TBILISI, Aug 7 — Sputnik. Ilia State University (Iliauni) and San Diego State University are starting construction on a new campus in Tbilisi, the university said.
A four-storey building with an area of 4,750 square meters will be built near Vake Park on Cholokashvili Street. Construction work will begin in early August and will be completed in autumn 2018.
The building will be equipped with the latest technology, the campus will house classrooms, workspaces, electronic and structural engineering laboratories of international standard.
200 students from Georgia will receive a scholarship to study at the best universities in the world
San Diego State University has been a partner of Georgian universities since 2013. San Diego State University offers American undergraduate programs in civil, civil, computer and electronic engineering to Georgian students.
Georgian students have the opportunity to continue their studies at the California campus of San Diego State University (SDSU) for one semester and one year.
Ilya State University was founded in 2006 as a result of the merger of six institutions. At this stage, it is one of the leading scientific and educational institutions in Georgia. As noted at the university itself, the unified space of the school is based on the following principles: academic freedom, freedom of conscience and freedom of choice.
The project is funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation.
Kutaisi International University
Kutaisi International University (KIU) is the highest ranked public university in Georgia and the very first state-of-the-art campus-based higher education institution in the Caucasus region. The university provides modern, broad-based, residential education on a par with leading educational institutions in the US and Europe. KIU teachers are domestic and foreign professors, recognized experts in their fields. The foreign professors hired are mainly from Germany thanks to a strategic partnership between KIU and TUM International (a subsidiary of the Technical University of Munich (TUM)). Our Honorary President is the former TUM President Prof. Wolfgang Herrmann. KIU is supported by the CARTU International Charitable Foundation with a donation of 1 billion euros. The goal of the university is to become an international center of education, science and technology in the region.
The KIU campus is located in the city of Kutaisi, the third largest city in Georgia (Sakartvelo). The KIU campus is spread over a beautiful 150-hectare site in an ecologically clean forest with a river flowing through it.
A key part of KIU’s strategic plan is the opening of the world’s leading medical and research centers. These will include KU’s Hadron Therapy Center (HTC), which houses two cyclotrons, a proton therapy clinic for cancer treatment, and a cyclotron research laboratory to support international collaborative research in medical and experimental physics, radiation biology, chemistry, and interdisciplinary projects. The premises on the campus of Kutaisi International University will be provided by IBA (Ion Beam Applications SA).
