed specific design information.
“This has been a multi-year process and we’ve done a lot of work with different laboratories,” said Patrick Gowan, director of product management at STX. “It’s been an interesting challenge.”
The NOCSAE performance standard ND200 was formally approved in 2017 after being developed based on significant research and testing by Dr. Mark Link, a board-certified cardiac electrophysiologist and worldwide authority on commotio cordis — a type of sudden cardiac arrest caused by a blunt, but often relatively mild, blow to the area of the chest directly over the heart occurring during a precise moment of the heart’s cycle.
Rule 178 – Procedure for taking a free throw / Special situations Rules of the sport of hockey (approved by order of the Ministry of Sports of Russia dated 17.08.2018 N 729) (as amended on 22.02.2019)
RULE 178 – PROCEDURE FOR EXECUTING A PENALTY SHOT / SPECIAL SITUATIONS
1. If an opposing hockey player interferes with or distracts the free throw shooter, resulting in an unsuccessful shot, the referee authorizes that skater to re-roll the free throw and imposes a disciplinary penalty on the offending hockey player.
2. If the official of the defending team, who is on the players bench, interferes with the actions of the free throw shooter or tries to distract his attention and the shot is unsuccessful, the Referee authorizes the defensive player to re-roll the free throw and imposes team representative Disciplinary penalty until the end of the match.
3. The use of the “snail” maneuver (turn in motion by 360 °) while approaching the gate is prohibited.
4. A lacrosse maneuver in which a skater places the puck on the hook of his stick and flips the puck in mid-air while moving is not allowed.
5. If one of the following actions occurs, the goal will be scored:
5.1. The puck hits the post and bounces into the goal;
5.2. The puck hits the goalkeeper and bounces back into the goal;
5.3. The puck hits the post, bounces at the goalkeeper and then into the goal;
5.4. The puck hits the goalkeeper, bounces into the post and then into the goal;
5.5. The puck hits the goalkeeper, who slides into the goal net with the puck.
6. When the coaches of the teams concerned have chosen a specific fielder and goalkeeper for the free throw and goal defense, no substitutions are allowed if a re-shot is to be made due to a foul or goalkeeper foul, except in the event of injury. In such a case, the coach may appoint another fielder to take the shot or a substitute goalkeeper to defend the goal on the free throw.
7. During the free throw or the winning streak, when the puck enters the goal net and the frame of the goal is moved from the plastic retainers or is in a non-standard position due to the goalkeeper’s actions or his attempt to deflect the puck, the goal is scored without video viewing.
8. If, during the free throw or the series of shots that determine the winner of the match, the goal frame is displaced from the plastic retainers or is in a non-standard position due to the goalkeeper’s actions or his attempt to deflect the puck, but the puck does not enter the goal, the goal is not scored. is counted.
9. The free throw is considered complete and a goal is not scored if the throwing field player takes action to distract the goalkeeper using any available means.
10. If a spectator interferes with the execution of the free throw, causing the field player or goalkeeper to be unable to perform their functions properly, the referee will award a re-shot.
11. If the free throw is realized when one of the teams is playing in the majority, the penalized skater may not return to the ice.
12. During the free throw, the match time on the scoreboard must be stopped. It remains disabled during the free throw.
13. If a team is playing without a goalkeeper wearing goalkeeper gear when a free throw is awarded to that team’s goal, the team must designate a skater as the goalkeeper and grant him full goalkeeper rights. This skater must follow the same rules as the normal goalkeeper during the free throw. However, he is not required to wear all the goalkeeper’s equipment. After the free throw is taken, he will be reassigned back to the fielder. This situation only applies if a free throw has been awarded.
GAME SITUATION 1: If a skater breaks his stick during the free throw, there are four possible solutions:
1. If a skater throws the puck into the goal and the stick breaks during the shot, a goal will be scored;
2. If a field player misses the goal and the stick breaks during the throw, the free throw is completed;
3.If a fielder’s stick breaks and then he shoots and shoots the puck into the net, a goal will not be scored;
4. If a skater breaks his stick at any time before the throw, the free throw is completed.

90,000 New goalkeeping equipment sizes in the NHL
“He was very emotional and said there is a lot that can be done in this area because goalkeepers seem so big,” said Kay Whitmore, NHL vice president of hockey operations.“We owe him and must finish the job he started doing everything right.”
First in the league, goalkeepers’ leg pads and shorts were squeezed. Now in training camps, goalkeepers work in smaller bibs and arm protectors. They were made in accordance with new NHL and NHLPA rules
[See also: Crawford doesn’t know when to return]
Actually, increasing the number of goals scored is not the main goal.Goalkeepers must parry shots with skill, not equipment. They should be comfortable in it. It should protect them, but it shouldn’t be too big to stop the puck. A goalkeeper weighing 100 kilograms doesn’t have to look like he’s all 120.
“It is generally thought that we want to increase the number of goals scored. That’s right,” said Matthew Schneider, special assistant to NHLPA executive director Don Fehr. that this consideration is irrelevant. But it’s equally important to make the game fair. We want to write rules where gear doesn’t give players an advantage. “
Whitmore doesn’t know how the innovation will affect performance, but expects the gap between top and mid-level goalkeepers to widen.
” It’s about skill and preparation. This is what makes the game interesting. Goalkeepers must be protected, but otherwise everything must depend only on him, – he said. “This is the main thing.”
* * * * *
Compare the photographs of goalkeepers from the 1980s with those taken in the early 2000s. The difference is huge. Now look at how the equipment has changed from year to year. So the changes are almost imperceptible. Goalkeeper uniforms have been talked about for many years, but how do you know when to do something and what exactly?
At one time, the NHLPA conducted a survey among goalkeepers to find out what they would prefer: increase the size of the goal or reduce the equipment? The answer was unequivocal.
“I thought at least a few people would vote for the big gate,” Schneider said.- Nothing like this. In fact, increasing the goal would lead to a whole series of problems. “
However, the reduction of equipment also did not come without difficulties. Easy to say, but difficult to do. There are more than 100 goalkeepers of different sizes in the league. There are also minor leagues and about six companies that spend money and time developing shin guards How to formulate requirements How to implement them
Shin guards and shorts were relatively simple. As a result of the new rule in the league, shorts appeared not only in sizes L and XL, but also in M and even S sizes.Few play L and XL.
“The number of sizes has increased,” Whitmore said.
It was more difficult to protect the chest and arms. There are subtleties here due to the fact that this is a special part of the body. Imagine spending many years in equipment that protects all parts of your torso, trusting this protection and feeling comfortable in it. And then someone decided to change everything. And you have to parry the pucks launched by the composite clubs, which fly at great speed. Nobody in the NHL is going to go back to wooden clubs.
“This piece of equipment is of great importance to goalkeepers, it cannot be compared to how the field players treat breastplates,” Schneider said.
The NHL and the union consulted many goalkeepers and kits, first defining the key parameters for the change and then diving into the details.
“First and foremost, we wanted the shin guards to follow the shape of the athlete’s body. But not at the expense of protection,” Whitmore said. “We wanted to remove protection where there is no body.”
The text of clause 11.3 of the Rules of the Game of Hockey in the NHL (Protection of the chest and arms) consists of 608 words. “The goalkeeper’s shoulder pads and pads must be anatomically proportional and take into account the individual physical characteristics of the goalkeeper.” After that, the exact dimensions of the shields on the elbows, forearms, shoulders, collarbone are indicated.
Shields on the elbows decreased from 18 cm to 15 cm, on the forearms and biceps – from 14 cm to 11.5 first, and then to 10. The shields on the collarbone cannot protrude more than 5 cm above the shoulder.Shoulders cannot increase the shoulder by more than 4 cm.

neck to shoulder and from shoulder to forearm. They must not rise and increase the size of the goalkeeper when he kneels. The league has introduced some other parameters that will not allow you to bypass this rule.
“The most common complaint I hear is that goalkeepers look square.People are not like that, “Whitmore said.
Each set of equipment is sent to an independent referee in Philadelphia, who puts the shin guards on the dummy and measures them with a scanner. Then he either approves or rejects the form. Such technologies did not exist several years ago but now, thanks to them, these innovations have become possible.
Then all the equipment is sent to Whitmore in Toronto, where he inspects it and sends it to the team.If Whitmore does not like something, he should not rely only on visual perception. He can also submit the form for scanning. One day he had to do it.
“Scanner confirmed that part of the shield was incorrectly assembled,” Whitmore said.

Will the field players notice the changes?
“I really hope so,” laughed Pittsburgh Penguins center forward Sidney Crosby. “I want to believe it will show.”Sometimes the changes are not visible. “
Fielders may not notice the difference. Schneider compared the old equipment to the new, putting them side by side, and did not see the difference. And he has 1289 NHL games under his belt as a defender, and he participated in this process from the start
And goalkeepers can see and feel the difference on the ice Opinions differ depending on circumstances and tastes A goalkeeper’s career is at stake, but no one has ever played in a new kit or could get used to it.
“What can I say,” says Vegas Golden Knights goalkeeper Marc-Andre Fleury.- I do not know. I don’t think this is bad. I don’t see anything terrible in this. There is a feeling that something has appeared on the hands, but it needs work to get used to it. “
Fleury is considered to be one of the goalkeepers who should gain an advantage because he plays in an athletic manner. it is 189 cm and weighs 81.5 kg.
“I’m not a big goalkeeper, am I? – he said. – I can even be considered small. So I have to be quick to play in the league. “
This is the main thing. Goalkeepers need to get used to their shape, and they don’t have to be big, they have to be fast.
[Latest NHL News on Twitter @NHLrussia]
Whitmore is constantly in touch with the goalkeepers and specifies the individual characteristics of each kit. He will continue to work on this during the training camp and in the regular season.
“To each his own, – said Whitmore. – There are those who do not pay much attention to equipment, but there are very picky guys. This will always be so, and you need to be ready for this. Each case must be considered separately. Everyone plays differently. The puck can go where, from their point of view, there is little protection.

Arch Nemesis – Sammachu – 僕のヒーローアカデミア | Boku no Hero Academia
It was cold out that night, nearly freezing as Chargebolt found himself on yet another stake-out mission, silently hiding away in a rowdy alleyway. He clenched his teeth to avoid shivering as he waited for his targets to show up. If his intel was correct, some considerable drug-trafficking was about to go down just around the corner.
He kept his ears open and looked for the smallest of movements that could alert him to the dealmakers’ arrival. He heard faint sirens in the distance, echoing across the concrete-jungle of the city to these dark and dreary parts of downtown Tokyo. The depressing surroundings weren’t anything new to Chargebolt; he was used to the sight of unkempt buildings; the trash littering the sidewalks and the knowledge that there was a poor sod on every corner, begging for tonight’s dinner with either a sad sign or the promise of a good fuck.
The law’s ugly and unjust hands rarely ever reached the heart of this vast wasteland of crime and even when they did, it wasn’t with much success. Therefore, it was a giant free for all between thriving syndicates, regular people trying to get by and lone-wolf villains like Chargebolt himself. What? You thought he was here to prevent the exchange from happening? God no! You see, that would be the hero’s job. Chargebolt was anything
but
. His purpose here was to interrupt the illegal gathering of various lucidity-herbs briefly and then leave the scene as soon as he had entered it, optimally taking both the drugs and the money with him.
The criminal world didn’t have any sort of moral code to it. Thieves’ honor if you will. Ha. This was the real world, where people fought tooth and nail to survive, not thinking of how their actions could affect others, even for a second. Hesitation and good-heartedness didn’t bring success in these parts when you could be facing down the barrel of a gun at a moment’s notice. Morality took you to the bottom of a lake and to an early grave if you weren’t careful enough. Living in this world meant that it was either to steal or to be stolen from, and Chargebolt would rather choose the former. It wasn’t ethical to take from another man’s livelihood. Did ethics put food on the table and a roof over your head?
Thus, he was waiting for some other thieves to show up and do what he was best at: steal from them and play some buffoons. Feigning innocence and making fools drop their guard was his forte; he’d approach slowly, pretending to be a helpless bystander and just as they were about to recognize him, he would strike like a cobra capturing prey. He was a live wire, get too close and you get shocked substantially enough to zap you unconscious for a few hours. Or permanently, if you weren’t careful. Chargebolt lived on the dangerous side of the word; his life was on the line every night he was out on the town, so sometimes he had to resort to more drastic measures. He had to be on the lookout for both so-called pro heroes that patrolled the area and the fellow criminals. It didn’t happen that often, but running into a hero was always bound to attract more trouble than it was worth.
Local outlaws always had a knack for hunting pros doing their jobs around these parts like some sort of sick competition. So, when word got around that one was in the area, especially if they were one who some syndicates had beef with, it was a mad race to see who got to them first. Some heroes even had significant bounties on their heads.
And because of how he operated, Chargebolt had more enemies around than friends as well. So, he shared some qualities with underground pros. There was a hefty price on his life and when he saw a hero, he knew that there was some bigger fish lurking in the shadows nearby, who Chargebolt never wanted to meet.
He’d rather get captured by a pro than a hunter. It’d be less painful, and he’d have a higher likelihood of surviving a trip to a police station, as opposed to one to the basement of an abandoned building. It wasn’t that difficult to escape an arrest with his quirk (he had done it before), so he didn’t have much to fear from the heroes themselves. Rather the crowd that was guaranteed to tail them.
The only person that could rival the magnitude of Chargebolt’s bounty was Mockingbird, an underground pro who everybody in the criminal scene has heard the name of at least once already. People whispered about him constantly, spreading tales and legends that Chargebolt knew to be only marginally reminiscent of the truth.
Mockingbird was rumored to be ruthless and unforgiving, some even said that he was going around, barging into the bases of entire crime families without an ounce of dread in his heart. He was supposed to be able to pack a punch so hard that you’d be out for weeks after being hit with it. Potentially, you would never be the same if – not when –
if
you woke up because of the imminent brain damage that would follow. Nobody knew what his quirk was (they could only tell you that it had nothing to do with birds), but they said that it was so powerful that once you caught news that he was coming for you, you knew that you’ll soon find yourself safely tucked behind either bars or the zipper of a body bag.
Mockingbird was the boogey-man of the lawless underworld of Tokyo, infamous for being the most efficient and successful pro to date. He became a dreadful legend, an icon and the ghastly tale that made even the toppest of dogs scurry in fear. He was considered to be the current biggest threat to the underground crime community; if you were his assigned mission, you rarely escaped. Therefore, he was the most wanted pro around these parts, everybody had some agenda or a revenge plan against the guy.
Point is, he was the very best there ever was, according to street gossip.
In Chargebolt’s personal experience, however: he wasn’t that much of a bigshot. Mockingbird wasn’t such a cold and calculated machine in practice, only in theory, and Chargebolt always managed to slip out of his grasp somehow. He liked to believe that it was because of his elusiveness, charm, and incredible level of skill. Though in truth, Mockingbird quite obviously chose to let him go every time. Mockingbird (as of yet) hadn’t denied nor confirmed if the former had anything to do with the latter.
There was rarely a night when their paths wouldn’t cross and Chargebolt was beginning to think that Mockingbird was doing it on purpose. Chargebolt surely was. And that fact was steadily getting on his nerves.
Him seeking the company of the most wanted underground pro in Tokyo contradicted every single principle he had laid out for himself. Being close enough to Mockingbird to be within seeing range was dangerous enough, fighting him and talking to him regularly could turn into a death sentence.
So, why did he long to run into him so often? Not only was he risking capture but also being tracked down by the people who hunted Mockingbird. He was a much easier and a lot less intimidating target than him for sure. Mockingbird frequently let him get off the hook when they fought, but that didn’t mean that he didn’t give other opponents hell. Even when they threw hands (instead of just leisurely talking like they tended to lately), it was evident that Mockingbird was pulling his punches. Even more obvious was the fact that he never saw him use a quirk once. That didn’t necessarily mean that his quirk wasn’t some mental one that was visibly unperceivable, but Chargebolt didn’t think he’d ever used it against him in a fight. Maybe he didn’t want to risk the mystery of it being figured out. His entire reputation in the criminal scene depended on his anonymity and his enigmatic nature after all.
Knowing that it was the stupidest and most reckless thing to want to talk to him didn’t stop Chargebolt from hoping to have time to chat around with him tonight, preferably after he got this job done.
Speaking of, he should be focusing on the alleyway he was staking out instead of daydreaming about the half-stranger that had been plaguing his thoughts more often than he cared to admit.
He turned his attention back to the present and the narrow street. It was the right choice, because not long after, he heard hushed voices and light footfalls echo between the gritty walls; the ones that he’d been waiting for. Chargebolt chanced a glance around the corner and, sure enough, he saw two figures chatting away, a briefcase in one of their hands. He wondered if it was the drugs or the money. He’d preferred the latter; it was much easier to get some cash upfront than sell the stuff. Though, depending on what kind of drug it was, he would have liked to stash a portion of it away for his own benefit…
Just to be safe, and get as big of a payoff as possible, he lurked in the shadows for a little longer to wait out the arrival of the other party. After about ten minutes, two more thugs walked up to the little gathering. Thank God, his intel was right, he was running out of money
fast
and rent was already due yesterday. He had to thank Toga later.
The only thing he was risking now was the possibility of someone having the same info – it being a trap or a pro being at the wrong place at the wrong time. He trusted Toga, but he couldn’t help being skeptical when he didn’t know the original source of the tip. He couldn’t afford to let his guard down.
Once everybody arrived; he analyzed the scene. At first glance, he could tell from the setting and their scarce weaponry that they were some low-level thugs or obvious amateurs. But if the rumors were true about the amount of money involved… There was either some trickery to this deal or the participants were trying to be inconspicuous. Around here, wanting to make the least amount of noise was the habit of rookies or small-time criminals; all the bigshots were as loud as possible, warding off any opponents or rivals with sheer intimidation and a power-show. So naturally, his suspicions were only rising.
The fact that only two of the four people present were visibly armed was even more off-putting. Something didn’t add up, but Chargebolt
really
needed that money. It wasn’t too late to back out. He knew there was no shame in running away. He might not have needed to feel ashamed, but he was sure going to feel cold more often if he got kicked out of his janky apartment…
After a brief pause of weighing pros and cons, he made a mental note to handle the two gunmen first.
After what Chargebolt assumed to be some small talk and negotiation, one of the lackies opened his briefcase to show off what was inside: tons and tons of green paper bills with considerably high numbers printed on each of them.
Jackpot
. Chargebolt could already tell he would be able to pay off not only this month’s rent, but that of the upcoming
year
with the kind of money that case contained. Seeing the profit this job could bring was enough motivation for him to put his worries on timeout and make his move.
“Excuse me, gentlemen!” Chargebolt called out, sauntering forward leisurely with a cocky smile adorning his features.
The men startled, whipping their heads towards the intruder with shocked expressions. Those without a weapon fumbled for the hidden holsters on their hips and in seconds, three handguns were promptly trained on Chargebolt, one thug struggling in his hurry to snap the briefcase he’d been presenting closed.
“There’s no need for any violence. I am just in dire need of help!” He stopped in his tracks temporarily and raised his palms in faux surrender, somewhat successfully pacifying the palpable tension. Get-help always worked best. “I’m sorry for interrupting this ongoing, clearly very important meeting, but I’m terribly lost. Could you please help me find my way back to Main Street?” He swayed his hips with every step as he pushed on, now with four gunpoints trained on his every move, the last guy having successfully freed up his hands.
The dealers seemed to be clueless about what to do, looking at their mates for instructions and eyeing their opposing party suspiciously, probably assuming that this was some sort of dirty trick on their part. Confusion was good, confused meant distraught and distracted, which was the optimal condition for Chargebolt to approach safely.
“You are pretty far into downtown to be looking for the main street, twink. What are you doing here exactly?” The closest to him inquired while threateningly cocking his gun. The rest followed his lead soon after.
Feisty ones, huh? Chargebolt underestimated their confidence and adaptability; optimal conditions just flew out of the window. Now the situation looked more like approaching a pack of wild animals, and Chargebolt knew not to turn his back on a territorial bitch. It was too late to turn back now, unless he wanted a bullet as an accessory for his shoulder blades.
He rocked on his feet, still holding his hands up, and inched closer at such a slow pace that they couldn’t detect the distance closing. “I just went for a midnight walk and got lost in my head while strolling around. Now I can’t find my way back home. If you could just help me-”
“We are kind of in the middle of something. What about a GPS? Don’t you have a phone?” The guy in the front (he seemed to outrank the rest, the others following his every move and letting him do the talking) interrupted.
Chargebolt stepped up to the edge of the light provided by the raggedy lamp overhead, getting ready to pounce once they recognized him. Even if these morons didn’t know who he was, he had to act fast and not give them the advantage and time to put his face into memory. He didn’t need any more gangs to have it out for him.
“Dropped it somewhere along the way,” he said, shrugging his left shoulder weakly, disguising the twitch it made as he let his electricity run through it to prepare for a bigger discharge. He felt the sparks dancing along his skin as he slowly built the power output. The static roamed the air around him. He felt it vibrate as he made one last step to leave the shadows and let his electricity crackle around him threateningly, making the overhead light flicker menacingly.
He saw recognition flash in the eyes of the men before him as the one closest to him stepped back a bit, the gun in his hand shaking with the motion. The aim of the weapons pointed at him wobbled as the rest of the group caught on to what was about to happen. Oh, he was going to enjoy kicking the asses of these untrained amateurs. Carefully, he made a move to get even closer and make sure the lightning coursing through his veins found an easy target.
Only to be interrupted by an all too familiar white fabric wrapping around the barrel of the gun closest to him and tearing it out of the leader’s grasp violently just as he was about to shoot him. The bullet hit the lamp above, raining shards of glass on the thugs and dousing the scene in nearly complete darkness. The only source of light remained the faint glow of the stars and the moon filtering through the creases between tattered old buildings.
“God fucking damnit!” He wanted to chat
after
the job, not
during!
The other three outlaws jumped into action as soon as their eyes adjusted to the loss of light, whizzing around in place, desperately looking for the culprit and ignoring Chargebolt completely. A mistake because the moment their attention left him, Chargebolt jumped at the chance to sock the guy who’d been disarmed in the face with an electric charge. The punch wasn’t that strong itself, but the mild zap packed enough power to knock the poor sod unconscious. Chargebolt mentally gave himself a pat on the back for being a good sport and slightly evening the odds to a fairer two to three ratio.
Movement to the left of him caught Chargebolt’s eye as he straightened back up. The guy with the briefcase that hadn’t been opened yet was tackled to the ground by another figure. The man jumped on him, swiftly delivering a punch to his jaw, putting him out of commission as well. The underground hero didn’t waste any time bouncing to his feet and hurled his capture tape around the rest of the gang, weaving them in a web of white fabric before they could fire any more shots. He moved with such fierceness and calculated confidence that it made a shiver run down Chargebolt’s spine. An overwhelming warm feeling followed the sensation in quick succession, enveloping him in a mist of desire and want from head to toe. He had to admit, watching Mockingbird fight like a daring Gargarean warrior was one of his guilty pleasures, and it did things to him and his body he rarely experienced otherwise. In short, he found Mockingbird’s efficiency and fearlessness to be a major turn-on.
The whirlwind of capture tape didn’t meet its targets, only made them stagger slightly as they dodged, expecting the attack this time. The two guns were still aiming at Mockingbird with an unyielding determination; just a stupid piece of thin fabric to fight with really put him at a disadvantage. See? This was Chargebolt’s problem with morals. It made the pro hero throw away the weapon he just acquired instead of using it. Stupid heroes and their stupid ideals to make their own job more difficult and dangerous by “not wanting to cause severe damage to the environment or any of the people involved, including villains.” He could quote the deadpan monologue Mockingbird held for him after he demanded an explanation to why he let himself get stabbed and would never return the favor to the culprit. He explained that it would only make him sink to their level, which was fair, but not any less offensive to Chargebolt, regardless.
Speaking of guns, another shot rang out, hitting the wall behind Chargebolt, barely missing his head in its trajectory. If Mockingbird’s capture tape hadn’t seized the gun as the thug pulled the trigger, Chargebolt would be the lucky winner of a ride with an ambulance or a hearse. Good thing Mockingbird’s reflexes were god-like, otherwise he would have been six feet under by now.
This made him realize that this really wasn’t a good time for his mind to wander off, he needed to get his head in the game and concentrate on fighting instead of picturing what it looked like when Mockingbird’s muscles tensed like that without the slightly baggy overalls hindering his view.
The other guy tried to make a run for it, but a piece of the capture cloth wrapped around his ankle immediately, tripping him onto his face, the impact forcing the air out of his lungs. The fall made him drop both his handgun and the briefcase which skittered towards the alleyway opposite to Chargebolt.
The money, get the fucking money!
“Fancy seeing you here, little Birdie!” He yelled as he looked for an opening to get to the briefcase.
The sudden change of plans and the involvement of the underground pro lessened his likely profit greatly, but he was hoping to at least stuff his pockets with enough money and drugs to get this month’s expenses sorted. Mockingbird was doing fine on his own, he wasn’t going to need Chargebolt to run to his aid any time soon. Chargebolt knew for sure that once he’d incapacitated all the outlaws, he would go for the briefcases and turn them over to the police. Without taking a single thing from either of them. Chargebolt couldn’t just let all that money go to waste, he had to get his hands on those briefcases before the fight was over and Mockingbird could direct all his attention to him.
Mockingbird didn’t answer, too busy fighting his only remaining opponent who seemed to be giving him more trouble than the rest had. Chargebolt didn’t bother to observe why, he had a
job
to do.
He swiftly spun on his heel and made a beeline to the money-case, desperately hoping that he could get to it before Birdie over there finished throttling a man.
He heard the gruesome, fleshy noise of a shot meeting its target and a pathetic yelp behind him, shortly followed by the sound of a body hitting the pavement. He didn’t waste time by turning around to check which one of them fell; though he couldn’t tell which option sounded worse. If the thug won, it could mean both Mockingbird’s and Chargebolt’s imminent demise. However, if Mockingbird was the one still standing, Chargebolt wasn’t going to get away in time.
He snatched up the case with a victorious chuckle and just as he was about to celebrate, he felt a sharp jerk at his left foot. The violent tug pulled him off balance, causing him to ungracefully stumble onto the cold hard ground, face first, with an embarrassing yowl; meeting a similar fate as the other guy had. The briefcase fell out of his grasp and clattered against the concrete, landing a few feet away. He cursed under his breath, the collision rattled his skull and made his teeth clank together; his head hurt like a bitch. However, he was pleasantly surprised to feel an overwhelming amount of relief in the middle of all of that when he realized that being tripped with some capture tape meant that Birdie was ok. With a sharp groan of pain, he pushed himself to his elbows. Upon finding the world around him spinning around its axis, he decided against standing and crawled on all fours instead.
Only to be pulled back again, gentler this time, just a warning, as he heard heavy footfalls approach him. This was so fucking humiliating, why couldn’t he just let him get away with the case? Not like he would be doing anything worthwhile with it! Confiscating it as evidence, was not a beneficial use of possibly over a million yen!
“Why you gotta be like that, man? I didn’t even do anything wrong this time. Even helped you out a little!” His words were slightly garbled,
damn, he might have a concussion
. “If anything, I deserve it as a reward for helping the police force do its job.”
“First of all, I’m not police. Second, you know that it’s nothing personal,” the all too familiar baritone of Mockingbird sounded from only a few feet away. Hearing his deep voice made an embarrassing full-body shiver travel through Chargebolt’s systems. “I’m just doing
my
job.”
“And I’m doing
mine
!” Chargebolt retorted with a snarl. He gripped, and tugged at the white cloth, catching the underground pro attached to the other end by surprise as he staggered towards him.
“I can’t let you take the case. It’s bad enough that I let you get away at all.”
“I wouldn’t be taking the whole case; I don’t want to damage your perfect little record! I just need a few…” he made a few quick calculations in his head on how many months of rent money he wished he had possessed, “A few hundred thousand yen would suffice!” He tugged again, though with much less success this time.
Mockingbird let out a pained sigh.
“You know that I could just bring you in, right? I don’t want to risk losing my job more than I already do, so just give up and skedaddle already,” he spat coldly.
He only used outrageously goofy words like “skedaddle” when he was telling Chargebolt off like a little kid. He wondered if that was Mockingbird’s everyday vocabulary shining though, or Chargebolt’s hilarious speech patterns rubbing off on the guy. Chargebolt couldn’t read his face completely, that stupid mask always covering most of it, but he could tell he was pouting big time.
“I need the money!” He tugged hard, making it more effective by pairing it with mild shock that travelled along the alloy-lined fabric and zapped Mockingbird hard enough to make him stumble and fall towards him.
He landed on his knees, pretty harsh by the sound of it. He cried out and a sharp hiss slipped out from under the black mask wore, most likely through gritted teeth. His arm flew to his side, clutching his uniform, just above his right hipbone. The capture tape around his ankle loosened its grip and Chargebolt easily wiggled out of it fully. He jumped to his feet, expecting Mockingbird to do the same and tackle him like he usually did. However, the latter only took a few more shaky breaths as he leaned forward, putting most of his weight on his left shoulder.
Something was wrong.
Chargebolt’s hurry faltered quickly, and he came to a halt only a few steps away. Mockingbird tried to make his move and push himself up from the ground, but he barely got one foot under him when he collapsed back into the same position with a soft curse.
Something was
very
wrong.
Chargebolt knew that he shouldn’t stay. He shouldn’t bother helping. They were
enemies
, Mockingbird’s
job
was to throw him in a jail cell until he rotted away for all the atrocious crimes he had committed. This weakened state of the pro was the perfect opportunity to take the loot and make his leave without much of a fuss. He needed that money. He needed to get away. And he knew that backup was most likely on its way already, if not pros, some police officers to collect the feats of Mockingbird’s victory.
So why did he find himself crouching next to his supposed nemesis in a blink?
He put a hand on his shoulder, rubbing it comfortingly. He slowly and carefully positioned Mockingbird until he was sitting on the pavement instead of kneeling on it. He hissed and cursed multiple times but complied without a word.
“What happened?” Chargebolt asked, his tone dripping from feigned indifference.
Mockingbird winced as he leaned back to lie down, Chargebolt’s hand was still resting on his back for support and pulled him into the villain’s lap.
“What about the case?” Mockingbird wheezed out mid-movement.
“Fuck the case! Tell me what happened. Now.” He couldn’t even keep up the charade; he was losing his mind with the stress and worry. He wasn’t that great of an actor when his real emotions overwhelmed him.
“The last guy shot me.”
“Fuck.”
“I don’t think it hit anything important. It didn’t go all the way through though. I’m only bleeding from the front… I think.”
“Ok, ok, ok. This is fine. We can patch you right up,” Chargebolt said as he tore off his jacket along with the plain white t-shirt he’d been wearing under it. The nearly freezing cold air of mid-winter bit into his exposed skin like a rabid animal. It hurt but he was a big boy, he could take a little chill.
“What are you doing?” Mockingbird questioned with a frown as he ogled Chargebolt’s bare chest.
“What does it fucking look like?”
He tore the shirt apart with sheer determination and the pocket knife he kept in his boot for emergencies, producing a long, raggedy piece of fabric. The capture tape didn’t seem like a good alternative, he knew what being tied up with that thing felt like, he guessed that the sharp edges would only make both the bleeding and pain worse.
As soon as he deemed the crafting done, he urged Mockingbird to sit up again. He obliged with a perplexed expression.
“How bad is the bleeding? Are you feeling dizzy yet?”
Please say no, please say no…
Mockingbird lifted the hand he’d been clutching to his side to peel away his slightly torn overall with a hiss of pain. It came away bloody. Chargebolt helped him free the area with the knife as gingerly and carefully as he could.
“I’m fine. Could be worse. Gonna have to have a hospital trip, but I’ll make it… It just hurts like a bitch,” Mockingbird mumbled and Chargebolt physically felt the pressure leave his shoulders.
“Good,” he couldn’t express how big of a relief hearing that was.
He gently but securely fastened the makeshift gauze around Mockingbird’s torso in a tourniquet and let him lay back in his lap once he was finished.
“You shouldn’t stay here…” Mockingbird trailed off, staring intently at the money-case.
Chargebolt swept his eyes over the unconscious bodies and the two briefcases littering the alleyway. No payoff tonight…
I really shouldn’t, should I?
“I know.”
“Why are you still here?”
Mockingbird looked up, straight into Chargebolt’s eyes. He saw tears well up in those hypnotic orbs of violet. Whether they were there because of the pain, embarrassment, or some other emotion, Chargebolt couldn’t tell.
I don’t know.
“Maybe I just like to teeter on the edge of danger.”
Chargebolt let a lopsided grin spread itself over his features as he shrugged, trying to look his confident, cocky self. His hand wandered into the grip of Mockingbird’s.
Mockingbird might have known him too well if the panicked crease in his eyebrows and the few falling teardrops were anything to go by.
“Backup is coming.”
I’m going to get caught.
“I know…”
He intertwined their fingers and felt his own eyes get wetter.
“You have to go.”
Mockingbird untangled his fingers from his, in favor of reaching up to cup Chargebolt’s cheek tenderly. The hold made the warmest of feelings blossom in the villain’s chest as he realized how starved he had gotten for the hero’s touch.
“Making sure you’re ok is the least I can do. You risk your everything every time we meet. You’re technically a traitor to hero-society for the way you keep treating me.” Chargebolt couldn’t resist the impulse to lean into the warmth cradling his face. He placed his own hand just on the edge of the black mask he grew so accustomed to craving the sight of.
“You would let me destroy you, wouldn’t you?” Chargebolt chuckled humorlessly as he fiddled with the fine-tuned mechanisms of the thing. He always wondered why he never took it off. To protect his identity? Regulate his quirk? He always assumed that he’d never get to find out.
“…Might as well,” Mockingbird muttered after a few seconds of contemplation, voice barely above a shaky whisper. It was just three simple words, yet they carried so much meaning and power. He had the sort of look in his eyes that made it obvious he had made a life-changing decision.
Those violet orbs softened and sparkled as he dropped his palm from Chargebolt’s face to place both his hands on the mask as well. Chargebolt was just about to ask what he was doing when the noise of softly whirring mechanisms hit his ears.
His mouth was forgotten open.
The mask whizzed and hissed quietly as its straps holding it to Mockingbird’s chin unbuckled with a muffled click.
His heart forgot how to beat properly.
The mask clattered to the concrete and gave way to plump lips and a perfect jawline accentuated by the purple stubble of a 6 o’clock shadow. That iconic indigo
was
his natural hair color
.
“I should be struck dead for wanting you the way I do.”
The euphoria of hearing that breathy voice unfiltered and unrestrained by that black, cold mask made Chargebolt’s breath stop short. The shock of seeing the lopsided smirk he’d been daydreaming about for
so
long froze him in place like a dumbfounded statue. The tender caress of his hand found its way back to his cheek and broke him out of his reverie as the touch urged him to lean down and down… He didn’t resist, he fell harder than ever before and stumbled into the lion’s den that was the love and admiration he felt for the underground pro hero. But Mockingbird was there to catch him like a knight in shining armor at the bottom.
Their lips connected and a new wave of overwhelming want washed over every ounce of his body. Mockingbird’s left palm held its grip on his face, guiding him gingerly to tilt his head for a better angle. His eyelashes fluttered closed at the breathtaking feeling. Mockingbird’s other hand wound around his back and wandered into golden locks of his hair. His fingers tangled in the long strands, pulling at them softly and Chargebolt couldn’t help the soft moan that bubbled in his chest at the sensation. Mockingbird seemed pleased with the sound as he sighed into his mouth, the air resonating in Chargebolt’s lungs.
Chargebolt’s hands took the same liberty of exploration and woven themselves in wild violet locks of hair, gently massaging and caressing Mockingbird’s scalp in sync with the movements of their lips. He groaned as he nibbled the blonde’s lower lip gently. The noise reverberated in Chargebolt’s chest, and the sensation made him part his lips in pleasure.
He might have been topless in the freezing cold, but he felt like he was about to burst into flame when a tongue slipped into his mouth, deepening the kiss even further. The faint taste of coffee lingering in his mouth was exhilarating and borderline intoxicating.
Mockingbird’s palms chose to wander lower, exploring his naked upper body in a way that made most of his blood rush south. He felt goosebumps follow in the trail that Mockingbird’s hands left along his shoulders, stomach and back. He followed his lead, careful not to jostle him or disturb his wound. He gripped Mockingbird’s uninjured hip so hard that he was sure it would leave a mark, only to be rewarded by another sweet noise from the hero. None of his fantasies could even come close to what it felt like to finally kiss him.
He felt fingers play with the elastic hem of his joggers and his head spun with the implications of what more could happen in this rowdy alleyway if they were in a less dire situation.
He felt the lines of his villain persona and his true self blurring together as he let himself fully sink into the feeling of Mockingbird’s body pressed impossibly close to his in a semi-comfortable position. He couldn’t tell if this was Chargebolt, Kaminari Denki, or
both
moving in tandem with Mockingbird in the heated kiss.
How could something so inherently
wrong
feel so incredibly
right
?
His lungs started burning from the lack of air, but he couldn’t bring himself to separate himself from this dream. The high of his lips being locked with Mockingbird’s was more powerful than any drugs he had ever taken before. He was quickly getting addicted, already craving the next dose.
Mockingbird gasped sharply and clutched Chargebolt’s wrist as he was about to let it sink lower down his waistline. After one last roll of their lips, he tore his mouth away with a pleased, shaky exhale and a wobbly grin.
“Not here and not now. I don’t want to bleed to death,” Mockingbird almost wheezed, fully out of breath.
“Not the worst way to kick the bucket, in my humble opinion,” Chargebolt winked in response, their faces still so close that he could feel the pro’s hot breath against his swollen, wet lips. “Also, the only thing I got from that was the fact that you’d be up for it somewhere else and some other time,” he giggled as he pressed a soft peck to the corner of Mockingbird’s mouth, causing him to chuckle along as well.
He assumed that Mockingbird was about to say something equally flirtatious when he was suddenly interrupted by the shrill cacophony of multiple sirens in the distance. His eyes grew to the size of dinner plates as he frantically pushed the villain away and reached for his mask.
“You have to go,” he declared.
I really fucking should.
“I don’t want to leave you like this.”
“I don’t care, you
have
to go!” He shoved him with more force this time, straining his wound judging by the face he made as he wiggled around in place.
Chargebolt gripped at his shoulder to sooth him a little, “Stop moving around so much, I’m going to have to redo the bandage.”
“Why are you doing this? You’re going to get yourself caught! Just leave already, I’ll be fine,” Mockingbird spat frantically.
Chargebolt slipped his hand into Birdie’s again.
“How did you put it? I should be struck down for wanting you the way I do?” He quoted with a painful yet somber smile on his face.
“If you get caught, I’ll never see you again,” he whispered, his breath hitching towards the end.
“I’ll handle it if I do, don’t worry about it, Birdie,” he breathed, the coppery smell of blood, sweat and the faint but sweet scent of cologne filling his nose.
“Hitoshi.”
He choked on said breath.
“What?”
“Call me Hitoshi.”
“Well then Hitoshi,” he could barely keep the sob in check that wanted to break out of his chest, “you can call me Denki.”
“You have to go, Denki.” Even the painfully tearstained way his name rolled off Mockingbird’s,
no,
Hitoshi’s tongue made his heart flutter in elated delight. “Please…” he begged, “Don’t make me… Just go, Denki.”
Denki raked his fingers through indigo strands tenderly, the bitter-sweet smile ever-present on his face, “I deserve it for all the things I’ve done, you know. Let me choose what my final hubris gets to be.”
Hitoshi spoke barely above a whisper, “I love you.” It was just three simple words, yet they carried so much
meaning
and
power
.
It took a moment for Denki to collect himself enough to respond.
“I love y-“
The next thing he knew, he was standing in a completely different street, his jacket on his back again and his hand having a death-grip on the handle of a heavy briefcase. He was out of breath and his muscles were screaming at him as if he just went on an intense cardio sprint.
He whirled around in place, taking in the surroundings, his panic rising steadily and making it even more difficult to breathe.
This was
his
building
.
This was almost an
hour of walking distance
away from his stake-out mission. How the
fuck
did he get home? Did he run all the way here? Where was Hitoshi? Was he ok? Why did he have the
fucking money
? Did Hitoshi make him run all the way home? Did he know where he lived?
Was this his quirk?
Was the confession just a trick so he could force him to leave and go home?
He took a few deep breaths to steady himself, as he spun back towards the fire-escape ladder on the side of his building.
What was he supposed to do now? Just go upstairs and sleep off a job well done?
The briefcase was a heavy weight in his hands and on his soul, he felt even worse that he got to take the money. For once in his life, he wanted to pay for all he’d done, and he ended up getting paid instead. It never mattered what his plans were or what he wanted to do; the universe always made his decisions for him.
All he’d been daydreaming about for months had been that kiss. And now that he finally got it, he wanted more of it, more of Mockingbird, more of
Hitoshi
. He wanted to hear him utter his name in pleasure, he wanted to feel those soft lips on his again.
But he couldn’t help feeling betrayed by whatever just happened. He might be misreading everything, and Hitoshi really was just making him walk into some sort of trap all along.
He saved you
. No, he
did something
to me!
Hitoshi might have let him get away. He might have let him take the case. But he took Denki’s heart in exchange. And if Denki wanted to get it back, he was going to have to look for him and either fight him for it or kiss him so silly that Hitoshi would give him
his
instead…
Chargebolt and Mockingbird, infamous lightning villain and most famous underground pro hero. Arch nemesis until they each draw their last breath.
90,000 All Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey Side Missions Complete (Part 1)
The second part of the side quests can be found here.
Part – 1: “Kefalonia Islands” (All tasks)
Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. Walkthrough assignments
Quest: Hungry Gods
To take the Hungry Gods quest, you need to get to the cave, which is located next to the vineyard of Marcos. A man will be sitting near the cave – the quest is taken from him.Talk to the NPC and agree to complete his task. According to the assignment, you will need to go into the cave, near which the character sits and deal with the bandits inside.
“The character who issues the task”
Inside, go deep into the cave and turn left as soon as possible. You need to get to the statue of the Greek god Hermes (it is located inside the cave with the unusual name “Drogarati”). I also recommend taking a closer look inside, because you can steal valuable resources and some drachmas (local in-game currency).
In general, you need to study the bowl (it stands on the floor to the left of the statue) and the gap, which is inside the wall behind the statue. You will also need to squeeze through the gap to the opposite side in order to go deep into the cave tunnels. You need to make your way forward until you come across a secret bandit camp. If you don’t want to fight everyone, then use the bushes (just hide in them). Just keep in mind that the leader of the robbers cannot be killed in stealth mode.Although if your character has the second level, it will not be difficult to kill the leader secretly. The total number of robbers is 5-6 people. The beauty is that from time to time they will move away from each other, which means that even taking into account the errors in stealth, all the same, all enemies can be killed secretly.
“Location of the chest inside the cave of Drogarati”
Be sure to find a massive wooden structure inside the cave. The fact is that there will be a valuable chest at the top. There is some useful equipment inside the chest. To complete the exploration of this cave, you need to kill the leader and find a chest with equipment. So if these two points are met, then you can leave the cave.
♦ Important point: Before you leave the part of the cave where the bandits’ camp is located through a hole in the wall, you will certainly stumble upon a woman who is praying. If you do not remain silent and say, they say, the gods will definitely help her, then you will receive a new additional task called “Merciful Gods” (the passage of the task is below).
In conclusion, it remains to get out and talk to the character on assignment. As a reward, you will receive about 90 drachmas and a certain amount of XP (experience points). Always remember that the amount of experience gained depends on the real level of the hero / heroine.
Quest: Merciful Gods
“Job Description”
This quest is very simple, because it will be enough that you go to the indicated area (it is called “Sami”) and get there already to the marked house.Near the house, you will need to carefully examine the broken cart and the products that the woman tried to take to the market. Inside the basket you will need to put the appropriate offerings that were stolen by the bandits. At this stage, the task will end and the character will be credited with well-deserved experience.
Quest: “Work for a Mercenary”
“Bulletin board location”
In the “Sami” area, which you may have already visited during the passage of the above task, you can find the first bulletin board.Hanging a notice board will be at the very base of the architectural statue. On the map, the bulletin board will be marked as a black marker with white lines. This task can be taken on such a board.
On assignment, a local blacksmith wants to bring him 2 wolf skins. So you have to go hunting. Wild wolves can be found near the sawmill. The sawmill is located in the northern part of Kefalonia. You can not immediately go to carry out this task and wait for the receipt of the quest called “Without a hitch, without a hitch” (it is described a little below), during the passage of which it will be possible to get wolf skins at the same time. One way or another, bring the indicated number of skins to the blacksmith, after which you will receive XP and drachmas (280).
Quest: In the Footsteps of the Gods
“Job Description”
Again, the quest is taken in the “Sami” area. Get to the top of the mountain, which is located next to the notice board. Upstairs, you will stumble upon the majestic Temple of Zeus. On the territory of the temple there will be a woman (she is also marked with a marker) on the right side of the entrance inside. Agree to help her.
So, the woman will ask you to find the legendary spear of Mullet. The weapon can be found inside a cave located in the northwestern part of Kefalonia. From the Temple of Zeus, the cave is located 120 meters north. The cave is called Melissani. When you get to the indicated place, you need to jump down straight into the water. To do this, use the “C” key.
“Location of Melissani Cave”
Once under water, the first thing to do is to find a treasure chest and another item important for exploring this location. After that, you can safely get out on land and enter the cave. Inside, you will again have to dive under the water. You should move on strictly forward, while trying not to turn anywhere. At the very end, the character will be in the depths of the cave. It is worth noting that this part of the cave contains useful resources (including iron). Having made your way a little further inside the cave, you will have to fight with two robbers – they will guard a valuable chest, so do not miss it. After searching the chest (which is also a local treasure), the exploration of the location will end, and the task will proceed to the final stage.
Now it remains to go back to the woman and talk to her about the spear. If you wish, you can either demand a reward, or deceive and not give the spear. In the second case, a completely ordinary spear remains on hand, but only of the third level. If you decide to act honestly and give up the spear, then you will receive only 2 drachmas.
Quest: Fight Talos
“Job Description”
The quest will be taken automatically immediately after Phoebe is rescued from local robbers who grabbed her on the beach called “Ktimen”.Don’t worry, you won’t be able to skip the task, because it is connected with the “Collecting Debts” storyline task.
In any case, open the main menu associated with the mercenary (the “O” key is responsible for this) and get acquainted with your first serious enemy. Please note that if you do not kill this person, then he will literally chase your character, because he was previously hired by Cyclops. Why? Because it will not work to buy off this employer, so Talos should be killed.
“Window with mercenaries”
However, keep in mind that it is pointless to fight him until the 5th character level. In addition, before completing this task, I recommend that you take the “Spartan Kick” ability, get adequate equipment and weapons (the main thing is that everything is suitable for the level). Until that moment, it is better to avoid meeting this person, because he is incredibly dangerous in the early stages of the passage. In this matter, you will be helped by the “Red Helmet” – the badge that marks the assassins. Thanks to this, you can avoid direct collisions, focusing on the map.
Assignment: “Without a hitch, without a hitch”
“Job Description”
The second building, which will be taken automatically after saving Phoebe in the course of the “Collecting Debts” story mission. Take the money from comrade Duris and return back to Marcos. At this point, a girl named Drusilla will appear. She will tell you that Marcos did not fulfill his promise, which he gave her.And the promise was that it was necessary to deal with the robbers. Thus, your character will have to take on the task.
Talk to Drusilla near the local workshop, then head to the northern part of the island to the marker. At the scene of the attack, it is necessary to study the tracks and the cart nearby (the third clue could not be found, perhaps some kind of bug, but in any case, even two clues are quite enough). It turns out that after the attack the robbers went westward and the distance from them is about 250 meters.
“The road by which you can get to the camp of robbers”
Open your map and find an icon with a question mark on the left side of the place where you conducted your investigation – go to this place. Soon, the character will be in a timber warehouse, where the robbers have established their new camp. There will be two archers and seven robbers in the camp. If desired, they can again be killed in stealth mode. Although you can enter into open confrontation. In any case, after the murder, you need to go back to the girl and report that the task has been completed.
Quest: Dread Fever
“Job Description”
The task can be taken only after Phoebe is saved from the “clutches” of robbers. It will be possible to find the girl on the mountain “Enos”, which is located next to the vineyard of Marcos. The girl will tell about some strange disease (plague) that literally covered the village nearby. The village is called Kausos.
Get down from the mountain and move to the marker, which is marked on the map (it will lead the character straight to the village). To find out about the dangerous plague and what awaits the poor family, talk to the local priest. After the dialogue, you have to decide what to do with your family.
- Option one. The solution is suitable for those who do not want to solve other people’s problems and thereby create problems for themselves. To do this, it is enough to leave everything now as it is and leave.
- Second option. In this case, you need to choose the option in which the character decides to help the family. To do this, the first step is to order the priest to let the whole family go. In this case, the massacre will begin. You will have to fight with the priest-archer and two of his wards warriors. After the victory, go to the marked marker. Talk to the family saved from death. As a reward, the head of the family will offer money (98 drachmas). Whether to take money or not is up to you. The passage of the task is completed in any case.
Quest: Stray Shark
“Job Description”
The quest is taken at the top of the island of Kefalonia, but a little to the left (again, next to the vineyard of Marcos). So in this place there are several people who will ask the protagonist / heroine to find an unusual necklace called “Procrida”, previously presented to the girl by Kefal himself.
After accepting the assignment, move to the southern lower coast of the island and carefully study the sea. There are ruins in this place, in the middle of which there is a chest. There will be a necklace inside. The only danger is sharks. Therefore, I recommend saving in advance in order to find a more suitable moment, get to the chest, quickly pick up the quest item and return back. Then the matter is small: go back to the quest givers and hand over the necklace. As a reward, you will receive XP and drachmas (182).
Quest: Thirst for Toughness
“Job Description”
It should be noted right away that the task will be activated automatically after the mercenary Talos is defeated during the passage of the additional task “Fight with Talos”. From the corpse, the mercenaries can take: valuable armor, drachmas (58), a couple of resources, an invitation to the arena.
The only problem with this quest is that you won’t be able to complete it until your character reaches at least level 25. Otherwise, it will just hang for now and you should not try to execute it. You will only waste your time.
Quest: Arrival
“Job Description”
The task is quite difficult to get, because the path to the quest giver is far from the closest. The first step is to get to the southeastern corner of Kefalonia (straight to the place where the unique astronomical laboratory is located).Following the coast, you need to find a town that is literally overflowing with robbers. And here on the top of the mountain (right in front of this gangster city) you can meet a character named Davos. After talking with him, you will find out the purpose of the assignment.
Next, you will need to free Davos, but for this you first need to clear the bandit camp. After the release of the character, you need to accompany him to the indicated safe place. Please note that he will specifically move through those points that are densely populated by enemies. In addition, there will be two Rogue leaders at once inside the camp.
Brother Davos
♦ Important point: If you decide to free this prisoner at the very beginning of the city, that is, from the opposite end of the cell where Davos is being held, one of the key stages in the study of this location can be completed at the same time.
As for the chests, there will be three of them in this place, and one of them is located right next to the cage where Davos is being held. And do not forget, after you see off brother Davos, to receive a reward: experience, “Bracers of the Rogue” (lvl 5) and drachmas (188).
Quest: A Little Odyssey
“Job Description”
During the passage of the storyline, a girl named Elpenora will send you to an island called Ithaca, which is located not far from the main island. And there, on the territory of the ancient ruins of the palace, it will be necessary to find Odessa, locked in a cage.Talk to her and subsequently free the girl. Next, you will need to escort Odessa to a safe place (talk and agree to provide assistance). Go in the company of the girl to the indicated place so that she looks at the ruins of the palace. The further path is also absolutely linear, so when you get to the coast of the island, talk and get a reward (XP and drachmas (195)).
“The location of the captured girl”
♦ Helpful Hint: Odessa is the very first character with whom a character can have an affair.Since absolutely all novels in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey do not depend on gender in any way, both female and male characters can start it. In the mode called “Hero”, the line that hints at the novel is highlighted in the form of a “heart”. In general, choose this dialogue option and get the opportunity to develop further serious relationship with the girl.
Part – 2: “Region of Megaris” (All tasks)
Quest: “One is not a warrior in the field”
The quest will be available from Stentor. As a reward, you will receive experience points. Despite the fact that the quest is one of the side quests, it is better to complete it. Because this is how you can make the process of war easier for yourself when you capture the Megaris region. The fact is that the most effective way to destabilize the situation in any region is to kill the warriors of the main nation in the region.
Thus, it is quite possible that you yourself will not notice how you complete this task. Because all you have to do is kill 20 Athenian fighters. At the same time, always remember that captains, together with polemarchs, have the greatest influence on the overall stability of the region, but it is also more difficult to kill them. A large number of these enemies can be found either in camps or in fortresses.
Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. Walkthrough side quests
It is better to always start destabilizing the situation in the region with a fortress called Gerania – a huge fort located in the north, on the slope of Mount Gerania (in the western part of the forest called Tripodiska).Due to the fact that there are a huge number of enemies in this place, it is best to start clearing the fort with the utmost care. Once again, it is better to try not to get on the rampage, because the lion’s share of fighters will come running to any noise.
Where exactly to begin the assault on the fort, any player can decide for himself, but I recommend getting rid of the captain and the polemarch first. Why? Because these are the most dangerous opponents in the fortress and be sure that you definitely do not want them to come to the aid of their comrades-in-arms.
A local captain will guard the passage to the inside of the fort. In theory, it is quite possible to lure him out of the fort, but even taking into account a sudden attack, it will not be possible to kill him immediately, because he is an elite enemy. For that if you lure him out of the fort, you can not be afraid that he will make a noise – no one will hear him.
But with the polemarch everything will be a little more complicated, because he is chilling out on his balcony in the northern part of the region. The first problem is that he is much closer to his charges. Therefore, it would be quite a reasonable option to clean up the area around it first. The second problem is that the polemarch itself is more resilient and stronger opponents, so you will have to fight with him for a long time. However, if you take the “Second Wind” ability, which restores at least as much as 35% of your maximum health, it will be easier to fight with it.
In addition, it is important to try to inflict the first blow to the enemy, first sneaking up from the back or making a powerful shot from the bow, but this will require the “Crushing Shot” skill and some exotic arrow. The only thing left to do is to dodge and parry the blows, counter-attacking along the way.
The rest of the enemies should not cause problems. The main thing is to use shelters like bushes and grass. The ability “Swift surprise attack” and “Assassin from the shadows” will be especially useful. Moreover, these two skills are definitely needed, because the last skill increases the damage from blows that are delivered covertly, and the second skill makes it possible to make a chain of such blows.
Part – 3: “Phocis Region” (All tasks)
Within the framework of this material, we will analyze the secondary tasks that can be found on the territory of Phokis in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.Quests are listed in the order of the recommended sequence of their completion.
Quest: Pirate Life
Issued by Quake. On the way to Megaris, you passed the so-called forgotten island on the outskirts of the Phocis region. A wrecked ship has washed up on the shore of this small piece of land, on the deck of which a carpenter named Tekton is waiting for a miracle. The pirates grabbed his brother and do not let him go. We need to help.
Travel southeast – Quake will ride with you – to find a small pirate island (called Pirate Island) west of Boeotia. After disembarking, summon Icarus to mark all nearby enemies and find your target.
Before letting Quake’s brother out of the cage, we advise you to deal with his captors. If you decide to do it quietly, we advise you to invest skill points in enhancing a surprise attack and buying a powerful version of it – for some bandits one hidden strike may not be enough.
After killing all the pirates, loot the nearby treasure chest – resources will never be surplus – and set the nameless prisoner free.Unfortunately, the time spent in the cage negatively affected his health. You can cheer up the interlocutor, but he still won’t live to the end of the conversation.
Return to Quake and inform him of your brother’s fate. If you decide to lie, the carpenter will get angry and leave. Tell the truth – get a new member of your ship crew. Regardless of the choice made, the quest will be completed, and you will receive a well-deserved reward.
Quest: Seeking a Team
Issued by Captain Gelon. On the shore near the pier of the city of Kirra, in the south of Phocis, Gelon, the captain of the missing ship “Shark Tooth”, shifts from foot to foot. Your task is to find the disappeared schooner and the most dear member of the team for Gelon, named Geeki. They were last seen in the bay near the hill of the holy war.
Move east until you find Bulis’s military camp – there is yet to return, so remember this place. The wreckage of the Gelon ship will be scattered along the coast nearby. Call Icarus to inspect the crash site – apparently, the team was eaten by sharks.
Swim towards aggressive fish. If you don’t want to fight them on their territory, then we advise you to climb onto a boat drifting in the middle of the bay and shoot sharks from a safe distance with a bow. Another reason in favor of this approach is that later you will be able to collect the treasures scattered on the seabed without looking back.
Dive into the water and swim towards the algae growing below. Among them rests the body of Giki, from which the hero will remove the commemorative bracelet. On the way to the surface, take with you the contents of both chests nearby – part of the loot collected by the Shark Tooth team was appropriated by the residents of the Bulis military camp.
There are not so many enemies here (only six), but the territory of the fortification is so small that there is practically nowhere to hide – except in the thickets of grass behind some tents. Nevertheless, you will most likely be able to lure a couple of enemies into the bushes unnoticed, but then problems may arise.
In this regard, we advise you to get rid of ordinary opponents from afar – the combination of a good bow and the “Crushing Shot” skill works flawlessly – and deal with the captain in open combat. This enemy is too powerful to neutralize with a surprise attack (even a powerful path).
When all enemies are dead, open both chests marked by the quest indicator – one large, the other small – and return to Gelon with sad news. Left without a ship and crew, she will be able to join the crew of the Adrestia.
Quest: “Help the Healer”
Issued by Lycaon. A local physician named Lycaon works not far from the Pythia’s house in Hora Delphi. His patients need the leaves of the mandrake, which grows by the stream to the east.To the hero’s reasonable question why the doctor cannot go for medicines himself, the healer will answer that he is afraid of the wolves living in that area.
There really were a lot of four-legged predators near the stream – about six. If you don’t want to go down to them at the distance of an outstretched paw, then we strongly recommend getting a decent bow and pouring a few skill points into the “Hunter” branch: theoretically, all wolves can be shot from the rocks nearby without any problems.
When there are no hostile animals in the vicinity, start collecting mandrake – this is a small gray-green plant near the banks of the stream.Watch your step for any clues about interactions with herbs. After picking enough leaves, return to Lycaon.
The healer will grind the herbs and pack them into bags, which you have to distribute to the three patients. All of them will be marked on the map, and this time you will not need to go far. Upon returning to Lycaon, the hero will note that patients are more concerned not with their own health, but with the well-being of their attending physician.
Lycaon will dismiss the praise, offering to take a portion of the medicine to his grandmother. However, this story is for another quest. For completing the passage of this one, you will receive about four thousand experience points.
Quest: Past Misdeeds
Issued by Lycaon. At the end of the quest “Help to the healer” you will be given a new one – on condition that the hero agrees to Lycaon’s invitation to accompany him to the house of Praxithea’s grandmother. On the way to her house, the healer will tell you that in the past she was not an entirely honest oracle. It is possible, thus, that he condemned the protagonist’s family to suffering.
Lycaon wants to punish his grandmother for past sins, but upon arriving at the place, he will only find his disgruntled sister – Praxithea, in the morning, was dragged away by bandits in an unknown direction. To resolve the grandson’s conflict of interest, the old woman needs to be found.
On the floor of the cramped veranda of the house, there is a bracelet of a stolen woman lying around – ordinary thieves would not have thrown such a jewel – and under a tree behind the building lie the remains of a contract, which says about the delivery of a certain “cargo”. There is a possibility that the text is talking about Praxitheus.
Finally, talk to a peasant on the side of the road nearby. His sister’s house was taken over by bandits who settled in a camp to the west of this place. After collecting all three evidence, return to Lycaon and report on your findings – the old woman was kidnapped and ordered not to kill.
However, her grandson intends to do this. You can try to dissuade him or start to sulk in front of your sister – there is no difference, since in any case Lycaon will ask you to deal with the kidnappers. This will end this quest and start a new one.
Quest: “The Worst of All Strikes”
Issued by Lycaon. If at the end of the last side quest – “Past Misdeeds” – you agreed to help Lycaon find his grandmother, then now go in search of her. The woman is being held in a hut located in the central part of the “Sacred Lands of Apollo” area (see screenshot above).
Having arrived at the place, scout the situation with the help of Icarus – Praxithea is kept in a cage next to the house, which is guarded by four bandits and a dog.Theoretically, the old woman can be released without killing anyone, but in this case, on the way to freedom, she is more likely to attract undue attention to herself.
Enemies walk around the farm at a decent distance from each other, so if you want you can kill everyone in stealth mode – the skill “Rapid surprise attack” to help. The only problem can arise except with a dog lover – kill the owner with a stealthy blow, and finish off the animal in an open battle.
Having released Praxithea, run after her to a safe place and ask the old woman about her past sins – it was she who doomed the protagonist’s sister / brother to death. When there are no questions left, Lycaon will join the conversation, and you will have to make an important choice. Options for the development of events:
- “It’s you who must kill her” – Alexios / Kassandra push the doctor to kill, but he does not dare and the heroes disagree on this.
- “Cruelty won’t change anything” – your character convinces your grandson to stop wishing his grandmother death, he admires the protagonist’s decisiveness and, in front of his elderly relative, offers him sex.
- “I will kill her” – the hero will not allow Lycaon to tarnish his status as a doctor and will kill the old woman himself. The process of deprivation of an elderly lady’s life must be controlled by you.
Regardless of the decision made, you will receive your reward – several hundred drachmas, the epic “Helmet of Prophecy” and about five thousand experience points.
Quest: “Age is not a hindrance”
Issued by Auxesia. Not far from the Temple of Apollo in Delphi, a lively old woman named Auxesia is walking down the street. Her husband Koragos cannot “quench his wife’s thirst for comfort”. The lady does not want to change her spouse for a younger boyfriend, so she asks the hero to bring her the ingredients for the love elixir – the scrotum of a bear and the tongue of a deer.
Fortunately, there is no need to cut out specific organs from animals – it will be enough just to kill the specified animal. Both, according to Avxesia, are found in the northern part of Mount Parnassus. Icarus can make the search easier: after getting close to the halo of game habitat, release the eagle and let him examine the area from a bird’s eye view.
It is better not to come close to the bear – it will stagger – therefore, if possible, try to kill the predator with an accurate shot in the head. Use Crushing Shot and Expert Archer to increase the damage dealt by ranged weapons.
With deer in this regard, it is much easier – initially they do not even attack the hero. Compared to the hulking grizzlies, however, these animals are much more agile, which makes it not so easy to hit them. Wait for the beast to slow down or stop altogether, then take a shot.
Take the ingredients from both animals and return to Auxesia. Her husband was not too pleased with the news of the miraculous elixir – the spouses’ dispute can be interrupted by the protagonist:
- “Pay me” – the protagonist will receive a monetary reward and leave.
- “I can satisfy your hunger” – Alexios / Kassandra will take upon herself the husband’s marital duty, for which he will receive verbal and material gratitude from him.
- “I was glad to help” – your character will show his altruistic nature and leave the spouses alone, without demanding anything from them.
Quest: Photius Wants to Rest
Given by Photius. Again, not far from the Temple of Apollo, an old friend of Alexios / Kassandra, Photius, walks from side to side, who, after many years of mercenary activity, decided to become a guard. The trouble is that the treasury entrusted to him was robbed by the priests – they stole the sapphires.
Before taking on the assignment, you need to talk about the future reward. If you wish, you can refuse the fee – Photius will appreciate your dedication and, in addition to the above list of “sweets”, will give the hero a rare bib.
However, the reward still needs to be earned. Go to the cave on the outskirts of Delphi – its location will be marked on your map. Inside the protagonist are two archers, two ordinary soldiers and one captain. The platform at the entrance to the combat area of the location is great for throwing opponents out of there.
After killing the bandits or sneaking past them, go down to the lower tier of the cave, where the corpse of one of the thieving priests lies. Search the body to retrieve a note that tells of a meeting at Desfina Fortress, a fort in the northwest of the Holy War Hill area (see below).screenshot above).
Climb the fortress wall and move counterclockwise – from the main gate to the left – along the road (preferably imperceptibly), eliminating the patrolmen. Sapphires are in a three-story building, one tier below the chest with the local treasury. Below the building is well guarded, but there is no protection from above – take advantage of this.
After mining the gems stained with the blood of the priests, return to Delphi immediately or linger in the fortress to collect resources, money and perform optional tasks in the area.Photius will be delighted with your find and, as a small bonus, will give the hero a trinket from the treasury.
Quest: Daughters of Artemis
Given by Daphne. The last and objectively the most difficult side mission in Phocis involves the murder of the legendary animal. Travel to the Temple of Artemis in the north of the sacred lands of Apollo. Directly next to the building, Daphne, one of the daughters of the goddess of the hunt, is waiting for her champion.
The warrior has a task for Alexios / Kassandra – to slay the wild boar that is found in these parts. We are talking about the Calydonian boar – the famous Crommion pig from the myths of Ancient Greece. The monster lives in a swamp in the northwest of the location.
It goes without saying that a monster of this caliber cannot be easily killed, so you should prepare. One of the most disgusting features of this animal is the ability to summon four smaller boars to its aid. They run around the arena, butt, distract from the boss and generally only slow down the whole process.
The boar uses his summoning skills three times per battle – having lost a quarter of his health points, two quarters and three quarters – and each time he manages to restore himself a little vitality, which only delays the fight. It is important to note that the boss will only be able to summon a new squad of pigs after the death of the previous one.
Thus, the easiest way to significantly facilitate a fight with the Calydonian boar is to stun the pigs that appear out of nowhere. This is done using paralyzing arrows, which you can unlock with the Arrow Lord skill from the hunting skill tree.
Do not forget to stock up on a sufficient (read: maximum) number of charges – “small” boars run fast, and it’s no wonder to miss.A couple of other useful ranged skills for this fight are Crushing Shot and Expert Archer. The first increases the damage from specific volleys, the second – from all. Summed up.
Having shot the pigs, you will stun them until the end of the battle – from a technical point of view, they are not dead, and therefore the main boar will no longer be able to summon anyone. After killing small animals, stay away from them so as not to accidentally finish them off in the heat of the battle with the boss himself.
As for the Calydonian boar itself, this is a huge (by the standards of ordinary animals) creature that can cause a lot of harm to the hero in a very short time.In this regard, be sure to have the “Second Wind” skill with you – due to one adrenaline cell, it allows you to instantly restore 25% of your health.
Among the offensive skills, the most useful will be “Flaming Strikes” / “Poisonous Strikes” and related skills that increase the effectiveness of the selected “element”. Fire / Poison will inflict periodic damage on the enemy, including preventing the boss from potential health regeneration.
The choice of weapon does not really matter – this is a matter of pure taste. The spear is suitable for poking the beast from a relatively safe distance, daggers are best used in close proximity to the target, and so on. Choose a sword / ax / mace to your liking and use it.
Nevertheless, before meeting with the monster, we recommend that you look at the blacksmith to bring your equipment in line with the character’s level and, if possible, apply engravings. Among the available are, for example, an increase in damage to all animals. Including the legendary.
Due to the fact that, except for the head, the monster has nothing more to attack with corny, we recommend keeping the sides of the boar. This will allow you to strike without fear of getting one more time in the face and will make it possible to easily jump back (for this you need to hold down the dodge button) from danger when it appears.
Don’t even try to fend off the boar’s attacks – it will knock you to death – so concentrate on dodging. If you get away from the blow at the last moment, time will slow down for a few seconds, and you can launch a swift counterattack.
When the beast is running away from you, do not hesitate to use ranged skills like the already mentioned “Crushing Shot”.A few accurate hits like this, and the boss will lose a significant part of his impressive health bar. However, it is not worth “being greedy” – it is better to dodge the beast rushing at the hero.
If after this material you still have problems with the Calydonian Boar at your current level, then do not hesitate to take a break to do something else in the world of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and save up experience. The legendary beast will not run away from the hero of “Odyssey” anywhere.
When the boar is defeated, finish off the paralyzed pigs scattered around the arena and collect materials for crafting from the corpses. If you killed this beast before meeting Daphne (for example, accidentally stumbled upon a monster), then a hunter will come to congratulate the hero on the victory and invite you to a meeting with the leader of the Daughters of Artemis. Return to the Temple of Artemis for your reward – the bow of the goddess of the hunt – and the quest to slay the remaining seven legendary creatures.
Part – 4: “Region of Attica” (All tasks)
Detailed instructions for completing optional tasks in the fourth region, where the hero of the ancient Greek “Odyssey” from Ubisoft stops.Within the framework of this material, we will analyze the secondary tasks that can be found on the territory of Attica in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Quests are listed in the order they appear on the map and are completed.
Quest: For the People
Issuer: Cleon. Reward: experience points, money, a rare helmet On the Pnyx hill – the very one where you first met Pericles – Cleon walks from side to side with an important assignment for the protagonist. We advise you to visit this politician as soon as possible, because as the plot progresses, he will eventually cease to be available.
From the protagonist Cleon needs help in the fight against the Spartans, who have set up camps literally outside the Athenian walls. Your task is to destroy enemy supplies, kill the commander, and then return to the “customer” and demonstrate evidence of the atrocities committed.
Move to the northwest – in this direction you will find the Aharne and Odomant camps. Despite the instructions to finish off the polemarch, the game, for one reason she knows, will require the death of the “odomant” captain. It is in his pockets that the hero will find a note with a hint of the next mission from Cleon.
As for the task itself, it is not completely required to clear the locations from enemies. Moreover: you don’t even need to come close to the reserves marked by the quest indicator: just shoot them with a fiery arrow – you will need the appropriate skill – and move on.
An alternative is to destroy the supplies by hitting or throwing your own torch. The advantage of this strategy is that you can pick up several dozen units of resources for your beloved, and the disadvantage is that on the way to the goal, the hero will probably be noticed (the camps are very small), and then you will either have to run away or engage in a fight.
The latter is not recommended, since even with the alarm raised, it is quite possible to set fire to boxes with enemy supplies and give a fight – no one will chase you beyond a certain point anyway. As for the captain, he walks around surrounded by his comrades, so here in most cases an open battle cannot be avoided.
The good news is, again, that you can focus solely on the commander, and, having defeated him, pick up the note from the corpse and quickly move on your way. After reviewing the contents of the piece of paper obtained by the protagonist, Cleon will ask you to find his messenger Geremos. But this is a completely different task.
Quest: In the Camp of the Enemy
Issuer: Cleon. Reward: experience points, money, rare boots. Messenger Geremos carried out an assignment of state importance for Cleon, but in the process of fulfilling his duty he was captured by the Spartans and sent to the local quarry. Your task is to find the ancient Greek courier, rescue him from captivity and drag him to the ship provided by Cleon.
Go to the quarry and see the place from a bird’s eye view. The poor and, apparently, long-dead messenger Cleon was hung by the neck on a wooden turret in the center of the location. Make your way to the “gallows”, preferably in a stealth mode getting rid of enemies along the way, and examine the messenger. This completes the task – there is no one to save.
Quest: Liberation
Issued by: automatically upon completion of the task “In the camp of the enemy”. Reward: experience points, money, a rare helmet. Before you have time to be upset about the death of Geremos at the quarry, the attention of the protagonist will be attracted by another prisoner of the Spartans – Captain Onomacle. Go down to him and open the cage. The sailor cannot move on his own two feet yet, so the poor fellow will have to be dragged to a safe place on his shoulders.
The Spartans will probably try to stop the protagonist, but even with such a heavy load, you can simply escape from the chase. The guards do not run too fast, and they do not like to leave their posts unnecessarily far. After moving a sufficient distance from the quarry, put the captain on the ground and talk to him.
It turns out that Onomaklu urgently needs to board his ship, which is “parked” at the marathon beach in the south. If you don’t want to drag a healthy man on foot, call Phobos and load Onomacle on his back. In this case, the way to the goal will take much less time.
Upon arrival, it turns out that the Spartans have also captured the crew of the Onomacle ship, and an enemy trireme is floating in the harbor nearby. The kidnappers must be killed, the crew must be freed, and the enemy’s warship must be sunk. Let’s start in order.
There are only six enemy soldiers on the beach, and most of them (in fact, all of them) can be interrupted from afar using the bow and the Crushing Shot ability. Another option is to rush into the arena and release Onomacle’s sailors to help you in battle.
When overland affairs are over, teleport to the Adrestia – this can be done while controlling Icarus – and sail towards the Spartan trireme.Despite its formidable appearance, it will not be able to provide serious resistance: having reduced the “health” of the ship to zero, crash the ship with a ram or board.
After completing all tasks, return to Onomaklu. Even if you left him astride Phobos, now he will stand on foot in the middle of the beach cleared by the hero from the Spartans. Saying goodbye to Onomacle, go to Athens and report everything to Cleon to receive a well-deserved reward.
Quest: Create Opportunity
Issuer: Demosthenes.Reward: experience points, money, an epic set of Demosthenes armor. Also passing the quests “Wise Warrior”, “Amidst Chaos”, “Fast as the Wind”, “Last Request”. At the feet of a huge gilded statue of Athena in the sanctuary of the acropolis, the Athenian commander Demosthenes (not to be confused with the namesake-orator) is marking time. From the hero, the military wants to receive three seals of the Spartan polemarchs, which you will earn for killing this type of enemy.
The requests from Demosthenes are so voluminous that he has the same tasks, but each time with a new name – as many as five (see.heading above). For completing each, in addition to monetary rewards and experience, you will receive one item from the Demosthenes armor set.
Polemarchs are the most dangerous and armored type of enemy that can only be found in fortresses. Such enemies of a gold color are designated by an emblem with a border around the perimeter and a small crown at the top. Not to be confused with captains indicators without an additional strip along the edges.
So that the passage of the tasks of Demosthenes does not bother you too much, do not rush to complete them, but just move through the game at your own pace. The polemarchs needed by the military leader “live” in the Spartan fortresses (and even then not all) on the territory of the regions in which this faction dominates at this particular moment.
You do not need to clear the entire fort – you are only interested in polemarchs. If possible, try to visit fortresses at night in order to reduce the number of guards present on the site compared to the day shift. It is better to kill polemarchs as quickly as possible, otherwise you can draw undue attention to your person.
The choice of a fortress to eliminate the polemarch depends on the dominant faction in the region, however, in our opinion, one of the most favorable fortifications for performing these tasks are the following:
- Miltiades on the island of Mykonos – the polemarch often stands at the edge of the fortress wall, from where he can be successfully thrown with a Spartan kick.
- Pharsalas in Phocis region – The polemarch is located far from the rest of the garrison and can be defeated in battle without raising an alarm throughout the base.
For an open fight with a polemarch, you will almost always need the Shield Break and Second Wind skills. The first is to deprive the enemy of protection, the second is to restore health if necessary. We also recommend bringing Poisonous Strikes / Flaming Strikes with you for damage over time.
After dealing with the polemarch, search his body to obtain the corresponding seal.Collect three of these – return to Demosthenes for a reward. Repeat the entire procedure four more times to receive heartfelt thanks from the commander and assemble a set of his epic (this is not an epithet, but the name of a category of equipment) armor.
Task: “Test for Citizenship”
Issuer: Alcibiades. Reward: experience points, money, a rare belt. Alcibiades – the same ward of Pericles with, to put it mildly, free views on sexual relations – after you pass the chapter “The Way to Symposium” will stand near the temple of Hephaestus in the center of the city and argue with Socrates. The hero is required to help Alcibiades’ friend illegally get on the list for obtaining citizenship.
Go to the metron (temple) marked on the map on the outskirts of the local agora. The passage inside is forbidden – there are guards everywhere, so you will have to look for a workaround. Fortunately, on the right side of the building, you can discreetly get close to the guard looking at the shelves.
Cut him out if you don’t want to kill, and jump over the rack – the document you need will be on the opposite side.Put the name of Alcibiades’ buddy on the list and follow the same route back to the “customer” for a reward and potentially another side quest.
Assignment: “There is a witness”
Issuer: Alcibiades after completing the “Citizenship Test” task. Reward: experience points, money, a rare mace. It turns out that the name alone on the right list for Sophan (that is the name of Alcibiades’ friend) is not enough to obtain citizenship – a witness is required. A suitable man named Peroi often hangs out near the local court, east of the agora.
Move in the indicated direction until you are prompted to summon Icarus. Find Feather with the eagle and approach him to talk. It turns out that Sophan is not exactly an ideal candidate for citizenship – in the past he “betrayed his people for the money.” In light of the new information about Zopana, you will have three options for further action:
- Threaten Peroy – threats will not work on him, you will have to beat the man. Free option.
- Pay Peroy – collectors annoy the witness, and patronage will cost you 200 drachmas.
- Change his mind to convince Peroy – the hero decides that Sophan does not deserve citizenship, and simply leaves.
Regardless of the decision made, return to Alcibiades and report to him about the positive or negative results of the meeting with the potential witness. One way or another, the quest will be completed, and Socrates, in any case, will ask the hero another philosophical problem.
Quest: Freedom of Speech
Issuer: Aristophanes after completing the tasks “Test for citizenship” and “There is a witness.”Reward: experience points, money, rare leggings. After the main character helped or did not help Alcibiades’ friend to obtain Athenian citizenship, Socrates would move to the area of the acropolis sanctuary. There you will find him in the company of Aristophanes, who is unhappy with the actions of his fellow playwright Hermippus. Ignoring the efforts of Pericles, in his works he praises Cleon.
To the protagonist’s reasonable question, why doesn’t Aristophanes deal with his friend personally, and not scratch his tongue with a philosopher, the comedian will answer that he cannot find Hermippe anywhere, and will offer to do it to Alexios / Cassandra.Go to the residence of the missing playwright – follow the game tips or see the map above.
Inspect the building from a bird’s eye view – the villa is guarded by several guards, from whom, in theory, you can not get rid of, but in practice, this will most likely have to be done to avoid unnecessary noise. To activate the quest on the territory of the Hermippe estate, you need to make your way into a small patio. Having received the goal to find out where Hermippus is now, climb the wall to the upper floors. Here you will find three pieces of evidence:
- Cult of the Cosmos member mask – on a pile of carpets in a turret on the north side of the building.
- Note from Cleon with necessary corrections for Cleon’s play – on the door to the bedroom.
- A bag of money – on the floor of the balcony opposite the turret.
After collecting evidence, return to Aristophanes and tell him about your findings. In addition to your usual reward for completing a side quest, you will also receive all the necessary clues to identify the next cultist – this time Hermippe.
Quest: Riding
Issued by: Socrates after completing the Freedom of Speech assignment. Reward: experience points, money, a rare chestpiece. After the main character finds out why Hermippus praises Cleon and not Pericles in his songs, Socrates will move to the port of Piraeus. When you approach him, the philosopher will look thoughtfully at the stolen horse. The thief is nearby, and Socrates still cannot decide how to deal with him.
Head to the Piraeus workshop southwest of the port – this is where the horse thief was last seen. The location is guarded, so do not stay on its territory for a long time. As soon as he notices Alexios / Kassandra, the criminal will immediately give a fight – run after him.
The thief will eventually run out of steam and stop, giving you a chance to engage in conversation with him. It turns out that the theft was forced – the family has no money, but help is needed on the farm. In addition, the owner of the stolen horse, most likely, will not notice the loss – he has a lot of horses, and this one is one of the most frail.
Having clarified the circumstances of the crime, return to Socrates and express your opinion about the horse thief – should he return the horse to the owner or not.Be that as it may, the philosopher will finally present you with a moral dilemma of a similar nature – whether a person who killed one for the good of many deserves punishment.
Quest: The Value of a Life
Issued by: Faidon after completing the quest “On a Horse”. Reward: experience points, money, an epic staff. Not far from the mining town of Lavrion, a slave named Faidon sits near a tent. He paid for his freedom, but the owner refuses to accept the deal and refuses to release his slave. The hero promises to sort out the problem – go up to the entrance to the mine and talk to the chief.
The master of the slave will turn out to be a sectarian and, in exchange for the freedom of Phaidon, he will ask the hero to kill a woman – a mother and a wet nurse – because the Cult of the Cosmos wanted it. When asked why Alexios / Kassandra does not finish off the slave owner on the spot, he will give a simple answer – without him, Phaidon will not get his freedom.
On the way from the owner, the hero will be met by Socrates and drawn into a discussion about the importance of the life of various people. After talking with the philosopher, the protagonist will firmly decide to reject the cultist’s offer, even though this means the continuation of slavery for Phaidon.
The sectarian is quite happy with this alignment – “someone else will kill her,” he says, and therefore this quest has come to an end. At the end of the conversation, in addition to the standard rewards, you can also receive the legendary viper hood, if you decide to finish off the cultist – one surprise attack will be enough for him.
Task: “A friend is known in need”
Issuer: Gator.Reward: Experience Points, Gator’s Epic Chestpiece / Gator’s Epic Harp. On the outskirts of the village of Dekelei, in the north of Attica, an old friend of the protagonist named Gator works as a blacksmith. One captain took the sword away from him in exchange for the one he could not repair. The weapon is kept in a chest in the Phila fortress, northwest of Dhekelei.
Move in the indicated direction and inspect the fort from a bird’s eye view: the tent in which the blade is held is guarded by several soldiers day and night. If you decide to act loudly, then before entering the battle, we advise you to quietly cut out the rest of the fortress, so that the nearby warriors do not run to the noise.
Stealth version of the passage involves long hide and seek in the bushes and grass, luring the guards with a whistle, well-aimed headshots using the “Crushing Shot” skill and quick response to force majeure situations. Don’t forget to equip yourself with swift and powerful surprise attacks as well.
Having dealt with the enemies or sneaking past them, look into the tent and take Gator’s weapon from the chest, and then return to him yourself. If you wish, you can deceive a friend and keep the blade for yourself, but what kind of comrade are you after that? And the sword of Gator, to be honest, compared to the legendary ones, is so-so.
Quest: Gator and Friends
Issuer: Gator after completing the task “A friend is known in trouble”. Reward: experience points, money, Gator’s rare cabins. After the end of the showdown with the missing sword, Geytor will ask the protagonist for one more service – to save his old friend and mercenary from captivity.Who he is and how he got into captivity is not specified, but the protagonist still decides to help.
The Ramnunt military camp you need is located northeast of Dhekelei. Follow this direction or simply consult the terrain map attached above. After getting close to a sufficient distance, call Icarus and inspect the bandit base from a bird’s eye view.
A leopard is locked in the cage next to the mercenary, so if you wish, you can sow confusion in the enemy ranks by setting the beast free. However, with a high degree of probability, you yourself will become the first victim of the animal, so use this strategy only in extreme cases.
Geytor’s friend has serious problems with navigation in space – do not even try to take him out through the front door, you will bury yourself with this mission for a long time – therefore, first of all, we advise you to at least slightly knock down the enemy squad from the grass. Camp – the location is quite open, however, there is plenty of room for stealth maneuvers here.
If you release the mercenary from the cage ahead of time, he may well be killed. The mission will not end there, the hero will simply have to face Gator alone. In this case, the blacksmith will not be particularly upset, however, he will not tell his story either, so it is better not to allow the death of his friend.
Go down to the boat abandoned by Gator together with the mercenary – the heroes will be greeted by Gator himself. He came to kill the man you just rescued from captivity. If you don’t want to deal with all this, just select the “Ok, kill him” option to get the reward you owe and leave.Decide to listen to Geytor and Himilko (that is the name of the mercenary), you will learn that they are both to blame for the death of their beloved woman – their mistress and wife, respectively. You are required to decide what to do:
- The options “This will not bring her back” and “She died by accident” will lead to a peaceful end of the quest.
- The “Deal with yourself” option will cause Gator to beat Khimilko to death.
Regardless of the decision made, you will receive your reward for completing this quest – even in the event of Khimilko’s premature death – one way or another.
Quest: “The Disease Will Continue”
Issued by: Hippocrates during the chapter “From the Ashes”. Reward: experience points, money, a rare staff of Hippocrates. This mission will be available only during the chapter “From the Ashes”, after which it will disappear from the game map forever. The plagued streets of Athens are literally bursting with corpses, and Hippocrates needs help with the burning of bodies – the distraught followers of Ares prevent the doctor from doing his work.
There are six Plague Dead in total nearby – they will be marked with quest markers, don’t miss them. For the forced cremation of the deceased townspeople, you can use both a torch (hit or throw), and fire arrows, if you want to deal with the task quickly.
When all the bodies have been burned, the aforementioned followers of Ares will come rushing in. Kill them to complete the mission and, in addition to experience points, get some money and a rare staff that belonged to Hippocrates.
Part – 5: “Pirate Islands” (All missions)
Detailed instructions on making money on Keos, Lestris and Serifos and completing search tasks from Xenia Within the framework of this material, we will analyze the secondary tasks that can be found on the territory of the islands of Keos, Lestris and Serifos in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.Quests are listed in the order they appear.
Quest: A Chest Full of Drachmas
Where issued: Keos. Issuer: Ksenia. Reward: experience points, money, a rare ax. If, as part of the “Island of Bad Luck” quest, you tell Xenia that you do not have enough money to buy information from her, the queen of the local pirates will invite Alexios / Kassandra to visit the fort on the far side of the island – they allegedly contain a lot of drachmas.
And indeed, in the Koressia fortress in the south-west of Keos, they contain a chest with the local treasury.Be careful: if you do not initially weaken this region, then the local leader with his high-level retinue will walk around the fort, which can seriously complicate the passage.
Try to get close to the treasury chest without attracting attention. The easiest way to do this is by entering the fortress from the side of the sea – there are fewer guards there – at night or along the fortress wall. It is patrolled by several soldiers, but it also passes close to where your target is.
In the end, nothing prevents, inadvertently raising the alarm, simply to break into the treasury, steal the contents of the chest and escape.Consider only that it takes a few seconds to plunder the treasury, within which the hero needs to stand still. So choose the moment to steal with this feature in mind. When the box is looted, the mission will automatically end, and you will receive the owed several thousand drachmas and experience points.
Quest: We Are Not Thieves
Where issued: Keos. Issuer: Obelia. Reward: experience points, money, a rare mace. In the port of Koressia, a pirate named Obelia can be found in the market. She wanted to find a treasure for Xenia, but the sign with the landmarks was stolen. The catch is that the exiled ruler of the town, with which the pirates currently have a truce, did it. This means that someone is needed not from Xenia’s brigade.
After agreeing to complete the assignment, go to the village of Poyessa in the east of Keos – there is the house of the leader who stole the tablet. Apparently, in a hurry, the unfortunate thief left such a valuable item on the open and, most importantly, not protected top floor of the building.
Get close to the structure from the side of the rocks – in this case, on the way to the sign you will not meet any resistance – and climb up the wall. After taking the map from the floor, go down to the village by the same road that the hero got here (so as not to disturb the guards), and find the comrade Obelia, about whom she spoke.
In its place, you will find an enterprising pirate in person. Even if you do not ask her for your reward, then at the end of the conversation you will still receive it and the offer of another side quest.
Quest: We Are The Treasure Seekers
Where issued: Keos. Granted by: Obelia after completing the “We are not thieves” quest. Reward: experience points. After you return Obelia to her tablet with directions for finding the treasure, the pirate will ask Alexios / Kassandra to find this treasure. Fortunately, you don’t have to go far – the artifact is stored in the flooded Mycenaean ruins near the southern coast of Keos.
Having arrived at the place – for this it is best to use the “Adrestia” or any other boat in working order – call Icarus and, from a bird’s eye view, mark all the sharks hiding under the water column. Before diving, we advise you to shoot these predatory fish from a bow so that no one interferes with you in conditions of lack of oxygen.
Once under the water, go down to the lower level of the flooded temple – for this, you first have to swim through the hole in the roof, and the tier below – in the floor. Try not to get stuck anywhere, since the hero’s lung capacity is not infinite, and an excess of fluid in the body has an extremely negative effect on health.
With the artifact in hand, return to the surface – Obelia’s pirate ship will be “parked” nearby. After climbing onto the deck, talk to the captain. It turns out that she was not going to pay for the work you did and is not going to. There are several options:
- “Take the treasure” – the hero gives the artifact to Obelia and leaves with nothing, but safe and sound.
- “I have no treasure” – Obelia will not believe the protagonist and decides to search his corpse. In other words, the entire crew of the ship is taking up arms against you.
- “You are finished” – aggression towards Obelia will lead to the same consequences as lying.
In the first case, the quest will end with the conversation, and in the last two there is no need to kill the entire crew – to complete the task, it will be enough to send only the pirate-deceiver to the next world, and then safely sail away.
Quest: “Under the Pirate Flag”
Where issued: Keos. Issuer: manager. Reward: experience points, money, a rare dagger, a theme for the ship. In the port of Koressia, a confident-looking one-eyed man stands on the deck of a ship under construction. This is the manager, and he wants to show the ships invading the waters of Keos who owns this island. You are required to sink two triremes of the Athenians, Spartans and pirates in the Keos area.
This must be done exclusively under the flag issued to the hero (and the color of the case). Go to the “Adrestia” menu and select a new theme for it “Colors of Keos”. Then go to the nearest harbor, call the ship and go out to the open sea.
The ships of the named factions are easy to identify: the Athenians move under blue sails, the Spartans under red sails, and the pirates under dark gray / black sails. There are many suitable ships sailing around the island, but in order not to complicate your life once again, choose the smaller triremes – they are also the most frail.
Also try not to get involved in mass fights – even with the Adrestia improved in all respects in the flea market, it is easy to lose count of the ship’s health points and go to the bottom – and not sink the white and gold sails passing by. Merchants and mercenaries swim under them in the Odyssey, respectively.
Another detail: the destruction of peacefully inclined towards the “Adrestia” triremes – in particular the Athenian and Spartan ones – will increase your “wanted” level. So either bribe customers in a timely manner, or often look around in search of bounty hunters.
As for the battles with ships themselves, it is easiest to start a battle with a powerful ram, due to the enemy captains’ ignorance of your intentions. And, in order not to drag out the mission, it is better to break the immobilized ships in half (just accelerate and crash into them properly) than to get involved in the boarding process.
After sinking two triremes of each of the indicated factions, return to Xenia’s assistant for a reward.Unlike Obelia, the manager will turn out to be an honest fellow and, in addition to experience, money and a rare dagger, will give you a Keos theme for Adrestia.
Quest: Disappeared Paint
Where issued: Keos. Issuer: civilians. Reward: experience points, money, ocher, rare leggings. Walking along the docks of Koressia, you can overhear a conversation between two pirates discussing how one of the local captains sunk his own ship, to the eyeballs stuffed with precious ocher. The hero will volunteer to retrieve the lost cargo – even if the sailors do not tell the protagonist in the conversation, you will still receive the quest.
Board the Adrestia and travel south to the island of Lestris, where Captain Gotharzes’ ship sank. After disembarking near the wreckage of the ship, pay attention to the side quest icon nearby – we will return to it later – and open the first chest with ocher. The other five will have to be found underwater.
Jump into the sea and dive to the depths, to the location called “Executioner’s Cave”. Sharks swim nearby, however, if you follow from box to box, the fish will not touch you.The first underwater chest is located on the cliff in front of the sunken ships, don’t miss it.
Look for the second chest between the two parts of the broken trireme, the third in the wreck on the south side, the fourth in the crevice under the ship, and the fifth a little further along the depression to the northwest. It is necessary to collect ocher relatively quickly, since the hero’s supply of oxygen is by no means infinite.
Once the contents of the sixth chest are in your pocket, the mission will come to an end. Upon returning to Koressia or any other ancient Greek town with a blacksmith on the territory, each of the collected ocher units can be sold for 2500 drachmas apiece.
Assignment: “He who found – takes for himself”
Issued by: Lestris. Issued by: Captain Gotarzes. Reward: experience points, money, a rare chestpiece. Having emerged from the executioner’s cave at the end of the Disappeared Paint mission, do not be too lazy to climb to the islet of Lestris, where an annoyed team of pirates is preparing to tear to pieces their unlucky captain for a mistake, due to which two previously completely working ships went to the bottom at once.
Intervene in the showdown and offer your help to the hapless Gotarzes.Desperate pirates will not abandon their venture without a fight, so the rebels will have to be killed. There are only four of them, but each one knows how to cover his blade with poison, so dodge, parry and use the “Second Wind” skill.
When the battle is over, talk to Gotarzes and take him aboard the Adrestia. All that remains is to bring the ship to the port of Koressia safe and sound. On land, the captain will be met by his sister and part-time leader of the local pirates – Xenia. For his efforts, in addition to thousands of experience points and money, the hero will receive the epic chestpiece of Gotharzes. Even if you try to refuse the reward due to the rescue of Xenia’s brother.
Assignment: “How to Make Friends”
Issued by: Serifos. Issuer: Chloe. Reward: experience points, money, a rare helmet. In the midst of a bright orange massif on the island of Serifos, south of Keos, a little girl is playing with clay. When asked what she does in the mud, Chloe (this is the name of the child) will answer that she is making something for her friends. There is no one nearby, but the hero will still agree to find “some diago-values” for the baby.
These are the “shining stones” from the mines and the pearls from the lagoon. Both “deposits” are nearby, but let’s start with the closest one. Move north until you find a location called Polydect’s Lagoon. Standing on the rock, get rid of the shark floating under the water column, and only then dive.
It is worth doing this if only because you cannot interact with quest items during a fight, and returning to Chloe without pearls is not an option. The first jewel lies before the descent into the underwater cave, the second is inside next to a cluster of glowing jellyfish.
After collecting both pearls, do not return to the surface in the usual way – there will not be enough oxygen – but swim forward to emerge outside the lagoon. The entrance to the abandoned mines is right within the village, west of the Temple of Athena, with a sync point at the top.
Going inside, take out the torch – by the light it will be much easier to see the snakes hiding in the shadows.Reptiles die with a single bow shot, throw, or torch aimed. The “Illumination” skill from the “Hunter” branch will also help to notice enemies from afar.
In total, in the mines you need to find three baskets with stones, each of which will have one shiny one. Having reached a spacious room with several “corridors” leading from it, move north – on the way to the exit, Alexios / Kassandra will meet the required number of “diago-values”.
After you get out of the darkness, move towards the quest sign.Chloe will be waiting for you on the cliff above Polydect’s lagoon along with her “friends” – two pieces of clay. It turns out that the girl’s mother sailed away with a bunch of pirates, but returned with a mortal wound and, before her death, advised her daughter to make friends.
Chloe could not boast of social skills, and therefore made comrades from what was. If you play along with the girl, Theo and Earl (that is the name of the clay “little men”) will become a little more beautiful thanks to the jewels you have obtained, but Chloe will remain alone.
An alternative option is to tell the child the truth in person: friends are never made of clay, you need to go out and socialize. The girl will accuse the hero of misunderstanding and drive him away. Check out the cliff in a couple of days to see Chloe playing with the other kids. True, she won’t talk to you anymore. Here it is, children’s gratitude.
Quest: Heart of Stone
Issued by: Serifos. Issued by: Kalliklea. Reward: experience points, money, a rare staff. An unusually large crowd of women had gathered at the entrance to the Cyclops’ Lodge, a cave southwest of the village of Poyessa. The thing is that the local wealthy Etius is going to choose a wife for himself, and Kalliklea hopes that it is her. The girl wants to stand out from the rest of the applicants, and a witch will come to her aid in this.
The sorceress will propose to create a love potion, after drinking which Calliclea will become irresistible. The broth should be unique for each client, and therefore the witch will ask the mystery to run for two important ingredients – several specific mushrooms and selected wine. Let’s go in order.
A cargo of wild mushrooms has recently arrived at the warehouse on the south side of the island.Your target is on the second floor of the building, right next to an unlocked balcony that you can jump onto from a nearby cliff. Once inside, go around the basket with vegetables on your right hand, pick up the coveted bag from the floor and quietly leave.
The situation with wine is more complicated – a few days ago a ship carrying a consignment of an exquisite drink crashed off the coast of Serifos, and pirates took away the surviving jugs. Fortunately, they did not go far – an impromptu warehouse of alcoholic beverages is located in a small rocky niche right next to the wreckage of the said vessel.
In principle, the wine has not so many “guards” – only five – but among them there are archers (the most disgusting type of enemies), from whom it is better to get rid of in advance and preferably secretly. There is no grass nearby, so the only quiet option is an aimed and, if possible, “crushing” headshot.
After clearing the beach of pirates, grab the coveted jug and return to the two ladies. The witch is missing one more ingredient for the potion – you can try to disown one more journey, but this time all that is required is a lock of hair. And even then not from you, but Kalliklea.
The ceremony (!) Of choosing Etiya’s wife will take place the next night, so if you don’t want to wander around all day long, just pass the time by holding down the button that calls the game card for a long time. Go down to the mansion of the rich man – it is located in the immediate vicinity of the sea.
Once at the party, find Callicles. Not a trace remained of her formerly luxurious hair – the witch’s broth tried. When the culprit of the girl’s misfortune enters the conversation, it turns out that she is not a sorceress, but the real rival of Calliclea in the struggle for the heart of Etia.
According to the “witch” – by the way, she was chosen by the richer as his wife – she grew up with Etiya and, unlike her rival, has real feelings for him. Well, baldness has become a side effect of the “love potion”. The “sorceress” was counting only on a rash all over her face. In this whole drama of Alexios / Kassandra, only one thing is interesting – whether there will be the promised reward. Technically, Kalliklea is the employer of the mystery, but she has no money. There are several options:
- “I will kill you, witch” – the hero rushes to the offender, but at the same time the whole palace is against him.
- “Security, she’s a witch!” – the hero accuses the offender of witchcraft, and the guards kill her themselves.
- “The witch is right about something” – the hero recognizes the offender’s victory and leaves with nothing. But nobody died.
In the first two cases, to complete the quest, you must kill the “witch” or wait for her death at the hands of the soldiers, in the latter the mission will end with the conversation. Regardless of the decision made, you will receive your reward – experience, money and a rare staff.
Part – 6: “Argolis” (All missions)
In the first two cases, to complete the quest, you must kill the “witch” or wait for her death at the hands of the soldiers, in the latter the mission will end with the conversation. Regardless of the decision made, you will receive your reward – experience, money and a rare staff. A detailed instruction on helping the priests of Asclepius and killing Chrysis in the country of healing. Within the framework of this material, we will analyze the secondary tasks that can be found on the territory of the Argolis region in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.Quests are listed in the order they appear.
Quest: “Everything Has a Limit”
Issued by: Priest Pilenor. Reward: experience points. The first priest, whom you will surely meet at the entrance to the territory of the sanctuary of Asclepius, stands near the baths and laments about the snakes that have filled the institution. O Mirrin Pilenoru (that is the name of the minister) it is forbidden to communicate with the mercenaries, but if the magnanimous mystery deigns to help, then he will surely find out something useful.
The problem is that snakes love warmth, which is just in bulk in the baths, and it is impossible to kill reptiles Alexios / Kassandra – in this case someone named Doreyos will be very upset. The priest will propose to overtake cold water into the building using an underground pipe.
Proceed to the quest sign and look under your feet – the pipe will stick out of the ground between dense thickets. Filling the bath with cold water and at the same time getting rid of the snakes by interacting with the object, return to Pilenor for … nothing. He will not give you anything and will not tell you.
Quest: Carved in Stone
Issued by: priest Timoxenus. Reward: experience points. Not far from Pilenor, near the guest house, a priest named Timoxenus is working over the records of the visitors to the sanctuary of Asclepius and their illnesses carved in stone.Peacefully or aggressively convince him to tell you about Myrrine. Here he does not want to do this – they may notice – so he will offer to take a walk.
Follow Timoxenus until the heroes stop at the third “tombstone”, which contains information about Mirrin and her child. The priest will notice that someone is walking and will quickly instruct the protagonist to meet him at the nearby Hercules olive tree.
The name of the uninvited guest is Pleistos, and he is clearly not delighted that one of the priests communicates with the “master of the eagle” – the one with whom Chrysis strictly forbade talking.Your next answer depends not only on the outcome of the quest, but also on the fate of Timoxenus.
The replica said by the hero should convince Playtos of the innocence of a conversation with an elderly priest. Both an outright lie (the option “I wanted to know how to get to the baths”), or something more sophisticated, like an excuse about healing sword wounds with the help of dogs, will do.
At the end of the conversation, follow the said olive tree. If your lies have had the desired effect, Timoksen will be alive and will tell you a little about that fateful night with the participation of Mirrin and her crippled child.Otherwise, the priest will lie dead.
Regardless of the fate of Timoxena, the hero decides to watch for Pleytos with two large soldiers. At the end of the cutscene, the quest will come to an end, so if you wish, you don’t even have to fight the attackers – the elderly minister will run away on his own.
Quest: “Death will overtake everyone”
Issued by: civilian. Reward: experience points. If during the mission “Ashes to Ashes” you decided to save the child, and not to chase after Chrysis, then at the end of the corresponding plot chapter on the road between Argos and the sanctuary of Asclepius you will be able to meet a woman praying on her knees. Her husband was attacked by bandits in the forest, and she asks for help.
Arriving at the clearing marked by the quest indicator, you will indeed find a dead person, but the task will not end there. From behind the boulder, Chrysis will come out, who deliberately lured the naive hero into a trap in order to deal with him. Two armored cultists will assist in this priestess of Hera.
In battle, focus on the soldiers – they are the most dangerous and tenacious. Use the Shield Break skill to rid your opponents of defense, and do not forget to parry enemy attacks or at least dodge them. The “Second Wind” skill will not be superfluous either.
Chrysis, at the same time, will “drive away” after a few strokes of the blade – she is still an ordinary woman. Promise the priestess to destroy the Cult or find her own family – after that the hero will cut the sectarian’s throat, which will end this side quest.
Part – 7: “Corinthia” (All missions)
Detailed instructions for the delivery of Cleo to the island of Mykonos and assistance to Alcibiades in the delivery of an important parcel.Within the framework of this material, we will analyze the secondary tasks that can be found on the territory of the Corinthia region in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Quests are listed in the order they appear.
Task: “Escort Service”
Issuer: Clio. Reward: experience points, money, rare boots. In the course of the “Follow the ship” story mission, the game will confront you with Cleo, a heterosexual who decided to hire pirates to escape from Corinthia. To get this side task, you need to agree to the girl’s offer to take her to the island of Mykonos.
If you have already visited the pirate islands as part of the Pirate Hospitality chapter, now you can simply teleport to the synchronization point on Keos, go down to the harbor and “call” your ship – Cleo will be on board. This will significantly shorten and facilitate the journey to your destination.
Despite the apparent difficulty – this task can be up to two levels higher than yours – the quest will be easier than easy, since for successful completion you just need to arrive at the port of Mykonos, you will not have to fight with anyone.Upon reaching the goal, Clea will thank the hero and say goodbye to him.
Quest: Handle With Care
Issuer: Alcibiades. Reward: experience points, money, a rare ax. On the outskirts of the temple of Aphrodite on Acrocorinth, Alcibiades, familiar to you from the plot mission “Symposium of Pericles”, is waiting for the hero. The hero will need to deliver a package of unknown content to a soldier named Varna and say that it is from a certain Diodorus.
Walk towards the target until you reach a large gate. They are not going to let you inside, and the addressee is just behind the fortress wall. Similar to the situation with Dimas from the chapter “Recipe for Discovery”, the hero will not be allowed to see Varna if someone is looking for him, which leaves only two options: to kill everyone or to act secretly.
Everything is clear with the first scenario, so let’s analyze the second. The easiest way to get to the target unnoticed is to go around the fort counterclockwise. Follow the ramparts and cliffs until you reach a relatively open area with a squat building almost at the edge of a cliff.
Just in case, unnoticed (grass to help) get rid of nearby enemies and climb onto the roof of the building. Next, run across the fabric stretched between the houses to the goal and jump into the yard. If you acted quietly enough, then no one will hear the approach of the hero, and it will be possible to enter the building marked by the quest indicator.
Having reached Varna and having learned what was in the package – a cast of a male genital organ with an appeal to the soldier’s wife – you need to decide who it belongs to.The interlocutor will be upset with all three options, but if you take the blame, Varna will have to be killed.
After handing over the package and accusing someone of creating it, return to Alcibiades. You no longer need to be secretive, so you can run out at least through the front door – no one will chase the hero far away. The “customer” is waiting for Alexios / Kassandra inside the temple of Aphrodite, near which you took this task.
If, instead of the desired name, someone else was named to Varna, Alcibiades would be very upset and drive the protagonist away.If you have done everything as requested, you will have the opportunity to speak with your interlocutor in “body language”. However, the decision made will not affect the quest reward.
Part – 8: “The island of Nexos and Paros” (All tasks)
Detailed instructions for calculating the artist-bully in the second homeland of the mother of the protagonist of the “Odyssey” from Ubisoft. Within the framework of this material, we will analyze the secondary tasks that can be found in the region of Naxos and Paros in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. There is exactly one quest here, so there is no need to talk about any order or degree of importance.
Quest: Writing on the Wall
Issued from: Naxos. Issued by: Agelos. Reward: experience points, money, a rare bow Near the harbor of the town of Naxos on the island of the same name, an incident – someone disfigures local buildings with provocative drawings that undermine the authority of Phoenix (she is Mirrin, the mother of the protagonist). A street vendor named Agelos asks the protagonist to deal with the bully.
To calculate the location of the perpetrator, you need to analyze three graffiti: the first is directly opposite Agellos, the second is on the left side of the same building, and the third is in a small gallery on the opposite side of the street. Next, ask the merchant about everything – he will tell you where to look for the artist.
A modest regime fighter hides near Rutsuna Falls, directly east of Naxos. Having reached the place, use Icarus to find the entrance to the cave and make your way inside the nearby trees and ledges.Turn left at an inconspicuous fork, otherwise you will meet an aggressive bear.
Having squeezed through the narrow passage, proceed to the workshop of Likhas – that is the name of the local graffiti master – and talk to him yourself. From the conversation it will become clear that he draws and writes all sorts of nasty things not of his own free will, but on the orders of the archon. There would be a story about a corrupt government to unfold, but no: the quest chain will end there.

Squigs are widely known among gamers and miniatures in the form of fighting squigs – predatory “animals” consisting of legs, head and teeth, which a shepherd (usually a gretchin) sets on an enemy… But there are a great many varieties of Squigs, because they are the basis of the orc biocenosis and their diversity deserves a separate story.
Squigs are the first and lowest link in the orc ecosystem. When sprouting orc mycelium on a planet infested with orcs, they appear before anyone else, even before the snotlings. And they fill the entire surrounding area.
War Squigs are a beast whose main purpose is to go into battle.
They are poorly and poorly fed (you yourself understand for what purposes), before the battle – they are teased and then they simply direct their aggression towards the enemy.Of course, an evil squig can devour an unwary shepherd-gretchin and chop off an orc’s leg … Therefore, cavalry in the form of gretchin riders on squigs is not very common and not very numerous due to natural riders killed:
They may look differently, but the general concept is the same: legs, teeth (as well as claws, thorns, etc.), eyes filled with hatred and malice.
Less often skigs are specially trained, they hang explosives on them and let them onto armored vehicles. In short, War Squigs are an extremely formidable adversary in combat, concentrated hatred and anger.
War Squigs are sometimes grown to gigantic proportions and then in battle they are used in the manner of war elephants: they hang platforms on their backs, put the infantry and let them trample the enemy into battle … They have a special name: “Squiggoth”.
This is how Squigs are used in war. But their application is not limited to this.
Squigs for a peaceful life are much more diverse.First, Squigs are eaten by all other Orcoids.
All skigs are edible for orcoids, but there are squigs that a) taste better and b) are no longer applicable in everyday life, except as food – they are called “ edible squigs “. They usually look completely harmless and defenseless:
Squigs live in “skidnyaks”: orc garbage pits. To get “food”, gretchins have to climb into these discounts and risk getting caught by more predatory squigs. Therefore, the deeper into the trash heap, the less often the gretchins get there and the longer an edible squig can live there. And at the very bottom there are squigs, which grow larger and, if you want, “are saturated with juices” to a greater extent, that is, becoming “tastier” from the point of view of the orcs. These edible squigs are called “ Delicious “. This type of Squig is prepared only by the most experienced Gretchins and is offered only to the Nobam-gourmets who appreciate the pleasant aspects of Orc Culture.
“ Squigs – Parasite Hunters ” are tiny but voracious hawkers used by Orcs to rid their bodies and clothing of parasites. The orc simply shoots a handful of these squigs into their clothes and leaves them crawling there.
Squigs hunt lice, ticks and leeches, which the Orc picks up during its not-so-tidy life.
When a parasite-eaten squig becomes more fleshy and less agile, falling out of clothes – the orc simply picks it up and puts it in his mouth. Because all squigs can be edible;)
“ Marsupial Squigs ” are squigs consisting of a huge mouth and a giant stomach. The mouth is practically devoid of teeth, and the stomach is huge and adapted for the slow digestion of food that has got into it. Orcs use these animals during life instead of sacks, bags, wallets … – that is, for storing indigestible things. And after death, the marsupial squig can be used as a flask (if the squig is dry) or for storing food.
“ Hair Squigs “. The hairy squig’s head and body (which are essentially a single unit in any squig) are small and consist mainly of tiny claws and a mouth full of needle-like teeth. The tail is a long hair tassel, often of very impressive coloration. These squigs are hunted in great numbers to provide the naturally hairless orcs with the material to create hair and mohawks. Servant gretchins place a squig on the bald head of an orc, and the squig attaches itself to it, clinging to the skin with its teeth and claws. Thus, he can survive indefinitely, feeding on the brains of the blood of an orc. One squig is a small tuft of hair, and hundreds of squigs are required to cover the entire scalp. The variety of shapes and colors of hair squigs, as well as the ability to color and cut them, gives orcs a wide variety of different hairstyles to define clan affiliation or express orc personality.
“ darning squigs ” – a subspecies of hairy squigs, which have found application in orc medicine.
Orc medics (Payneboys) simply apply a squig to an open wound and it grabs into it with its tiny needle-like teeth, pulling the edges of the wound together.Paynboy then unscrews the tail of the squig, leaving the head clinging to the flesh, and repeats the process until the wound is “sealed”.
In another embodiment, only one squig is used, the tail of which is threaded through the needle to suture the wounds. The hair squig feeds on the blood protruding from the wound, thus cleansing it and protecting it from infection. If necessary, the squig can hold out for several years. By the time it shrinks and falls off, the wound is already healed and leaves a scar with holes around the edges: darned wounds are highly prized by orcs as battle scars and decorative ornaments.
Another “medical” type of squigs – squig-syringes :
Squigy syringes have a long and sharp proboscis, with the help of which they inject poison into the victim. The poison is not fatal to orcs, but powerful enough to knock out a greenskin for three days. The Painboys use syringe squigs as anesthesia, simply by sticking the squig’s proboscis into the wounded orc’s body and squeezing the squig to release venom. Some Painboys extract poison and use it in large brass syringes – in cases where a large dose is needed: for Nob or Var Boss.Squig syringes are subdivided into several sizes depending on the dose of the poison (basic sizes: “ma’inky”, “ba’shoy” and “aybalit”). The largest squigy syringes, with a thick proboscis about half a meter in length, are especially prized by the Pirate Painboys, also known as the “Evil Docks”, who are notorious for using the largest “aibalits” they can find.
Also Maddocks use vampire Squig . Blood-sucking vampire squigs with long, sharp fangs are used by the Painboys as an analogue of leeches for therapeutic bloodletting to a patient and for sucking tainted blood and pus from infected wounds.Such a squig does not care about the quality of blood, especially if it is supplied continuously and in large quantities. In difficult times (when there are no major battles around), the Painboys are forced to look for other ways to keep their pets alive, for example, extolling the benefits of regular bloodletting to healthy orcs in all respects …
Face Squigs – Also known as “ Clickers ” (named for their ability to loudly click their mouth), these Squigs are a vicious bundle of sharp teeth and claws. In an active state, a squig looks like one clacking mouth without a body, while at rest it looks like other edible squigs. The most common and most ferocious type of lycee squig has a powerful tail, which it uses as an anchor, clinging to the edge of the skid. The tail is coiled tightly in the manner of a spring while the creature waits, hiding under a dark surface or hiding in fungal growth on the slope of the pit. When a shadow falls on the squig, he jumps out of cover, grabbing a piece of the orc’s ass, or biting off a gretchin’s hand, or swallowing the hapless snotling at once.Obviously, this type of squig makes the trip to the skid a little dangerous.
Lyceum Squigs are used in the national orc game “ eat squig “. The main objective of this competition is to try to eat the “clicker” before he has the opportunity to bite off the face of the competitor. Orcs, reckless enough to take pleasure in this sport, grab the lycee squig by the tail and hold it over their face. Then the competition begins – the mouth of a squig against the mouth of an orc: who will eat whom first.Orc and Gretchin spectators scream in delight (from a safe distance) as they watch the Orc and Nutcracker bite into each other with furious delight, teeth clicking and drooling. Occasionally, the orc rolls over onto his back with a squig deeply gnawed into his face. In other cases, the orc manages to drive its huge fangs into the squig and manage to swallow it before the squig can do serious damage. The “Eat a Squig” competition replaces horse racing and serves as an occasion for betting.
Favorite Squigs .The most nimble squigs are often kept as a pet or a talisman. Squig pets are as tall as a small dog, shaggy and rather vicious. The pet squig is allowed to ride near the owner, who has practically no control over him. Which gives the wearer endless amusement – especially when the squig bites on the ankles of other orcs.
Favorite Squigs are more popular with Nobs and eccentric Oddboys. The owners do not like them souls, the gretchins are fed with tidbits, and the snotlings, fleeing from the squigs, are an excellent workout.
A variety of Squigs known as “ Mimics ” are very popular: they are able to copy Orcish speech and the Orcs teach them the most obscene expressions. Mimics have a beak-like proboscis and outwardly slightly resemble a parrot. They can often be seen sitting on the shoulder of some old and wrinkled orc, spewing abuse and insults at passers-by.
Ground beetle squigs have tiny, lobe-like wings on their tail that form a small propeller that allows the squig to fly, buzzing like an insect.
These little Squigs eat everything except orc meat. That is, they fiercely devour any flesh except “green”. When a ground beetle squig gets to some animal, it sticks into it and eats it through. Jumping out from the opposite side, the squig immediately turns around and stabs again or pounces on the next victim. Orcs have learned to use these deadly bastards as weapons: Gretchins specifically catch them in order to later release whole clouds of ground beetles on the battlefield.Ground beetles are also packed in pots and launched at the enemy from improvised throwing devices: when the pot breaks, a swirling deadly cloud escapes from there and attacks the enemy.
Mouth Squig is small enough to fit in an orc’s mouth and stay there all day (or a few days if the orc forgets about it). The squig cleans the orc’s mouth by picking out and eating bits of food stuck between the teeth.
Another variant of this type of squig – “squig-zhavachek” (c).The orc throws such a squig into his mouth and chews it when he is “thinking” (and more often he enjoys not thinking).
Bagpipe Squig : This special type of Squig is used by the Orcs as a musical instrument. Several tubular proboscis protrude from the pouch-like body of the squig. The musical squig is taken in the hand and inflated through the proboscis. If you then squeeze the squig, you can extract eerie and frightening sounds from its proboscis tubes. The musical squig is somewhat reminiscent of a bagpipe, only a thousand times more cacophonic and more terrible in sound. But – loud! =))))
Drawing Squigs . Everything is simple here: these are living tubes of paint, which actually produce the paint. And they “allocate”. The harder you squeeze, the more paint will “stand out”. Many have brushes on their tails, which makes drawing easier. These squigs are used in all spheres of life from applying ritual war paint on the body of a warrior to painting equipment, buildings and flags.
Meat-Eater Squigs . Meat eaters have a large, wide mouth, similar to a crocodile. The mouth is filled with rows of sharp fangs, much like orc teeth, used in place of currency. Which decides the fate of the meat-eater: these Squigs are constantly losing and growing their teeth again, and all that the orc has to do is send the gretchin to collect the teeth that have fallen out. Or – knock the missing amount out of the mouth of a meat-eater squig. This is not to say that gretchins are strongly attracted to such work: in an attempt to knock out a meat-eater’s tooth, a sluggish gretchin can simply be devoured by this living bank account.
Like orc teeth, carnivore teeth decay over the course of several years. The lifespan of a meat-eater is incredibly long, but this squig does not breed in captivity, which further increases its value. Most orc-possessing meat-eaters are already Nobs, or are quickly becoming, thanks to their wealth. Unsurprisingly, impoverished orcs might try to steal a meat-eater or even attack a rival settlement to take over.

HEART OF MORTARION
Scene 1: Kornovin Plains – Day
On the poisoned plains of Kornovin, a lone warrior confronted all the wicked hordes of Chaos.
He fought hard. He fought with strength and fury, throwing away all conventions and not thinking about anything else. Many kilometers away, the Brotherhoods counterattacked invading demonic armies from the fortified enclaves, but Caldor Draigo fought alone. Thanks to the battle meditations of the Librarian, his movements accelerated, he became like the legendary champion of bygone ages, who cut through the enemy ranks.
They pounced upon him in droves of withered flesh and rotten fangs, broken blades and jagged claws. Draigo threw them down one by one, the sword singing joyfully in his hands.
While fighting, he felt numerous larvae swarming around. The horizon was once again illuminated by the flashes of Imperial cannons, and he saw in the distance the Order’s painted assault ships flying low above the ground. The Horde was trapped between a fresh wave of Terminator and Purifier squads from Grandmaster Kai and an arrogant new Lord of the Gray Knights who was cutting through the rearguard.Draigo decided that this might be enough for the Deathlord to take personal notice of what was happening.
He did not know if it was fate or just a chance, but he realized that the prey was near.
Draigo cut through the crowd and his path was blocked by the surviving champions of the demon prince: born to battle and exhausted by millennia of endless decay, the unforgiving warriors of the Shroud of Death were exceptional opponents. A psychic flurry erupted from Draigo’s plate gloves, ripping apart their rotting flesh and shattering ancient armor. But they continued to approach, unrelenting fury in their eyes.
Draigo fired until the storm bolter ran out of ammo, then slammed left and right with his sword. He cut through the rusty breastplate of one of the warriors and blew off the skull …
There. Behind .
A flash of foresight saved him, he managed to throw himself to the side before the monstrous figure of the Lord of Death fell to the ground on torn wings. With the force of the blow, the crowd of the lesser rabble scattered to the sides, and furrows appeared in the muddy ground from the claws of armored legs.
The Astartes turned to face the new enemy, sword at the ready.
– Stop, demon. Don’t get close. Draigo’s voice rang out through the vox grille of his helmet.
Bent to the ground, the prince of demons slowly straightened, gripping the rusty hilt of the battle scythe. The features of his emaciated face remained in shadow all the time. From the lower half of the hood was a well-worn, well-crafted breathing mask that spewed out puffs of poisonous vapor with every hissing breath. He stared at the Gray Knight in his armor covered in blood and dents. When the Lord of Death spoke, his voice sounded like the crackling of bones.
– You won’t scare me, little witcher. You … is not the same , ”Mortarion said.
The nearby demons cackled indistinctly in a twisted parody of laughter as they approached their master and his prey. The Astartes did not budge.
“I may not be the ‘one’ you speak of, but I will pave the way for him,” Draigo replied.
– Divine prophecy or wishful thinking? Snorted the primarch.
The Deathlord tilted his head as if comparing himself to Draigo.
– You are going to confront me, link me to the mortal plane. Seven times seven. May it be so. Speak your useless rituals and empty words of power.
Draigo squinted behind his visor.
– I call you Mortarion, the fallen primarch of the Fourteenth Legion, Lord of the Death Guard. You are the Dread Liberator of Barbarus. You are the Reaper and the Traveler. Lord of Death and the Pale King. You …
– Titles. Titles and nicknames created by the minds of lesser creatures for honor or slander. Mortarion interrupted the Gray Knight contemptuously. “They only know me from what I have done, or they are afraid of what I might do. Sneakers and slaves, both allies and enemies – how can they hope to bind me with these ridiculous mortal words?
He raised a huge hand in a gauntlet and pointed at Draigo:
– Who are you really?
Scene 2a: Kornovin Plains – Day
A few hours ago it seemed that the Apocalypse from ancient legends was finally approaching. After months of famine and epidemics that struck the human population of the once flourishing planet and turned them against each other, when the crying survivors prayed for merciful liberation through death, war broke out. Such horrors poured into the material world that challenged the very minds of mortals, and the dead rose from the earth, wandering around it again under swarms of buzzing, swollen, disgusting flies.
Draigo did not know if it was all part of the Death Lord’s grand plan from the very beginning, or if he simply seized an opportunity in this distant corner of the Imperium. All that Draigo knew was that it had gone beyond the Diabolus Conclave — it was no mere demon seeking to expand his influence or curry favor with his patron god.
Mortarion himself appeared on Kornovin at the head of a huge plague horde. People like him rarely leave the Eye.
The once noble primarch, son of the Emperor of Humanity, towered over the battlefield above his unholy minions and moved forward with grim determination. Each mighty sweep of the rusty battle scythe blade sliced through the armor, flesh, and bones of his foes with an almost hideous ease.
The demonic horde marched on the capital, and most of the planet’s mortal defenders had long since fallen like cut grass under its onslaught. Only the brave Gray Knights Space Marines stood against the demons. They were willing to sacrifice everything for this ultimate victory. All Draigo’s warrior instincts called for leaving the southern cordon and ordering his warriors to attack the demonic primarch’s elite cohorts or even redeploy his squads and support units several kilometers closer …
But he did not do that.He believed in the design of the supreme grandmaster.
Draigo turned surprisingly easily for a man in heavy Terminator armor and slashed another rotting demonic zombie with his blade. Guardian paladins fought shoulder to shoulder, keeping the monsters at bay. It was a matter of honor for them to defend the Grandmaster of the Sixth Brotherhood of the Gray Knights, and yet he could not help feeling that they were getting in his way when the fight became particularly tight.
No Gray Knight who has ever lived, no worthy hero of the Order of Demon Hunters has ever fought better than Caldor Draigo – why now he has to fight surrounded by bodyguards? Why is he forced to expand his psychic fighting abilities to his people, looking for gaps in their defenses, so that in the split second between parrying and retaliating, he can attack himself?
There.Right . Without hesitation, he fired twice.
Bolts flew close to Brother Aleph, only a few millimeters from the armored visor, and blew off the head of a plague creature, which he intended to finish off himself. As the body fell into the mud, the paladin looked at Draigo. For a moment, confusion seemed to appear on his faceless faceplate. Drygo nodded and turned away, smiling.
– You’re welcome, brother. It seems that sometimes I have to protect my own bodyguard.
He heard Torv laughing behind him. The Librarian was usually somber, and his laugh was in stark contrast to the furious warp lightning he unleashed from his fingertips, plundering demonic spawn.
– Are you still hungry for your share of the glory, lord? Do I really feel overwhelming pride in you today? – he asked.
Draigo did not answer, but instead lunged forward, spinning the Nemesis’s power halberd. Before the paladins could follow to cover for their grandmaster, he cut three creatures in half with a silent scream, spilling their unholy entrails and foul blood into the mud.The Gray Knight slammed the end of the metal handle of the halberd into the ground.
90,000 VOICES OF THE BURNED. Barbarians against Rome
VOICE OF THE FUNERED
In the central part of present-day France there was once the city of Alesia. It was here that the French Celts, Gauls, under the command of the charismatic leader Vercingetorix (whose eternal memorial will remain his reincarnation in the image of the hero of French comics) gave the last battle to the legions of Julius Caesar. There is another monument to Vercingetorix – a huge statue of a Gallic hero, pensively looking over his city … True, the city he is looking at is not Gallic – it is Roman, with a theater, temples and a basilica. The city that Vercingetorix knew is not, it was razed to the ground.
Located a few miles from the site, the archaeological museum celebrates the famous siege that led to the defeat of Vercingetorix. The main exhibit of the museum is a reconstruction of the siege work of the army of Julius Caesar. Everywhere you look, the history of the Celts is buried under the heavy stones of Roman history.
The Romans left their traces throughout Europe. The ruins of aqueducts, amphitheaters, walls and roads remain a testament to their presence. It is much more difficult to see traces of the peoples who inhabited these places before the arrival of the Romans, and it is too easy to assume that they were underdeveloped and could not resist historical progress and the mighty Roman civilization.
Their extermination was part of a well-thought-out policy. The Romans learned the lesson that the Celts of Brenna had taught them in 390 BC. e .: “Woe to the vanquished!” The strong is always right, and military power is the only international law. The Romans were not faced with the question of whether to destroy what stood in their way.
Another part of politics was domestication: the Roman world was so massive that its gravity pulled the satellite cultures into its orbit. The wealthy and influential in the barbarian world saw the financial and political benefits of Roman support and began to adopt Roman customs and architectural style, demonstrating their trustworthiness. Those who were not rich also sought to join the powers that be. As a result, those who opposed the rule of Rome and tried to protect traditional values were forced to fight with two enemies – external and internal.Parallels with the modern world are not hard to find.
As a result – a complete collapse of culture, as a result of which it is so difficult to find traces of the true ancestors of modern Europeans – the ancient Celts. Their place in history was usurped by the Roman Empire, and it is only recently that evidence of a Celtic civilization has begun to emerge. Evidence that no one expected.
ROOTS OF CELTES
Not all Celts recognized themselves as Celts, most considered themselves barbarians. Yet Julius Caesar reports that the inhabitants of central France call themselves Celts. But we now use this name for many more peoples than those who called themselves Celts in the time of Julius Caesar.
Indeed, recently historians have begun, not without reason, to treat this word with suspicion [10]. The term Celtic, as it is understood today, was coined in 1707 when a Welsh antiquarian and naturalist named Edward Lewid used it to identify Irish, Welsh, Cornish, and Breton as a distinct language group.
Before that, none of the inhabitants of the British Isles thought to call themselves a Celtic. But that doesn’t mean Lewid was wrong. In the vast expanses of Europe, there was a clearly defined single culture, and even if the peoples who shared this culture did not even suspect at that time, it seems reasonable to join them to a certain group (now recognized), as is done with the peoples of the Stone Age, who undoubtedly viewed themselves as modern people.
But before moving on, we need to get rid of that stereotyped worldview, according to which the warm center of the Universe is located in the sunny Mediterranean, and places like the Orkney Islands should be viewed as the end of the Earth – a distant and inhospitable hinterland on the verge of knowledge … Perhaps the Romans perceived it this way, but the world of the Celts – the world as the Celts themselves saw it, was not necessarily that way [11].
In ancient times, people were connected mainly by waterways.Sea routes and rivers were natural routes of travel, especially when heavy goods were transported.
One of these communication networks was formed in the Mediterranean Sea, the same happened on the Atlantic coast of Europe. The settlements on the shores of the Atlantic were not isolated villages scattered across the vast outskirts of the civilized world, but rather a network of interconnected communities.
This network has a very long history. As early as the fourth millennium BC, polished stone axes made of diorite (magma that solidified on the earth’s surface) were mass-produced in central Brittany and distributed from there throughout the world.Radiocarbon dating has shown that the megalithic monuments in the Atlantic coastal regions are not associated with Mediterranean influences. It seems that there have been closely related belief systems based on the concepts of Space and Death since time immemorial, and that Portugal, southern Brittany, Ireland and the Orkney Islands were cultural centers whose art and architecture were similar.
It was previously believed that the reason for this similarity was the massive migrations of peoples and that the Celtic culture was introduced by tribes invading from Central Europe.More recently, however, archaeologists have suggested that cultural influence was spread through short sea voyages and river communications that linked scattered and possibly very different communities into a network of commerce and communication.
In prehistoric times, the Atlantic coast showed “a stunning interconnection of cultures” [12]. Neck jewelry made from gold mined in Ireland is found in Cornwall, Normandy and Brittany. Neck rings from southern Iberia are found in Brittany, Northern Britain and Northern Ireland.Fortunately for archaeologists, these peoples followed a rather strange custom: they strove to throw a lot of valuable things into swamps and lakes, or bury them in the ground. Whatever the reasons for this blatant waste, it gave us some insight into their world. With the transition to the Iron Age, the commonality of the cultures of the Atlantic coast becomes even more evident through the custom of sacrificing swords, shields and spears, which indicates a common value system. Sometimes the weapon has a similar design.
So, the culture and languages that we now call Celtic may not have been brought to Western Europe by newcomers from the East, but could have originated here, on the Atlantic coast. In other words, the origin of the Celts may be related to the coastal communications network in the Atlantic.
Rivers have also been important routes of cultural exchange. That is why Celtic affiliation is so strongly expressed in the west of Central Europe, in the regions north of the Alps, where such large rivers as the Danube, Rhine, Rhone, Saone, Seine and Loire flow. We just don’t know the direction of the flows.
But we are sure that from about 440 BC. NS. Celts from the Danubian regions began to cross the Alps and settle in Northern Italy around Lakes Como and Maggiore. They also established a settlement on the site where Milan is now located. And it’s not surprising that we learn more about the Celts when they come into contact with the literate world of classical antiquity.
HOW MUCH CELTS WERE BARBARIANS?
Much of our information about the Iron Age Celts came from the Greeks, not from the Romans [13]. Plato confused them with other barbarians who liked to fight and get drunk to the point of insensibility. Unrelenting drunkenness was a constant theme of all references to the Celts for the next 800 years.Diodorus of Siculus, describing the 1st century. BC e., depicts the Celts as typical “beer barrels”. “Wine bread” is perhaps a more accurate definition. “They were,” says Diodorus, “extremely prone to drinking wine” [14]. They did not dilute it, like the Greeks, with water and drank, “until they collapsed unconscious or fell into madness” [15]. Does it remind you of anything?
Obviously, the Celts were not one of those guys whom a self-respecting Greek would invite to dine: “They looked like wooden idols, with thick hair, with braids resembling a horse’s mane. Some were clean-shaven, but others – especially those in high positions – shaved only their cheeks, leaving a mustache covering their entire mouth, and when they ate or drank, crumbs got stuck on the mustache, like on a sieve ”[16].
Conservative patricians of the classical world were especially shocked by the vulgar dressing style of the Celts: “The Gauls showed … love for jewelry. They wore gold collars and bracelets on their hands and wrists around their necks, and those who held any position had clothes dyed and with gold embroidery ”[17].One can imagine sober Romans in their white togas, looking with disapproval at these tasteless foreign jewelry! These were all clear signs of a serious moral decline, which inevitably had to appear on the battlefield: “Such frivolity made them unbearable when they won, and made them panic when things were going wrong” [18].
On the other hand, it was not so easy to deal with them. Among other things, they were bounty hunters and “returned from battle with the heads of enemies hanging from the neck of a horse, and then nailed these heads to the gate for everyone to see” [19].
And they were big too! The Bretons (distinguished from the Celts by classical writers) were particularly tall. Strabo saw them with his own eyes: “I myself, in Rome, saw ordinary youths who were as much as half a foot taller than the tallest man in the city,” he declares with trepidation, but then hastily adds that there is no need to envy short but handsome Romans these giants, because, despite their height, “they were bow-legged and nowhere in their figure was there a single beautiful line” [20].
The Celts were wildly aggressive and easily succumbed to provocations: “All people of this race … belligerent, hot-tempered and always ready to fight … Anyone can infuriate them, anytime, anywhere and under any pretext …”. It sounds like Celtic bullying was a regular pastime of the Romans. And if you think about it – why not? There were a lot of Celts! “Their strength lies both in the size of their bodies and in their huge number” [21].
Strabo, describing his impressions of the Celts in the 1st century.BC e., demonstrates a clear nervousness that was not in the early commentaries. About 400 years before Strabo, his Greek counterparts did not seem to be afraid of the Celts at all. Gellanic Lesbian, historian of the 5th century BC e., describes them as “observing justice and virtue.” A century later, the historian Ephorus wrote that they have “the same customs as the Greeks” and are friendly to the Greeks.
Everything changed in 279 BC. e., when the Celts from the Lower Danube made a massive attack on Greece. We do not know exactly why the Celts became more aggressive, if it actually happened at all. But, perhaps, their “huge number”, which Strabo speaks of, indicates a rapid population growth, forcing the Celts to look for new lands. Or maybe it was due to cultural changes. There is no doubt that during this period, some Celtic tribes began to practice the cult of the hero warrior. Courage and honor became the main qualities, which gave the Greeks a lot of reasons for admiration.Strabo praised the Celts’ sense of duty: “Their sincerity and simplicity make it easy for them to unite, everyone is outraged at the sight of what he believes to be unfair treatment of a neighbor.” But in the end, this simplicity could lead to the fact that they were able to defeat a higher civilization: “They are simple and not evil. If provoked, they rush into battle in a crowd, openly and without precautions. And thus, they can be easily defeated by those who master the art of strategy ”[22].
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Greeks were sentimental about the Celtic struggle. The image of a dying Gaul inspired the creator of the Greek sculpture, which depicts a muscular youth of heroic appearance with a gold necklace around his neck, gracefully letting out his last breath from the blow of the sword. The Romans made several marble copies of the statue. The Dying Gaul is on display at the Capitol today.
The attitude of both Greeks and Romans towards the Celts may seem patronizing, but why not? After all, the Celts were inferior to them in all respects, they lagged behind in science and crafts, they knew less and were less skilled.Looking at those times through the prism of history, it seems to us that Rome should have easily defeated this brave but backward people.
But this did not happen. Rather, it didn’t happen at all.
MILITARY EQUIPMENT OF THE CELTS
The Celts may not have mastered military strategy in the eyes of the Romans, but their weapons and equipment were no worse than those of the Roman army. Maybe sometime in the past the Celts threw themselves into battle naked, but by the 1st century. BC NS. they became excellent gunsmiths.
When the leader of the Gauls, Vercingetorix in 53 BC. NS. inflicted a defeat on Caesar for the first time in the life of a Roman commander, it would be difficult for an outside observer to recognize by appearance who is who on the battlefield. The guys in Roman helmets weren’t Romans – they were Gauls. The Romans wore bronze hats with lovely ponytails on their heads. They later copied the more robust construction of the Gallic helmets, with distinctive cheek pads.
And the shields of the Celts, again, were better than those of the Romans.“They were human-sized,” wrote Diodorus of Siculus, “and decorated in a special manner. Some of them are skillfully forged with convex bronze figures, which served not only for decoration, but also for protection ”[23]. (Perhaps the first example of offensive adornment?) The Romans immediately adopted Celtic-like shields. They copied other types of Celtic weapons and gave them Celtic names. The Latin word for light spear, lancea, was borrowed from the Spanish Gauls; the Celtic word materis became the Roman word for javelin. The Celts also adopted the word gaesum, meaning a long dart.
When the Romans reached Britain, they discovered another technological achievement there – the chariot. To those brought up on the Ben Hur films, it may seem strange that the war chariots surprised the Romans, but they are. Most of all, Caesar was struck by the skill with which the Britons drove the chariots:
The way they fight with their chariots is this: they all rush across the battlefield, throwing javelins, and usually the horror of the horses and the rumble of the wheels is enough to upset the enemy ranks … In this way they combine the mobility of the cavalry with resilience infantry.Through daily practice and training, they become so proficient that even on a steep slope they are able to steer horses at full gallop, stop and turn them in a matter of moments. They are able to run at the drawbar of the chariot, stand on the yoke and jump back into the chariot quickly like no one else [24].
All this was completely unexpected for the Roman army. Caesar writes further that his people “were confused by this new military technique” and he was forced to retreat from the battlefield.
War chariots were used long ago in the Middle East, but were supplanted by the cavalry. Roman chariots were either heavy, clumsy parade carts, or lightweight racing carriages. The Britons made significant improvements in the design of chariots and, as Caesar notes, they were extremely skillful in their use. Nevertheless, contrary to the obvious facts, horse-drawn chariots remain an important part of the myth of Roman supremacy. In Collins’ Dictionary of the English Language, “chariot” is defined as “a two-wheeled horse-drawn carriage used in Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, etc.d … “About the Britons – not a word. And yet, it was the Celts who were the leaders in the creation of wheeled vehicles.
By the things that are found in burials, one can confidently judge what mattered to people during their lifetime. And sometimes a cart and a huge drinking jug were placed in the rich Celtic graves. They are found, for example, in about the 5th century. BC NS. tomb at Hochsdorf in southwestern Germany. The deceased fits the description given to the Celts by Strabo: he is a large, powerful warrior 6 feet 2 inches tall (about 186 cm.- Approx. translator ), which lies on a huge bronze bed, enclosed by walls covered with fabric. Such a warrior was supposed to be terrifying. Only in the grave, with the exception of the dagger, there is no weapon. There are only a huge cauldron for honey, drinking horns and a wagon that occupies almost half of the tomb [25].
The Romans seem to have taken over wheeled transport from the Greeks. At least such an assumption can be made on the basis of linguistic comparisons. Although the early inhabitants of Italy, the Etruscans, had wheeled transport, but the rims of the wheels were fragile, they were made by connecting individual sections with dowels. The Celts figured out how to make solid rims by bending a heated piece of wood. In Asia, the rims were reinforced, reinforcing iron strips on them, while the Celts’ mastery of the art of iron processing allowed them to fit a solid iron tire onto the wheel, to make the wheel even stronger and more reliable [26].
Even the Latin word for horse, caballus, seems to have come from the Celtic language, eventually evolving into the words for cavalry and cavalier. But what can I say, even if the word “league”, in Latin – leuca, is borrowed from the Celts.
WHO BUILD THE ROADS?
How did it happen that the Romans built roads, but the Celts did not. The answer is simple. It was the Celts who built the roads. We only know about this because their roads have survived where the Romans did not lay their own roads over them. These Celtic wooden roads were laid through the swamps, submerged in which they have survived in the peat bog to this day.
The historical stamp “the Romans were the greatest” hindered, until very recently, the more ancient roads. One of the well-preserved Iron Age roads is located in Corley, Ireland. But until the 80s. XX century it was not clear how ancient she was. The locals called it the “Danish Road” and it was believed that it was built during the Viking period or later. This continued until the tree growth rings were dated. And then the truth was revealed: the trees were cut down in 148 BC. NS.
But the most amazing thing is that wooden roads, built in the same way and at the same time, are found all over Europe, all the way to northern Germany. The Celts seemed to be great at building roads, and the construction of their wooden roads was generally a brilliant engineering feat. Oak planks were laid on birch beams, and the total width of the flooring was sufficient for two carts to move apart. Moreover, some Celtic roads were built earlier than Roman ones. The first Roman road was the Appian Way, built in 312 BC. BC, and the so-called “Upton Track” in South Wales – a wooden road, laid along the flooded tide at the mouth of the Severn, – dates back to the 5th century.BC NS.
But even now we call Roman roads “roads”, and the preserved Celtic roads “paths”. These are not roads at all – so, barbaric ways.
DECEPTIVE TEXTS
One of the main reasons we tend to think of Celts as barbarians and Romans as civilized people is that we have so many written materials in Latin and almost no Celtic sources. Not a single Celtic book, poem, scientific or literary work has come down to us since the Iron Age (by which we mean the period before Roman rule). But this fact leads to incorrect conclusions, because, in essence, there are no Roman texts of that time either. We do not have Latin manuscripts from the era of Caesar: the oldest copy of Caesar’s “Gallic War” is a copy made a millennium later.
The Catholic Church initially made every effort to eradicate paganism. The only surviving bronze statue of the pre-Christian emperor Marcus Aurelius survived only because it was mistakenly thought that it was an image of a Christian. Pope Gregory the Great (540-604 BC)) tried to ban the works of Cicero and is said to have burned all the manuscripts of Livy that he could get to [27]. But the monks in the monasteries diligently copied the writers who deserved their approval. This is why we know Roman authors. However, only fragments of medieval manuscripts have survived, copied in subsequent centuries.
We would know even less if it weren’t for the Irish. It seems that many intellectuals fled from Gaul to Ireland in the 5th century. n. e., during the invasion of the Goths and the Huns, and these people could take their books with them. They arrived in a society that was Christian by that time, but where the church was Celtic, not Roman Catholic. This Irish church was much more relaxed about paganism and was more interested in preserving knowledge than in destroying it. Irish monasteries became centers of book copying, free from religious censorship. Wherever Irish missionaries established new missions (near Genoa in 613, near Constance in 614, at Perona in 650), “they created libraries that contained manuscripts of classical authors” [28].
Therefore, we owe to the Celtic monks to a large extent the saving of the works of Latin authors. And their intellectual roots are deeply rooted in the pagan Celtic world. The Iron Age Celts had a class of professional intellectuals known as the “Druids,” whose power extended throughout society. As religious leaders, Druids could act as intermediaries between armies to conclude a truce. They moved freely between Gaul and Britain (and possibly other parts of the Celtic world).Custodians of literature, historical, medical, scientific and religious knowledge, they studied for 20 years, because they had a lot to learn.
In reality, much of the knowledge was not written down because Celtic literature was passed down orally. The druids insisted on this. Caesar thought that they do this, because “most people tend to think that, in the hope of writing, they give themselves relaxation in the study of things and less burden their memory” [29]. But the Druids knew how to write and write when it came to the affairs of the world. And “in almost all other cases, in their public and private correspondence, they used Greek letters.” Archaeologists have found thousands of Celtic inscriptions from before Julius Caesar’s campaigns. Sometimes the Latin alphabet was used, sometimes the Greek, and sometimes the Celtic, the so-called Ogamic alphabet.
Given the mood of the monks in Ireland, it is not surprising that it is the only place where a vast amount of Celtic literary material has survived. Unlike the Roman Catholic monks, the Irish clergy saw their task in giving themselves entirely to the needs of the local community, and were in no hurry to break away from the surrounding society, even if it did not accept Christian ideas of family morality.Catholic monks shaved the crown, Greco-Roman – a sign of slavery, which symbolized obedience to the charter. Irish monks shaved their hair over their foreheads, as the Druids did, to show that they were the bearers of the old traditions of religious and intellectual power.
This unique breed of monks not only copied the books of pagan Roman authors, but also preserved the memory of the Celts in legal books and epics. Undoubtedly, such materials need to be treated with some caution, and not only because we do not know how important they are for the rest of Europe. But there are such literary collections as The Book of Leinster, written in the 12th century, which contains stories from the life of the pagan Celtic world. Some details of the narrative indicate that the plots are taken directly from those times. For example, they depict warriors traveling to battle in chariots, leaving the battlefield with the heads of slain enemies attached to shafts, and returning home with these terrifying trophies. We believe that this happened in reality, because these same events are described by Greek writers such as Diodorus of Siculus. But Irish monks did not read Greek books. Information came to them from oral traditions that they wrote down.
Illiterate barbarians, you think, should have had primitive laws to the limit, such as: “If you touch my car, I’ll hit you in the face.” But the Irish monks left us books of wonderfully perfect Celtic laws. Unfortunately, they are very little studied.
We know about the legal code of the Irish Celts from a collection of texts known as the Laws of Breon. The Breons, or brithemuin (judges), performed the judicial functions of the Druids after the conversion of Ireland to Christianity. The laws were written no later than the 7th century. n. NS. in a poetic form clearly adapted for the bards.
Roman and Celtic law differed fundamentally, since they served completely different societies. Roman law primarily secures the power of the paterfamilias – the head of the family, the only person who is really taken into account by law, and protects his rights in relation to property and business. “Breon’s laws” consider the duties of clan members on land that is not in individual, but in group ownership, the rules for building a hierarchy, and the duties of the entire community to its members. This code has long been viewed with deep suspicion, since its text was written in verse and dates back to Christian times. Here is a great example of a pro-Roman shift in Western consciousness: the fact is that the Roman code is not much better attested than the Celtic one. We just don’t think about it.
In medieval Europe, Roman law was completely forgotten until, in 1070, a copy of the 6th century codex was found in Italy. Emperor Justinian. Law schools were created on the basis of this document, starting with the University of Bologna, founded in 1088.Graduates of such educational institutions served princes and merchants, so until the middle of the 16th century. Europe was believed to be governed by Roman law. But this Roman law had nothing to do with the laws in force in the Roman Empire. Not only because the text used by medieval scholars differed from the original, but also because it was a late, Byzantine, codex created by the emperor at the time of reforms.
Everything that we know for certain about the Roman law, which ruled over Europe, has come down to us from the book of the II century., written by a certain Guy, and up to the 19th century. almost everything that was known about its content was drawn from a summary of the code of laws of the Visigoth king Alaric II, written in 506. In 1816, in a manuscript of the 6th century. the full text was found, but it was a palimpsest, that is, the ancient text was erased, and the Christian text was written over it. This technique was often used by the medieval church, partly because parchment was expensive, but mainly because it was a good way to fix the pagan past. A deliberate sacred act of destruction.
Fortunately for us, it was executed somehow, so most of the book can still be read. But this gives rather flimsy grounds for the generally accepted opinion that Roman law has survived the centuries unshakably. We have much more reason to say this about Celtic law, but no one pays attention to it. Instead, we continue to believe the Roman (Ancient Greek. – Approx. Translator) historian of the 2nd century. BC NS. Polybius, who said that the Celts did not possess “knowledge in any arts and sciences” [30].
In fact, Polybius did not seem to know much about the Celts. They had arts and crafts, literature and laws. But the most striking thing is how seriously they applied mathematics.
COLOGNY CALENDAR
The willingness to believe in the technological superiority of the Romans, ignoring the achievements of the Celts, is nowhere better manifested than in the strange case of the Coligny calendar. Although this amazing device – undoubted evidence of the deep mathematical knowledge of the Celts – was discovered at the end of the 19th century., it remained in oblivion for most of the next century.
In 1897, a man, digging a field near the town of Coligny in eastern Central France, unearthed 153 bronze fragments covered with Celtic inscriptions relating to the phases of the moon and holidays. When the pieces were assembled into a single whole, archaeologists saw the ancient Celtic calendar, but no one could understand how it “works”. It took almost 100 years to realize what an amazing find this is and how much it changes our understanding of the Celts and their intellectual development.
In 1989 a young American scientist Garrett Olmsted became interested in the calendar. Fortunately, Olmsted was not only a Celtic specialist, but also a mathematician and systems engineer, that is, he had the necessary amount of knowledge to solve the riddle.
Calendars are a tricky thing. Each month should start with a new lunar cycle, but by the end of the year, out of 12 lunar months, there are still about 11 days left. In addition, the number of days in both the month and the year is fractional. Olmsted showed that these barbarians managed to calculate the calendar system so that the beginning of each month coincided with the new moon, but at the same time their holidays did not shift according to the season, that is, it was both the solar and lunar calendar at the same time [31].He came to the conclusion that the system of calculations used was ahead of all others by many centuries.
The mathematical tools used are simply overwhelming, but the belief in the intellectual backwardness of the Celts was so strong that French archaeologists at first refused to publish Olmsted’s work, and he was forced to publish it in Germany. The equation “barbarian = underdeveloped” is one of the factors that prevent us from seeing the significance of many “barbaric” things, and this factor will constantly be present in this book.
You might want to know what happens if you don’t apply the complicated “Celtic” mathematics – compare with the Roman pattern. Their calendar was so hopelessly bad that by the 1st century. BC NS. the discrepancy was about three months. The siege of the army of Vercingetorix in Alesia began on June 25, and according to the Roman calendar it was already September.
There was such trouble with their calendar that after a few years the Romans abandoned the very idea of trying to tie the beginning of the months to the new moons. Julius Caesar commissioned a Greek astronomer to develop a new calendar for Rome. All that was required was to make sure that each date stays in the same place in the season every year. To get the correct starting point, the astronomer had to start with a year of 445 days, which is why this year was named annus confusionis. The Celts would have died of laughter.
But even the new Julian calendar did not fully cope with the task. I had to tinker with it at the end of the 16th century to get a modern calendar, which, according to Olmsted, is no better than the one used by the Celts.
EUROPEAN FORGE
Only now historians are beginning to assess the scientific and technical level of the Celts in a new way. For a long time, the Celts were blacksmiths for all of Europe. The Celtic blacksmith was looked upon as a wizard. Still, he could take a block of stone and transform it into a new magical substance – an ingeniously crafted steel blade that cuts through bronze and ordinary iron. When Saint Patrick was preparing for war with the pagans of Ireland, he composed the prayer “St. Patrick’s Bib”, which contains the following lines:
I appeal to all virtues today:
Stand up against hostile ruthless forces,
… Against the spells of women, blacksmiths and druids,
Against the knowledge of anyone who confuses the soul of a person.
Blacksmiths are on a par with the most powerful sorcerers – women and druids. The science of metalworking was a secret and mysterious art, and the Romans were not as versed in it as the Celts. Neither in terms of weapons, nor in terms of peaceful use.
Knowledge of the Celts in the field of metal processing technologies allowed them to achieve success in agriculture. We know that in Britain already in the IV century. BC NS. there were iron plowshares. In a tomb at Freelford on the Oak River, near Abingdon, Oxfordshire (which was inhabited around 350 BC)BC BC), an iron ploughshare was found under one of the central pillars. It is likely that the temple was one of the first buildings to be built, and the iron ploughshare was donated to the gods at the time of its foundation [32].
Thanks to the use of metals, the Celts even managed to make a grain harvester. The Roman historian Pliny, telling about the events of the 1st century. n. e., provides the only written evidence of this invention: “On vast lands in the Gallic provinces, bulls, driven from behind, pull huge frames with teeth at the edges, mounted on two wheels” [33].The Romans called this machine Gallic vallus. Historians did not believe in the veracity of the story until a bas-relief was discovered on which this ingenious invention was clearly distinguishable. The header was a kind of ridge on wheels that knocked down the ears and collected them in a container that resembled a grass box at a lawn mower. In the 80s of the XX century. a modern copy of the machine was built and tested [34]. Apparently, the reaper disappears without a trace after the 3rd century. n. BC, and until the machine is reinvented in 1831, the grain is harvested with daring sweeps of the scythe.
Simpler Celtic instruments are still used today. The Celts perfected the method of attaching iron points to wooden handles. As a result, the shovels, sickles, pitchforks, axes and scythes used by the Iron Age Celtic peasants are little different from the tools we use today.
The fact that in recent years we have begun to treat the inventions of the Celts with great respect is associated, in particular, with the work on experimental archeology carried out at the “Ancient Farm” in Butser, Hampshire. Here, in practice, methods of work and inventions, which were previously treated with disdain, are tested. As a result, we often have to revise our assessments of the technological experience of the Celts. It turns out that the ancient Celts knew what they were doing.
As the simplest example of such a revision of views on ancient technology, let us consider the way of storage of crops by the Celts. For many years, archaeologists were surprised to find grain and other dried foods buried in pits. It seemed counterintuitive to suggest that food could be kept dry and fresh in the ground. However, when this technique was tested, to everyone’s surprise, it turned out to work. What happens is this: the grains at the walls of the pit, in contact with the moist earth, germinate, absorbing all available oxygen and emitting carbon dioxide. An anaerobic environment is created in which the grain is kept in good condition for some time.
CELTIC CITIES
It is easy to underestimate the technological advancements of the Celts, as many of them have either disappeared or were not understood. The same applies to the way of life of the Celts. Their society was buried under Roman buildings and Roman propaganda. That is why the Romans have “roads”, and the Celts have “paths”, we call Roman settlements “cities”, and the Celtic ones “mountain fortresses,” or we give them the Roman name “oppidum”. Such is the power of PR: Caesar used the word oppidum to refer to a fortified settlement. If he had called Jerusalem that, we would probably have called it the mountain fortress.
But not only Latin hid the urban civilization of the Celts from our eyes.Their cities were simply wiped out by the Roman conquerors. Some were plowed up for farms, while others were replaced by Roman buildings. Roman cities were built on a different principle: they were, first of all, administrative centers and places of tax collection. The main element of the Roman city was two main streets, intersecting at right angles, and its heart was a complex of public buildings that personified the power of the omnipresent Empire. This included temples, basilicas, baths, and often amphitheaters.Since the Celtic cities looked different and were built for different purposes, it took us a long time to admit their existence at all.
The Celtic world was a place of trade and the Celtic cities were trade centers, often closely associated with mining activities. The notion that the Celts lived in primitive huts is wrong. Even far from cities, they often lived in very respectable houses. The house of a Gallic peasant, for example, was often a large rectangular two-story building, inside which there was one large room and many more different rooms.
In Britain, the old tradition of building round houses, introduced by the culture of the Atlantic coast, persisted until the 1st century. BC NS. But such houses could be surprisingly perfect. In the ancient village of Chaizoster at Land’s End in Cornwall, the remains of thatched-roofed stone houses have been unearthed around a courtyard. The houses have stone floors and – lo and behold, miracle! – pipes are laid under the floors. How do you like the barbarians, huh?
Celtic builders were highly respected and had a high professional status. In Ireland, a skilled builder was called Ollamh. This word has survived to this day and in modern Irish means “professor”. The builders were paid well, they received a deposit one year in advance. And these people deserved that kind of money. Celtic builders knew a lot. Perhaps the best demonstration of their professionalism is the crannog, round wooden houses built on an artificial island in the middle of a lake, river or swamp. Boulders were thrown into the water until the embankment rose above the surface of a reservoir or swamp. Then wooden structures were connected with stones so that they formed a foundation. Houses could be up to 50 feet in diameter.
From II century. BC NS. Celtic trade is growing noticeably, and so is the number and size of cities. Some of them get very large. One of the largest is Manching in southern Germany. Manching was the capital of Vindelitzia, and the city was surrounded by walls of cut stone 5 miles long. It was apparently burned by the Romans in 15 BC. NS.
The most impressive of all Celtic cities was also located in southern Germany, between Stuttgart and Ulm.Unfortunately, the excavations at this place were carried out in insufficient volume, and the name of the city is still not known. The fortress walls surround a huge city with suburbs with a total area of more than 6 square meters. miles. For comparison: the Aventine Wall, which surrounded Rome in the 1st century. n. e., closed a four times smaller area.
The Celtic city of Bibrakty, located on a hilltop in Central France, is currently being excavated. Its inhabitants from the 3rd century. BC NS. to the 50th year BC NS. They minted their own coins – first gold, then silver, worth equal to the Roman denarius. We know that the city was important from Caesar’s notes. Still, he decided to stop here during the Gallic War to write an account of this campaign. The manuscript was hastily sent to Rome for public inspection. It was part of Caesar’s publicity campaign to enthrone himself in his hometown. But that’s all we know about Bibrakt. The city disappeared, turning into arable land and forests. Archaeologists are now making discoveries there that add new touches to the picture of Celtic culture – a vibrant, money-savvy society with a strong financial base that trades with all of Europe.
Scientists have already discovered evidence that there was a large city here with a lively main street, on which workshops and shops were located, selling mainly products from iron mined in the nearby mines. Tools, jewelry made from precious stones and enamel were made and sold here. Glass was blown, making beads and bracelets. Coins were minted on the spot to ensure proper exchange of goods. Each shop had its own storage room. The city covered 330 acres and was divided into specific zones. It housed craft and religious centers, and the aristocratic quarter housed very attractive buildings.
Cities, like Bibrakta, stood on trade routes that stretched to Africa and China, but the main trade was with the Roman world. Both Rome and the Gauls only benefited from this state of affairs. Of course, such a business could not rely on fake weights and cries of “Woe to the vanquished!”, Leaving the Celts from Brenna behind.

Sanguinor: Incarnation of the Host
Then we prepared to die like a warrior.
We have counted the days of fierce fighting after seven years of fighting on Skilos, in which many of our strike team fell to the clutches of the Tyranid horde.
We no longer expected reinforcements. Skilos was cut off by strange warp storms that erupted after the landing. A capricious fate not only cut our connection to the Imperium, but also isolated from the hive fleet the enraged xenos that swarmed on the surface and underground of the ravaged world. They stopped the absorption of the population, all flora and fauna and rushed at us – half a company of Blood Angels sent to cover the evacuation of the survivors …
Civilians perished, like many of my battle brothers. For the sake of flesh, the xenos slaughtered and devoured two full brigades of Imperial Guards. The alien bio-conquest tore apart the contingent of the Adeptus Titanicus. The great army was torn to pieces.
Only we, the Adeptus Astartes, remain. Our Thunderhawks were unable to take off, swarms of suicidal midges jammed into their engines and eaten away by the secreted acid. Tanks bogged down in landslides, and the weather went wild after the Tyranids ravaged the planet’s ecosystem. Small groups remained, scattered across the great plain, where aliens had built a nesting network. Our task was to hold on, killing as many xenos as possible.
Hearing claws and fangs creak in the fog, I counted the shells for the second time. There were too few of them for peace of mind, so I sharpened my battle sword. Deep in the bomb crater, we were waiting for the end of the gray rainstorm, a dozen warriors, probably the only survivors of the entire fraternity on the unfortunate world.
Only the scout spoke, Endemore. He quietly whispered the litany, not paying attention to the raindrops falling on his bald head, splashing on the breastplate …
– Blessed be Sanguinius, progenitor and ruler of the Order.May He and the Emperor of Mankind be glorified, may His light guide us and protect us. O mighty Sanguinor, give us strength and fortitude, bind us …
– What did you say? – One look in the eyes of Brother-Sergeant Ganon was enough to realize that he was incredibly old. The scarred face was full of bitterness, the veteran was the hardest warrior I have ever known, all the kindness inherent in common people was knocked out of him. Yes, his courage was undeniable, but his heart went cold. He glared at Endemore, as if the youth had insulted him.- Is this a prayer?
“I called upon the names of the heroes,” the scout replied cautiously. He did not know Ganon as well as I did, and therefore decided that this was some kind of test. – Sanguinor …
– Sanguinor is a myth, lad, – Ganon interrupted him again. – The story that the priests tell gullible neophytes. He is not real, like the Emperor or our lord.
– Do you think you know everything better than me? – the sergeant leaned towards him. “Young scout, I’ve lived five of your lives. I have fought countless wars to the point of total annihilation. And never once did a golden ghost descend from heaven to save me and my relatives. ”He grimaced. – Do you know what I understand?
But Ganon did not give Endemore an answer.
– That the Emperor protects those who protect themselves, and the power of Sanguinius lies in us, and not in a ghost, judging real warriors at a fleeting whim.
“Thinking like that might be heresy,” said Brother Deckel, our lone Apothecary.
– Then tell Lemartes, – Ganon did not honor his brother with a glance.“Or to Lord Dante himself. I only believe in what I see … – he defiantly looked around. “And I don’t see Sanguinor.
– He will come. If not today, not to us, then to others. But he will come.
– Why do you believe this? Ganon barked.
– Why are you not? – I asked the question before realizing that I was speaking out loud.
– Do you share his delusions, Koris? The sergeant looked at me angrily. – You want to sit and pray to the legend, not fight?
Now I got involved in the argument.
– Sanguinor is a noble ideal, he is the best in us. Some believe that he is the ghost of our primarch, freed from mortal bonds and gone to war … The Sanguinary Guardians say that this is Azkaellon, the first of them, who became an eternal warrior in order to avenge the atrocities of the traitor Horus. They also say that it was the soul of a brother who stumbled, seeking redemption …
“And that he comes to the aid of the Bloody Angels in the darkest hour,” Ganon nodded sharply. – Yes, yes, I heard this tale. But I have fought the worst battles, brother.I have seen untold nightmares, but the radiant seraphim never.
