Students live in large dormitories of about 15 students. Each dorm is staffed by a resident care provider who helps with laundry, plans dorm activities, and provides nurturing and guidance.

We offer two boarding programs. In our 5-day boarding program, students stay on campus from Sunday evening through Friday afternoon and return home on the weekends to spend valuable, quality time with family. It should in no way reflect what you can guarantee a child may receive for a test score if he or she gains admittance. However, it is a decent benchmark for average academic performance regarding the 2021 school year.

#1 – St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy

St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy is a private, Christian military prep school. The co-ed institution is renowned for its high performance on college prep tests like the SAT and ACT.

#1 – New Mexico Military Institute

The reported tuition and boarding rate for this past year was $29,000. As is the norm, international students spent more at approximately $38,000 for the year. 1. College Prep or Therapeutic

There are basically two broad categories of Texas boarding schools to choose from: college preparatory (or college prep) and therapeutic.

College Prep: By the very name, this type of boarding school indicates that they prepare students for the rigor of college coursework. They typically expect all their students to take college-level coursework, such as Advanced Placement (AP) and dual enrollment courses, in their junior and senior year of high school. They are normally more selective in the admissions process, possibly requiring testing and interviews before acceptance. Students who attend these schools are not expected to enlist in the military; on the contrary, they are expected to attend college.

Religious: Religious boarding schools normally teach students about a particular religion and encourage them to practice it in their personal lives. These schools are normally staffed with clergy members and faculty with faith-based values. A religious boarding school is best suited for a boy or girl who comes from a strong, faith-based household or is seeking spiritual direction for his or her life. Students who graduate from these schools are also expected to go to college and are not pressured to enter the ministry field.

General: Unlike military or religious boarding schools, general boarding schools dedicate nearly all learning hours to the core academic curriculum. They are similar to Texas’ best public schools except for the large student population. Many of them, however, specialize in certain subjects or careers, such as STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). Though they concentrate on the scholastics, these schools typically offer weekly religious services and some even offer a Junior ROTC unit. Keep in mind that no matter which model they follow, most college-prep boarding schools are generally very good about limiting distractions and filtering the negative influences that are often found in public schools, such as violence, drugs, etc.

3. Co-ed or Single-sex

Co-ed: The major advantage of a co-educational boarding school is that it is the most like real life. In the modern world, most men and women must interact with each other and work together. The disadvantage is the distraction of the opposite sex. Attempts to impress the opposite sex or frequent dating can shrink study time and lower a student’s GPA.

Single sex: The main advantage of a single-gender boarding school is that it eliminates the distraction of the opposite sex. Not only can students better focus on their studies, class participation is usually stronger because no one has to worry about embarrassing himself or herself in front of the opposite sex with a wrong answer. The disadvantage is that teenagers may not fully develop their social skills.

The name “Suvorov” schools was given in honor of the Russian commander Alexander Suvorov. Until October 1917, this name was given to the cadet corps, which was located in Moscow since 1914.

In 1943, eleven Suvorov schools were created, and in 1944 six more.

The task of the schools was to prepare boys for military service in the officer rank and give them a general secondary education.

The period of study at the Suvorov schools was seven years, they accepted boys who had reached the age of ten.

In the 1950s, the military training program at the Suvorov schools was significantly expanded. If in the first years of the existence of schools, it consisted of drill training, the study of the material part of small arms and general military regulations, then from October 1957, the foundations of military-technical training were added to these disciplines. This subject acquainted the Suvorovites with the principles of operation of jet weapons, the basics of radio engineering, electronics, nuclear physics, with the device and operation of a car and communication facilities.

Along with an increase in the level of military professional training of the Suvorovites, the orders of the Minister of Defense and the Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces required the graduates to be fluent in foreign languages. Since the 1956/1957 academic year, schools began to be transferred to a curriculum that provided 2000 hours for learning a foreign language. This made it necessary to increase the period of study at the SVU by one year and to equip the schools with officers who know a foreign language. In 1962, an additional (for those wishing to) exam for the qualification of a military translator was introduced for the Suvorov graduates.

In the 1960s, some of the Suvorov schools were disbanded, and in 1963 they began to be staffed by 14-year-old boys with an eight-year education. They established a three-year study period. In 1966, the foundations of ethics and the foundations of aesthetics were additionally introduced into the education system, which were closely linked with the extracurricular work carried out by company commanders, officer-educators and teachers of other disciplines.

In 1969 another innovation followed – the Suvorov schools switched to a two-year period of study (grades 9-10). Corresponding changes have been made to the curricula and programs. By the end of the 1970s, there were 8 Suvorov schools: Kazan, Kalinin, Kiev, Leningrad, Minsk, Moscow, Sverdlovsk and Ussuriysk.

In the 1980s, the Suvorov schools continued to improve their activities, develop various forms of classroom and extracurricular activities, and build up the existing pedagogical potential. After the collapse of the USSR, many of them became the leading educational centers for the preparation of young men for service as an officer in the system of national military education.

Currently, minor citizens of the Russian Federation under the age of 15 years old who graduated from 8 classes of a general educational institution in the year of admission can enter the Suvorov schools with a three-year study period, who have a direction from the personnel of the relevant internal affairs body of the Russian Federation or the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia at the place of registration candidates fit for health reasons, meeting the requirements of professional psychological selection.

Candidates for training who have studied a foreign language in a general education institution are selected to the Suvorov schools.

Suvorov military schools were created in accordance with the resolution of the Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR and the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks dated August 21, 1943 “On urgent measures to restore farms in areas liberated from German occupation “for the purpose of organizing, training and educating the children of soldiers of the Soviet Army and the Navy, partisans, Soviet and party workers, workers and collective farmers who died during the Great Patriotic War.

In 1944, the Gorky Suvorov Military School was also founded. On October 1, 1944, the Deputy Head of the Directorate of Military Educational Institutions of the TUK NKO USSR Guard Major General Nikitchenko presented the Banner to the Suvorov School. This day became the birthday of the Gorky (since August 1956 – Moscow) Suvorov military school.

On October 1, 1944, the school opened its doors to five hundred pupils aged from 7 to 14 years old. The first head of the school was Major General K. A. Zheleznikov, a participant in the Great Patriotic War, holder of many military awards.
Military officers, defenders of their socialist homeland, became commanders of companies, officers-educators. And most of the pupils of the first enrollment were orphans, sons of regiments, children of parents who fought at the front against the Nazi invaders.

On July 24, 1945, 210 pupils of the Gorky Suvorov School, as part of the combined regiment of the Suvorovites, participated in the Victory Parade on the Red Square of the capital.

In August 1956 the school was relocated to Moscow, in Fili, where the regiments of Bagration once stood.Since November 1957, the Moscow Suvorov Military School has taken part in all military parades that took place on Red Square. Years passed, the system of training Suvorovites changed.

In 1964, the school switches to a three-year training program. Boys began to be admitted here after the 8th grade at the age of 15-16. In 1991, the school was relocated to another district of Moscow – to Babushkinsky. I had to rebuild the barracks fund, classrooms and gyms, a library for myself.A lot of work has been done in 6 years. Now the school has a modern educational and material base, good living conditions, two gyms with sophisticated simulators, a television center, and a unique library fund. A stationary field training center has been equipped in the Moscow region. Pupils of the school have every opportunity for harmonious development and self-improvement.

The educational process at the Suvorov School is not only training, but also the upbringing of a person.For three years, educational work, varied in content and form, has been carried out, aimed at instilling in the Suvorovites a sense of pride and responsibility for belonging to the Armed Forces of Russia, readiness to enter the universities of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and subsequent service in the officer rank, loyalty to military duty. For fifty-three years, the Moscow Suvorov Military School trained and graduated about nine and a half thousand Suvorov soldiers. Of these, 112 Suvorovites graduated from the SVU with a gold medal and 237 – with a silver medal.
