Experienced Instructors and Quality Assurance
One of the key strengths of the Masters of Summer program is its commitment to quality instruction. The majority of classes are taught by experienced teachers from The Masters School itself. In rare cases where external instructors are brought in, they undergo thorough vetting to ensure they meet the school’s high standards.
John Chiodo, the director of Masters of Summer, emphasizes the importance of this approach: “It is very important that the programs are taught by our teachers. If we are going to manage the quality of the program, we need it to be run by people we know and trust.”
This dedication to quality instruction ensures that students receive expert guidance and mentorship throughout their summer experience.
Exciting New York City Excursions
In addition to on-campus activities, the Masters of Summer program offers exciting opportunities for students to explore New York City. These excursions are designed to broaden horizons and provide unique learning experiences outside the classroom setting.
Some of the New York City experiences offered include:
- Exploration of NYC art scenes
- Lessons in entrepreneurship
These excursions allow students to connect their learning to real-world applications and gain valuable insights into various fields.
Leadership Development Opportunities
A standout feature of the Masters of Summer program is its focus on leadership development. The program includes a specialized leadership component led by the Leadership Institute. Through this initiative, students engage in activities designed to foster a deeper understanding of themselves and their impact on their communities.
This leadership program can be instrumental in helping young people develop essential skills such as:
- Self-awareness
- Communication
- Team-building
- Problem-solving
- Ethical decision-making
By incorporating leadership development into the summer program, The Masters School demonstrates its commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals prepared for future challenges.
Specialized Swim Camp at The Masters School
For students particularly interested in swimming, The Masters School also offers a specialized swim camp as part of its summer programs. This camp, known as the Fusion Summer Swim Camp, provides focused instruction and training for swimmers of various skill levels.
Key Features of the Swim Camp
- Ability-based grouping: Campers are initially grouped by age and then by ability, ensuring appropriate instruction for each participant.
- On-site athletic trainers: To ensure the safety and well-being of campers, trainers are available to assist with illness prevention, injury prevention, and first aid.
- Flexible scheduling: The camp offers various options to accommodate different schedules and needs.
What sets the Fusion Summer Swim Camp apart from other swimming programs? The camp’s focus on individualized instruction and safety makes it an excellent choice for swimmers looking to improve their skills in a supportive environment.
Health and Safety Measures
The swim camp prioritizes the health and safety of its participants. All campers are required to submit a completed health form before participating in the program. This ensures that the staff is aware of any medical conditions or concerns and can provide appropriate care if needed.
Inclement Weather Plan
In the event of inclement weather, the swim camp has contingency plans in place. These alternative activities focus on:
- Agility training
- Video analysis of swimming techniques
- Individual meetings with coaches
This approach ensures that campers continue to learn and improve even when pool activities are not possible.
GameBreaker Lacrosse Camp at The Masters School
For students interested in lacrosse, The Masters School hosts a Boys GameBreaker Lacrosse Camp. This specialized camp offers intensive training and skill development for young lacrosse enthusiasts.
Camp Structure and Features
- Age and ability-based grouping
- On-site athletic trainers for safety and injury prevention
- Comprehensive health forms required for participation
- Contingency plans for inclement weather
How does the GameBreaker Lacrosse Camp differ from regular lacrosse practice? The camp provides a more intensive, focused environment for skill development, with expert coaches and a structured curriculum designed to improve players’ abilities across all aspects of the game.
Inclement Weather Activities
In case of bad weather, the lacrosse camp shifts focus to:
- Team building exercises
- Strategy sessions
- Individual meetings with coaches
These alternative activities ensure that players continue to develop their lacrosse knowledge and team skills even when on-field practice isn’t possible.
Transportation and Logistics
For all summer programs at The Masters School, including the Masters of Summer, Fusion Swim Camp, and GameBreaker Lacrosse Camp, transportation is not provided by the school or camp organizers. Families are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the campus for their children.
This policy allows for greater flexibility for families but also requires advance planning. Families should consider factors such as:
- Daily commute times
- Carpooling options with other camp families
- Public transportation availability
How can families best manage transportation for these summer programs? Many families find success in organizing carpools with other local participants or coordinating drop-off and pick-up duties among family members.
Cancellation and Refund Policies
The Masters School and its affiliated summer programs have specific cancellation and refund policies in place. These policies are designed to be fair to both the participants and the program organizers.
General Cancellation Policy
- Cancellations more than 15 days before the camp start date: Full tuition voucher issued, valid for any program or camp offered by eCamps.
- Cancellations 14 days or fewer before the camp start date: 50% tuition voucher issued, transferable to future programs within the same or next calendar year.
- Vouchers are transferable to family members and valid for one year from the date of purchase.
- No refunds or vouchers are offered for campers who leave after the start of a session.
What options do families have if they need to cancel their registration? The voucher system provides flexibility, allowing families to apply their tuition to future programs or transfer it to other family members if needed.
COVID-19 Considerations
In light of the ongoing global health situation, eCamps Sports Network (which manages some of the summer programs) has implemented a special policy:
If a 2020 summer camp is postponed due to facility closure or government mandate, campers receive a camp credit voucher for tuition fees paid. This voucher never expires, is fully transferable, and can be used for any sport.
This policy provides peace of mind for families planning ahead for summer activities in uncertain times.
The Masters of Summer program, along with the specialized swim and lacrosse camps, offer a rich array of opportunities for students to grow, learn, and enjoy their summer break. With expert instruction, diverse course offerings, and a commitment to safety and quality, these programs exemplify The Masters School’s dedication to providing exceptional educational experiences both during the school year and beyond.

A note about COVID health and safety: Foothill Country Day School and Parker-Anderson Enrichment are committed to the safety of everyone on our campus: All Parker-Anderson employees are vaccinated against COVID-19. We comply with all guidelines issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Our classrooms and learning spaces are fitted with MERV-13 air filters and are disinfected frequently. Anyone entering our campus must submit a health screening and must pass a temperature check. No unnecessary visitors are allowed on our campus during instructional time.
Guidelines have not yet been issued specific to Summer Camp programs but we anticipate they will be similar to the mandates for Kinder – 8 schools. As an example, you can expect that campers will be kept in groups of less than 15 children, and that that handwashing, social distancing, and the wearing of masks will be required. If a camper exhibits symptoms, is exposed to COVID-19 or tests positive for COVID-19, we will follow protocols for notifying other campers and quarantining. In some cases, the Camp program may be offered virtually.
You can see Foothill’s current policies and procedures HERE.
These are subject to change as the CDC and public health officials issue new protocols.
Kick Masters Karate – Kickstarting Confident Leaders
2021 Summer Camps (Wizarding Wars)
Kick Masters Karate Summer Camps (Ages 7-12)
Are you looking for a summer activity that is not only entertaining for your children, but is something different from the usual lounging around the pool? If soccer, basketball, or baseball camps just aren’t your thing, then maybe you should try our Wizarding Wars Summer Camp.
For sixteen straight years, Kick Masters Karate has hosted one of the most popular camps for elementary school students in the area. Armed with a traditional Tae Kwon Do base and years of experience, our Summer Camp features hands-on training in developing speed, coordination, agility, balance, and flexibility. But our Wizarding Wars Summer Camp isn’t just limited to developing the body. Camp Counselors will challenge campers with cutting-edge martial arts drills and games, while building self-esteem, character, and encouraging the indomitable spirit. Campers will inevitably develop self-control, focus, and respect, while becoming more confident and motivated. Participants also learn the value of teamwork and leadership, as our program is structured to bring out the best any child can exhibit. In fact, campers experience all-day themed fun while enjoying group demos, delicious snacks, weaponry, competitions, and of course, an energetic atmosphere. Themed skills and challenges happen all week, and culminate on “Parent’s Day”, when the entire family can witness the energy and entertainment our Wizarding Wars Summer Camp delivers.
But don’t just take our word for it:
“Austin had a blast. Just like Master Rando’s classes, the camp was very organized and structured for FUN! Activities were well planned and my son was excited to share what he had done each day when he came home. Austin is already looking forward to next year’s camp.” – Mr. and Mrs. Tim Farrell (Educators)
“Camp was a wonderful experience for Alex. He enjoyed the individual activities, as well as the games and drills with his team. The competitions were a great way to encourage cooperation, respect, and helpfulness. This is a great opportunity for kids in our area looking for something out of the ordinary to do. Alex is already talking about next year’s camp.” – Mrs. Donna Beeman (Parent and Elementary School Teacher)
This year Wizarding Wars Edge Summer Camp will take place at the Kick Masters studio between the dates of June 21-25 and August 9-13. Camp is held between the hours of 8:30AM and 3:00PM, with morning snacks served at 11:00AM (campers are responsible for bringing their own packed lunch). Our Summer Camp is open to all children ages 7-12, even if they’re not a current student. The cost of camp is $250.00 per camper if paid in full before June 1st (early bird special), or $279.00 per camper after June 1st.
With summer offering a more flexible schedule, why not enroll your children in a camp that will transform them into the leaders of their classrooms? Why not enroll them in a camp that will make them positive trend setters in their peer groups and physical standouts in the various other sports in which they may already be involved? Why not teach them the value of responsibility and commitment, while instilling honor and confidence? This summer make some new friends, and join us for a fun filled adventure guaranteed to surpass your expectations. We’ll see you there!
**Camp is open to a limited number of participants per session, so call (301) 689-8874 or send us an e-mail to reserve your spot before we’ve reach capacity. If you are interested but a specific camp session is already full, we can place you on a waiting list, and you’ll be contacted if a spot opens. Families may register for both camps providing availability. Official Enrollment begins on Monday, April 12th at 4:00PM.
Kick Masters Karate Summer Mini Camps (Ages 3.5-7)
Camping should be fun right? Well at this “camp,” there are no rainy days, wild animals, or even pesky bugs. This is an action-packed Wizarding Wars Summer Camp, and let me tell you, this is an experience your child will never forget. Pre-schoolers experience half-day karate fun while enjoying age specific drills, creative snacks, new karate games, team building, exciting crafts, mat chats, and group activities.
Our camp is the perfect way to let your child explore structured independence, while experiencing teamwork and group solidarity. It’s a great way to encourage character and self-esteem in your child, while nurturing the aspects of focus, self-control, respect, and discipline. Children will also learn the value of teamwork and leadership, as our program is designed to bring out the best your child can exhibit. And just like the Full-day Camp for the older kids, these skills are built each day, and culminate on “Parent’s Day,” where the entire family can witness the energy and entertainment our Summer Mini Camp delivers. But don’t just take our word for it:
“This camp was great! Seeing the kids so happy, you could tell by their faces they couldn’t wait to go back the next day. This was a very posit
ive and engaging experience for my son Kory especially. He was so disappointed when it ended. I’ve recommended this Camp to all of my friends.” – Mrs. Cassie Hunter (Parent of a Mini Karate Camper)
The Little Dragons Camp is extremely popular and fills up very, very quickly. Camp #1 is scheduled for June 15-18 and Camp #2 is scheduled for July 13-16 at the Kick Masters Karate studio. Camp is held between the hours of 8:30AM and 12:00 Noon, with morning snacks served around 10:30AM. Sessions are open to all children ages 3.5-7, even if they’re not a current student. Children may attend both sessions, however, it’s first come, first served on enrollment. Official Enrollment begins on Monday, April 12th at 4:00PM.
Camp Life – Keepers of Time – HSE Master’s Program.
A separate folder on the computer, like a separate page of life, is a children’s summer camp. Remembering his work as a director at the Oleg Koshevoy camp, Sergei Aleksandrovich noticeably warms up and speaks with great love about his “camp life”. During these eight years, educators, children and all the attendants have become a real family.
– There were guys at my place, they were crying the whole shift: “We want to go home.”The end of the shift comes, there is a carnival disco, I look – they are crying again, I ask them: “What’s the matter?” – “We don’t want to leave!”
The best way to say about work in the camp is the words from the song “Summer is a small life”. This is a really special aura. We often call up the teachers, although many of them worked one summer (came and went), we remember with warmth these eight years of our camp life. The camp was attended by guys from all over the Tula region. Kireevskaya boarding school has been visiting us for all eight years.Last year, 4 people from the boarding school reached the final of the dance competition “You are super!”
“You are super!” – an international television musical project of the NTV channel, in which children left without parental care take part.
The project participants are inmates of orphanages, boarding schools and children from foster and guardianship families aged 7 to 18 years.
They have a hip-hop group called Masta Funk. They even go to the hip-hop world championships, have been to the Caribbean islands, Holland several times. In 2016 they performed in Switzerland. We took second place. I am still friends with them, and with other guys, many have already grown up. I come to visit them, and they come to me.
In memory of the camp, the guys edited and presented a video to the former director. Sergei Aleksandrovich watches it with me, and tears are almost welling up in him: he believes that by his departure he broke the lives of many people. Not everyone was able to get along with the new bosses.
– I got married, I had a child, and I had to devote more time to my family, and when I was the director of the camp and the sanatorium at the same time, I didn’t even have days off. The cadet school was nearby, I was invited, I already met my parents, and in August I was offered to stay, but I couldn’t, I gave my word ..

Summer vacations make up a significant part of the free time of schoolchildren, but not all parents can provide their child with a full, properly organized rest. This period is favorable for the development of their creative potential, improvement of personal capabilities, familiarizing with the values of their culture, entering the system of social ties, implementing their own plans, satisfying individual interests in personally significant spheres of activity, creating a system of civil-patriotic education .
Children’s age is the most optimal for the system of civil-patriotic education, since this is a period of self-affirmation, active development of social interests and ideals in life.
