These small grants fund highly-needed, cost-effective projects that improve schoolyards, prepare teachers, provide supplies, and support field trips so that Georgia children can experience the benefits of outdoor learning, on or off campus.
It’s essential to give Georgia kids a chance to learn outside because research shows that this instructional approach increases academic gains, improves student health and well-being, sharpens the focus and attention of restless students, and helps children make real-world connections to the curriculum. BACKGROUND:
During the 2022 session, Georgia legislators passed a budget that included $75,000 for an initial round of GOLD Grants (Georgia Outdoor Learning Demonstration Grants). Eighty-eight schools and non-profit organizations from all parts of the state applied for these funds, which can be used for schoolyard improvements, professional learning for educators, teaching supplies, or field trips. A proposed docket will be considered and grants awarded at the State School Board meeting next week.
STATUS:
Senator Sheik Rahman, whose bipartisan Senate Study Committee on Outdoor Learning recommended that outdoor learning grants be funded last year, supports adding a $250,000 appropriation for GOLD Grants in the Department of Education budget for FY 2024. $75,000 was actually included in that line item by the Senate, and it is at risk of being cut to zero by the House during budget negotiations.
The large volume of applications received for the first round of GOLD Grants – despite a short application window during the winter holidays – is evidence of the great need for funds to help educators engage children in outdoor learning. There were many excellent, highly-ranked applications than could not be funded due to the small initial appropriation. Additional funding is needed so that ALL Georgia children can enjoy the health benefits, nature connection, academic gains, real-world investigations and problem solving opportunities provided by outdoor learning.

While Purdue’s tuition freeze has helped keep education costs down, many students still need ways to keep the cost of college within reach – enter the Boiler Gold Grant.
Purdue remains committed to the persistent pursuit of providing Indiana students an affordable, high-quality education. We know that going to college is a big decision and investment for many students and families. So, in addition to freezing tuition for more than a decade, Purdue is happy to introduce the Boiler Gold Grant. The Boiler Gold Grant is available to Indiana students who meet the eligibility requirements listed below. The best part? The Boiler Gold Grant covers tuition, fees and books.
How does it work?
We subtract the total amount of any gift aid (e.g., Pell Grants, scholarships, or awards) from the total cost of tuition, fees, and estimated book costs. Any remaining balance is covered by the Boiler Gold Grant for up to 8 semesters (that’s all four years!). Individual course fees associated with specific majors (e.g., labs, music, or aviation), as well as housing and dining costs, would not be covered by this grant.
Who is eligible?
Undergraduate Indiana residents at the West Lafayette campus that are enrolled full-time (12 credit hours or more) and are pursuing their first bachelor’s degree are eligible. Qualifying students must either be Federal Pell Grant eligible or have a family-adjusted gross income (AGI) of $80,000 or less on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students filing independently will be considered based on their Federal Pell Grant eligibility and AGI.

First things first – you need to apply to Purdue. The Early Action Application deadline is Nov. 1, but it’s important to apply no later than the Regular Decision Application
deadline of Jan. 15.

The project to organize the activities of the People’s Academy “Golden Age” for the elderly has a significant role in the field of social support for the population of Novosibirsk.
The project is aimed at improving the quality of life of older people and their adaptation to the new status of a pensioner. Within its framework, special attention will be paid to the development of their creative and socially forming skills: computer literacy, painting and graphics, puppet theater, beauty and health seminars, intellectual gymnastics.
Helping a person who is going through a crisis of transition to the status of a pensioner to see the prospects for his development, change himself, help himself and others to get a new chance for a rich, healthy, socially significant life is one of the tasks of the modern state. Extending the age of active longevity is the key to the success and stability of society.
The project uses the premises of the resource center of public associations of the Oktyabrsky district as the main territorial site. The project is being implemented in a coalition of public associations: ANO “First Aid”, health club “120 Plus”, Council of Veterans of the Oktyabrsky District, MCU “Active City”, deputy of the Council of Deputies Titarenko I. N.
As a result of the project implementation, at least 340 people will be trained in the areas. And holding a scientific-practical seminar on the specifics – the possibilities of SO NPOs in the field of teaching the elderly will draw the attention of the public of different categories to the topic, exchange experiences and determine ways to develop

In Novosibirsk, there is experience in the work of such courses – the People’s University of NSTU, training courses for working on the Internet “Pensioners – Online”, courses from the “Knowledge” society, etc. But, unfortunately, they cannot satisfy the needs of everyone who wants to practice. And also, it should be taken into account that due to the limited mobility of this category of citizens, courses for the elderly should be located at least in every district of the city.
