A National Youth Development Organization
We got our start as Camp Fire Girls in 1910, founded by Dr. Luther Halsey Gulick and his wife, Charlotte Vetter Gulick. They believed girls deserved the outdoor learning experiences that boys had and wanted to help “guide young people on their journey to self-discovery.”
While Camp Fire was America’s first multiracial, multicultural, and nonsectarian organization for girls, we became co-ed in 1975. Since then, ALL youth are welcome at Camp Fire.
Now, we have 54 chapters or “councils” across the country, with far more than camp programs. But no matter the program or location across the country, the Camp Fire experience remains the same. We focus on teaching youth the life skills they need to succeed and thrive, NOW.
When our kids and teens thrive, it positively impacts every one of us—in our homes, schools, communities, and workplaces.
In 1988, Camp Fire formalized its longstanding focus on teen service and leadership. Teens in Action® was created to seize the energy and ideas of teens to tackle real issues in their communities. Nationwide, teens participate in community service projects that develop life skills and make real differences in their communities.
In 1993, Camp Fire added sexual orientation to its Inclusion Policy.
In 1997, Camp Fire founded Absolutely Incredible Kid Day®—a national initiative to encourage the young people in our lives. Each year, millions of people use this day to write notes, letters, emails, social media posts, texts, etc. to the kids in their lives, celebrating their unique talents and telling them how awesome they are! Absolutely Incredible Kid Day® (AIKD) takes place every year on the third Thursday of March.
In 2010, Camp Fire celebrated its 100th birthday. Camp Fire participants across the country all lit campfires at the same time to honor the legacy of our organization. Camp Fire continues to celebrate its birthday on March 17th every year.
In 2012, Camp Fire became the first national youth development organization in the United States to implement the Thriving framework developed by the Thrive Foundation for Youth, based on the pillars of Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Camp Fire was one of the first organizations to teach kids and teens SEL skills through its programs with this new Thrive{ology} framework, a research-based approach for youth success.
In 2017, we completed our integration of Thrive{ology} across all 54 councils, launched the Camp Fire National Headquarters Five-Year Business and Fund Development Plan, received a third investment from the S. D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation for $2.5 million, and were selected in a highly competitive process to be one of the Seach Institute’s five national partners for their Relationships Outcome Initiative (ROI) focused on strengthening adult-youth relationships.

Girl Scouts of Utah is requiring COVID-19 testing for all campers
and staff. Please note that our testing protocols have changed
effective July 21, 2021. This information is different from the
initial information we shared in April, as well as the information we
had previously shared leading up to this date. Fortunately, COVID-19
PCR tests are now widely available, making our new testing protocols
possible. All camp operations this summer are subject to change due to
the very fluid situation with COVID-19.
TESTING REQUIREMENTS (Updated 7/21/21)
– Due to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases with the delta
variant and after consulting with our medical advisor, we have made
the decision that all camp participants need to submit a negative
PCR test before going to camp, regardless of
vaccination status. We know this is a change and we appreciate your
patience as we work to ensure a safe environment for our campers and staff.
TESTING SITES
– It is up to campers and families to find a testing site and secure
an appointment if appointments are required.
– There are many testing options in Utah, including sites operated
by healthcare providers, private labs, and TestUtah.
– For more information on how to access testing from the major
healthcare providers and how to make your experience as smooth as
possible, click on the links below.
– Many testing sites are free. If you opt to pay for a test, you are
responsible for any testing fees. GSU will not reimburse for testing fees.
– If you live outside of Utah, you will need to research testing
sites in your state.

TIMELINE
In order to get results in time to attend camp,
tests must be completed on the following timeline. All times listed
are Mountain Daylight Time.
For camp programs starting on MONDAY:
- Complete test THURSDAY between 6:00 a.m. – noon in the week
prior to camp. - Upload test results or proof of vaccination
by SUNDAY at 5:00 p. m.
For camp programs starting on WEDNESDAY:
- Complete test SATURDAY between 6:00 a.m. – noon in the week
prior to camp. - Upload test results or proof of vaccination
by TUESDAY at 5:00 p.m.
– Testing must follow this timeline. We will not accept tests that
were processed early. If your only option is to take the test late,
please still do so but with the understanding that you will not be
allowed at camp until we have your negative test results. If that
leads to a late check in, you will need to make arrangements with the
camp director.
– Camp sessions are full. If you do not follow the testing timeline
and do not have your test results in time, we will not be able to move
you to another camp session because our programs are full with a waitlist.
TEST RESULTS
– If your PCR test result is INCONCLUSIVE, you will need to test
again until you have a positive or negative result.
– If your PCR test result is POSITIVE, call Girl Scouts of Utah at
801-265-8472 or email info@gsutah. org. We will work with
you directly to issue a full refund for your camp registration.
– If your PCR test result is NEGATIVE or if you have a COVID-19
vaccination card, upload your documentation to UltraCamp.
- Visit the Document
Center in UltraCamp. - Click on either “COVID-19 PCR Test
Result” or “COVID-19 Vaccination Card.” - Follow the prompts,
including uploading your document. - After your document is
processed, you will receive a notification from UltraCamp. - Note: There is a delay between when you upload the document and
when you will receive the notification. Only upload the document one
time. - Keep a copy of your test result or vaccination card and
bring it with you to camp as a backup. This copy needs to be a
screenshot or a paper copy, not a link or email that will require
internet.
POST-TEST REQUIREMENTS
After taking the test, our
expectation is for campers to quarantine within their household. If
campers need to go out in public, they must wear masks and maintain
physical distance from people outside their household.
TESTING DURING CAMP
– Camp staff who are not vaccinated
will be tested regularly throughout the camp season.
– Campers will be tested at camp if they show symptoms of COVID-19
or if they have not been vaccinated and are a close contact of a
positive COVID-19 person.
– For campers who are attending GSU camp sessions back-to-back, and
who are not vaccinated, we will test them at camp for the following week.
– Non-vaccinated participants in multi-week programs will be
routinely tested each Thursday with staff:

LDS Girls Camp
Themes
The Abundant Life: Pure & Simple – Our theme this
year will be centered around the idea of the harvest, with focus on planting,
cultivating and harvesting. Each ward will be a farm with signs to put up in
each tent site. The objective is to get back to the basics of righteous living,
reaping what one sows. Along with basic certification we will be teaching basic
sewing, having a quilt show (each ward will be bringing at least one quilt they
have made prior to camp and these quilts will be donated) basics of scripture

A Pearl of Great Price – Each ward will choose a “gem” to represent their camp. The stake are pearls and will wear white shirts, etc. The focus is to teach each yw that they are a pearl of great price and to empower them with self worth and knowledge.

Mission Impossible (with the “im” crossed out) – complete with sun glasses, black clothes, secret missions, “kidnappings”, etc…- Natalie
Can You Imagine (taken from ALMA 5:16).
– It was posed as something to ponder as opposed to a question. We had the
young women “imagine” their worth as a beloved daughter of God, they are
preparing to go to the temple, becoming a mother, perhaps serving a mission, and
enduring to the end . Our camp units were imaginary places and it really was a
fun theme. Some of our imaginary places were—Where the Wild Things Are, Candy
Land, the Secret Garden, and the stake leaders were in the Care Bears Carealot. There were many other imaginary places that were very creative and fun.

Noah’s Ark. – Every
ward is a different value color and animal. For example; Orange Orangutans, Red
Rhinos etc. Our stake had a Giant Ark with balloons as the rainbow. We had ark
partners from other wards. This helped getting to know other members of our
stake. The stake served animal snacks such as teddy grahams, fish crackers whatever you can think of. We focused on working together and being prepared. (This was not my idea, but it was so much fun.)

S.T.A.R. – Stand for Truth And Righteousness. It was lots of fun, and easy to decorate for! Good luck! Ashley
Disneyland Theme – Each year was a different part of
Disneyland… the 4th years (adventurers) were adventure land, third years were tomorrow land, second years were toon town, and first years were fantasy land. Even our priesthood participated… they were
frontier land. Each group chose their group name based on something from that part of
Disneyland. there is a great Disney outlet store here, so we got lots of cool
Disney stuff really cheap. We tied the yearly YW theme of “let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly” with the fact that most all
Disney movies are g-rated. so we made a g-rating logo for the back of the t-shirts that said “Appearance and behavior suitable for all audiences. Contains virtuous, confident, intelligent, happy, and divine young woman . D&C 121 :45″. the girls and staff loved it. We even had some girls dress in character costumes for the other girls to take pictures with. We talked a lot about media influences and how to live a g-rated life. It was a lot of fun.

Anchored in Faith –
Each ward had a water theme like one ward was spongebob another ward was nemo.. But not all of them had to be movies. our ward was fishers of men:D… we talked about how anchors and faith went hand in hand it was fun yet really a spiritual camp.-

F.R.O.G. – Forever Rely On God Our
theme was on having the faith to rely on god, by reading scriptures, prayer etc
Songs of the Heart – In my stake one year we did songs of the heart and each unit had their own song. For example my unit chose fun, fun, fun by the beach boys. We decorated our camp with beach stuff. Another unit
did mission impossible, and they decorated their camp acordingly. – Kimber, Bothell stake, Washington
Bee your own type of beautiful – Michaela
I Want to be a Missionary Now – Each ward will get a
mission call to a country that someone from our Stake is from. They will use
that person/persons to learn more about that country before camp. They will
decorate their tents and area to fit their country. They will have country
flags. The morning of camp we will have a MTC Orientation at the Stake Center with the parents and YW. We will sing “Called to Serve”, have a speaker and then have the parents leave out one door while our YW go out the other with their sleeping bags and luggage. Then we will proceed to our Camp. We will give each YW a missionary name badge. One night we will have a potluck night and all the wards will make food from their countries. We haven’t figured out the themes for each day yet, but one day will be a Prep Day, one day like being in the mission field, and one day how we can be a missionary at home. We will use the medley song “We’ll Bring the World His Truth/ As Sisters in Zion” for our bishopric/Stake Presidency evening. We felt that this fit the theme for 2009 very well!! “Be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12
For our camp service project we had a few different things in mind. So I am not sure which one we will do yet. Either write testimonies in Books of Mormon, do humanitarian projects from DI, write letters to those serving missions in our Stake, or something else.

Daughter of a King – We were all princesses through
out girls camp and each group was a different country – Carly
Joy in the Journey – This year we are doing a theme ‘ called ‘Joy in the Journey’ from the song that we sung at the day of celebration. My ward has had a very difficult time with a tragic passing of a young man in our ward and have kind of lost sight that our World is not all that bad. Some of the activities that we are doing are, An Alma the Younger walk. It is kinds of like a faith walk but focused on the Atonement. It will be early in the morning just as the sun is starting to come up representing have the light of Christ come in to our lives through repentance. And then through out the walk have different quotes that start with why we need the savior, what He has done for us, and then the joy that we will have if we come back to Him.
As well as an activity showing how short our time is on the earth. What we will do is get a long string and tie a SMALL knot some where on the string then tie the string between two trees and then have the girls find the knot. The knot representing our life on this earth and the string representing eternity.

MASH – Modern Army Serving Heaven.
The theme was based on mash the show so everyone wore army clothing and tan t-shirts and it was based on growing closer to our heavenly father
Polynesian – We made our camp “Camp Wanahakalugi” with a sign and different
Hawaiian decorations. For the extravaganza we had 4 foot surf boards cut and they painted them anyway they wanted using the theme “arise and shine forth”. We had a show where they walked with their surfboard in front of everyone and then votes were taken for “the cutest” “the most creative” ect. and gave out awards (shell necklaces). They used their surfboards as decorations in their rooms after camp.

H.O.T.T. Rod – Last year we did Camp H.O.T.T. Rod (It stands for Hold onto the Rod). We used the theme music (and other ideas) from the Disney movie…Cars. Our 6th years were the Monster Trucks, 5th years were Hummers, 4th years were Jeeps, 3rd years were Mustangs, 2nd years were VW Beetles, and the 1st years were Mini Coopers.

The Olympics – each year/ward can choose a different country to be and you can build off of this. We are having the “Opening Ceremony” the first night of Girls’ Camp, just like in the Olympics.
Treasure Seeker – Our Theme this year is “Treasure Seeker”. We have revamped pirate songs and plan to teach the girls how to search for eternal treasures.

Be Your OWN Beautiful, Walking Tall as a Daughter of God
– Wanted to share our camp theme this year as it has been ALOT of fun already
and we haven’t even gotten to camp. Our theme is Be Your OWN Beautiful, Walking
Tall as a Daughter of God. It is compiled from two sources, the Mormon Ad Be
Your Own Kind of Beautiful and the song Walk Tall You’re a Daughter of God. Each
ward is a different flower and everything at camp will be flower themed. (This
is taking from the roses and daisy from the Mormon ad). So many thoughts have
come pouring in. There are many different spiritual analogies that can be used

their cabin theme that were very cute and creative. You can focus on one character per day.

B.O.O.T Camp (Building Our Own Testimonies)- WE worked on our testimonies all week, and talked about the
gospel.
The Greatest Story Ever Told – Each group chose a different story that they liked (Cinderella, Little Red Riding hood, etc) The Stake leaders were star wars and the 5th years were Fairy God mothers. We had a devotional where they
told us how to use our journals to write down our stories.- Stephanie
Once Upon A Time – each day we added something to the end of Once Upon a Time. . . Like “Once Upon A Time. . . Princess in training”. By the end of the week it was “Once Upon A Time. . . A Daughter of A King. our ultimate goal was to focus on the fact that we are all Daughters of our Heavenly Father and that one day we will be married in the temple and will
begin our eternal road, on the way to our Father.

Arise and Shine, It’s Fishing Time – On the first day of camp, we handed out fly-fishing hats that said the theme (Arise & Shine It’s Fishing Time) When a girl would do something like helping the cooks ( Service) They would get
flies to put on their hats. For crafts the girls could make shrinky-dinks with patterns of fishes and frogs. If they climbed to the top of the Rock Wall, they would get fishing line tied around a safety pin, bobbles, and fake bugs. It was great. Even now, I see the girls wearing their hats occasionally.

Rise to the Occasion Just Like….(Ammon,
Nephi, Captain Moroni) – Put your favorite Book of Mormon hero. Each unit
will be decorated for the units favorite hero. I like this idea because it is so
broad and we can have a lot of fun with it…plus it goes with the youth theme
this year Arise and shine forth. – Mckoye

Decades (Our Love For Christ Will
Withstand the Test of Time) – Hey guys!! Just wanted to share a real cool idea for a camp theme..well, I’m the YCL president this year for my Stake. Much planning is still going on, but we’ve come to the
conclusion of our theme for this year. It is: DECADES “Our Love For Christ WILL withstand the Test of Time”. It will be awesome. All the different levels will be divided into different decades…(50’s, 60’s, 70’s,80’s etc…) we are sooo excited. I know, that with the Lords help, this will be a major success, and a tremendous testimony builder. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!

Heroes of Our Heritage – Our theme this year was “Heroes of Our Heritage” We centered our camp around the early beginnings of the restoration and movement westward. We called our camp “Summer Quarters”. Each cabin was named after a profession of the day (i.e. candlemakers, blacksmith, wheelwrights) We used some great old quilts to decorate our lodge and dried old flower for center-pieces. At crafts the girls learned to make rope, dip candles, quilt etc. Everybody brought bonnets and dresses. We included pioneer music into our campfire program. We also did a guess what hero this is with a “Blast From the Past” guessing game.

Survivor: Outlast, Outsmart and Outshine – Last year we did Survivor, Outlast, outsmart, outshine. We had a lot of fun with this theme. To make certification more fun, we taught things in the morning, then in the afternoon we had “Immunity Challenges.” We timed them with stop watches and each level had to do something that pertained to their certification taught that day. We had huge success with this, the girls are begging us to do it again this year. Also, we had the greatest song to go along with this theme. It is from EFY, “A More Excellent Way.” The girls loved this because it is up beat. We as stake leaders made up a ribbon dance (playing off of Day of Celebration) to the song and performed it. It was fantastic.

tag style necklace at the beginning of the week and collected stuff to put on
them.
YW Theme – Have each unit represent a YW theme. If you need them quick just call the value! Have them wear their color and do a small lesson on their value.

Survivor – For our camp this year our theme was “Survivor” and each ward had to come up with a silly survivor name (Ya-ya sisters, The supa-upa’s,
etc) and a song to their ward’s name. After camp everyone had agreed that it was
a fun and good theme for the year (We got poured on and most of the wards went home) and so we agreed, we had survived girls camp.

Holidays – We did our ward camp last year around all the holidays. Each day we had several different holidays. We had a birthday party the first day when they arrived complete with cup cakes and games and a little gift. We had Christmas, 4th of July, Easter, Valentines, Thanksgiving (testimony night) Halloween. They were all about how they tie into the gospel. Our camp theme was Happy Everything. It was great fun!!!
MASH Camp (More Active Spiritual Homes)
– We did an army theme, dyed t-shirts army green and had them folded and ready when the recruits joined us. The camp invites were mailed to them, as orders to report for active duty, dog tags were issued, the YW pres was the general, camp director the colonel, jr leaders were captains, etc. A recording of a fire engine played at 2:30 a.m. made a great air raid, and the recruits were pulled out of bed and taken to a meadow where they had to pick up dollar mints that were scattered there by the leaders, and put them into buckets their jr leader had. At the end of camp a necklace was given to each girl, value colored beads for each camp certification, and a wooden heart painted purple with the camp theme on it.
In Tune – Each ward (or cabin) chose a musical (7 brides for 7 brothers, The King and I, etc.) Their skits, cheers, and crafts centered on their musical. Devotionals were about being in tune with the Holy Ghost. Let the Holy Spirit guide.
A Marvelous Work – Since this is the 200th anniversary of the Prophet Joseph Smith’s birthday, our Girls Camp theme is “A Marvelous Work.” We are using pearls as a sub-theme, with a luau for bishop’s night. Hopefully, it will be a real testimony-building experience for the girls.
Super Hero’s – I’m a YCL (youth camp
leader) in my stake and our camp for this year is “Super Hero’s from the Scriptures and Latter Days.” Each Ward is coming up with a name (ex. Cochran Ward-Cochranites…)They can also come up with own crest (like superman’s) and with their own flag (title of liberty.) We are also using the songs “Go the Distance” by
Michael Bolton and the church song “Never A Better Hero. ” Our scripture is Alma 53:20-21 (I think)
We are all really excited. We are going to learn about not only our male hero’s but also about Ruth, Ester, Sis. Hinkley…and so on. We are also going to be talking about powers, and our powers and the power of the Priesthood. We have a lot planned and this is just a little bit of it. You can add your own ideas. I can’t wait to see how it goes.

Picking a camp theme is the most important part of planning camp because it sets the stage for everything else that goes along with planning camp. Here are a few ideas for camp themes that have worked very well for our Stake!
“Reach for the Stars” The Stake camp was Star command (from Buzz Light year) all the other units were named using the “star theme” such as Super Stars, and they used a sports theme to decorate their camp and so on. We talked about setting goals and reaching for the stars! Another theme we used was “Way to be” We used President Hinckley’s B’s and each unit was assigned a value color for their camp T-shirt. That year our camp necklaces centerpiece was a large bee. It worked out really cute! Another year our theme was “I wanna be…just like me!” We talked alot about individual worth that year and our centerpiece for our camp necklace was a heart with a mirror in the middle. This year our theme is “B.U.G.S” Which stands for Beautiful, Unified, Grateful, Sisters. Each unit picked a bug, The Stake is Dragonflys, we have grasshoppers, honey bees, fireflys,and butterflies. Our necklace is a large rubber bug glued to a piece of wood with a leaf on it. Our t-shirts have each of the bugs from each unit on them. We also used the theme “O-hana” which means family. We decorated using the Hawaiian theme and each unit was named something Hawaiian, like Surfer Girls and so on. We decorated with tiki torches and surf boards and everyone wore leis. Our center piece for our camp necklace was a large red heart meaning love which stands for family in Hawaiian. We even named our lodge where we eat the Hula Hut Grill and decorated it with fringe from paper grocery sacks and white X-mas lights! We had some real hawaiian entertainment for our Bishops night and I taught the girls the Lilo and Stitch “Hawaiian roller coaster ride” dance. We had so much fun with that theme. Have fun!

Be Loyal to the Royal Within
– This was our camp theme. Every ward had a princess assigned to them, and each princess came with a value. Throughout camp we did things that related to the value, and the wards decorated their areas in the colors and style of their princess. We used Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Fiona, Dot (Bug’s Life), Cinderella, Ariel, Jasmine. The girls learned about their royal beginning in heaven, and how important it is to live up to it.

I Hope They Call Me On A Mission – We sent each ward on a mission (mission call and all) to a foreign country. They had to memorize D&C section 4 before camp. They also had to learn “I am Child of God” in their countries language. We tried to focus our
activities on missionary work, divine mission in life, and focused on the 2005 YW/YM theme of “Marvelous Work and Wonder” so we talked about Joseph Smith, Jr. I felt the girls left camp with a better understanding of what their mission in life really is and we strengthened some testimonies.

Challenges & Valor | Crestridge for Girls Christian Summer Camp
The oldest village is the Bluerock village. Once a girl has completed
the Bluerock challenge twice, she is eligible to be tapped out for the
Valor Challenge. When the camper is “tapped out”, they begin a
12-hour challenge that is completed during the middle of the night. We encourage campers to use this challenge as a time to spend with the Lord and rely on His strength. We want campers to know that they can be strong because of the Lord!
The challenge begins with the fire portion. Each girl has one hour to collect firewood and get their fire started with just three matches. After their fire is lit, each girl must keep their fire going for three hours. During those three hours, she will write an essay that allows her to reflect on the summer theme and what God has been teaching her at camp so far. After the fire and essay portion are complete, girls will complete manual labor around camp. Just before sunrise, the girls will hike Rattlesnake within 17 minutes and have a devotion at the top. During the remainder of the 12 hours, girls will have time for more reflection.
One of the hardest aspects of the challenge is the silence band. From the moment the challenge begins, girls may not communicate with other challenge participants or those leading the challenge. This includes verbal and non-verbal communication. This part of the challenge allows girls the opportunity to grow in self-control as well as have continuous communication with God.
At the end of the 12 hours, if a girl has completed all aspects of the Valor Challenge, she will have attained the highest rank in the Council of
Progress, the rank of Valor. Valor means “strength of mind or spirit that enables a person to encounter danger with firmness, personal bravery”. This describes what is expected of these young women that have the honor of being tapped out. A camper of Valor will be one who has completed the 12-hour challenge, who strives to face their challenges with courage, who stands out and lights the way for those around them. They will receive a white honor band that stands for Strength. The verse for the rank of Valor is Joshua 1:9, which says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”.
If all aspects of the Valor Challenge are not completed, she will receive the rank of Trekker. A trekker is someone on a long journey. While a Trekker’s time in the Valor Challenge may have been cut short, her journey has just begun. She will receive a light blue honor band that stands for Endurance. The verse for the rank of Trekker is Philippians 3:13-14, which says, “I know that I have not yet reached that goal, but there is one thing I always do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Camp Fire Boys And Girls
CAMP FIRE GIRLS. The origin of the Camp Fire Girls belongs to a larger, complex history of scouting in America. Two early promoters of the scouting movement were Earnest Thompson Seton and Daniel Beard. Seton established an organization for boys called the Woodcraft Indians in 1902 and Daniel Beard began an organization for boys called the Sons of Daniel Boone in 1905. The themes of the two organizations varied, but both influenced the establishment of the Boy Scouts of America in 1910. The sister organization to the Boy Scouts became the Camp Fire Girls, initially evolving from a lone New England camp run by Luther and Charlotte Gulick.
Dr. Luther Gulick was a well-known and respected youth reformer. His wife, Charlotte Gulick, was interested in child psychology and authored books and articles on hygiene. After consulting with Seton, Mrs. Gulick decided on using his Indian narrative as a camp theme. The name of the camp and motto was “Wo-He-Lo,” an Indian-sounding word that was short for “Work, Health, and Love.” Following the Woodcraft model, Mrs. Gulick focused on nature study and recreation. That first year they had seventeen young girls in camp singing songs and learning crafts. A year later William Chauncy Langdon, poet, social worker, and friend of the Gulicks, established another girls’ camp in Thetford, Vermont, that followed the Woodcraft model. He was the first to coin the name “Camp Fire Girls.”
In 1911 Luther Gulick convened a meeting at the Horace Mann Teachers College to entertain the ways and means of creating a national organization for girls along the lines of the Boy Scouts. Seton’s wife, Grace, and Beard’s sister, Lina, were both involved in the early organization and lobbied for a program that adopted Indian and pioneer themes. In 1912 the organization was incorporated as the Camp Fire Girls, and chapters soon sprang up in cities across the country. In the summer of 1914 between 7,000 and 8,000 girls were involved in the organization and a decade and a half later there were nearly 220,000 girls meeting in 9,000 local groups. The Camp Fire Girls remained an important part of the scouting movement throughout the twentieth century. The name was changed to the Camp Fire Boys and Girls in the 1970s when boys were invited to participate, and in 2001 the organization became known as Camp Fire U.S.A.

High Adventure
Mountain Mission
Head up into the hills for a week of
high adventure and fun! This camp will introduce girls to
adventure-based outdoor sports, camping, and survival skills.
Archery, rock climbing and river living all await those risk takers on
this Mountain Mission. Timbercrest campers will experience
breath-taking whitewater, while those at Castle Rock get to float a
serene river with options for tubing and stand up paddle boarding (SUP)!
Extreme Explorations
Calling all older campers ready to
step-up their outdoor adventure game! Come climb to lofty heights and
float on pristine rivers, and then enjoy a horseback ride through the
wilds of Montana’s landscapes. At Timbercrest, campers will
experience breath-taking whitewater rafting, and they will get the
treat of ending their horseback trail ride with a hearty chuck wagon
meal. At Castle Rock, campers will tack-on a day of cave exploration
in addition to horseback riding. At each location, our explorers will
spend a day trekking a nearby trail with all they need on their backs.
Don’t forget about those camp classics like archery!
Girl Scout vs. Wild
Picture yourself stranded in the
woods, far from civilization, armed only with your intelligence and
your friends to help you find your way home. Early in the week, these
determined campers will practice skills essential to surviving life in
the Rocky Mountain wild. Navigation, fire starting, plant ID and
knots are just the start of skills needed to survive this special
course. After their training, campers will get an opportunity to put
their new skills to the test by teaming up to “survive” a trek from
the wild back to the security of camp.
Classic
Good Pods & Great Bakes
Are you the type of person
who likes to listen to podcasts? Or are you somebody who enjoys a
home-baked cake with all the toppings? Have you ever wanted to become
a storyteller? If you answered yes to any of these questions, than do
we have a week for you; filled with stories, creative games, and baked
goodies to share. While story telling is the oldest form of
entertainment, we’re giving it a modern twist, with Podcasts! Girl’s
will get a chance to direct, record, and star in their own episode. Of
course, everyone knows that sweet treats power creative artists.
Campers will also create baked desserts like cakes and cookies, and
they will decorate them with all the flair you’d see on a top-notch
baking show.
Forest of Mystery
Head into the forest each day to
overcome challenges and solve mysteries that will test your teamwork,
problem solving skills, and creativity. Can you outsmart, outlast, and
outplay your fellow campers? Head over to tribal council to find out
who exactly is the future Camp Director, where you’ll get the chance
to vote on categories like positivity, cleverness, leadership, and
resourcefulness. Keep a sharp eye out for those hidden idols, if you
find any, turn them in for a reward that will give you a boost in the
next challenge or make camp life just a little cozier!
Mountain Magic
Yes, the mountains hold a certain magic,
and during this one special week at Timbercrest, our girls will
perfect a handful of mysterious enigmas and jaw-dropping illusions.
Our campers will practice and hone their magic so that by the end of
the week, they can choose to entertain the camp community at closing
campfire. Along with wizardry-school instruction, days will be
interspersed with wizard games and crafts inspired by pixies and fairies.
Wildcrafters
Girl’s who love nature, animals, and crafts
will find everything to fit their fancy during this week of camp.
Campers will learn to identify and use native plants to create useful
concoctions of essential oils, scented candles, and aroma-therapeutic
soaps. So we’re not just taking from the world, camper’s will
diligently create living worlds to take home and raise! The oldest
known terrarium is 53 years old, anybody feel like a challenge?
Wildcrafters at Timbercrest Camp will visit the Yellowstone Wildlife
Sanctuary to get animal-inspiration for their artistic creations.
GS Summer Games
In celebration of this summer’s Olympic
games, GSMW is offering a week of camp dedicated to worldly
competition and bizarre gaming conquests. Campers should expect this
camp to include archery, basketball and volleyball. Of course, soccer
is a world game standard, but would you expect human-bubble soccer!?
Every camper will have the chance to climb atop the medal podium after
playing all sorts of strategic, bizarre and spirted contests. Imagine
yourself competing for the gold medal in gaga ball, jumbo bananagrams,
and massive memory! Be sure to pack your game face in addition to
your spirit of fun and fair play!
Digging History
At Castle Rock only, GSMW presents a
whirlwind tour of everything dug-up, archeological and geological from
the depths of Butte, America. Campers will spend a day at the World
Museum of Mining and take a tour of a 100-foot deep mine, and then
visit Lewis & Clark Caverns for an underground cave tour.
Speaking of geology, why wouldn’t these campers get a chance to make
the most spectacular pet rocks ever known? In addition to fishing and
swimming, Girls will also explore the grand historical artifacts of
Camp Castle Rock itself, which has served as a Girl Scout camp since
the 1930s.
Night Owl
Does the bright light of daylight hurt your
eyes? Do you only start to wake up as the sun goes down? Spend the
week exploring the wonders of the natural world using your senses… at
night! The world magically transforms and reveals secrets that day
dwellers just won’t understand. You’ll get to explore the Planetarium
in Casper, create a star map, and there may even be a kitchen raid to
keep up our strength for that night hike. Don’t worry; you’ll get to
sleep in!
Aces of Archery
The quest to become an elite archer
begins with Aces of Archery. Every day, campers will learn and
practice new archery skills through personalized instruction and
creative archery games. Girls will travel to nearby field archery
courses to try their hand at a sport akin to “archery golf”. Upon
their return from the local field archery range, campers will make
their own field archery course at camp! This year’s crew of awesome
archers will also learn about archery competition and tournament play
by practicing scoring, then participating in a competition with their
new camp friends.
Silver Spurs
GSMW and Reach 4A Star are offering
another great summer full of horseback riding skills and adventure.
Campers will study horse anatomy and health, and they’ll learn how
to manage a horse barn. Along with four hours each day at the horse
corral, Girls will experience the traditional side of camp with
campfires, songs, games and crafts to boot!
This introductory camp is aimed at teaching:

90,000 To the music of Vivaldi: a review of “Portrait of a Girl on Fire” Celine Schiamma
On October 24, “Portrait of a Girl on Fire” by Frenchwoman Celine Schiamma will be released in Russia. The premiere of the tape took place at the Cannes Film Festival, where she took the prize for the best screenplay and “Queer Palm”. This is the love story of an aristocrat, who is soon married off, and the artist who paints her portrait. Film critic of Gazeta.Ru Pavel Voronkov – about what one of the best films of the year teaches us.
The undisputed hit of the Cannes Film Festival is a French film about the tragic love of two girls, which the enthusiastic press includes in the lists of the best films of the year.It was also possible to start the text at the end of 2013: then on the Cote d’Azur they showed “The Life of Adele” by Abdelatif Keshish, a film adaptation of Julie Marot’s graphic novel “Blue is the Warmest Color”. The tape took the main award of the show (for the first time in history, it was received not only by the director, but also by the two main actresses) and the prize of the International Film Press Federation.
In 2019, “Portrait of a Girl on Fire” was also expected to win in Cannes, but in the end, the jury noted only the screenplay (the film also got “Queer Palm” for its coverage of the LGBT theme in the cinema).South Korean “Parasites” Bong Joon-ho was recognized as the best picture of the festival; quite a decent choice, I must say.

Although Life and Portrait have much in common and will inevitably be compared (it would be more appropriate to recall last year’s Favorite by Yorgos Lanthimos), in one thing they are fundamentally different.Keshish’s work is a museum specimen of a movie about lesbian love, shot with a “male gaze”. In fact, this is a 179-minute fantasy of a heterosexual man about the relationship of two pretty girls. Approaching this unobvious edge, the film over and over again drives into unexpected everyday life.Rarely where do you see a scene with a makeshift abortion, performed with a slight touch of comicity. The director of “The Portrait” is generally extremely witty with the translation of her material into on-screen language. In contrast to the pornographic nature of The Life of Adele, Schiamma offers a number of elegant allegorical imagery and, in particular, gives the world an example of the most inventive use of the armpit in the history of cinema.
The film, in principle, equates all the way “high” to “low”, and “traditional” to “progressive”. Rethinking the antique story about the poet and his muse, “Portrait of a Girl on Fire” uses theatrical techniques (the art of acting, as we remember, also originated in Ancient Greece) mixed with visual, fundamentally cinematic humor. Three heroines, formally belonging to different social strata – an aristocrat, an artist and a servant – share the same table and food as equals.
