The World Lacrosse Box Championships are headed to Utica, New York! From September 13-22 next year, athletes and fans from all over the world will gather at the Adirondack Bank Center and the new, state-of-the-art Utica University Nexus Center to witness an intense and electrifying display of skill, sportsmanship and athleticism. Up to 30 men’s and 10 women’s teams are expected to compete in the 10-day world championship event, which will feature the top box lacrosse players in the world competing for their countries.

VENUE
The Utica University Nexus Center – which opened in November 2022 – will serve as the main tournament hub, featuring three playing surfaces within the state-of-the-art, 169,440-square-foot facility.
Its world-class facilities and hospitality amenities will cater to athletes, spectators and sponsors. The center is located in the heart of downtown Utica, making it easily accessible to transport and accommodation options. The venue is uniquely hosting the International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship just five months prior to the box championships.

Box lacrosse’s history dates back to the early 19th century. It was originally played in hockey arenas during the off-season, and quickly gained popularity. Today, box lacrosse is a dynamic and thrilling game with a growing global following.
Format + Rules
Box lacrosse is played indoors on a smaller field than the field discipline, with teams of six players and 15-minute quarters. The smaller space and fast pace make it an intense and strategic game that relies heavily on ball control and teamwork.

Utica, New York Will Host the 2024 World Box Lacrosse Championships
Huge news from the FIL last week as they announced that the World Box Lacrosse Championships are heading to Upstate New York in 2024.
Even bigger news is that for the first time, both the men’s and women’s championships will run concurrently, and 2024 will be the first time that a Women’s Box Lacrosse World Champion will be crowned.

According to the latest data, now the top three cities with the most polluted air in the world are American Detroit, Washington and Chicago. The situation is complicated by the heat and approaching national holidays. However, authorities advise residents to limit their stay on the street as much as possible, according to CBS News.
The United States is struggling with some of the worst air quality on earth.
According to the Air Quality Index, Detroit currently has the most polluted air in the world. Washington, you see just the Capitol, and Chicago came in second and third respectively.
All of this is the result of the ongoing wildfires in Canada. More than 100 million people in the Midwest and along the East Coast have received medical advice because of the smoke.

Scott, tell us what is the air quality around you and how do people perceive it?
SCOTT MCFARLAND Correspondent : The air has the texture and smell of a brazier. Let’s start with this. This is the worst air quality in America, if not the worst in the world. Right here in the nation’s capital, in the middle of a summer day, these streets must be filled with people. In reality, it’s not like that. Local authorities have imposed restrictions. And there are also informal restrictions that people accept themselves.
But let’s start with the orders of the authorities. The District of Columbia, Maryland and neighboring states have issued an alert asking them to limit outdoor activities. Parks and entertainment areas are closed. What else do you do in the summer? Camp, football, baseball, lacrosse.
Schools that are still teaching have moved everything indoors. There are recommendations to limit being outdoors, which is quite difficult in the swimming pool season, especially when it’s so hot.
The federal government is in what we characterize as vacation mode. The holiday weekend is coming up, and then the holiday week when Congress here in Washington is closed. Tourist travel is limited to areas where visitors would normally be: the Capitol, the White House, federal buildings.
