UNCW women’s basketball full 2021-22 schedule released, includes visit to Duke
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The UNCW women’s basketball team’s schedule is set for the 2021-22 season.
After going 7-14 last season, the Seahawks will begin the new season against Division II opponent Mount Olive on Wednesday, November 10 at 7 p.m. at home in Trask Coliseum.
The UNCW women’s basketball team is led by fifth-year head coach Karen Barefoot.
UNCW athletics sent out a press release, including these notes regarding the women’s basketball schedule:
- The Seahawks will face four 2020-21 non-conference opponents again this season, including contests against Campbell, Norfolk State, UNCG and Mercer. UNCW went 2-2 against the quartet last year.
- UNCW makes its first visit to Duke since the 2015-16 campaign when the Seahawks and Blue Devils square off on Nov. 14 at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The teams were slated to play last season before Duke canceled its campaign.
- Maryland welcomes the Seahawks to Xfinity Center on Nov. 18, marking the first meeting between the two teams since Dec. 29, 2009, when the Terrapins claimed a 67-61 verdict over UNCW.
- Campbell and UNCW renew their series for the 50th time when the teams meet in Buies Creek on Nov. 23. The Camels hold a 32-17 advantage in the series after securing a 70-57 victory in last year’s encounter at Trask Coliseum.
- UNCW plays host to Coastal Carolina at Trask Coliseum on Nov. 20, marking the third time in the last five years the Seahawks and Chanticleers have faced each other. The Seahawks are 23-7 all-time over Coastal Carolina, but the Chanticleers have won the last two pairings.
- Radford returns to the schedule for the first time since 2007-08 when the Highlanders visit the Port City on Nov. 27. The Seahawks are 3-0 all-time against Radford in Wilmington.
- The Seahawks visit Winthrop for the first time since Nov. 19, 1999, when the teams tangle in Rock Hill, S.C., on Dec. 1. The visiting team has won all four of the previous meetings.
- UNCW aims for its sixth straight win vs. Norfolk State on Dec. 16.
- The Seahawks, who host East Carolina on Dec. 19, have won four of the last five installments against the Pirates, but trail the series by a 32-25 margin.
- UNCW closes out the non-conference schedule with a pair of Southern Conference opponents, traveling to UNCG on Dec. 22 and Mercer on Dec. 28. The Seahawks split a pair of games last year against the two foes, edging the Spartans, 60-55, before dropping an 87-51 verdict to the Bears in the non-conference finale.

Rape.Lawsuit against Elizabeth II’s son Andrew
An American accused the Duke of York of multiple rape when she was a minor.
A federal court in New York accepted the lawsuit of American Virginia Giuffre, who accused the middle son of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, Prince Andrew, of multiple rape and sexual harassment. Correspondent.net tells the details.
“It’s Not Just A Dirty Sex Story”
US citizen Virginia Giuffre filed a civil lawsuit in federal court in New York against Prince Andrew, accusing Queen Elizabeth II’s second son and third child of repeated rape and sexual harassment in 2001.The plaintiff was then only 17 years old.
Virginia Giuffre, now 38, is one of the victims of American Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sex crimes in 2008. He was found dead in his cell in 2019, on the eve of a second trial, this time for trafficking in minors, in which he faced life in prison.
“This is not just a dirty story about sex. This is a story about the slave trade, about humiliation and about your royal family,” Virginia Giuffre told BBC News.
Virginia Giuffre had previously filed similar charges during her 2014 trial against the U.S. Department of Justice, which aimed to challenge the soft deal she struck with Epstein in 2008.
But this is the first time that she directly blames the Duke of York. According to the complaint, the first forced sex took place in the London home of Epstein’s girlfriend, Gilaine Maxwell. The second is in the New York mansion of a multimillionaire financier. And third, on the private island of a sex merchant in the Caribbean.
Giuffre claims that Gilaine Maxwell gained confidence in her, and then persuaded her to have sex with wealthy people, among whom was the British Prince Andrew.
In the lawsuit, she explains that she was afraid to disobey Epstein and Maxwell “because they had powerful friends and because of their wealth.”
In the middle of last year, the FBI arrested Gilaine Maxwell. She was charged under six counts, four of which relate to her likely involvement in Jeffrey Epstein’s criminal business from 1994 to 1997.
Another two articles are related to the accusations of perjury in a New York court in 2016 regarding this very participation. The maximum term for them in total may be 35 years.
Prince Andrew, 61, has always denied the accusations, without denying his friendship with Epstein. In a controversial 2019 interview on the BBC, in which the prince expressed neither remorse nor sympathy for Jeffrey Epstein’s victims, he said that he had never met this “lady.”
The prince’s relationship with a sex merchant cast a shadow over the royal family, who were forced to remove him from public life. The Duke of York resigned from his honorary post of chancellor at the British University of Huddersfield and resigned from the trusteeship of more than 230 charities.
In January 2020, former attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jeffrey Berman, said that the American authorities had repeatedly tried to interrogate the prince, but that he consistently refused to cooperate with US law enforcement.
Under a court order, investigators from the Manhattan Attorney’s Office are now allowed to interrogate Prince Andrew.
In response to CNN’s request for comment on Giuffre’s suit, Buckingham Palace issued a statement on behalf of the royal family, which, in part, said: “We strongly deny that the Duke of York had any sexual contact or relationship with Virginia Roberts (Giuffre’s maiden name – ed.).
Note that Prince Andrew was also on friendly terms with the founder of the fashion corporation Peter Nygard, who was arrested in 2020 on charges of human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, racketeering and other crimes involving dozens of women and underage girls in the United States, Canada and in the Bahamas.
The media wrote that at the beginning of the 2000s, Prince Andrew was even seen in the billionaire’s mansion in the Bahamas in the company of his then ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.
The 79-year-old fashion designer was detained in mid-December in Winnipeg at the request of the United States as part of a bilateral extradition treaty between the two North American countries. The court refused to release Nygard on bail before the start of the hearings, which will begin in November this year.

A biographical drama about the deliverance of King George VI of Great Britain from stuttering with the help of speech therapist Lionel Log. Albert, Duke of York, second son of King George V of Britain, prepares to take the throne. His older brother abdicates for the sake of a divorced American woman whom he truly loves.Georg (or simply Bertie) has been struggling for years with his stuttering and inability to speak normally in front of a crowd of people. The best doctors in Great Britain can do nothing to help the future king. His wife Elizabeth turns to a little-known Australian speech therapist and amateur actor Lionel Logue. His methods are controversial and can hardly be approved by official science, but they are effective. A friendly relationship develops between the speech master and the monarch.
Story
The British Imperial Exhibition takes place in 1925.At the request of his father, on the day of its closing, Albert (Colin Firth), the Duke of York, the second son of British King George V, speaks to the audience at Wembley Stadium and to radio listeners. At home, everyone just calls him Bertie. The young man stutters terribly and makes huge pauses, which greatly upsets dad.
For the next 9 years, Albert tried to solve his stuttering problems by visiting the best British specialists. None of them could help him. Bertie is tired of stupid methods, he no longer wants to try to cope with his illness.
His wife Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter), on the advice of friends, turns to a little-known Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush). He is an amateur actor and a big fan of Shakespeare, he has no professional pedagogical or speech therapy education. His methods are unorthodox and not very much approved by mainstream science, but they are very effective. He immediately begins calling the Duke Bertie, trying to provide a homely atmosphere for their studies. The person of royal blood is angry that he is called so familiarly.
Soon the Duke of York will become King George VI, and his faithful friend and assistant Lionel Logue will help him to deliver a welcoming speech to his subjects. During the Second World War, the monarch will become a symbol of resistance to fascism; a speech therapist from Australia will play a significant role in the success of his fiery speeches.
With a budget of $ 15 million, the picture earned more than $ 414 million at the worldwide box office.
