The problem of brake fluid boiling is simply traced to heat transferring from the rotors and pads directly into the fluid through the caliper pistons. When brake fluid boils, it releases air that is normally part of the molecular structure of the fluid. This air is compressible of course, and the brake pedal goes to the floor instead of moving the caliper pistons. Production cars tend to suffer from this on track days more as they don’t usually have the extensive cooling duct and exotic brake materials as true racing cars.True racing only brake calipers generally come with titanium caliper pistons for one reason. Titanium as a material, has low thermal conductivity. This means that it is very bad at transferring heat. Which is good if you are trying to keep your fluid cool.
The Girodisc solution to help prevent fluid boiling is to use a thin titanium shim placed between the pad back and the pistons, to keep the braking heat from transferring into the pistons and fluid. Here is a comparison of materials and their relative thermal conductivity ratings
Titanium 6AL-4V 6.7 W/mkSteel 52 W/mkAluminum 130 W/mk
You can see that Titanium will transfer far less heat than steel and especially aluminum. For cars that are going to see hard or multiple track days, these shims are cheap protection from loosing the pedal due to boiling at the wrong time and making the day very expensive.
Water jet cut to exact size, no cutting, grinding, or swearing involved.

How to install a foot pad on an EVA mat – Manual
EVA car mats are a modern solution for protecting the car interior from external factors. Despite their durability, worn areas appear near the pedals, which are formed due to the heels of the shoes. To avoid this problem, it is recommended to install the glide on the EVA mat. This can be done by hand in an hour.
Heel plate features
The heel pad is an aluminum plate with a rough surface (or plastic, rubberized, with an unusual frame). On one side there are convex rubber inserts that prevent the foot from slipping while riding. Thanks to the smooth edging and neat corners, the shoes are not damaged.
On average, the length of the product is up to 30 cm, width – up to 20 cm, thickness – no more than 4 mm, but other options can be ordered according to individual requests. The features of the interior of the car are also taken into account. Thrusters are sold only with fasteners or complete with the necessary tools (wrench and hole punch).
Tip! The accessory is inexpensive, so you should not save on it. The better the metal is processed, the longer it will last, not to mention the comfort of use.
Glide installation procedure
- Install the mat in the car. Put your feet on the pedals, while you need to move the heel until it completely covers the material from the impact of the heel. It is necessary to carefully fix the product in the selected position.
- Remove the carpet from the passenger compartment together with the lining. Punch the first hole straight through the overlay using a punch and hammer. Immediately after that, fasten the heel to the EVA mat with one of the fasteners. The same operation is done with the other three holes, after which all fasteners are tightened with a hexagon.
- Check the tightness of the attachment, then place the mat back into the passenger compartment.
After that, the driver’s mat will serve for a long time without the formation of holes and other structural damage through which water can leak and various contaminants can penetrate.
Tips for fitting the escutcheon
- The standard hexagon required is 10 mm.
- If a punch is not included, it must be purchased separately. You cannot use a screwdriver or any other object, since the dimensions of the holes must exactly match the diameter of the fasteners. Otherwise, water may leak through them.
- When choosing the size of the heel, the size of the rider’s foot is taken into account. Installing an overly large plate with sides is not worth it, as it makes the rug heavier and complicates its washing.
- Before starting work, it is important to check the correct position of the car mat in the passenger compartment. If it is initially placed incorrectly, you will have to buy another product, since holes will remain after reinstalling the lining.
The range of thrust bearings is available in both standard and original versions with the logo of the car brand, the first letter of the name or other designation. When replacing the mats, the pad can be unscrewed and transferred to a new set.
Which mat to choose – rubber, polyurethane or textile?
Car floor mats are a necessary accessory. Rugs protect the interior from moisture and dirt, thereby protecting the bottom of the car from corrosion.
Which mat to choose – rubber, polyurethane or textile?
The choice of mat depends on the conditions in which the car is operated and, of course, on the preferences of the car owner. Let’s compare rugs.
Rubber mats
Rubber mats can be divided into 2 types:
Rubber mats with a “Grid” pattern and a side 1-1.5 cm (Eurostandard),
Rubber mats with a high side (3 cm).
In the mats of the first type, water and dirt, falling on the mat, linger in the mesh cells, not rolling over the carpet, and not falling on the floor of the cabin, despite the low side of the carpet. When driving or parking on a slope, moisture due to the low side can get under the mat.
In the mat of the second type, a high side better protects the interior floor from moisture, but with a large amount of moisture, puddles can form on the rug and this spoils the appearance of the interior.
Rubber mats lie tightly on the floor of the passenger compartment due to the large weight, anti-skid spikes and holes (through and non-through eyelets) provided for some car models.
Advantages of rubber mats:
- low price,
easy to wash.
The Avtodriver and Seintex rubber mats presented in our store (with a side and with a “Grid” pattern) are made of high quality rubber, they are elastic and frost-resistant (they do not tan down to -30 degrees).
Disadvantages of rubber mats:
- heavy, the weight of a set of carpets reaches 8 kilograms,
- new products may have a peculiar “rubber” smell, especially when the temperature rises,
- do not withstand low temperatures, tan and become brittle,
- are available in black only.
Polyurethane mats
Polyurethane mats are more modern, look like rubber mats with a high side, but have better performance characteristics.
Polyurethane is an environmentally friendly material that combines the best qualities of rubber and polymers.
Benefits of polyurethane mats:
Compared to rubber mats, polyurethane mats:
- more elastic,
- stronger,
- do not change their qualities when the temperature changes from +55 to -55 degrees C,
- do not have unpleasant odors,
- more than 2 times lighter than rubber,
- are available in three colors: black, gray and beige, which will allow you to match the floor mats to the color of the interior upholstery,
- lie tightly in the cabin, as the mats are made taking into account a certain brand of car and the shape of the mats exactly matches the configuration of the passenger compartment floor, they do not slip, and they have fasteners for more reliable fixation.
Weaknesses:
- price, polyurethane mats are more expensive than rubber ones.
In our store you can buy Norplast polyurethane mats.
Textile mats
All modern textile rugs have an upper pile layer and a rubberized or polymer base with an anti-slip coating.
Textile rugs are produced in two types:
ordinary textile,
Textile 3D rugs.
Textile 3D mats appeared with the development of modern technologies of 3D scanning and volumetric computer modeling and are gaining more and more popularity among drivers and car owners.
Textile 3D mats are three-dimensional troughs without cutouts, exactly repeating all the outlines of the floor and the lower part of the cabin with a side height of 3 cm, which protects the interior floor from moisture better than rubber and polyurethane rugs.
Textile 3D rugs have a three-layer structure:
- Top pile,
- The middle layer is a foam base that performs several functions: waterproofing, thermal insulation and shaping the mat,
- The bottom layer is an anti-slip film.
The pile of all rugs absorbs water well, is easy to clean and wash, and dries quickly enough (20-30 minutes). Pile mats do not have any smells, decorate and give the car interior a special cosiness.
If 3D pile mats can be used all year round and in any weather, then ordinary textile mats are recommended for use in dry summer weather, as they are flat and without sides. Some drivers place these moisture-absorbing textile mats on top of high-sided rubber mats, thereby improving the appearance of the cabin (there are no puddles under the feet of the driver and passengers) and making it easier to keep the interior clean in snowy winters, since the textile mats are easily removed (they are light in weight) and can be washed and dried in a warm room.
Pile mats on the driver’s seat have a so-called thrust pad to increase strength and durability. On various models of rugs, the thrust pad can be laid on with Velcro, soldered or glued polyurethane and metal.
3D mats usually have a polyurethane or metal heel.
Textile 3D floor mats of the new Satori series have three thrust pads in the driver’s seat.
Textile mats are available in three colors: black, gray and beige.
The edges of textile mats can be finished with polypropylene thread or strong PVC tape.
Prices – from budget, comparable to the prices of rubber mats, to expensive ones with carpet (tufted technology), produced specifically for expensive car brands.
In our store you can buy Petex, Norplast textile mats and 3D textile mats from Seintex, Sotra, Satori and Pradar.
Benefits of 3D textile mats:
- decorate the interior of the car, give comfort and coziness
- robust
- wear-resistant, with metal or polyurethane heel,
- protect the cabin floor from dirt and moisture better than rubber and polyurethane carpets,
- light,
- easy to use, easy to clean with a brush or vacuum, easy to clean, fast drying,
- are inexpensive in the budget price segment.
Disadvantages of textile mats:
- drying time required (20-30 min),
- can be wiped on areas of constant contact with shoes,
- mats must be cleaned frequently and thoroughly to maintain their beauty.
Russia is a large country with different weather and social conditions, and where there are few good asphalt roads and a lot of dirt, it is unreasonable to use textile mats even in expensive cars, and in urban conditions in good cars, 3D textile mats will decorate and give a special gloss to the car interior.
So which rugs should you choose?
Rubber mats with a side, familiar to Russian car owners, are the cheapest, but also the heaviest.
Mesh rubber mats are made from rubber with special additives, so these mats are more durable and wear-resistant than rubber mats with a high rim. These rugs are a bit more expensive.
More modern polyurethane mats are lighter than rubber, have better performance characteristics and are indispensable in harsh climatic conditions, as they can withstand temperatures in the range from -55 to +55 degrees.
