How to make a device for ironing

Today I will tell you how to make a very necessary device that you will not find in a store. In our city, I could not find and buy such a “leg”. This is a pillow for ironing sleeves, it resembles a long loaf in shape. It is densely stuffed with sawdust, keeps the shape and fabric of the sleeve into which the pad is threaded, breaks up in different directions, so the iron does not touch it and therefore the edges of the seam are not imprinted on the front side. It will be useful not only for seamstresses, but also for housewives who do not want arrows to appear on the ironed sleeves.

Woolen fabric is required for the manufacture, which the seamstresses have in patches in a fairly large amount. If you don’t sew, look at old things, I’m sure you will find a lot of interesting things. There is a rule: if you have not worn a thing for a year, you will never wear it again. It really works, I checked, this thing will come in handy for you. Still need cotton cloth and sawdust. Sawdust can be purchased at stores that sell pet supplies.

Let’s start:

1. It is necessary to cut out two ovals, the first from woolen fabric, the second from cotton fabric (it is better to take teak). Approximate dimensions of the oval: length 50 cm, at the top 17 cm, at the bottom 13 cm. my first “leg” was larger in size and now I can only use it for sewing coats.

2. Now fold the pieces right sides together and sew on the sewing machine. Starting from the upper wide edge along the entire oval, ending at the upper oval on the other side. Iron on . Turn out. Iron again.

3. Next, this structure must be tightly packed with sawdust. This “loaf” should hold its shape well. Therefore, tamp the “loaf” rather tightly.

It turned out pretty funny! It looks like a shark!

4. The last step is to take a needle and thread and carefully sew up the remaining hole.

Hello dear friends! Today I want to introduce you to my assistants. As far as possible, you should try to make life easier for yourself, which I do in my work. This can be useful not only for those who are professionally engaged in tailoring, but also for those who sew for themselves, and just in household chores. The most important thing is that absolutely anyone can create these useful DIY sewing accessories . Such peculiar gadgets for needlewomen.

One of my handy tools is ironing pads. They are very helpful for steaming and smoothing the relief details of the product and not only. They have different sizes and shapes. The photo shows three pads that I use. They are made of dense cotton fabric, which is not necessarily shedding. Inside, I stuff them with scraps of fabric (also not shedding), cutting them into small pieces beforehand. Foam rubber and synthetic winterizer are not suitable, as they are deformed during ironing and the pad will quickly lose its shape.

The first one is the largest, it can be useful for absolutely everyone, for ironing the side seams of the product and the tackle tucks on it. Its size is 30 by 23 cm in finished form. By the way, with its help it is very convenient to iron trousers.

The second pad helps smooth cuffs and hem on narrow sleeves. It is necessary to turn the sleeve inside out, put a small pillow inside the cuff and iron it, turning it over to different sides. So you can avoid creases at the edges of the sleeve. Its dimensions are 10 by 20 cm in finished form. With this pad, you can iron the entire sleeve, if it is narrow enough, gradually moving it inside the sleeve.

And the third cushion is round. Its diameter is 18 cm when finished. It can be useful for you when ironing cups of the bodice. Cups, as a rule, have a rounded shape and it is quite difficult to iron them well on a flat surface. With the help of round pads, you will perfectly cope with this))). For too tight-fitting models, such as corsets, they are simply irreplaceable.

If you don’t have such helpers on the farm yet, I highly recommend getting one. Or rather, make them yourself, since I have not seen them on sale. This will make your life much easier and the look of your clothes after ironing will only improve. When cutting the pads, you can focus on the sizes that I gave above or your own, which you see fit. Don’t forget to add 1 cm on all edges for seams or an amount equal to the width of the presser foot on your sewing machine. And when you sew up the blank, do not forget to leave a small hole in order to turn it on the front side. Although if you don’t have a machine, then such pillows can be sewn by hand. After you have turned the workpiece inside out, stuff it completely, very tightly with scraps of fabric and sew up the hole on your hands. The pillows are ready and I am sure that you will definitely need them soon.

Now we will talk about another assistant of mine, which I think may be useful to those who are engaged in tailoring. All women have different figures, and if your clients have a size of 50 and above, certain problems may arise when taking measurements. As a rule, full ladies on the sides (and not only) have folds that do not allow you to accurately measure the figure. It is for these purposes that I came up with a corset belt. It turned out to be quite cheerful and colorful))). With it, I can fix the figure and align the side parts. To correctly take measurements and determine the balance, a ribbon or lace is tied around the waistline. With such a corset, this is much easier to do than without it. The corset is put on the naked body of the client.

The front and back are made of cotton fabric, which I additionally glued with interlining. These are the green parts. I made the side parts (pink) from supplex – this is a rather dense, but elastic fabric that allows you to use a corset for waist sizes from 96 cm to 104 cm. Such corsets can be of different sizes, it all depends on the size of your clients. Corset height 29 cm, length 96 cm. I sewed a tractor snake in the center. And to top it off, she decorated the seams of the corset with an elastic band.
