Hello u13 Red-
Wow, has the season flown by or what? We just finished our sixth game and have two games remaining. I hope everyone is having fun and learning something.
Recapping our last 4 games there are few words that come to mind: closeness, level headedness, and desire. Closeness being the fact that in the last 4 games all have been decided by 1 or 2 goals. Level headedness as in each game you stayed within yourselves and did not panic. Desire, just a flat out desire to play your hearts out which translated into 3 wins and 1 really tough loss. Now you know why at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the coaches ask "Who owns the 4th quarter?", we do.
Our newer players are really picking the game up and I hope you feel that. Seeing some very good middie work from Bobby Guilford, Bobby Shields, Ben Supple, Drew Nugent, Patrick McMahon, Mike Howard and TJ Smith. Good attack work by Ryan Feight, Mikey Masterpolo, Jake Wilmarth, and Jack Davey. Defense has been excellent as well, Heritage, Crone, Duke, and Howard have done yeoman's work.
So let's finish strong over the next two weeks, get to practice and be ready to go at game time. As we coaches have been saying all year, lacrosse is a game of speed. You need to play hard, play fast, play agressive, and play at full speed. Most importantly you need to play with passion.
We realize that you are youth players some who are new to the game and that we coaches are pushing you to play at a speed that you may be used to, but we need you to push yourselves to run hard, play agressive, and work hard when you are on the field as well as off. We only have 3 hours/week for practice and an hour for the game on Sunday. There are many things you can be doing away from the practice and the game. Find a wall and throw, throw, and throw. When you are tired, throw some more. Right, left, right, left, etc. Find a friend and play some catch. Keep your stick in your hand and cradle, cradle, cradle.
There is nothing more rewarding as an athlete to work your butt off and see results and success of your hard work. So continue to hit the wall, hit practice, and hit the books.
Catch, Cradle, Crunch
