You can make circus posters using pages from any circus coloring book.  Enlarge the pages at an office supply store, and then color them  with craft paint or watercolor crayons; these cover large areas easily.

Also create circus signs with craft paint and poster board. Include wording such as: “Welcome to the Greatest Show on Earth!”, “Under the Big Top!”, or “AMAZING!” Hang the posters on the walls throughout the circus space.

DECORATE WITH  TWIRLERS! A fun craft and nice decoration (and craft)

to hang from ceiling, a window or tree!  Materials: Plastic coffee can lids (Lids come in a variety of colors), marker, scissors, string

• To make one, use a nail to poke a hole in the center of a plastic coffee can lid.
• With a marker, draw a spiral that starts 3/8 inch from the hole (it keeps going around itself in circular pattern) and gradually extends to the rim—then cut along the line with scissors.
• Knot an end of a piece of string, thread the other end up through the hole in the center, and the twirler is ready to hang up and spin.

Fun Circus Themed Games

1.FROG JUMPING GAME

1. Paint the bottom of a large cardboard box (with low sides) blue. The blue is the water.
2. Put some small green paper plates on the ‘water’. These are lily pads.
3. Purchase small toy frogs and have children toss the frogs onto the ‘lily-pads’.

Optional: Put numbers on the pads and add the points up as the frogs land on the pads.

2. THREE LEGGED RACE

It’s best to play on a grassy area or even a sandy beach.
You’ll need:
Old rags or stockings
Cut rags in wide strips – 3 feet long.
Use old stockings; they are softer and have some give to them. Pair up into partners and stand side by side.

Tie one persons left leg to the other player’s right, or vise versa. Practice walking together until you get a rhythm going and then try hopping or running. This can be played as a race or just for active fun.
An obstacle course can be created as well. For a real challenge if it is warm -try adding and avoiding an oscillating sprinkler. Be sure to wear swim suits!
The kids won’t be able to make it without getting wet!

3. CLOWN COSTUME RELAY RACE

Divide players into equal teams.
For each team have a box containing a complete costume, each costume should have the same number of pieces (4 or 5 is fun – Shirt pants, big shoes, huge tie, clown nose, wig or mask, etc.)Anything silly that a clown might wear!
In turn each player must put on the costume and run to a certain point where they take the costumes off and put them back in the box.
They run back to start where the next player repeats the process until one team finishes and wins.

4. TIGHT ROPE WALKING

Do you have a balance beam? If not-using bright colors paint a 2″x4″ piece of lumber. Once dry you have your Tight Rope!

Children can pretend placing one foot in front of the other. Add some fun with props. Can they juglle bean bags while walking or balance a book on their heads?!

5. HOT DOGS

1. Give each player one of three names associated with hot dogs-such as: hot dog, relish, mustard.
2. To start play-call out one ‘hot dog’ word. All players with that name run around the parachute.
3. Call Mushroom (see PARACHUTE GAMES for more info–it’s the act of filling parachute with air) and also an action such as skip or shake hands.
4. Players run under the parachute performing the called out action–while returning to their places.

6. MERRY-GO-ROUND

Turn the body so that the chute is held with only one hand.
Walk, hop, jump, or skip around holding the chute.
It looks like a merry-go-round!

1. With the parachute lowered, players raise their arms (and the chute) as high as possible.
2. Once the chute is high, on a signal-all take  3-4 big steps towards the center.
3. Still holding the chute tightly, children sit down at the edge of the chute-under what should appear to be a cathedral

– All it takes are two big bowls of popcorn and some small cups per team. Have kids run and get a cupful of popcorn and transfer it to the bowl across the room. The first team finished wins. Because of potential popcorn mess, this would be good played outside!

9. CUPCAKE, COOKIE, OR PIE WALK

Players walk in a circle of numbered squares while music plays.
When the music stops, the facilitator chooses the winning numbers from a hat.
Players standing on a winning number get a prize.

TIP: Check with local codes if home-made goods can be used, otherwise use prizes like Hostess Cupcakes, Twinkies, Fruit Pies, or packaged cookies. Often local grocery stores will donate goods, or check with local fast-food outlets for gift certificates for ice cream cones, cookies, etc.

10. BEAN BAG TOSS #1

1. Create a beanbag toss game by using a large sheet of foam board.
2. Decorate it as desired and cut some circles out that are large enough for bean bags to go through.
3. Support the board by propping something behind it.  It could also be propped by taping a hula-hoop to the back-side top and stretching it out at the bottom to stand the board game.
4. Purchase  bean bags or make your own from fabric and dried beans.

11. BEAN BAG TOSS #2– FEEDING THE CLOWN

This is a great activity for kids of all ages! Purchase or make bean bags suitable for tossing and draw a large picture of a clown on a piece of cardboard with its mouth wide open.
Draw and cut out the mouth so you have a hole large enough to toss the bean bags through.
Place the box about ten feet away (adjust distance for the age of your children) and give each child a chance to toss the bean bags into the clowns mouth!

12. LION TAMER

Set up a hula hoop so it stands up securely. The player tries to throw a small stuffed  lion or tiger (or bean bag) through the hoop. Decorate the hoop with colored paper to look like flames.

13. BALLOON STOMP (Win a prize game)

Tuck a prize slip inside a small balloon and then inflate. You can write the name of the prize on the slip or just a number corresponding to a prize. Have lots of prize balloons ready, store in plastic bags. Player chooses a balloon and “stomps” it to pop it and see what their prize will be.

14. KNOCKDOWN THE CANS (Win a prize)

Stack cans in a pyramid. Each player gets to throw one to three balls at the cans. You can use tennis balls, rubber baseballs, or other types of balls for this game. You can decide if they must knock down all or just a few cans to win a prize

15. GUMMY WORM HUNT CONTEST -This one is fun!

Give each child a plate with three gummy worms covered in whipped cream, and a cup.
The first child to find the gummy worms with their mouths and get them into their cup is the winner! No Hands used!!!

IDEA: This can also be adapted to putting whipped cream on a small paper plate. Under the whipped cream put a few m&m’s or a maraschino cherry.  The children must find the hidden goodies  with their mouths. The first to eat the m&m’s or cherry is the winner! Of course, no hands used…Be sure to have your camera ready-a good photo op!

16. JELL-O EATING CONTEST

To prepare, make one small bowl of Jell-O for each child (plus a few extra).
Line the bowls along the ground outside if the weather permits.
If playing inside, lay a tablecloth or other mess protection under the bowls for easier cleanup.
To play, the kids place their hands on the ground beside their bowls and must keep them there throughout the game. When the command is given to start, all players begin eating their bowl of gelatin. The first one to clean his or her bow wins! Optional: Add a dollop of whipped cream to add a little mess!

Spread the apple rings with peanut butter. Stand the animal crackers up around the apple ring to look like a merry-go-round. KIdActivities added a paper umbrella in the center to more resemble a carousel! Because the peanut butter will keep the apples from yellowing–the ‘Merry-Go-Round’ can be admired a bit before eating! CIRCUS THEMED ARTS AND CRAFTS

1. ANIMAL CRACKER MAGNETS

Use plain regular animal crackers. Have children color them with regular markers or paint. You can use clear nail polish and paint over what they have colored after it is dry. Then use a magnet small enough and glue it on the back with a hot gun or other strong glue.… instant magnets you can put on your fridge.

NOTE: KidActivities used tempera paint to color the cookies. Clear nail polish was applied as a glaze when they were dry.( It took about an hour for the animal crackers to dry from the paint.) One cookie/cracker was left natural with only a coating of clear nail polish… they all actually all had a ‘glass-like’ appearance.

The magnetic tape– that is cut off from a roll –is what KidActivities put on the back of the magnets. Because the animal crackers are so small–be sure to get a high-quality magnet. For K-A…the magnets stayed on the whiteboard permanently–much better than the refrigerator.

2. ANIMAL CRACKER PIN

To make this craft project you will need animal crackers, paint, a flat backed pin, clear nail polish or varnish, and some craft glue.

First, paint the animal crackers. After they dry, polish or varnish in a well ventilated area and let them dry. Next glue it to a pin. An option is to only polish/varnish the animal crackers as the one up above– in the image of the magnetic board.

7. ART TABLE COLLAGE

Put out some felt, scraps of fabric, yarn, ribbon, google eys, and pom poms — see what the kids come up with! Maybe something like this?! (I’ve had this sample in my files awhile–but misplaced the ‘source’. 8. LIFE SIZE CLOWNS–Materials

Large sheets of paper (roll paper), markers, crayons, decorations as desired.

Form partners between the children. Have them take turns tracing each others bodies onto the paper. (If children are young an adult may need to trace) Children then color and decorate their tracing as a clown. Cute all lined up around the room or down a hallway!

9. MAKE A CLOWN BANK

Materials: Paper towel tube, cardboard, construction paper, yarn, poster board

1. Tape or glue a round piece of cardboard to each end of a paper towel tube.
2. Cut a slot for the clown’s mouth, Make it large enough for coins to go through.
3. Paint the tube white, Glue on yarn hair and features cut from the paper.

FALL HARVEST CARNIVAL GAMES…

The following are several games that will work for a ‘Harvest Celebration’. If you are looking for ideas to go with a Harvest Theme–there may be some ideas in the ‘Farm and Harvest Category’ that will work for you!

1. PUMPKIN SEED TOSS

Number and line up 5 small baskets or crates; have children stand 3 feet in front of the first crate and toss seeds into the crates in sequence. Small prizes can be given for each of the crates they get their seeds in.

2. CORN HUSKING RACE

Give each child 4 ears of unhusked corn and race to see who can have all of their corn husked first.

3. PUMPKIN WALK

This is like a regular cake walk except instead of numbers, place pictures of several fall items on the floor for the children to walk on and call out the names of the items instead of numbers. Use fall themed music such as “Turkey in the Straw” or “Jimmy Cracked Corn”.

4. FLOATING PUMPKINS

Number the bottom of the small gourds that look like miniature pumpkins and float them in water for the children to choose one for small prizes.

5. MUSICAL BALES

Play musical chairs with bales of straw instead of chairs. A scarecrow in the center makes a fun decoration for this game.

6. TURKEY IN THE STRAW

Fill a wading pool with straw and hide a small picture of a turkey in it for groups to dig through to see who can find it first.

7. THE SQUIRREL GAME –

Let the kids pretend they are squirrels gathering nuts for the winter. Give each a small paper bag, then toss out several unshelled nuts onto the floor and let the kids race to see who can collect the most. Older and younger children should be separated for this game.

Another way to play this game, (if you have a way to corral a large quantity of leaves) is to hide nuts beneath a large pile of leaves and give the kids a set amount of time to find as many nuts as they can.

8. PUMPKIN RACE

Set up starting and finish lines and have the children race to see who can get their pumpkin over the finish line first using only their feet to slide the pumpkins along. No kicking the pumpkins like footballs…

9. PICKING APPLES

A regular sucker pull can become “Apple Picking.” Make a large apple tree with lots of red apples out of construction paper; then connect the tree to the pegboard. Mark the tips of the handles on only a few caramel apple suckers then poke them through the pegboard holes; poke several unmarked suckers around the marked suckers; then let the kids pick an apple. Have prizes ready for those who get the marked suckers, but everyone gets to keep the sucker they pulled.

10. HARVEST DASH (OUTSIDE GAME)

Set up a fall relay with the kids. Fill large containers with sunflower seed-bird feed. (Popcorn would also work) Have smaller, clear containers at the opposite end.

Kids fill up a cup with seed and race to dump it in the empty container. They sprint back to the start and hand-off the cup to the teammates. Goal of the race is to be the first team to fill up the small container with the seeds.
As an extra challenge, give the kids an over-sized soup ladle instead of a cup. Don’t worry if the seeds spill; that’s part of the fun! The birds will easily find them later.

Try a dollar store for inexpensive clear containers. They usually stock plastic ones in apple or pumpkin shapes in the fall.
Popcorn or candy corn also can be used in place of seed.

11. HARVEST BINGO

Make autumn bingo cards using different types of dried seeds and beans. Check out your grocery store or natural foods co-op for plenty of unusual choices. First child to get bingo wins!

Circus Preschool Toddler Theme Summer Camp at Home

We’re scouring the net for the best and most creative ways to make your own Circus themed Summer Camp for preschoolers and toddlers.  We’ve got circus crafts, circus snacks, circus fine motor and gross motor activities to get the summer off to great start. 

Circus Theme Crafts

The kids will love a few circus crafts.  These lion, tiger, and monkey masks (Danya Banya) will keep the kids occupied and pretending. Or try this elephant mask craft (East Coast Mommy) for more pretend play.  For more circus animal crafts, try this activity from Inspired Treehouse.  

Kids will love making a craft a day at your backyard camp.  Make this elephant mask (Mamas Like Me) and they can wear it throughout the week. Children can work on so many important developmental areas while developing their scissor skills.  If painting is more your thing, this lion craft (Sassy Dealz) is a super cute circus animal to make.   Need a few more crafts to keep the kids busy with your circus theme?  I love these circus clown costumes (KangarooBoo blog) made with party hats and paper plates.

Circus Theme Snacks

A backyard summer camp or themed learning unit definitely needs snacks to keep little ones going and energy levels high.  Here’s a few circus themed ideas for snack time:

• Goldfish in a bag (You won goldfish!)

• animal crackers

• popcorn

• Sandwiches cut into fun circus shapes with circus cookie cutters (and then reuse those cookie cutters for stamp art painting later in the week!)


Add these things to a little peanut butter (or other nut butter) for some protein.

Circus Theme Gross Motor Backyard Activities

I know a few little ones who would LOVE this water gun game (Driven By Décor).  Use a few ping pong balls and a squirt gun for an easy (and summer-ific) carnival game. Inspired Treehouse put together put together three gross motor circus activities.  A ball toss game would be easy to set up with a few bins and some bean bags or balls.

CIRCLE TIME

Circle time is ideal for getting children to exercise. Use this time to introduce the week’s theme: the circus. Play the role of the animal trainer. Children are the circus animals. Here are suggestions of thematic exercises. Have children stand and walk together in the same direction around your circle time area. Name a few circus animals. Say, “You are tigers.” Children crawl about like tigers. Say, “You are elephants.” Children walk slowly, stretching out their arms and legs to make themselves as wide as possible. Next, state, “You are beautiful horses.” Have them walk holding their head up high, arms alongside their body. When children are used to the game, have them jump through hoops, raise one leg, etc. Variation: Once children understand the game, give each child a different circus animal to represent. Your circle can have a horse, a tiger, an elephant, etc.

Claudine, one of our collaborators suggests an imaginary game to begin each day.

(Open thematic letter – Pipo the clown) Print the letter. Prepare a shiny envelope. Place the envelope in an easy to find location in the daycare. Read portions of the letter to them each day.

AREA SETUP

(Open thematic poster-circus) Print, laminate, and decorate the walls of your daycare with all kinds of posters. Organize a circus corner. Install mats for trapezists (children can use them to pretend they are acrobats throughout the week). Add balls and scarves for juggling, hoops, makeup, clown costumes, hats, disguises, a mirror, and a clown nose.

VARIOUS CIRCUS WORKSHOPS

Here are a few workshop ideas for this theme.

Building blocks – Construction area: Blanket or parachute to create a large tent.

Role Play: Trains, animals, disguises

Manipulation: Pictures, memory games, animal or clown puzzles

Arts & Crafts: Modeling dough with animal-shaped cookie cutters

Reading: Circus picture books or animal stories

Music and movement: Hoops, scarves, balls, whistle, microphone

PICTURE GAME

The pictures may be used as a memory game or to spark a conversation with the group. Use them to decorate your daycare or a thematic corner. (Open picture game-Circus) Print, laminate, and store in a “Ziploc” bag or in your thematic bins.

MORAL AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

Massage
Children sit two by two. Place mats on the floor. One child lies on the mat on his stomach. The other child uses a ball to massage his back. Play relaxing music throughout the activity.

Makeup
Provide children with makeup pencils and mirrors. Let children paint their own faces to resemble circus animals or clowns.

MOTOR SKILLS

Stilts
Make your own stilts using metal cans. Punch two holes on either side of each can, near the bottom. Measure a piece of rope so it is the appropriate length for children. Thread one end of the rope into each hole and secure with a knot. To walk on stilts, children stand on the cans, holding the rope in their hands. It’s not easy, children will need practice! (Verify that the edge of the can is not sharp, add masking tape for extra protection.)

Lions
Have lions jump through hoops. This activity may be done indoors or outdoors. Children stand single file and hop, one at a time, through the hoop you are holding for them. Once all have had a turn, raise the hoop. Add words of encouragement such as, “Come my beautiful lions!” Continue raising the hoop, then alternate between high and low.

Elephant trainer
One child plays the role of the trainer and stands with his back to the rest of the group at the opposite end of the daycare. The rest of the children are elephants who move in a line towards their trainer. From time to time, the trainer turns around. The elephants must immediately freeze. If an elephant moves, the trainer names him, and the child must sit down until the next round.

Tight rope walker
Stretch a long rope out on the floor. Invite children to imagine the rope is high up in the air. Children walk barefoot on the rope. They mustn’t put their two feet beside the rope if they do not want to fall! There are different ways to walk on the rope. Have them walk backwards, hop on the rope, and crawl on the rope.

COGNITIVE ACTIVITIES

Circus memory game
(Open games – Circus memory game) Print cards twice. The cards may be laminated or put in small “Ziploc” bags to protect them. Place cards face down on the floor. One at a time, children pick two cards. If they match, they keep the cards and play again. If the cards do not match, they must replace the cards. Their turn is over.

EARLY SCIENCE

Balance
Build a tower of objects or have children walk while balancing an object on their head.

CULINARY ACTIVITIES

You be the judge of how sweet you will go depending on the age group under your care. At the circus, there are sweets galore! Small bags of popcorn, candy apples, cotton candy, and sausages are examples of treats you can enjoy. Try turning your kitchen area into a sweet treats canteen. Children can choose their favourite item!

Clown pizza lunch

Prepare a round pizza for each child. Create a clown face using vegetables for eyes, a nose, and a mouth. Add spaghetti for the clown’s hair.

Clown surprise

For each child, put one scoop of ice cream in a bowl. Add an upside down cone on top of the scoop. Have children create their clown faces (the scoop) using small candy.

ARTS & CRAFTS

Hat model
(Open model – Circus hat) Print and trace onto coloured cardboard. Have children cut out and decorate their circus hats. Measure children’s heads and staple closed.

Clown nose
Provide children with Styrofoam balls to paint and decorate with sparkles. Thread string on a needle and push through the ball. Tie behind children’s heads.

COMPLIMENTARY ACTIVITY: A DAY AT THE CIRCUS

A day at the circus

Material:

Makeup, costumes, jumping rope, hoola hoops, balls, soft balls, mats, balance beam, balancing pole, parachute, ribbons and balloons for decorating, musical instruments. Use a parachute to create a big top. Decorate with ribbons, streamers, and balloons. Create a balance beam with a 2 x 4 and cover it with red adhesive tape. Cover a long stick with red adhesive tape too. Use it as a balancing pole. Children can walk like tightrope walkers. Provide mats for clowns and acrobats. Lion tamers can make use of the hoola hoops.

Set the stage:

Emily was going to spend the day at the circus with her friends. When they arrived, they were told that all six clowns were sick and that they could not be in the show. Emily and her friends thought that, if they practiced, they could be the clowns in the next day’s show.

INTERVENTION GUIDELINES

Daily Circus Activities

• WARM UPS: Safety is our number one priority and that includes warming up our bodies to prepare for all the jumping, bending, twisting and contorting the kids will do throughout the day.
• CORE CLASSES: After warm-ups, campers are split into mixed groups of age, gender and skill to rotate between the four core classes of Acrobatics, Juggling, Aerials and Performance.
• CHOICE ROTATIONS: In the afternoon, campers get to choose from a variety of circus classes that change from day to day and that give campers the opportunity to try out new tricks or to work harder on skills they already love. Our supportive coaches and counselors will assist each camper with working toward their individual goals in a fun and friendly team setting.

• Each dorm has several common areas and is decorated with historical circus memorabilia and props from past Circus Smirkus shows.
• Our kitchen and culinary team work around the clock to provide healthy meals using as many quality, locally sourced ingredients as we can find. Your kids will be very active and challenging their bodies daily so food fit to feed circus athletes is paramount to our mission!

Who doesn’t love a circus theme?  The circus theme makes it easy to incorporate gross motor and fine motor skills.    What kid doesn’t love the idea of a circus or carnival?  Implementing circus themed activities for kids into your gross motor or fine motor activities doesn’t have to be hard.  Check out all of the different circus themed activities!

Circus Themed Activities For Kids

All of the following activities are a great way to incorporate gross motor and fine motor skills  into Circus Activities!  The following is a run down of a ton of great circus activities for an entire week of motor planning.

Start off your week with Circus  Yoga!  This is a fun and silly way to move little bodies with a circus theme!  Not only are their yoga poses, but also great partner poses and fun games included in these ideas!

How about some circus tricks?  Using hula hoops to work on motor skills is a fun way to work on gross motor skills with a circus theme.

Think about all of the different ways you could step through the hoop?  Forward, backward, sideways, crawling etc are great ways to get started working on motor skills.  Add some streamers to create a flaming hoop.

Silly relays are the perfect activities for your carnival or circus theme!

The over sized shoe or clown shoe relay is a fun circus themed activity that incorporates movement.   Don’t be afraid to try some partner relays as well.

The beach ball and pool noodle relay is perfect for team work and your carnival or circus theme.   You can read about all of the different individual and partner relay races for kids ideas.  These all go really well in a circus theme!

How about a fun digital game!?! This game can be played on a computer, tablet, or interactive whiteboard. Work on one to one correspondence while moving! This is such a fun activity for both in person and distance learning. 

Circus themed movement cards are fast and easy to use.  They let the kids interpret the simple movements written on the cards.  They are FREE to you to use in the freebie library.

This World Circus Day, let’s rediscover our love for the circus with some Circus crafts and activities for kids. Make your own tent, performers and animals!

There are some joys of our childhood that our kids seem to be missing out on, and one of them is the joy of going to the circus! The circus was an event we looked forward to a lot, and the acts were short, simple and hilarious!

Somehow kids today don’t seem as excited about circuses as we were, probably since they’re too busy staring at screens. But it’s time to change all that, especially since its World Circus Day on 20th April!

This World Circus Day, let’s rediscover our love for the circus with our kids, with some Circus crafts and activities. 

Kids Activities Blog shows us how to make some cute clowns using wooden sticks. This multimedia craft uses various supplies – buttons, paper, yarn, pom poms and more!

Strong men are one of the main attractions of the circus and this craft from Pink Stripey Socks proves it! Make these men using cardboard and have fun moving them around!

What’s a circus without the trapeze! Aunt Annie brings the trapeze to life in this awesome craft using regular craft supplies and a full downloadable template. The performers all look so realistic!

Our Five Ring Circus: Beach Themed Kids Activities

Happy Tuesday, my friends! I can’t believe it, but this is officially our final week of Camp Mom. When I came up with the idea I never expected to make it through the entire Summer, but we made it 10 weeks! 50 incredibly fun kids activities are now documented on my blog!

It was a LOT of work, but such a great experience. Lexie keeps telling me that I’m the coolest mom ever because I did so many fun things with them this Summer. She’s on the verge of the tween years and being annoyed by me, so all that hard work and dedication to our Summer project was well worth it!

Our final week of Camp Mom was definitely our favorite. We decided to have a week full of beach themed activities to prepare us for our beach vacation in a few days.  Trust me when I say that the activities this week are the coolest!

Here’s a recap of our final week of Camp Mom kids activities: 

Jellyfish in a Jar – Camp Mom Day 46 

My mom posted this activity on my Facebook wall years ago but we never got the chance to try it. I knew it would be perfect for our beach theme!

Supplies:

• Empty Water Bottle with the label removed (I like Voss water bottles)
• Water
• Food Coloring
• Scissors and Thread
• Clear Bread Storage Bags (a fold top sandwich bag would work for a smaller version)

Directions:

1.  Fill the empty water bottle with water. 
2. Add a drop of blue food coloring and shake to disperse.
3. Grab the sandwich bag and make a jellyfish head by bunching the closed end together. (It should look like a ghost.) 
4. Tie a thread loosely around the “neck.” The hole needs to remain slightly open right now so you can fill it with a little bit of water and air.
5. Make tentacles by trimming the end of the bag with the scissors. You can also trim the bottom a bit so it fits inside the water bottle.
6. Fill the head half full with water, blow in some air and close the hole tightly with the thread.
7. Drop your jellyfish into the water bottle, seal the lid tightly and watch it float around as you flip and turn the bottle.

The end result is really cool!

Puffy Paint Sand Castles – Camp Mom Day 47 

This craft is very similar to the puffy paint ice cream cones we made a few weeks ago. The kids love puffy paint so much that we had to do it again with a beach twist!

Supplies:

• Construction Paper
• White School Glue (4 oz)
• Shaving Cream
• Sand
• Paint Brushes
• Shells

 Directions:

1. Empty the glue into a bowl, squirt in an equal amount of shaving cream and blend together. 
2. Start pouring in sand by the handful until you get the desired consistency. We used a lot! 
3. Paint a sandcastle onto the construction paper. Make sure to use a thick layer of sandy puffy paint!
4. Decorate the sand castle with shells by pressing them gently into the puffy paint. 
5. Lay flat to dry.

Puffy paint is always a hit with my kids and they loved this beach-themed project!

Under the Sea Graham Crackers – Camp Mom Day 48 

 

I planned this activity back in the Spring and it must be a popular idea! Lily went to a birthday party recently and received a similar one as a favor. She ate it before her siblings could see it, so they still had fun making this snack!

Supplies:

• Graham Crackers
• Blue Frosting
• Baby Goldfish
• Nerds

Directions:

1. Spread a thick layer of blue frosting on a graham cracker.  
2. Sprinkle a handful of Nerds on the bottom.
3. Decorate with Baby Goldfish (or Swedish Fish).

This was an easy snack to make and all of my kids loved it!

Sand Slime – Camp Mom Day 49 

Our slime recipe is very quick and easy to make. We wanted to see what happened when we added sand to it!

Supplies:

• 1/2 tsp Borax 
• 1/2 cup Water
• 4 oz white glue
• Two bowls and a spoon to mix
• Sand

Directions:

1. Mix 1/2 tsp Borax (found in the laundry aisle) in 1/2 cup warm water. 
2. Empty bottle of glue into separate bowl. 
3. Pour Borax mixture into glue and begin to knead the slime.
4. Add the sand by the handful as you knead the slime in the borax solution. Repeat until you get the desired texture.

It turned out to be a neat hybrid of slime and dough. The kids thought it felt like textured Flubber!

DIY Aqua Sand – Camp Mom Day 50

This activity was voted the most favorite in Camp Mom history!  I actually agree with my kids. It was really neat to watch!

Supplies:

•  Sand (I bought colored sand from Dollar Tree)
• Large Container
• Scotch Guard Fabric Protector
• Cups
• Foil and large freezer bags
• Funnel

 

Directions:

1.  Put individual sheets of aluminum foil down on a large piece of cardboard. 
2. Dump each color of sand into large freezer bags.
3. In a very well-ventilated area, with your nose and mouth covered, spray the Scotch Guard into the freezer bag until the sand is saturated.  Zip the bag shut and shake to disperse.
4. Sprinkle the sand into a thin layer on one sheet of foil and allow to dry overnight. 
5. After it dries, dump the sand into small cups. 
6. Fill a large container with warm water.
7. Hold a funnel over the top of the container, and pour each color of sand through the funnel and into the container. 
8. Continue with each color and try to make designs along the way!

 

The best thing about DIY Aqua Sand is that you can use it over and over again! Simply drain the water out of the container and store the sand. When the aqua sand stops repelling water, refresh it with the Scotch Guard and allow to dry overnight again.

This activity was so much fun!

Camp Mom was a HUGE success! We’re really sad to see it end. My kids had a blast with all of these kids activities and they made some great memories along the way!

On June 23, we attended the concert of the circus studio “Fidgets”, which took place in the Vorovskiy D / K.

June 27

On June 27, children in the camp were looking for a sweet treasure.The children received a note containing the assignment and information about the next test. After going through all the stages, children, children enjoyed a sweet gift.

Our guest was the theater of O. Bardakova. The camp pupils saw an interesting performance.

After the performance, the children went to the river. There they built a camp of the future out of sand.All children were actively involved in the work, using all available means. All creations deserved high marks, but a strict jury awarded 1st place to 4th squad.

28 June

On June 28, school 9 hosted a pioneerball competition.Our boys took the honorable 2nd place.

On the same day, other camp inmates went to Sovremennik to close the camp shift. The guys were preparing their homework – a costume made of candy wrappers.

Also, the guys visited the Museum of Local Lore of our city, where they got acquainted with the history of our region, and also were able to look at old things.

June 29

This is the final day of the camp shift.The children prepared a big concert dedicated to the closing of the camp. The guys took a long time to select amateur performances, prepared costumes, and rehearsed.

SUMMER 2018 (archive) Visiting Lesnaya Skazka

On the Children’s Day, a summer health camp with a day stay at the MBOU secondary school No. 8 in Konakovo with the intriguing name “Forest Fairy Tale” opened its doors hospitably.During the shift, 81 students aged from 6.5 to 14 years old rested in it.

Maybe someone thinks that school camp is deadly boredom and the children in it are not at all interested. This is a false idea. Take a look at the “Forest Fairy Tale” and you will see how the children’s eyes shine from the desire to participate in various games, quizzes, contests, and how many excursions, concerts, city events they have already visited, how many new things they have learned!

Thanks to the coordinated actions of the camp commander and deputy.chief, the organization of children’s recreation is clearly thought out, each child knows what event will be on that day, what he will do. This is always reported to the guys on the line before breakfast.

The camp pays great attention to the improvement of the children. Every day begins with exercises conducted by physical education teachers. There are sports sections “Jolly Ball”, “Faster, Higher, Stronger”. The menu is carefully thought out, in which vitamin dishes are necessarily present. Educators, together with counselors, organize outdoor games, “Merry Starts” between squads, drafts competitions, pioneerball.The school nurse in a form accessible to children systematically conducts thematic conversations. So, for example, the guys learned how to warn themselves against infectious diseases and preserve their health, what poisonous mushrooms and plants grow on the territory of our district.

A distinctive feature of the school camp at MBOU Secondary School No. 8 is its ecological focus. The biology teacher has developed a number of interesting educational activities for the ecological education of children, which allow you to comprehend the mysterious world of nature, learn to love it, protect it, and use gifts wisely.Several such sessions have already been conducted. The first – “Me and My Planet” was played as a game – traveling on a spaceship, where the guys saw our Earth, its environmental problems through the eyes of aliens, and after looking at pictures about human life, land pollution, they analyzed how people relate to the environment, animals , the planet as a whole. The second activity “Environmental laboratory” was held on the school site, where students studied plants, shrubs, trees growing in this area.The guys studied the properties of tree bark with great interest and from their own experience they were convinced that by the color, tactile sensation, smell of the bark, it is possible to determine which tree it belongs to. The students were genuinely surprised to learn about the medicinal properties of the bark of some trees, such as oak and birch. The third lesson was devoted to the problem of garbage. Each family throws out up to one ton of it per year, so even in the first lesson on ecology, children were given the task to study their home trash can, determine what the garbage consists of, think over ways to recycle unnecessary items, old things.The guys, together with the counselors and educators, were happy to make crafts from seemingly useless material. The guys’ fantasy was off the charts! There are also literary pages in the “Forest Fairy Tale”. For the birthday of A.S. Pushkin, the guys prepared thoroughly, because in the camp a competition was announced for the best reader of the poem of the great Russian poet. What kind of works were not performed on the day of the competition! The guys, using their artistic abilities, expressively recited their favorite Pushkin’s poems by heart. The best readers who took 1st place, according to the jury, were Anna (grade 4) and Anastasia (grade 1). 2nd place went to Anastasia (2nd class.), and the third is in Paul (3kl.). While the “camp” life for some children has already ended, the children in the “Sunny Beach” camp in the Bezenchuksky district continue to relax and have fun in the fresh air.120 children, who were in a difficult life situation, drove there only on August 1 and became the “discoverers” of the children’s institution. The fact is that two years ago, “Sunny Beach” was closed due to non-compliance with fire requirements, the lack of automatic fire alarm. Before that, the camp was a favorite resting place for children of the province. From 2002 to 2008 alone, 2,350 children rested there.

But there was no money to eliminate violations in the budget. In the same year, the regional authorities “reminded” the new district administration that the empty camp needs to be “revived”, fix all the problems and bring it into good condition.According to the Minister of Health and Social Development of the Samara Region Gennady GRIDASOV, the district administration managed to mobilize all forces and attract local entrepreneurs to help. Those, by the way, did not refuse. – Our sponsors understand that holidays for children are sacred. Therefore, there was no need to beg them. The washing machine broke down yesterday; today one of them bought a new one for us. In general, thanks to the joint work of the regional authorities and entrepreneurs, we equipped the camp in accordance with all fire safety rules, repaired some of the houses, the dining room, completely replaced the electrical wiring and partially replaced the water supply.There are plans to buy new furniture for the houses, ”said Anatoly TITKOV, director of the Sunny Beach camp.
