Exploring the World of College Fashion: From Classic to Contemporary
College fashion has evolved significantly over the years, transitioning from simple logo tees to a diverse array of stylish and expressive apparel. Today’s college students have more options than ever when it comes to showcasing their school spirit and personal style. This comprehensive guide delves into the exciting world of cool college apparel, exploring current trends, popular brands, and tips for creating the perfect campus wardrobe.
The Evolution of College Fashion
College fashion has come a long way from its humble beginnings. In the early days, students primarily wore simple sweatshirts and t-shirts emblazoned with their school’s logo or mascot. While these classic items still have their place, the modern college wardrobe has expanded to include a wide range of stylish and versatile pieces.
Today’s college students can choose from trendy hoodies, fashionable joggers, chic crop tops, and even designer collaborations that blend high fashion with school pride. This evolution reflects the changing attitudes towards personal expression and the growing importance of style in campus life.
Top Brands Dominating the College Apparel Scene
Several brands have emerged as leaders in the college apparel market, offering a mix of quality, style, and school spirit. Here are some of the top names to look out for:
- Champion: Known for their classic sweatshirts and comfortable basics
- Nike: Offers a wide range of athletic wear and casual apparel
- Under Armour: Specializes in performance gear and stylish activewear
- Hype and Vice: Focuses on trendy and unique college-themed designs

These brands have successfully tapped into the college market by combining quality materials, innovative designs, and a deep understanding of student preferences.
Spotlight on Hype and Vice
Hype and Vice has gained significant popularity among college students for its unique approach to campus fashion. The brand focuses on creating trendy, eye-catching designs that go beyond traditional college apparel. Their collections often feature bold graphics, playful slogans, and contemporary cuts that appeal to fashion-conscious students.
One of Hype and Vice’s strengths is its ability to blend school spirit with current fashion trends. For example, they might offer cropped hoodies with holographic school logos or tie-dye sweatshirts featuring mascot designs. This innovative approach has helped the brand carve out a niche in the competitive college apparel market.
Essential Pieces for a Stylish College Wardrobe
Building a versatile and stylish college wardrobe doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are some essential pieces that every student should consider:
- Comfortable hoodies for layering
- Soft, breathable t-shirts for everyday wear
- Stylish joggers or sweatpants for lounging and casual outings
- A classic denim jacket for a touch of collegiate cool
- Versatile sneakers that can transition from class to social events
- A statement piece, like a vintage-inspired varsity jacket
- Accessories such as caps, beanies, or scarves to show school spirit
By investing in these key items, students can create numerous outfit combinations that are both comfortable and stylish.
Mixing and Matching for Versatile Looks
The key to maximizing a college wardrobe is learning to mix and match different pieces. For example, a simple college logo tee can be dressed up with a blazer and jeans for a more polished look, or paired with joggers and sneakers for a casual, sporty vibe. Experimenting with different combinations allows students to express their personal style while still showing school pride.
Trending Styles in College Apparel
College fashion is constantly evolving, with new trends emerging each season. Some of the current popular styles include:
- Oversized hoodies and sweatshirts
- Crop tops and high-waisted bottoms
- Retro-inspired designs and color blocking
- Tie-dye and ombre patterns
- Athleisure wear that blends comfort and style
- Sustainable and eco-friendly options
These trends reflect broader fashion movements while incorporating elements of school spirit and campus culture.
The Rise of Sustainable College Apparel
Sustainability has become an increasingly important factor in college apparel. Many students are now seeking eco-friendly options that align with their values. Brands are responding by offering products made from recycled materials, organic cotton, or produced through sustainable manufacturing processes. This shift towards sustainability not only benefits the environment but also allows students to make more conscious fashion choices.
Customization and Personalization in College Wear
Personalization has become a significant trend in college apparel, allowing students to create unique pieces that truly reflect their individuality. Many brands now offer customization options, from adding names and numbers to choosing specific color combinations.
Some popular customization trends include:
- Custom embroidery on sweatshirts and jackets
- Personalized jersey numbers and names
- Mix-and-match color options for logos and designs
- Create-your-own graphic tees featuring school-related imagery
This level of personalization allows students to stand out while still maintaining a connection to their school community.
The Role of Technology in Customization
Advancements in technology have made customization more accessible and affordable. Many brands now offer online design tools that allow students to visualize their custom creations before purchasing. Additionally, techniques like digital printing and on-demand production have reduced the cost and time associated with creating personalized apparel, making it a viable option for more students.
Dressing for Campus Events and Traditions
College life is filled with various events and traditions, each with its own unofficial dress code. Understanding how to dress for these occasions can help students feel more connected to their school community.
Game Day Fashion
Game days are prime opportunities for students to showcase their school spirit. Popular game day looks often include:
- Face paint in school colors
- Jerseys or replica uniforms
- Themed accessories like foam fingers or pom-poms
- Comfortable yet stylish shoes for standing and cheering
Many students opt for a balance between comfort and style, choosing items like fashionable hoodies or trendy crop tops in school colors.
Formal Events and Ceremonies
For more formal campus events, such as award ceremonies or alumni gatherings, students might choose to incorporate subtle nods to their school while maintaining a polished appearance. This could include:
- Ties or bow ties in school colors
- Subtle logo cufflinks or jewelry
- Blazers with school crest buttons
- Elegant scarves featuring school colors or patterns
These touches allow students to express their school pride in a sophisticated manner.
The Influence of Social Media on College Fashion
Social media platforms have significantly impacted college fashion trends and purchasing habits. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok have become virtual runways for students to showcase their campus style and discover new trends.
Instagram and the Rise of #CollegeFashion
Instagram has become a hub for college fashion inspiration. Students often use hashtags like #CollegeFashion or #CampusStyle to share their outfits and discover new ideas. Many college apparel brands have also leveraged Instagram influencers to promote their products, partnering with students who have large followings to showcase their latest collections.
TikTok’s Impact on Trend Cycles
TikTok has accelerated the pace of fashion trends, including those in college apparel. Viral challenges and trends on the platform can quickly influence what students are wearing on campuses across the country. For example, a TikTok trend featuring a particular style of college sweatshirt can lead to a surge in demand for that item almost overnight.
Budgeting for College Apparel: Tips and Tricks
Building a stylish college wardrobe doesn’t have to break the bank. Here are some tips for students looking to maximize their apparel budget:
- Take advantage of student discounts offered by many brands
- Shop during off-season sales for better deals
- Consider second-hand options from thrift stores or online marketplaces
- Invest in versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched
- Look for quality over quantity to ensure longevity of items
- Participate in campus events that offer free or discounted apparel
By following these strategies, students can build a diverse and stylish wardrobe without overspending.
The Value of Investment Pieces
While it may be tempting to opt for the cheapest options available, investing in a few high-quality pieces can be more cost-effective in the long run. A well-made college sweatshirt or jacket, for example, can last for years and become a cherished memento of the college experience. When choosing investment pieces, look for durable materials, classic designs, and versatile styles that can be worn in various settings.
Beyond Clothing: Accessories and Dorm Decor
College apparel extends beyond just clothing. Many students express their school spirit through accessories and dorm room decor. Popular items in this category include:
- Backpacks and laptop cases with school logos
- Bedding sets in school colors
- Wall art featuring campus landmarks or mascots
- Desk accessories like mouse pads or pen holders
- Drinkware such as water bottles or coffee mugs
These items allow students to surround themselves with school spirit even when they’re not wearing college-branded clothing.
Creating a Cohesive College-Themed Living Space
When decorating a dorm room or apartment, students can create a cohesive look by choosing a color scheme based on their school colors and incorporating various college-themed elements. This might include framed prints of campus scenes, throw pillows with the school logo, or a vintage pennant banner. The key is to balance school spirit with personal style to create a space that feels both collegiate and individual.
College apparel has evolved into a diverse and exciting market, offering students numerous ways to express their school spirit and personal style. From trendy brands like Hype and Vice to classic staples and customized pieces, the options are virtually endless. By understanding current trends, exploring different styles, and shopping strategically, students can create a college wardrobe that is both fashionable and functional. Whether cheering in the stands on game day or studying in the library, today’s college students have the opportunity to showcase their school pride in style.

“Our meeting was like an unexpected flash” – FiNE NEWS
Appearance of the Italian diva and reckless, adventurous character. Anastasia Todorescu was not afraid to start her acting career at almost thirty and today she is already proud of her well-known projects, as well as being the muse and colleague of director Karen Oganesyan.
– Anastasia, if you start with the most relevant, then your high-profile premiere of the series “Cat” was recently held …
– Yes, my heroine Oksana Koshkina, nicknamed Koshka, works in the Investigative Committee and investigates the case of missing children, simultaneously revealing the secrets of her past life. She is obsessed, very empathic, principled, deep, strong in spirit, not indifferent. When I read the script, I sat silent for a long time, understanding the scale of the tragedy. “Cat” is a drama about broken destinies, relationships, about difficult choices that have consequences and can affect not only your life, but also the lives of other people. We’ve got an exciting detective story, with a great team — Daniil Vorobyov, Pavel Chinarev, Ekaterina Vilkova, Vadim Andreev, Alena Khmelnitskaya. The tape was presented at the Moscow International Film Festival. In addition, together with Nikita Efremov and Olga Medynych, I am filming in the project of one of the video platforms “Sharp Change”, I play an English teacher. I hope that after this series, viewers, big and small, will want to read, and someone else will want to re-read Russian classics. I get excited about stuff like this. It’s interesting when you test yourself, learn new things. Thanks to my profession, I have mastered horseback riding, archery and firearms. In life, I am not extreme at all – I am as careful as possible, but in work, if I know that the risk is justified and necessary, I do everything that is necessary. But I need strong motivation. For example, in the TV series “The Game of Survival”, we jumped from helicopters into icy rivers, flew on airplanes with an open door, approaching the very edge … Everything was real there. For an unsportsmanlike person who was engaged in ballroom dancing only in childhood, the load turned out to be decent. But I’m happy with the result – it turned out spectacular.
— You are from the hero city of Volgograd. Tell about your family.
— Oh, I love my city! I fondly remember walks along the embankment, company trips on a boat to separate sparsely populated islands on the Volga, where they fried fish and crayfish. I lived on Spartanovka, next to the hydroelectric power station, closer to the city of Volzhsky. My parents are the most ordinary people, they have nothing to do with cinema. But as long as I can remember, I always dreamed of a profession related to acting. I didn’t want to think about anything else. Therefore, she went to dances – she saw herself only on stage, in the cinema. At the same time, she did not analyze her appearance – whether it was spectacular or not, but only felt from the inside that it was mine – to give people joy. My character has always been mischievous, cheerful, active, I made everyone laugh, and when school productions were planned, I agreed to play only the main roles. (Smiling.)
— I feel a leader nature…
— I am sociable, open. She made friends with both boys and girls. We rushed around the yards, jumped from garages into the sand, played hide-and-seek, Cossack robbers, jump ropes, rubber bands. It was a great time without gadgets. (Smiling.) And I could play with everyone together, or I could retire. I remember coming home from school, closing the door to my room, seating toys, fantasizing… It was the realization of my creative needs. And how I liked to go on tour with our dance studio! The rehearsals were a boring routine, but the performances were a real treat: a beautiful dress, shoes and this exciting drive … But one day my wonderful partner said that he was leaving because he wanted to box. Thus the dancing ended. But there was a theater club in high school. I was not particularly concentrated on my studies, although I studied at the best school in Volgograd. The only thing she singled out was literature, Russian and English. I have linguistic abilities, and, in principle, I am not indifferent to languages. Maybe because a lot of blood flows in me – Russian, Greek, Bulgarian.
– Oh, you must be a passionate, amorous girl …
– I have a passionate nature, of course! (Smiles.) But I rather came up with images for myself, I was fascinated by them. This gave me inspiration. I remember that at the age of six or seven I liked a guy from a neighboring entrance, named Seryozha, who at that time was eighteen years old. (Laughs.) He walked with a radio tape recorder on his shoulder, to the song “Ko-ko-jumbo”, and I sat on a bench and watched him go. And at that age I was in love with Vlad Stashevsky – here I was dizzy from an abundance of feelings! I even asked my cousin, who was a year older, to write him a letter under my dictation. Of course, I did not have an address, so the message remained in the home archives. (Smiles.) I started to enjoy success from an early age – I remember in the first grade two boys got into a fight, because both wanted to sit at my desk with me. I must have been pretty – my mother sewed elegant dresses for me, braided pigtails. At the same time, since childhood, I was more of a truth-teller than a charming cutie, and this feature greatly interfered with me. It is wise to remain silent somewhere, but, alas, nothing is holding on to me. Apparently, the property of Aries. (Smiling.) If I categorically dislike a person, it’s immediately noticeable to me, I don’t know how to lie. It seems that the actress must be able to pretend, but this is not about me – in the frame, yes, but not in life. With age, this impudence, quick temper, when the phone throws itself at the wall, I muffled, became more restrained and proud of my successes, but, of course, my temperament still remained – nothing to do with it. (Smiling.)
— You graduated from the pop department of the Russian Academy of Theater Arts rather late — at twenty-nine, you literally jumped into the last car…
— That’s right, it happened, I didn’t rush to the capital at sixteen like many others — I was afraid, although I didn’t doubt my own potential. She entered our Volgograd State Institute of Arts and Culture to direct theatrical performances and holidays – the only faculty where acting was taught. Moreover, there was no tendency to directing and producing at that time. Therefore, patience was enough for a year. You see, for me theatre, stage, cinema were some kind of sacred, as if inaccessible pedestal, where only the elite get. Such as Leonov, Yankovsky, Karachentsov, Abdulov, Gurchenko are gifted people, kissed by God. Being in their midst was something out of the realm of fantasy. Yes, and foreign celebrities … I grew up in the nineties, in our family one of the first to have a VCR, dad brought a bunch of cassettes, all my friends gathered, and we got acquainted with the latest film distribution. These films made the strongest impression on me. Some have been reviewed many times. “Where Dreams May Come” literally shocked me. The story, the music, Robbie Williams… I cried. And how good “Titanic”, “Gladiator”, “True Lies” with the incredible dance of the main character . .. Frankly, I had a long prelude to the profession. By the way, GITIS was not enough for me, and then I further improved my qualifications at the Academy of Cinema. The fact is that in our theater universities they don’t tell anything about the real film industry, how this world works, how to behave on the set, stay in the frame, and this is extremely important. In fact, only practice teaches. And I’m lucky that at thirty-four years old I have been filming quite actively for several years.
– Your spouse is an ideal director. You met Karen Hovhannisyan on the action movie Hero, right?
— Yes, our meeting was like an unexpected flash, when it is clear from the very beginning that people need each other. We have a lot in common – cinema for both of us is not a job, but a real pleasure and an integral part of life. We talk about this topic both at home and on vacation. And I’m glad that we have all the projects together. Of course, some do without my participation (smiles), but this only means that I would not be in my place there. The role still has to be organic. Karen knows what I can do and I am pleased with such a successful collaboration.
– Perhaps it blocks other directors from reaching you…
– Why? I am open to suggestions, if there is a script with a curious history, then why not. But in general, I am satisfied with my creative life, as I am already working with one of the best directors in the country, in my opinion. By the way, I admire him not because he is my favorite person, he is a really cool professional. Karen is a subtle psychologist who is well versed in people, notices all the little things, the nuances of feelings, which is why she is so attentive to the actors. Moreover, he is so in love with his work, fanatically devoted to him – an absolute workaholic that this cannot but bribe. Believe it or not, he doesn’t even arrange weekends for himself, and when we find ourselves in a resort, and walks along the beach with a phone, solving work issues, he lies on a lounger with a laptop. I do not oppose it – I see that it is good for him.
— Do you know how to switch?
– I am – yes. I love to eat delicious, swim, sunbathe, read, play sports, being distracted from worries. I am not one of those who, in the heat, without really enjoying the sea, rushes on excursions. And a special buzz in the evening to watch the latest domestic and foreign cinema. We are both moviegoers and we don’t miss anything – we watch, we discuss. Karen is also a very ironic person, he likes all sorts of humorous programs.
– Is it true that he calls you “titiyard”?
– This is our secret – the magic code. I call him the same. We even made sweatshirts for ourselves with this word.
– Before you, Hovhannisyan was married and has two children. How did your relationship develop with them?
– Great. I generally have a wonderful relationship with my husband’s family. Together we fly to Armenia, to Gyumri, to Karen’s parents. They are incredibly kind and caring people, we love spending time together. We also visit Yerevan, I discovered this hospitable, soulful country.
— Is Karen jealous as an Armenian man?
– He has an explosive nature, like me, however. We are both violent temperaments, and the fact that he is eleven years older than me does not offset this in any way. But her husband has a strong character, he is a self-confident person, so we don’t have any scenes of jealousy. Moreover, we are from the same field of activity and speak the same language. It is people of another profession who have to explain why the shift is delayed or why they need to work at night, and the chance of a serious conflict on this basis is very likely. We don’t have such problems.
– Did you have a big wedding?
– The wedding was very beautiful, we sailed on a cruise ship on the Moscow River. But since there was a period of coronavirus, unfortunately, not all invited guests were able to get to us, for example, Karen’s parents and sister and family. But we called them via video link so that they could somehow be with us, share happy moments. Karen also proposed to me in a very romantic way on the set of Passengers. He took advantage of the moment between takes – and suddenly got down on one knee, took out a ring … Imagine: I’m in character – in a pink wig, a white curly fur coat, completely dumbfounded by everything, and he still hurries: “Decide quickly, my knee hurts!” (Laughs) But, after all, Karen is a master of drama.
– Did the future husband court you beautifully?
– Not standard. Once, he even organized a fireworks especially for me. Even before the pandemic, we flew to Naples to celebrate my birthday. We settled in a hotel with a wonderful view of the sea, sat on the balcony, watching the graduates who celebrated graduation that evening, everyone was cheerful, with wreaths on their heads, and then suddenly, right in front of a magnificent fireworks. I laugh, I shout that this is how everything came together, all of Italy is celebrating my birth. I mean, I didn’t even realize that Karen had arranged this for me. You know, I’m such a person – I don’t think that someone owes me anything, that the whole world should revolve around my person … And only the next day, at lunch, Karen asked: “Didn’t you understand that it was in honor of you, really?” And here I already experienced a firework of emotions. By the way, there were still cases when my husband gave surprises, but I did not immediately catch up. (Smiling.) My husband is generous – there is something to remember. His gifts are always valuable and unusual. In general, he is a real man – reliable, intelligent, energetic.
– And you are his muse, apparently…
– I hope so. (Smiling.) I believe that we have a lot of joint projects of different genres ahead. I am ready and always grateful for what is given to me from above. I am ambitious by nature, I dream of playing a huge number of interesting roles that will “ignite” me, but at the same time I do not greedily chase everything in a row, I am sure that mine will not leave me. As my Karen Levonovich rightly says, credits are written in heaven.
– Do you call your spouse by patronymic?
– On the set – a must. And he calls me Andreevna. It seems to me so right. Although, sometimes, something affectionate jumps out of me, but I pull myself up, I don’t allow such familiarities at work. (Smiling.) Moreover, the requirements for me are increased, there are no discounts, pity.
— You were lucky to work next to such figures as Mashkov, Stoyanov, Petrov, Vernik, Chadov, Khodchenkova… Was it difficult?
— Since the main struggle with myself was left behind, I was in the moment, and even if I was worried, it only added tone. It’s easy with the pros, especially since we were all on the same wavelength.
— Do you have a desire to go on stage?
— I love the theater very much and would love to take part in some good enterprise. I think the theater will definitely come into my life. Everything has its time.
— Do you have any hobbies?
– I tried to get up on mountain skis, I was driving very carefully, without a spark, I was afraid to crash and let down the film crew. She also rode a snowboard, fell so that her whole body was twisted, and abandoned this sport. I miss the Pilates gym. Maybe I’ll get back to dancing. I would love to be on a TV show like this. By the way, dancing on ice is also attractive – I would skate for the sake of the project.
— Tell us how you pamper yourself?
— I love various cosmetic procedures. For me, there is no better relaxation than all these spas, massages, baths with body wraps, treatments with oils and creams. You have no idea how many jars my toilet room can hold! Arriving somewhere on a business trip or on vacation, the first thing I look for is a spa. But I’m more relaxed about buying clothes. I think that things must be stylish and there must be a certain required amount. True, I like to change my image – in the morning a rock star in a leather jacket, and in the evening – a fatal lady in a provocative dress, for example. It all depends on the mood and circumstances.
– Are you at home?
– In moderation. Undoubtedly, I devote a lot of time to my own implementation. I believe that every person, if possible, should find his favorite thing, there is no need to be equal to anyone, but to focus only on himself. As for everyday life, I like to decorate the house, but cooking is more difficult. The signature dish is fried potatoes with mushrooms and onions, which I rarely make. And recently I learned how to bake charlotte. With pleasure I can cook it on the weekend, especially if the family asks. But at the same time I love the suburban lifestyle that we lead – waking up in nature, in the fresh air, walking around the area, riding a bike in the summer. We live with a black and white cat Lyalya, which I picked up eleven years ago, tiny. She hid under the car from the rain and “cried” – I could not pass by. Since then, she has been with us everywhere, she has become my mother’s favorite – they have some kind of special contact. In general, I really love animals. We have always had cats and dogs that we took from the street, and there will probably be more – we always somehow find each other.
